Papa's Fish & Chips in East Riding of Yorkshire

Patties are a true northern delicacy! 😄 Excellent fresh and we've discovered they can travel south and be frozen.... Gluten free menu is a very welcome feature.

Amazing restaurant nestled away just off the main road with ample parking and some of the best fish and chips, ambience and customer service talents in the North east! Absolutely whisked away with the thier service with a genuine smile and the food we got was fresh, tasty and the portions were go. Smackingly massive. We had certain dietary requirements and upon speaking to our server, they were very understanding of this and tailored the food we ordered as per our request. Would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone in th locality and a huge thumbs up for the team in keeping up the magic in this gem of a restaurant! A++

Lovely place for a lunch,fresh,delicious, medium price.Clean and simple.Nice atmosphere and good service. Only minus for Gunness beer, not tasty at all,been to Ireland and tried in Sligo,where was the best Gunness beer.

We often meet as a family here and it never disappoints. Food is amazing and is 100% the best fish and chips you can get at very reasonable prices. Staff are always so attentive and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. Recommended this to anyone in a heartbeat. We will be back!

Dinner was amazing and the waitress's/waiters were very good at bringing our food quickly.

Thurs 27th March 2025. My friend and I arrived at a less than half full restaurant and were left waiting for more than 10 mins for someone to come over to us and take us to a table. We were eventually rushed over to the raised area and we were seated at a table facing the main road by our server who never looked at us or even smiled. Our order was taken by a different server who again neither acknowledged us nor smiled, so, so far not impressed with the service. We ordered the medium haddock and chips with a slice of bread and one of us had mushy peas. When the food arrived the fish was on the small side and there were a bout 5-6 decent size chips with the rest being small and very scrappy. Again our server was less than enthusiastic and again no smile serving our food, although he did ask if we needed anything else, we asked for tomato sauce which failed to arrive. I like to have a good shake of salt & vinegar on my fish and chips but I could not taste the vinegar and would not like to say it was watered down? The bill came to just over £30 which I rounded off to £35, as bad as the service was I always like to leave a tip. But again when we went over to the small bar area no one was in a rush to come over to take our money so we just left it on the bar and left. We won't be going back to Papas and I've had better fish and chips at a motorway service station, instead I'll visit my local fish and chip shop for better service and quality and pay half the price.

Another fantastic meal with amazing staff

Annie is a Super Star! She is perfect for the job, very kind, attentive service and made our dining experience a pleasure. Haddock and Skate was excellent. Mushy peas too. Only suggestion would be to brown chips a little more ;-) but great dining experience and thoroughly recommend.

We were welcomed with a friendly attitude. Our waitress was Annie, who was very accommodating. I like the newspaper menu, really interesting to read. I had haddock and chips. 😋I Our second visit since moving up north! We'll be back.

Went for tea last night 6pm there were ten of us , the best thing they served up was the chicken , which says it all when it is supposed to be an award winning fish and chip business . It is the worst fish and chips I have been served up in years , my cod was overcooked and dried up to such an extent I ended up leaving half of it , I actually did explain this to the waitress who had served the food, but I never got a reply back . I wouldn't recommend this establishment at all !!!

He gluten free fish and chips was nice if not just a bit greasy which you don't always get that.. I just wish they would do other things like patties gluten free as well 😔..

Papa's fish and chips in Willerby is looking very tired, the ladies toilets are falling apart, only 2 wash basins out of 4 with working taps, I'm told that the men's toilets are exactly the same.... needs updating.

Been here today on the pier at Cleethorpes. Had them inside today and will never do again. Got my order wrong, the others were OK but the chips were awful. Green and black bits all over them. Doesn't take much to eye them after they have been in the peeler. Had the famous fried halloumi,don't bother all I could taste was the very greasy batter. Very disappointed after paying extra for sitting in. The only thing that was good was the more mature lady member of staff who heated our baby food up,Thank-you.

We regularly eat here at Willerby and bring my 94 year old mother. Everytime we enjoy it. Today Annie served us and the service was exceptional as usual.

Ordered to go but lovely to see there's plenty of seating outside Had the fish and chip bundle with x2 haddock, x2 chips, and some assorted battered sausages, potato cakes, fishcakes and nuggets. Really good value and batter was nicely done - everything was very tasty. Curry sauce is the best I've had - definitely recommend!

Great food, great service and good value for money

Had take away, 1 small haddock which was minute and 2 classics which was small. The fish was wafer thin and batter thick. Very disappointed with food. We come every week but for £22+ they’re not worth it

Excellent service and good food. Very quiet Monday night. Nice and warm too in our little corner.

Ordered the papas extra large special fish which is 2 fish stick together with batter ( soggy uncooked batter in the middle where the fish have been stuck together) tasted slightly like bleach, oozing with oil, the mushy peas were ok, curry sauce was awful Chinese style cheap and nasty couldn’t stomach it. Not very busy which made sense after the awful food. Won’t be returning.

It has gone down since it won the best fish and chips awards chips are to dry and hard to eat

Had many meals here and quality is always excellent, as is the service. On our most recent visit we had Annie looking after us and as usual she made sure we had everything we needed to have a lovely meal.

Hi All We eat regularly at the Papa’s, Willerby but unfortunately the service and customer relations today has been terrible. We ordered 2 pensioners specials as we always do and upgraded to medium. Our food arrived and so did the table next to us at the same time we received one medium and one small. No one came and asked if our food was ok, the gentleman behind us said oh I've got a large fish today I can't eat it all. When the waitress came to collect our plate I said I've been given the wrong meal we upgraded to a medium (we had one large oval plate and one small oval plate) she said she would mention it to the manager I said that's fine as long as we're only paying for one upgrade. When we went to pay the manger saw us coming and disappeared leaving a young girl to take our money. We explained that the waitress said she would make sure the bill was change to the correct price. The young lady went to get the manger and said oh the manger plated it himself so it was a medium. We asked to see the manger but the young lady said he was busy. We have eaten at Papa’s a couple of times a month for as long as I can remember, the service we received today was terrible and the fact the manager didn't want to speak to us speaks volumes. Sadly it will be the last time we visit papas

Visited yesterday, thoroughly enjoyed it. Food was amazing (hot and freshly cooked). Served by a lovely lady called Annie, she really couldn’t do enough for us. Highly recommended.

We arrived here for dinner and were surprised at how large the portion sizes are. My partner order the plaice and I ordered the scampi, my son had cod and chips. We had sides of peas (had to wait a while for these) and honey battered halloumi which I can’t recommend enough if you are a halloumi lover, it was delicious! The customer service was great. Good value for money.

After going to Papas in Cleethorpes and Blackpool we had to try the one in Hull. We have always had a fantastic meal at Papas and we were not disappointed in Hull. The service was great and the interiors were well designed with a nautical theme which added a nice touch to the dining experience.

Lovely food but place needs a clean. Walls in grease and lights covered in dust. Also wasn't asked about allergies when served.

Just want to say a big Thank you to all the staff at Pappas Willerby who made our afternoon so special . My great grandaughter rang the bell to signify the end if her treatment for Lukemia after 2. 3years. The staff made us so welcome and served all 30 of us quickly and efficiently the food was fantastic. Xx Happy New Year to you all. Z

Excellent food although sore a bit run down

Had takeaway, probably the worst fish and chips I've ever had. Cardboard chips, hardly any taste, just bland. To be honest, a third of what we bought went in the bin. Be our last visit.

I wouldn’t normally be so harsh but I’m very disappointed in the service I received. I ordered gluten free fish and chips. My order came to £19.35. When I travelled to the takeaway, I was told that they were not doing gluten free and had tried to contact me, but apparently couldn’t get in touch. They said I would need to provide them with card details for a refund. I did. But I didn’t receive any refund for this. A week later, I rang and was told they couldn’t process the refund because the manager wasn’t in. I rang again the next day and someone wrote down my card details, but I still didn’t get a refund. I rang again, and once more, my card details were taken but no refund came through. I then used the contact form on the website to get in touch, but got absolutely nothing from that. Now, three months after my original order, I still have no refund, no apology and no contact. I must say that I have previously enjoyed the food and had never had an issue. But this problem has really ruined Papas for me and it’s such a shame. In order to try and get my money back, I’ve had no choice but to contact my bank and class it as “fraud.” It’s a shame they didn’t just make an instant refund like a normal professional company would. I can’t order again for fear of them stealing my money once more. Sad to say, unless they message and resolve this, they’ve lost a customer. I’m happy to change my rating once they get in touch and give me my money back, but I doubt that will be the case!

Top drawer, needed a pit stop midday, just right for the return route after a Hull visit, and set us up for doing the weekly shop on the way back home. Food was delivered quickly and served piping hot - really hit the spot too, good access to amenities as well and nice interior for dining.

Called in here on the way past after a long day. The welcome was warm, the Christmas trees and tasteful festive music were delightful. Our waitress Annie was lovely. And the food was fabulous. Firmly recommend the apple crumble, it's comes with a flood of custard! Brilliant

THE place to go if you need to eat Gluten Free. Papa's have dedicated GF fryers so no matter what day, if you fancy 'chippy' you're guaranteed to get it here. Whether eating in or taking away, I can't say I've ever had a bad meal here. Staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Fish and chips are usually good but wasn't the best, hardly any fish in medium and small, mostly batter. The restaurant was lovely and warm so much better to the one we used to have in bilton.

Although the food has always been nice, I have been to the takeout in Willerby a couple of times and there has always been one employee who seems to be really rude to the rest of the staff. She shouted numerous times to her other colleagues in-front of customers and I could see it was making them feel uncomfortable. She looked like she was a manager or someone in charge of the others but it was awful to see her treat people the way she was, really disappointing.

Great vegetarian options. Haloumi was fantastic. Revisited again a year later, served by Annie. Still great place, great service. Thank you!

Update, I'm about to go back for my 5th visit and everytime the food is beautifully cooked and so tasted. The staff are so friendly. This place is a gem. First visit and will be back. Chips were beautifully cooked, not greasy. Batter was crunchy and cooked perfectly. Great system in these trying times but the staff worked really hard getting orders out quickly. Looking forward to my next visit to Hull so I can pop in

This place is the best for fish and chips in the area! The value for money is unreal to! We have been so many times and never had a bad meal. There's a decent selection and variety on the menu to if you fancy venturing way from the traditional, though quite honestly I dont know why you would! They have great gluten-free and vegetarian options to which absolutely do not sacrifice on the quality. I wouldn't look anywhere else for fish and chips in this area!

We went half an hour before closing on Saturday night. The girl who served us was friendly and polite. Very pleasant. This was our first time having papas fish and chips. We had the combo which is meant to be small chips, small fish and small sausage. They were all huge. Tasted amazing. Light crispy batter and best tasting chips. The mushy peas… a dream. Also had cheesy chips. Tasted like cheese not the plastic other take always serve. Delicious! Absolutely top marks for everything. Clean and tidy restaurant too. We live 3 hrs away so a shame we won’t be back soon otherwise I’d be here every Friday!

Atmosphere great, very well looked after. Articulate waiting staff. Attended for a birthday get together. Birthday girl was spoilt with a happy birthday sing along from the staff team, with a complimentary pudding. The food was beautiful, fish very fresh, great sized portions, and a good price. We've just been saying how it is the best fish we've had in a long time. Thank you for having us. We will be back.

When we got here my wife was last to order, it was found they couldn’t do Gluten Free. Unfortunately we were in a group of 8 people five who had already ordered … As the table was previously booked, They could have put a sign at the door informing everyone, to stop embarrassment…………..Not good

We had a lovely meal and the staff were really friendly and welcoming. I've been to several Papa's restaurants before and think this one is the best.
