Papa Johns in Cheshire West and Chester

The cigarette smoke Iun this store was too much for me. Papa John’s staff were smoking right outside the Chester store so the smoke was blowing into the store. I mentioned it to the person serving me but they said it was just blowing in, as if that was acceptable. The staff were also wearing Papa John’s T shirts. It was very unpleasant going into the store. This was 5:20pm 5/9/2023. Had I not placed the order online and already paid, I would not have stayed. Had I been ordering in store I would have left, I would have been unable to stay in the store long enough to wait due to the cigarette smoke. Not only was this a poor advertisement for Papa John’s but I would not want to eat pizza made by someone with cigarette smoke and ash on their clothing. I hope they at least wear aprons that they take off before they smoke. We were not given an estimated time to pick-up, we had to wait until it said ready. The pizza had not been kept warm in the time it took us to get there so the pizza was only luke warm.It would be helpful to be given an estimated time when the order is placed so that customers may leave earlier and aim to arrive when the pizza is ready. Traffic was quite bad in Chester at 5pm and it took us some time to get there. The pizza was delicious, if a little cold, so it’s shame I will be unable to visit the Chester store again because of cigarette smoke. I am asthmatic and cigarette smoke is one of my triggers.

I’ve given papa Johns so many attempts to get things right but every time they just can’t. The last 3, yes 3 times I’ve ordered I’ve not got my order. When the tracking works it says your pizza is on its way (when it isn’t) or worse it says preparing status for 2 hours - that means Mike and Co are so busy it’s still a ticket. They should stop taking orders , each time when I call to follow it up it’s the same story - they are too busy. You shouldn’t have to wait 4 hours from ordering to get a pizza . It’s such a shame as pizza used to be good from here but it’s service is just shocking

Worst customer service I have had from a pizza Branch! Let me start by saying i do like papa Johns but this branch was poor to say the least. Ordered 2 pizzas at 8pm on Friday 18th June before going out with friends. The pizza was set to “delivered” at approx. 8:30pm but no pizza arrived. We called them and Mike answered the phone and said they were very busy and it was on its way. We were still waiting by 9pm so gave them a call again but they didn’t answer. Used a different phone and got through at 9:10pm and mike said the pizza was ready but they didn’t have enough drivers and it would be out soon. By 9:34 and several more calls we found out the pizza hadn’t been made, drivers weren’t a problem but Mike couldn’t explain why it was so late. We asked for a refund after a heated conversation to which Mike said it would be processed in 3-5 working days. 6 working days later now and no refund has come through for pizzas that were not delivered. Called the branch again to find out no refund has been put through and will be another 3-5 working days while they check with management…. DO NOT USE CHESTER BRANCH!

Ordered a pizza online that said it came with onions, went to customize and all onions were removed however it still came with onions which my partner is intolerant to. Called the restaurant who just said that's how it came through to them and offered no help so spent money on a pizza we couldn't eat. Would not recommend

Excellent couple of delivery pizzas from this Papa John's in Chester on a busy Saturday night. Food was delicious, and delivered hot and fast by a friendly driver. Some decent online deals to be had, would definitely use again.

I worked for domino's for 12 years I know how difficult and hard it can be to work for these companies. When it busy it's hard both mentally and physically especially for the pizza maker ( slapper). Ordered from here a few times on the app and it has always been great. Order has never been wrong delivery has always been reasonable and the food has always been hot. And i have to say I much prefer papa John's to dominos any day. The dough is better the topping and sides are better. Keep up the good work because I will be ordering again. 😍

I went to order pizza and they treated me disrespectfully, especially someone who looked like a manager in the kitchen started shouting at me about just a simple thing about me having a student ID card or not. I went there with an excitement but came back home with such a frustration. Don’t work like that, I get why there are no customers in the store.

do not go there halfway through eating brownie numerous what lokedlike insect wings were found we were basically accused of putting them in there did get full refund and still waiting for results from investigation will never use again

Ordered pizza and it arrived I'd say around 20 minutes after I ordered it which was faster than expected! Also the delivery driver was really nice and friendly. Ordered from other places in Chester before which have taken over an hour so 20 minutes was very good. Also the delivery driver seemed so friendly compared to other places I've got food from in which often I've had rude delivery drivers. Also the value was very good as I got 2 for Tuesday so got 2 large pizzas for £14 which is a really good price for how big they are and an offer for 2 dips for 70p.

Nos dieron Pepsi del tamaño incorrecto también y tuvimos que hacer que el pobre se tomara el tiempo para traernos el correcto. Realmente necesito trabajar en sus habilidades de servicio al cliente aquí, no puedo creer lo grosero que era ese tipo!

I have had many bad experiences at this place, my pizza was not only 45 minutes late, but when i recieved the pizza it taste like rubber. On calling the manager of the store, i got a very frosty reception. Offering me a large pizza for free, ha, the 1st pizza was diabolical why would i proceed to want another one. I dont want a free pizza, neither will i be eating from here ever again.

We’ve historically had variable service here but worth checking when you fancy a pizza. We waited over 1.5 hours for the food and chased over the phone - the staff said they accept orders even when they know it’s outside of the 45 minute estimated time. Apparently the boss tells them to accept all orders as just eat charges them if they don’t accept. Might be useful to review the procedures.

I received excellent customer service. Male assistant carried my order to my car as I was carrying my baby, he double checked my order when we got there and realised something was missing, and ran them back to my car. He was so pleasant and the food was delicious. A happy family. Thank you

I went there Thursday night, I asked for two simple Margherita to take away! When I opened the pizza at home we found the ham in both pizzas, for me and wife was ok but our kids don’t like ham so I had to go to Asda to buy another Pizza Margherita! Disappointed! I won’t rush back!

This was a last minute pizza order on a tuesday and unaware of the two for tuesday deal we paid full price for 1 large pizza - we then received a call from a worker at papa johns and they asked if we would like to have another large pizza free - they didnt have to do this and it shows that they care. Pizza was pretty awesome too!

Never got my food. Was paying with cash so it didn't effect me. The restaurant said it was delivered. So whoever it was delivered to was not me and I hope they enjoyed the pizza.

The food was stone cold when it arrived and the garlic bread had no garlic on it.

Although we made a request whilst booking for no olives to be on the pizza, the pizza arrived with olives on it which was disappointing.

Ordered from here last night online then a phone call 5 mins later from the store - no BBQ wings, no Redhot wings, no chicken poppers and no chicken for the pizza?! Second time it's happened the two times we've ordered from here, won't be going back and fully expect the store to not last given the overall awful reviews people are posting. You're a pizza place, ORDER ENOUGH INGREDIENTS!

Didn't get any food, ordered on just eat on Sunday 27th, waited 1 hour, tried to call for an extra 30 minutes, finally got through to a member of staff for them to tell me my order has been cancelled because they are too busy! And that they couldn't do anything about it! Will never order from there again!!

I live on the next street from this outlet and the order took 1 and a half hours to arrive cold.

The food didn't show up. I waited almost 2 1/2 hours, but my housemates got their food on time. Called the resturant 2 times, and the 2nd time they said thay had just closed han couldn't do my order... That was about 8:30pm

Ordered our first Papa John's tonight. We ordered on line and it arrived approx 30 mins later piping hot. The delivery guy was really polite and friendly. We were onto our second slice when we realised despite ordering a Hawaiian with extra toppings we just had the toppings with no ham or pineapple. I rang the shop and the man I spoke to couldn't have been more apologetic. He said he'd send another pizza out within 20 minutes. He later rang back to say the pizza had left the shop and they'd upgraded it to a stuffed crust as an apology. The new delivery guy couldn't have been more apologetic either. We finally sat down to tuck into our pizza and unfortunately the ham tasted so bad (off) we didn't get anymore than a slice in. I'm too embarrassed to call back a second time so we're having a brew and biscuits instead (healthy Wednesdays in our house!). Well done Papa John's for your great customer service. Sadly (or not) I won't ever be experiencing it again. £20 not very well spent at all!

The delamere street store- 1 hour back. We had a rookie take our order. We ordered fr two pizzas. The first he took correctly, but the second he got down as cheese n tomato, instead of The Greek as we had requested. We weren't given the receipt immediately. When we came back to pick up the delivery, we requested the receipt n walked out. We were opp the Chester library when the little one cudnt control her hunger anymore n we gave her a slice of the pizza and took one each for ourselves. After a couple of bites we realised there were no toppings. I put back my half eaten, husband's half eaten but cudnt take daughter's back. Closed the box n rushed back to the store. They refused to do anything saying that we would hv ordered what we got. I stood my ground n said it wasn't. They got the guy who'd taken down the order n he looked unsure. Then they said u have eaten more than 2 slices. I explained and emphasised that it was only about a third of a slice over 2. Also I wasn't claiming a pizza under the 'papa's guarantee of quality ' but bcz their guy had got my order wrong. I said i only got to know when my daughter ate a part of it and found there was no topping underneath the cheese. At which they ganged up and started pouring sarcasm 'wouldn't u hv realized when u opened the box!'...'oh, she's got quite an appetite!'. At this stage i lost it... i said ur guy cannot get a simple order straight n u hv the gumption to poke fun at my daughter (4 yr old). The said 'oh it's not personal...tk it as a joke'. I did get my pizza finally, but it was after they had humiliated me enough...and for no fault of mine. Now, i hv it sitting before me n I don't even feel like touching it!

Sort your app out, it must be one of the most user unfriendly I've ever used. You can't track your order and have to wait for the confirmation email to come five minutes later to know whether you've actually ordered or not

Absolutely useless. Never got the food called up and told that we couldn't be refunded and they couldn't send us a pizza. Never ordering from them again.

We stopped ordering from here a few months ago as the standard had slipped. I thought we would give it another go at the weekend but alas it was even worse. Greasy and messy pizza, undercooked wedges, even the cookie was awful, it wasn't cooked all the way though and was dripping in grease. We're pizza express all the way... beautiful pizza every time. You can order via deliveroo and the app doesn't make you want to throw your phone at a wall like the Papa John's one!

Had a very awkward phone call where I was told, despite providing an exact postcode and very precise instructions both from a landmark mentioned by the staff member and directions from their shop that they didn't where it was and eventually that they weren't coming. Not a great experience

well we ordered for delivery two of the best pizzas we have had ever. xxl double layed pepperoni and xxl bbq chicken (bbq sauce could be a bit stronger)with free chicken wings two lots of wings/poppers (nuggets) we had plain ,bbq and hot buffalo wings and chicken poppers all well cooked and really tasty. i also ordered cheesy jalapeno bites sadly they never came but more poppers instead that was the only let down but in all we all loved it that much we will defo use again.ps everything was pipping hot and they are just like they are in the picture which never happens anywhere else

Cold and late is the theme. Over a hour late and pizza cold. Several calls to store made no difference. When it arrived we played spot the cheese( ordered extra cheese). Gave up on pizza went for dessert instead which was the wrong one! Cold and burnt! Actually made my son sick! Say no more.

Waited 3 hours. Restaurant no answered phone. Eventually it turned up. Delivery man rude. Said he would call me to sort a refund when he got back to site. Never heard back. This isn't the first time. The first time papa johns took 2 hours and turned up with no pizza, just a garlic bread side! I want my refund!

Pizza dripping in grease, literally dripping. I've not seen something that wet since.. Cumbria 2015. I won't be ordering again. Following a hectic festive period, and having no food left in the house, I just fancied a nice pepperoni pizza and thought the 'double layered pepperoni' would hit the spot. I couldn't have been more wrong. I'd recommend going to Tesco and buying a Chicago Town stuff crust any day of the week.

I enjoy Papa John's not only is the pizza good but the choice in sides for none pizza fans is great, except for one thing... we order a few times a month & the wedges are always undercooked. Since opening I think they've been delivered them fully cooked about 4 times.

I didn't get the sauces I paid for but the pizzas were VERY nice. Lovely delivery driver who was very polite and quick delivery.

Not sure what happened here but the experience was awful. 1.5 hours waiting and eventually we had to re-order. Garlic sauce was off. Pizza was mainly tomato paste. Price was too high at £18! We had to get another order and wait for another order - no apology offered. Choose another pizza delivery place!

Pizza and wedges tasted great, a lot less greasy than dominos or pizza hut, only issue was the hour it took to be delivered, although I did feel sorry for the driver as he literally sprinted back to his car after giving me the pizza, must be a hard way to earn minimum wage.

Papa Johns pay their staff minimum wage despite how cheery and hard working they are. There food is good and always on time. I just do t know why they are on minimum wage. Would have been 5 stars if they paid them more.

Pizza was great, and the cinnapie was amazing! These were delivered about 20 minutes before the esimated delivery time which was great.

I always buy from hear pizza very nice and we also make sure we buy a cookie the down side this time is that they have change the way they make the cookie it is always thin And VERY crispy this time very thick to much cookie doe what a shame

I have been here a few times and each time the pizza has been delicious, last time A young girl named Sophie took and made my order, after my pizza had been made and given to me I realised that I had not given the right name and had been given a different pizza to what I expected at no fault of the young girl, she saw the confused look from myself and quickly asked if everything was okay... I explained the issue and without the need to ask a new fresh pizza was made there and then for me, I was then given the original pizza along with the new correct pizza at no extra charge. I was very impressed with the level of service given to me by Sophie and how nice both pizzas were. I look forward to the next visit

We are Americans and enjoy Papa Johns Pizza in the US. We thought this branch was even better than what we get at home--and the pizza was spicier. The manager comes in early each day to make sure all the ingredients are fresh. We went on a Friday night and the franchise was quite busy; yet, we didn't have to wait longer than normal for our take away. Delicious pizza!

As an American born in Chicago, I have lived and worked in Europe since 1968 - and have lived here in the Chester area from 1980 onwards. I was raised in a suburb called La Grange, Illinois. LG was known for it's high school and football team; but, more importantly, it was famous as the home of 'Johnny's Pizza House'. People would travel from throughout the region to taste what was arguably the best pizza one could get in the whole Chicago area! If the car park was full (...and it often was) we would never go in because there would be at least a 2 hour wait for a table! No reservations were allowed here, and the punters would invariable hold their ground as they had often traveled some distance to get here. This was in the days (1950's) before pizzamania exploded across America and Europe, and so there were only four pizzas offered: cheese or cheese and sausage; medium or large. That was it!!! Franchising was just starting out. 'Johnny's', however, was owned and operated by a local Italian family and I've since learned that the restaurant was sold a few years later (for a small fortune!) The new owners had not, I understand, maintained the original standard, and the business apparently went downhill from there... In all my time and travels in Europe and the UK I have never found a pizza that ever came close to what 'Johnny' served; until now! I was absolutely astounded to discover that 'Papa John's' (on Delamere Street in Chester) successfully ended my quest for getting a good old fashion basic Chicago pizza!

Spent £12, got a couple of cold chicken chunk things, and the "bacon and cheese sticks' was cold dry bits of bread with barely any toppings on.

Ordered 3 times now and food order never properly fulfilled. 1st time delivery had no dips we had ordered 2nd time they didn't have our toppings3rd time we collected and got home to find no dips again - even after asking to make sure they were there and being told they were all there. Called when back home and they suggested walking back to pick them up! Eventually got them delivered but we had to reheat the pizzaI must say the good is good and the garlic pizza slices incred!

We've become a bit addicted to Papa Johns since it has come to Chester.The pizza's are really fresh with lots of options including vegetarian options a bit more adventurous than just cheese and tomato.They do fab offer's which often make it cheaper than eating from what's in the fridge! ....and free local delivery.I'd recommend this to anyone!

first time ordering, failed to find a city apartment so had to wait 1&half hrs- no contact made via just eat?, when rang restaurant they did take details and promise to re-send in 30 mins which they did but then didn't put any of the dips i had paid for in with order, not great first impression for cost of a small pizza. food pizza was good, but wedges cold and wings also not hot.

Bbq Ribs were nice. Pizza - bit cold which was easy to warm up. No free dip with the pizza. Pizza was a little bit soggy from being moved around the box>>>The biggest problem though was that the pizza was all smashed up inside the box. It needed to be transported flat or put a spike in the middle so it doesn't move when it is transported. Hopefully this is constructive and they can improve.
