I’ll start by saying the food was half decent the fish was nice and fresh but the chips was mediocre at best, definitely not worth the price. The service was okay in terms of time but the waitress was extremely rude and very judgemental. Very unwilling to help with queries and not great when asking about allergies. Wouldn’t come back again

Been living in Oz for about 8 years now - returned to my home town of Weston to sort out a bit of business. One of the few things I miss about England is proper Cod. Now, the best fish and chips were always from a shop in the nearby village of Worle - but they've now closed down and it's become a Chinese or something. I googled best fish and chips in Weston and Papas kept showing up. I went and had a sit-in meal with them today. The chips were nice proper thick cut and were cooked to perfection. The issue I had was with the Cod. I reckon if you stripped the very bland batter away, the fish wouldn't have been much bigger than a packet of cigarettes. It wasn't tasty either - the very nice (home made?) tartare sauce completely overpowered any taste the fish might have had. I was looking forward to a big, meaty piece of fish with firm flakes and a nice flavour, but was sadly disappointed. What made it worse was that as I'd been walking to Papas along the seafront, I'd seen people eating lovely pieces of Cod from the various cafes and vendors which looked much better than what i'd been served. I had a plate of Cod and chips, plus a glass of wine and it cost me £24.35 - I left feeling totally ripped off.

Just had food delivered via Uber Eats. Haddock was overcooked and very greasy, chicken nuggets undercooked with soggy coating and chips were undercooked and pale. We’ve ordered from Papas for years, but the last few orders have been very disappointing.

Was in a wet and miserable Weston Supermare but the craving for fish and chips never ceases. This place was rated 4.6 stars and having read some reviews (and easy parking outside) thought would give it a shot. £16.95 for cod and chips, not cheap but the quality of food was exquisite. Potatoes were fluffy inside and the right amount of golden and the cod was perfectly light and crisp with large flakes of pearly white flakes of cod. The curry sauce was not a standard jobby, had the nice surprise of currants inside which had a fruity sweetness which blended well with the tart Tartare sauce and always on the plate Heinz Ketchup. Highly recommended chip shop. One of the best I have had by the sea!

It was simply outstanding. The fish was perfectly cooked – crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. The chips were golden and chunky, just as they should be. But the true star of the meal was the curry sauce. I've had my fair share of curry sauces over the years, but Papas' is by far the best I've ever tasted. It was rich, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the fish and chips.

Ordered fish and chips at six thirty for seven o’clock didn’t arrive until eight ten. By the condition of the meal it has been kept warm not cooked to order as they had trouble finding a driver. Chips almost cold and soggy and batter greasy and soggy. Expensive and disappointing.

Went in tonight 13/08/24 just for a jumbo battered sausage and portion of chips. Got it home 5 minutes drive sausage had obviously been sat there for some time and the chips where well below par. Very disappointed.

Very good, tasty food freshly cooked. Quite expensive, but then again, everything is now. Have dropped offering a free bread roll with your food, which was a little disappointing when the meal was so expensive. Also, drink prices were extortionate. It would be OK if you were given a decent size glass, but they're like tiny squash glasses you got at school years ago. 2 mouthfuls of cranberry juice that came out of a 50p large carton you could by in asda should not be £2.50.

Miserable experience. Food mediocre and dramatically overpriced for what it was - certainly not "the best in town". White, flaccid chips, dry tasteless fish and mushy peas at £3.10! Seriously?! Staff were bored looking and didn't enhance an otherwise disappointing experience. Left feeling underwhelmed and I won't be going back!

Very disappointed, although quality was good , quantity was very bad I payed for a large chips and what I got wasn’t even a small size chips (did take pics but can’t upload). I have had from here many times so I know this wasn’t the normal ‘large’ chips. So now only 1 person could have some as wasn’t enough for everyone and had to get them something else. Order also missing Diet Coke

Such a shame, the chips were soggy portions of fish reduced. Poor quality full stop. It’s such a shame as Papas has been great over the years, but obvioulsy quality and custom doesn’t matter anymore. Very expensive for what was sent.

Think you know the best chippy? Think again Papas has it all sewn up. Best chippy I've ever visited .... by a country mile ... or should that be in a league of its own. Dine in for the greatest experience.

Papas is one of the best chip shops in Somerset & makes a trip to Weston Super Mare complete. The chips are crisp & the batter used is tasty. The staff are friendly & welcoming. Inside seating is available, but space feels tight for wheelchair use.

Very disappointed with the food, fish was over cooked and chips weren't too clever either. It's been a while since I have been to Papas and have always loved the quality and cooking of the food......disappointed!!!

Best chippy in town. Only slight downside is you have to wait a bit as they are so busy and cooked fresh

Foods decent, the restaurant is pretty cool with loads of old chippy memorabilia and feels like your in a proper old school family run business. The service is diabolical - I've never felt more unwelcome. The geeza on the front counter had a face on like a slapped back side and was super blunt in conversation, and the woman running the restaurant side was mega rude and made me and my parter feel so uncomfortable we decided to take away our food instead of eating in. My missus said 'I really hope the food is good because the service is terrible' - did the food outweigh the service? Probably not. But it was a decent enough chip. Won't be spending my hard earned cash here again unfortunately.

The curry sauce portion is so small I ordered 2. Both combined sauces don't even make a quarter of a pint. Ridiculous price at £6.40! The chips are lovely however almost half the bag is the little off cuts which when cooked have no potato left in them. As for the fish, again lovely, however a regular cod and extra large portion is only around 30 grams. I know Papa's have a good reputation, however I only order when it has 40% off on Just eat as paying the regular price of £2.70 short of £40.00 (for fish and chips!) is a rip off.

Fairly expensive in comparison with other chippies in Weston. One in Worle is better and cheaper. Suppose it’s the location that creates the price

What a lovely place is Weston supermare. These was the best fish n chips we had since we visited Whitby. 😋 you gotta try them ..

Food was OK, over priced but fair enough with the location. However, the waitress serving us was blunt, rude and to be honest I couldn’t wait to eat and go. Felt very uncomfortable and with her attitude she should be working in the kitchen out the way

From the moment we walked in the staff were so rude and made us feel so uncomfortable. (Especially older lady with long hair) Definitely don’t recommend. Food was average but absolutely terrible customer service.

Best fish and chips in a long time. Has a sit in restaurant in addition to takeout and delivery. My wife enjoyed the charcoal grilled fresh sea bass and I had the battered plaice. Batter was crispy, not oily and fish was moist and flaky. The plaice fillet was quite thick unlike the usual thin fillets. Wall shows an interesting collection of celebrity guests. Well worth a visit. And for you cat owners, check out their “moggy bag”.

Fish was average! Curry sauce was very watery ! And the chips were disgusting , they was rock hard ! An all round bad meal .

Always the best way to get the quintessential British traditional fish and chips ... you pay for what you get, vice versa too.

Fish was beautifully cooked. Chicken was very dry, as if it had been left under heat for too long. Chips were also excellent. Delivery was bang on.

Quick delivery good quality and good portion size

We rarely have bad service here, though the wait times can be long. We often order on Uber or Just Eat and the food is usually pretty quick. It's got a little bit of something for everyone.

Scrumdiddlyumptious!! Thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here at Papa's. We chose the haddock and chips. Coffee tasted great and was served hot, always a win for me. Delicious food, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere, and clean environment. An easy five stars from me. I am looking forward to visiting again soon.

I ordered 3 separate meals plus a portion of chips and yet the chips where added in with the fish instead of as a separate portion - disappointed!

Went for a takeaway on an early saturday eve so there was about 10mins to wait for food, but totally worth it. Very fairly priced for the quality, and fish was wonderfully cooked. Definitely recommend! Large chips is absolutely plenty for two hungry adults and a toddler!

I consistently come back here out of all the joints you could go to for fish n chips, this is the only one! It’s lush food, and usually a quick service. If not it’s only because they’re busy as they’re so good!

Had sit in meals costing 27 pounds for two meals ! Battered sausage and chips and pie and chips both came with side salad weird rather than peas or beans . portion was so small of chips , pie hard and service very basic . Boring and bland Tried to complain but was told no email and no way to complain and the communication when verbally complaining was poor not understanding and unhelpful ! The female did not understand my complaint and did not try to resolve very frustrating

Papa's feels like it has gone down hill, especially if you eat in. We had 2 "Pensioners" specials and I wondered if they were palming us off with the worst fish. It didn't taste like cod and it was very mashy. Tea was cold and we had to pay over £3 for mushy peas. I might give the takeaway another go but will be giving the restaurant a wide berth. Far too expensive for what it is and I think they're resting on an old reputation.

Fish was cooked to perfection with the batter very thin and crispy chips thick and chunky prices was reasonable One meal was the seniors citizens special which included roll butter and drink good value and a decent size the other meal was the large place which was large cooked to order Did not wait long for service staff very polite and not rushing you can be busy at lunch time

Drove down to go for a walk and ended up getting chips here because of reviews. Chips were like crunchy clouds, fish/meat were such good quality! Freshly prepared, just so tasty, even down to the pickles…I’m not sure if they pickle their pickles in house but it’s the best I’ve ever tasted…staff were kind/smiley and there is loads of photography history which is nice, they also offer eat in option if you wanted too. I’d recommend this place and we will defo do the drive to return. Returned……still the best chip shop I’ve been too, lovely staff….even let me try a battered mushroom….which I’ll be getting next time…thanks guys :)

Best fish and chips I've had in ages. Busy, even on a rainy Sunday lunchtime, which is always a good sign. Very quick service. Fish was delightful, chips perfectly cooked. Special shout out to the curry sauce, that was unusually excellent.

Service today was shambolic,asked to pay before food was presented,then to add insult to injury was asked to leave as the table was needed for a reservation,the restaurant was almost empty,food was fine but the service deplorable,I always leave a 2-3£ tip,but not anymore.

This is the best chippy in Weston-super-Mare by far. Eating in or takeaway then choice and quality is excellent.

Really disappointed after seeing all of the good reviews here. I will start by saying the fish was great, however the chips simply were not cooked fully, the inside still felt hard. The portion sizes are not as generous as other reviews are making out. We also had a member of staff watching us the entire time we ate, it really put us off any conversation during our meal and we felt quite uncomfortable. Paid almost £40 for our meal, very unsatisfied.

Food was cold unfortunately and we had to microwave it which reduced the quality. Delivery driver was friendly
