Pahuna Nepalese And Indian Cuisine in Plymouth

I ordered Karahi Paneer( the curry was based on Karahi Lamb by replacing lamb with Paneer, this is what the cashier/waiter told me) along with Garlic Naan, but curry was nowhere closer to any Karahi curry at all, it had lots of chopped onion (like Paneer Do Pyaza, but not even Paneer Do Pyaza) with huge amount of oil. I am not sure why, but the curry had gritty in taste, so after 2-3 bites I had to throw it away, may the spices had some problem or there was some issue with the utensils. Though the Garlic Naan was ok in taste.

Nice vibe with good food. I had the chicken vindaloo and cheese naan. The vindaloo could have been a little spicier but tasted amazing. Staff were super friendly as well :)

Where credit is due credit will be given, im not someone who gives a bad review unless waranted! From the outset, our order was wrong. This seemed to be the tone of the evening. On arrival my partner and I ordered drinks 1 pint and 1 shandy, how hard is this, drinks came as full 2 pints, this was pointed out where the young man at the bar poured said pint out and made a pint of shandy quoting us the same price after payment, ( this i find hard to believe). Our friends arrived, and we were seated, orders made, and once ready, we received them in error ( 2 meals mixed and rice ). This was pointed out but only after receiving the correct rice, then consulting the staff of the error I was informed that I definitely had the correct meal ( chicken tika massala ) when infact it was butter chicken, this was continually argued by staff including managment who then replaced the meal with the same one that was taken away 15 mins earlier, again insisting it was correct as a chicken tika masala, but the replacement meal was still yellow and not red. On looking at restaurants' own website, I found 2 lovely pictures of the above meals, which proved my point. When challenged staff again, they still refused to accept the error. If they were insistent that I had the correct meal, however, why would they then take said meals off the bill !! Was left hungry as i didn't eat that evening as well as a major disappointment. Recomend remedial training on their own cuisine recognition. Will definitely pass on this venue again.

We went in a group of 6 people. The food was simply outstanding. I had a king prawn dry fry starter which was so tasty followed buy a garlic chicken chilli main which wasn't overly hot but lots and lots of flavour. Now this restaurant would have got 5 stars across the board but I may be getting an old fart but the background music was just way too load causing people to shout to one another over the music making the whole place just too load. But it was busy. But the food and service was outstanding.

The owner is a liar and mobile phone thief! Police had to be called to get the owners phone back. Disgusting attitude and behaviour. Avoid.

On Saturday my family ate at Pahuna. There was a total of 16 in the party and they spent a small fortune. I picked them up and got them home to find my mum had left her phone on the table there. I rang them, and the lady confirmed they'd found the phone and I could go and collect it right away. We got there 15 minutes later, my mum went in and then came out to beckon me in 2 minutes later. The owner was claiming that there was no phone. I called it, and it rang from his pocket. He then said ah well if there is a phone how do I know it's hers? I said well I just rang 'mummy' on my phone... but there's also bank cards in there with her name on, and a picture of my dad as the screensaver. He refused point blank to accept ID, explanations, photos. Just kept saying that he could not confirm that it was her phone and wouldn't give it to her. I ended up having to call the police. The man turned out the lights, locked us in, got into my mums face, and was then screaming at her to leave. He refused to cooperate with the 999 call handler, who sent a van out from Charles Cross and then insisted he stay on the phone with me as he didn't like how the owner was behaving. Whoever the lovely police officers were, they genuinely were a godsend. I was shaking by this point and thought I'm not a violent person I did have to consider what I'd do if he made a move towards my ma. This guy continued to try to argue with the police, refusing to give up the phone until he was told they had their body cams on, and this was tantamount to theft. I genuinely believe the owner has a problem with women, and had every intention of using my mums credit card for theft and fraud. I, and my friends, family and a whole host of other Plymothians thanks to social media, will be avoiding this place like plague. Awful, awful man.

I am from India and I can definitely say I have had the worst curry from here. Ordered tandoori chicken and got sad looking pieces of defrosted chicken which lack any flovor and on top of that still were floating in the water from thawing. The veg curry lacked any flavour too. The rice was undercooked and dry. Never again!

Myself and two friends went into this restaurant hoping to have a meal. We were met by a highly agitated young man who accused us of being drunk and refused to serve us. We certainly were not drunk and when we tried to reason with the man he became abusive. We tried to get an explanation from him as it was a strange and surreal experience. We left and went to the Eastern Eye restaurant where we were warmly welcomed. We certainly will not be returning to Pahuna!

We walked, quietly, into the restaurant and were immediately met by a person, who was obviously in charge, to be told he would not serve us. When we asked why, we were told that we were drunk, this was not the case.

Awful dry chicken with watery gravy.

Excellent authentic Nepalese food, went with my friend who is Nepalese and she agreed. Staff hospitality was exceptional and I would recommend as they are tentative and ensured food and spice levels are to your liking.

Simply put one of the most consistent curry’s I’ve ever had, perfectly spiced and cooked with interesting dishes you won’t see at other curry houses. The icing on the cake is they cater for allergies perfectly and cook the dish’s from fresh each time - unlike other curry houses that pre make their sauces and have no flexibility. Well done, keep up the great work.

So I ended up in Plymouth as my mum went in to the hospital for a operation so got myself a hotel for the night to stay close as I live in Bournemouth and she's in Cornwall. After checking in went for a walk and stumbled upon Pahuna. They was advertising a fantastic deal: curry, rice and naan £12.99 so I took the bait and glad I did. Atmosphere was great, clean and well presented. The waiter was friendly, explained the menu and his recommendations. Food was delicious, not massive portions but just right and for 12.99 who can complain! If I find myself in Plymouth again. I'll be back! Happy eating!

I visited on a quiet Monday as I'm down in Plymouth for a work trip. Even though I was a lone female customer, the two gents who served me were excellent and didnt treat me weirdly as I've experienced in other restaurants When dining alone. The food was excellent, I had a couple of spicy poppadums followed by the chicken chilli Nepalese dry fry (which was so flavourful!) and ice cream. If I'm ever back in Plymouth, I'll be sure to return!

First bad review i have ever written. The customer service on the phone was awful. Saying manager wasn’t in so we can’t get a refund on the wrong items ordered. Luckily we went through Uber and got a refund but won’t ever be using this restaurant again.

Picked this place as open early evening and we wanted food before a visit to the theatre. Very impressed. Warmly welcomed. Reasonable prices. Great food! Piping hot and well presented. Happy with all food served and wait staff were all friendly and polite. Would recommend a visit.

After looking their food photo on line, I decided to give them a try, as it look delicious. I order chicken biryani only. As only want a quick meal. I am not disappointed. The food is very tasty. This will be one of my favourite restaurants to go for Indian food now.

Went here with my friend and really loved the vibes and food. The staff is very friendly, especially Ram, he made sure we are comfortable and enjoying our food and drinks. Food is really perfect. 10/10 recommended.

We had a fantastic time at Pahuna. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious and authentic.

We dined in Pahuna couple of weeks back and absolutely loved the food. Ambience is lovely and Mr.Ram was very kind. They stand by their motto “atithi devo bhava”. I had egg fried rice and so delicious., and our kid had momos which he said “double thumbs up”., so all over wonderful Place and yummy food!

We had a lovely meal here, the food was fantastic. Again see you guys soon ❤️

After a tiring coastal walk of cornwall we were searching for a filling Indian restaurant while crossing Plymouth. And we were lucky enough to find this amazing place. The food here was so amazing that it's smell did not allow me to wait any further and take any pictures. Just wow. Kudos to the Chef and the Staff. 😎♥️

Friendly prompt service, tasty dishes presented well. Only down side was, large portions, for some a bonus, for me was shame, I couldn't do it justice and clear my plate. Update..... now visit monthly and always leave with full bellies, a smile on our faces and appreciation of Nepalese hospitality. Food quality fantastic, free from unnecessary colouring, simply a celebration of Nepalese cuisine served with a smile.

The owner and businessman is insanely judgemental and rude. Not tried the food I’m sure it’s great but I would never choose to pump my money into this man’s pockets. The owner needs to book himself into therapy and gain a more open minded approach to customers and humanity in general. How dare he make assumptions about my family and try to instigate violence. Again, I’m sure his curry is fab though not tried it and now never will after comments made.

Shocking..the waiter was interested in using his right to not serve even though restaurant says open. We went inside first searching for vegetarian options, came out as the menu is confusing and doesn't have any proper vegetarian options. After going back second time to try again, the waiter refused to serve. Never had such bad experience in the UK, disgusting. Wish there was an option for 0 stars. Looking at your reply below, I am sure the food is as pathetic as your language and mindset, concentrate on serving food rather than trying to teach manners to others. We visited this place with small kids and we couldn't decide from menu initially due to kids with us but when we talked among ourselves and went back ,waiter refused and told he won't serve us and it's his right to say no. Very bad behaviour and extremely rude. However restaurant had just one table occupied and it was open as well. Reading reviews tells that they use their right not to serve quite often and that too with Indians specifically. Your reply is self explicit and we are grateful to u to show your hospitality publicly. As a customer we also had every right to choose place and what to eat. We were polite and nice to u and walked away silently. Keep your abusive language to yourself and your behaviour as well. We request you to keep your business to serve food properly and refrain from giving free mannerism classes.

We came across this restaurant by accident really, we needed some food fairly quickly, it was nearby to where we were staying in Sutton Marina. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but soon filled up. We were welcomed warmly and given the menu, it looked pretty good - as it was getting late we decided not to have a ‘big blow out’ session, I had the king prawn biriani and my husband a lamb dish and rice - both were superb and of highly quality. We had a lovely chat with the waiter afterwards. As a previous review says, this is a hidden gem of a restaurant which we will be most definitely visiting again when we come back to Plymouth.

I've never had Napalese food before so when I saw the restaurant, I decided to go in and try some Napalese food. Lamb meat was so plentiful and tasted amazing. Garlic naan was freshly made and just so nice taste. Price was very reasonable, I just loved the food. Staff are very friendly and helpful. This place is a must attend for great tasting food and service. 😍

I’ve lived in Plymouth for years but never been here until this month as it looks a bit shabby from the outside and there are plenty of Indian restaurants in the city. I am so glad I visited though as the inside is lovely, the staff are fantastic and the food is amazing. Their poppadoms are the best I have ever had, and I’m over 50. If you fancy a curry then consider coming here, you won’t be disappointed and it’s very close to the bars of the Barbican and City Centre.

Fancied a bit of a change from the usual curry dishes so went for the chef's speciality 8848 Base Camp dish. I'm blown away by this one. Now one of my favourites to come back to.

GO INSIDE! from the outside this restaurant does not look anything special. However, we overlooked this and we are very glad that we did. Everything about this restaurant was excellent, the service from the waiting staff was friendly but not intrusive and the food was absolutely amazing, tasty and of a high standard. Extremely good value for money. A lovely end to a day spent in Plymouth, we would definitely come here again when visiting the city.

Had a fantastic takeaway meal here. I love Indian food, but the owner suggested I try a Nepalese dish. I told him that my favorite Indian dish is Madras and he chose something he thought I would like. It was superb and probably one of the best Asian meals I have had. I just wish I could remember the name of the dish.

I went there Xmas time with my son, the food was gorgeous really made us go wow, very nice good service, we got taken away a few months later and equally wow.

Couple of times I have ordered food online (Home delivery) and liked the taste so wanted to explore dine in and experience it which happend Yesterday. 1. Ambiance of the Restaurant is very decent 2. Hospitality is great ( Ajay was the one who has helped us and he's very polite friendly and he understands what customers need) 3. Plenty of options in the menu as I am a vegetarian I had Limited option but the food was lip-smacking. 4. Very Resonable & competitive rates. 5. A great option for Asians especially Indians/Pakistanis/ bangaladeshi/Nepalese & Srilankans. it's hardly 10 mins walk from Drake Circus and if your travelling by car, there's a paid parking too. overall the experience was great and I would recommend this hotel for sure.

Eaten here as a group twice now and it was absolutely spot on each time. The food is faultless and full of flavour, we will be back!

Out popdums tasted of oil no potato in vindaloo not much meat in it and delivery to pl5 was 7.50 which I did not know till they sent receipt shocking place for money we normally use school of spice but was shut never again really poor for money

Bit of a mixed bag tonight. I travel around the country and enjoy visiting a wide range of Indian restaurants almost every week. I've been enjoying the cuisine for over 30 years so maybe I'm a bit spoilt but here goes. The "spicy popadoms" were OK taste-wise but not warm, and exactly the same size, shape and texture as what you'd get from a pack of 6 or 8 in the supermarket from Sharwood's / Pataks (other brands available). I would suggest they were. Not a good start. I enjoy a "keema paratha" with my main course, although I'm yet to find an Indian restaurant to match "Laxmi" from Birmingham, and latterly Huddersfield, and whilst not on the printed menu, I've always asked and been served with reasonable attempts. To be given a flat "no" to this request worried me even more - do / can they actually cook anything here ?? The mixed starter was just that - the shish and chicken kebabs were as moist and tender as I've had, but the chicken kebab was bland and the lamb kebab a little tough. Despite the lack of paratha, the Chicken Achari saved the day. Presented on the same plate as the pillau rice (saves washing up a bit I guess), the meat was really tender, plenty of it, in a really rich and tasty sauce - the meat / sauce / rice ratio was pretty much spot on. Service was friendly and efficient but with so many better experiences overall to compare with it's a 5/10 from me.

This was my first time trying this restaurant, and I was left very disappointed. The Korma,was watery and lacked the classic coconut and cashew flavour. Chicken Sagg,was okay (not the best ived had). Again very watery, more flavour than the korma, but not that much. The chicken in both of these curries were dry and chewy. The portion sizes were good for the curries. I can’t say the same for the rice and the chips though.

Very nice Indian but way over priced. £16 for a chicken curry is crazy. £1 for one poppadom. Say no more. Could only afford the starter, one beer and onion bhaji £28.

I went 2nd time with my family, we were 12 together, it was brilliant in quality n service, everyone happy at the end, its really worth to spending time with dear n near with 110% satisfaction. Keep it up Pahuna team !!

While in Plymouth for the weekend,googled Indian restaurants and this came up.A short walk from the Leonardo Hotel where we were staying.The food was nice and hot and tasty.Friendly service.Would defiantly return next time in Plymouth.

Only Restaurant I got opened on Christmas Day 🥰 with my flatmate.. ordered multiples curries...food was very good!... only concern is that when we reached we were informed that there wasnt any place to sit..but while we were waiting for the food to get ready (we saw that two people pop in and got the table), if would have also been informed that they got tables then we would have enjoyed the food there only, instead of coming home !... Anyways...rest food was very good🫕🥘🍲🥃🍾🍷

The most amazing tastes accompanied with a profound service. A hidden gem yet to be discovered in Plymouth. I recommend!

It was pretty empty when we arrived and that was about 815. The staff didn't give you much time to sit and look through the menu before they were there trying to take your order. The food we ordered was really tasty and flavoursome that I cannot fault. It is expensive compared to some restaurants I have been to. If you are going to order a taxi state a time frame you need one for, as we ordered one before finishing our drinks and paying for the bill expecting it to be a while and it was outside within a couple of minutes so we had to rush at the end. So will know for future.

Unfortunately the food really wasn't great, think we'll stick to our usual Indian next time

For the past two years we have walked past Pahuna, more or less daily, frequently saying "We must eat here sometime". Well, last night we finally did and, wow, what have we been missing! The food was delicious, subtly spiced and full of flavour. The staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant has a pleasant ambiance (just a bit quiet, it being a Monday evening). So, take my advice, and don't walk past the door!

We can’t comment on the food as we ordered via Uber app, and the food never came, the driver was rude and unprofessional - this restaurant needs to know that Uber is damaging their service and reputation, we called to explain that Uber did not deliver and on top of that the driver Alexander was very rude and unprofessional and left our meal outside some random house! - the restaurant couldn’t refund us as we’d ordered via Uber, which, we won’t be doing again!

Date of meal 13th October 2023: best food I have eaten in a very long time - totally fresh (so be patient after ordering!) the quality was excellent - I had the traditional salmon curry - it was the best fish curry I’ve ever had - the staff were exceptionally accommodating - they even reduced the spice level in a dish my husband had as he’s not normally keen on spicy food but he loved it - the Lamb Momos were delicious. Shame we do not live in Plymouth otherwise we would be in here all the time! Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough

Was surprised to see this award winning restaurant quiet on a Friday night. My husband and I had never had Nepalese cuisine before so asked the staff for their recommendations. The staff were attentive and helpful and gave us space and time to order. All orders are freshly prepared so if you are after fast food this is not the place for you. However if you want excellent quality food then the wait is so worth it. We had poppadoms and pickles whilst we waited for our mains. I had the traditional salmon curry and it was outstanding in fact the best fish curry I’ve ever eaten! Excellent value for money. Nice relaxing surroundings and comfortable furnishings. Highly recommended.

Pahuna Indian and Nepalese is one of the friendliest restaurants. All of the staff have a smile, are polite and treat you as a friend. The food tastes excellent. The only downside is that I couldn't find a downside and so I have let the management, who were rather hoping that I would find a downside, down. Thank you Ram and family.

Accidental find, We were visiting Plymouth to see Deacon Blue and looking for a curry we found this restaurant. The four of us all chose from the set menu’s and wow we were so impressed, very good portions and very tasty. The staff were very helpful and they had the rugby World Cup on! Good choice of 500 ml bottles of beer, all round very enjoyable experience. Thanks

Seven of us made our fist visit here for a curry night with friends. The menu has so many options that it took us a while to decide what to order. We all had something different. I had the staff lamb curry which was excellent - one of the best lamb curries I ever had. Another of us had the chow mein which he polished off and clearly enjoyed, one thought his chicken was a bit hot but the staff were happy to bring extra yoghurt which did the trick for him. The dumplings looked great and we had a good evening. I'll be going back - there's so much to try and with so many combinations of spices, another experience waiting to be had.

First time I went here it was excellent. On my most recent visit, however, the portions have shrunk significantly whilst the prices have increased. Over £5.00 for what was, quite literally the equivalent of a handful of egg fried rice is frankly ridiculous…..

Ordered 2 starters 2 mains 2 sides 1 rice take away £50.00. Onion bhajis were burnt right through in the bin, how can you send food out inedible the staff don't care, mains and rice 3/4 full at £8.95 each lots of sauce not much meat.

I had a Garlic Chicken Balti and it was generously portioned and absolutely delicious. And an early delivery too, thank you very much!

Good food, good price, friendly attentive waitress. What eating out should be. A slightly odd thing is that mobile reception seems poor inside parts of the restaurant despite being great outside. Maybe some piece of electrical equipment inside is not properly RF suppressed?

Just the most fabulous food I have ever had, so tasty, cooked well and I would recommend not ordering too many dishes as they are so generous, The mixed shish kebab as a starter was amazing.
