The food was mediocre greasy and bland was very dissapointed we were a party of 4 the bill came to over 200.00 which included some drinks , split 4 ways I personally paid 55.00 for some greasy veg spring rolls and some tasteless veg vermicelli thank god for soy sauce , but the worse thing for me were the toilets omg probs the most dirtiest I’ve ever been in 🤦‍♀️was horrified I’m surprised they keep busy , the place needs a full refurb , so dated and looks like it hasn’t been decorated in over 20 years I certainly will not be going back 😳

Four of us ate here Sunday evening and we were all very impressed. The staff we polite and friendly and the food was really good. Portion sizes and quality of ingredients was as good as I've ever had anywhere. 2 of us shared the banquet and 2 had their own starters and mains. All were amazing. Will defiantly be returning soon.

Again I’d like to say we have voted with our feet my self and my friends have stayed away it’s been 5 months so that’s at least 20 visits to your restaurant at average £100 a head I hope your sheer rudeness begging us for a tip and trying to embarrass us has paid of , seems many more feel the same way !! By the look of your reviews People will tip you as they feel they want to not because you embarrass them or beg for a tip Shame on you !!

Friendly service, good food, good atmosphere. Take away always fast and excellent. Our favourite local restaurant. Been going regularly for over 18 years.

Absolutely appalling customer service! I found a hair in the middle of my food just as I started eating it, I called someone over they took the meal away then come back out and asked where I found it he hair in which part of the meal no apology or nothing. Asked if I wanted another meal I said no as this has put me off entirely. My partner then also didn’t eat his meal because this had put us both off. They brought the bill I went to pay (they had knocked just my meal off the bill) even though it had affected the whole meal and nothing was eaten. When I went to pay I said I find it bad I haven’t even had an apology and all I got was we’ve deducted the meal off the bill he slammed the card reader down and tapped his finger for me to pay! No one member of staff apologised and all made me feel like it was my doing and I’d done wrong? Avoid at all costs.

Food was ok but service horrendous, we were rushed from the moment we came in to the point of been asked 5 times what we were ordering in the space of 5 minutes: Due to this asked for service charge to be removed and was told this was unfair because ‘we have stayed open for you’. They had not stayed open for us there were several other people in the restaurant. We advised the service charge was optional and due to the rude service we would like it removing, she continued to argue this was unfair and that they had stayed open just for us. Untrue. Avoid at all costs.

Would rate 0 if it was an option!!! We arrived here at 9:55pm the restaurant stated it shut at 11pm. We were rushed from the second we walked in, hadn’t even finished our course before they started bringing out other food! We hadn’t even been in the restaurant for half an hour by the time we had finished a set menu! Staff were horrendous, they added on a service charge which we politely asked to be taken off as we didn’t feel it worthy! The woman then got argumentative and said her staff had stayed longer to serve us. We reminded her they were open until 11pm and it was only 10:30pm. She was argumentative qnd we asked if this was optional, she said yes so we asked her to remove the service charge and she then told us to just ‘pay the bill’. Will never return!!

Wow !! I’ve been going there over 30 years and go several times a month Tonight was perfect and the food was lovely we ate chattered and when we asked for the bill there was a service charge of 10 percent which is annoying as we always leave a good tip so I paid my half of the bill and my friend paid the rest on his card but opted not to pay the service charge on principle , she asked him to pay half he declined so she said but the staff served you and you don’t want to pay a penny ! At this point I couldn’t keep my mouth shut I said it’s law they have to pay the staff so why put service charge on ? She said it’s optional ,so I said we opted not to pay it on principle she said it’s un fair as staff served us , I went on to say so what your telling us is never to come here again as I refuse to be confronted , and she tried to Shame us into paying a tip !! By by pagoda it’s the last time I’m ever going there what disgusting behaviour !!

Visited for pr-booked meal as we have done many times over the years. It was not busy. Starters arrived on Plastic Trays which are not Restaurant standard (child like). The Main course was OK but the Rice was served in nasty Plastic dishes, The Banana Fritters were inferior, which could be excused because the Chef could not see inside them. When I complained to reception I was told she only worked there and was not boss. The Service charge was deducted from the bill on request. Overall a disappointing experience. Definitely NOT "RESTAURANT" STANDARD.

We visited Pagoda last night for the first time and it won't be our last. The food was delicious, every course as flavourful as the last. We ordered from the set menu and were not disappointed. There was lots of variety. The staff were excellent and very attentive. We will definitely return.

My family have been coming to the pagoda for over 15 years and the service is always impeccable. (Childhood favourite of mine) The food is authentic and amazing! There is something on the menu for everyone! Just the right amount of spices and sauces, not too salty!I’d recommend order a number of plates and sharing, so you get a taste of what the menu has to offer. The portions are generously sized meaning it great for couples or families! (Try the flaming platter to start and the bao buns!!)The staff and owner are always on hand and ensure they cater to your every need. Polite and friendly the staff always remember us and service is always with a smile. It’s important to remember all businesses have taken a hard hit due to the pandemic and this business in particular is a diamond in the rough that deserves some attention! Had a lovely family meal tonight at the pagoda been coming here for 20 years the food was fantastic as usual will definitely be coming back.

We decided to try the Pagoda as friends do recommend it. We had six starters six mains three egg fried rice two noodles and salt and vinegar fries. It was spot on. The only thing ( my mistake ) was the crispy noodles. We all really enjoyed the meal and thought it was good value at less than £15 per head. Look forward to the restaurant opening as we will be visiting.

Take away meals were heavily laden with salt.Highly unpleasant.waste of money. Had numerous meals before but this is worst I’ve had.

The staff are very good and the food is nice but its not cheap, so we probably won't go again because its mediocre for the price really. I also don't like being asked for a tip when paying, we'd already paid enough at £20 each.

We called here on 10/10/20 after a walk with the dog around Hemsworth Water Park for a takeaway. The Szechuan Chicken was mostly water chestnuts in a watery sauce and the fried beef in ok sauce not much better. Combination starter was acceptable.Very expensive for what we had including 1 portion of fried rice it was over £24 for 2 people. I dont think there is any excuse for producing this poor quality food.

Amazing food, best Chinese in the area! Always pleasant when visiting. Such a lovely atmosphere, favourite place to eat!

2hrs 30 min for 3 courses and still no mains as was just forgotten about even after raising issue with staff. Other tables came and went but we sat till we did the same but left telling them to put the rest of our dishes as take away and left

What a place to eat!! The meet add greet at the door, to the social distancing at the tables. This place has every thing on high standards. The staff are amazing with everything. Now we need to talk about the food... Unbelievable!! The food is out of this world. Out of this world! It's that good, I'm hungry now!!

Came mid afternoon for the Happy Hours meal , just £6.90 for soup and a main. Drinks reasonable too.Excellent value, nice surroundings and friendly staff. Only one other couple there, hope it gets busier for them. We'll be back anyway.

This was the place I wanted to go after lockdown We went as a family and whilst the Sunday buffet wasn’t on for obvious reasons the lunch menu was on and we had a combination of main menu and lunch menus. All the staff were great and after 4 months of waiting it did not disappoint at all . The food was fantastic

Ordered various takeaways for 5 people. Beef and pork were fine but the sweet and sour chicken was horrendous, inedible as the chicken was so tough and stringy. I reckon it had been reheated a few times !! Ruined what would have been a good meal.

After 4 months of lockdown the only place we wanted to visit for our first tentative steps out into the world was The Pagoda in Wakefield. This has been our favourite restaurant for more years than I care to remember and we have so missed it. It was so lovely to be welcomed back by the wonderful staff and I’d almost forgotten how good the food is. What a wonderful evening and we felt very safe with procedures that have been put in place. It was good to be back and let’s hope it’s the first of many visits in the coming months. Thank you so much to all The Pagoda team xx

Me and my wife have been coming here for many years and we've never had a bad meal or encountered bad service at any time The food is always nice and reasonably priced. Reading some reviews they must not have been to the same restaurant as us. Will and Amy have been serving us for many years and are still as nice as we first met them . We hopefully will be eating here for for many more years and no doubt the food and service will stay the same See you soon

We've been going to this restaurant for around 15 years and we've never had a bad experience, so quite surprised to see some customers didn't enjoy it. The service has always been polite and friendly, aswell as prompt, even at very busy times. The food has always been very good.We once went very early and found that there was a special offer on for around a couple of hours but I think this is only during the week. Well worth a visit.

First visit this evening, all the staff were attentive and friendly, excellent service, excellent food, great evening. We’d definitely recommend

I am writing on behalf of a friend who has not access to a computer. She and her husband visited about 2 weeks ago and says she will never ever go again. She says the staff were rude as usual. She asked for soya sauce which in my opinion should be on table anyway? The waitress was rude when she requested soya sauce almost like she couldn't be bothered. This is not an isolated incident I myself have experienced the rudeness of many of the staff ar this restaurant. You need to treat your customers with courtesy and respect. The ironic thing also u ask for a tip when pay on card. you need to up your game Pagoda why would you expect people to leave a tip when they are not welcomed?

The food price is good and the food is enjoyable. Will come again if I am at the area. The staff are lovely

Called in last minute for an early Saturday dinner. Quickly seated and the Australian Shiraz we ordered arrived promptly. Thoroughly enjoyed the flaming starter for two, the sweet & sour my wife had was lovely, not stodgy as they sometimes can be. I had the most gorgeous honey pork Hong Kong style. Lovely food, great service, will come back again soon!

The service was not great. We were shown to our table by a waiter who did not smile once while we were there. The food was not great. I had sweetcorn soup to start, it was exceptionally bland with not many sweetcorn in it. I left most of it but when it was removed I was not asked why I had left most of it. The main course was a little better but had to ask for soy sauce to give it some flavour. At the end of the meal the plates were removed but no member of staff came to ask if we wanted anything else or the bill. We will not again.

Me and my parents visited for lunch today and thoroughly enjoyed it. We all had the Sunday buffet which was priced at a very reasonable £8.50 per person. Upon entering the premises we were welcomed by a friendly waitress and seated quickly. Another waiter came and took our drinks orders and again, he was very polite and brought our drinks over with very little hesitation. The selection isn’t as vast as the larger buffet places I have been to but, the selection was still varied. I had the chicken and sweetcorn soup, a mixed plate for starters - spare rib, chicken wing, prawn toast and a spring roll. Each item was hot and tasty. For the main, I tried the chips, noodles, sweet and sour chicken, beef curry and the mixed rice. Again, it was all very tasty and extremely filling. The buffet is plated for you, meaning no over filled plates or cross contamination of items on the buffet. You can go back up to the buffet as many times as you please so, no need to over fill plates anyway. The waiter came to our table a couple of times to make sure everything was okay and if we needed any drinks, very friendly and attentive. Overall a very nice meal out, friendly staff, tasty food and a pleasant atmosphere. We will definitely be visiting again.

Two main dishes, two portions of rice, and spring rolls arrived five minutes after ordering. All very hot and cooled very quickly. This, alongside the impossibility of ordering something slightly different to the menu choices (e.g. beancurd in curry sauce rather than sweet and sour sauce) suggests they had been pre-prepared and microwaved. Sharp/blunt staff. Payed contactless at the end because the card machine had that option, only to have the waiter tut, sigh, and tell me that contactless isn't allowed and that they'll get in trouble. Nonsense. Service is less of a factor in our decision to not return than the poor, warmed-up food which totalled £31 for two people.

12 of us were at the Pagoda for a birthday treat and the restaurant is very well decorated. The food is extremely tasty and the service was helpful and friendly. Probably the best chinese meal I have had.

A large group of us went here for a birthday meal, and chose various things off the menu. Judging by the faces of my fellow diners I don't think any of us were happy with what they chose.

A bunch of rude, obnoxious staff who don't even know what day it is (literally). Went for the happy hour special to be told it's not on (yet no mention of this anywhere on the website or in the restaurant - it was even still advertised in the entrance area). Fair enough if it wasn't on, but to false advertise was wrong. It was the response to us asking about it that was ridiculously unprofessional. I was told "What do you want us to do about it? We're not giving you it". The male staff member in a blue shirt at the entrance then began to proceed to argue with me about the fact it was on, that I'd 'already asked tons of waiters' (I hadn't, I'd asked the 1 waiter that originally sat us at our table who proceeded to tell me it was Saturday and it wasn't on... when it was Monday!) Then continued to argue the toss and speak highly unprofessionally, all whilst not even bothering to look up from his receipts. In the meantime, another staff member had turned the poster advertising the happy hour deal around so it wasn't visible any longer. Fair enough if you don't want to run the offer at this busy time of the year, but ensure you advertise this clearly and not proceed to argue with your customers who have taken the time to travel to your restaurant. Horrendous place that I won't be visiting again! Avoid!

Went here last night in a large group, there was around 20 of us. For such a big group and the rest of the restaurant being full, the service we received was amazing. Each course came quickly after the one before, but at no point was the food quality compromised. Beautiful food, was so good that I had to keep eating even thought I was so full! Will definitely be coming back again!

Been to the pagoda 4 times over the past month, the banquet is fantastic value, the Saturday lunch is good value and the Sunday buffet is fabulous and also really good value too , the food is lovely and piping hot

We've been coming here for many years. Always our go to restaurant when going out for a meal with extended family BUT after our last visit I think we need to find somewhere else.

Had a fantastic evening here last night for my mum’s birthday! The staff were extremely helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The meal was exceptional. This is why we keep coming back. Thank you!

Been visiting Pagoda for many years and never had a bad meal. The early bird offer is a bargain on a weekday & for special occasions me and my family love a banquet with 4 courses. Shocked at some of the reviews saying staff are rude as we’ve never had a problem and always seem so welcoming and polite. The food is always hot and delicious, I genuinely have nothing negative to say & will continue to visit for many years to come!

Staff were pleasant which surprised me after some of the other reviews. Old fashioned decor, but decent food.

Wednesday 30th October booking 5:30 shown to our table. The drinks were spot on, the order taken then the fiasco started when the service started it was very fragmented with the starters being served up then to top it all two of them had been ordered.

Went for a buffet there- Staff quite rude- No sense of politeness or decorum. Buffet choices were lousy, What little that was on offer at the buffet tasted horrid. Only managed to eat a bit to not seem rude. Would have to be paid to visit this place again.

Visited on Sunday 6th October the food was terrible, Noodles burnt chow main covered in slime sweet and sour chicken just like rubber been going for years will never go again this restaurant as gone down hill . DO NOT GO

Surprise visit for my 65th birthday. An excellent choice by my wife. Food super and lots of it from an extensive menu. Watson our waiter was brilliant, he informed us of ingredients and kept us amused all night. Our first visit but wont be our last. A busy restaurant on a Friday night but all service was first class, not too long to wait for anything, looking forward to my doggy bag!!!!

My girlfriend and I visited for the first time in a while and remembered why we love this restaurant so much. The food was delicious and was prepared very quickly. We decided to go for the chicken chow mein and salt and pepper chicken, and I would highly recommend both of these dishes. Our waiter was a nice gentleman with a grey moustache, unfortunately I do not remember his name. He could not have been more friendly. The staff at pagoda have always been warm and welcoming, but this man went above and beyond. He even wished us a safe journey home on our way out of the restaurant. Overall I would say our visit was exceptional and I would definitely recommend pagoda to anyone looking for an amazing Chinese food experience.

Were going to call on the way home from Nostell Priory but trip fell through. We decided to drive over anyway, well worth the 28 mile round trip, best Chinese resteraunt we've ever visited.

Unfortunately we’ve had takeaways from Pagoda before but not quite learnt our lesson.

Latest of many visits and still thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent choice of food - all great quality and ample portion sizes. very efficient and friendly staff, fantastic internal decor and middle of the road pricing - not the cheapest but sometimes you are willing to pay for the best. It's our favourite Chinese and we will surely return.

It is over 2 years since we last ate at the Pagoda and I think that on this occasion it was the same menu as the last time we visited. Having said that the staff were very attentive, the restaurant was spotless and the food that we ordered was well prepared and reasonably priced. The price of drinks is expensive as seems to be the norm in Chinese restaurants and the choice of dessert was limited and again expensive.

Yes, it's true, an order of Trappist monks are confirmed to be masquerading, badly I might add, as waiters in the Pagoda, Sandal.

Fantastic Sunday buffet, excellent choice of dishes and great idea to be served as it stops people piling food high and leaving it.

No problem with food however staff very rude. It was quite cold in there mentioned to waiter not interested didn't know whether air conditioner on and made no offer to check or maybe put us somewhere warmer. The customer care is rubbish. General attitude unhelpful and not interested. I never ever leave a tip for this reason

I ordered takeaway which was very nice. Large portion and reasonably priced. The portion of prawn toast was huge.

Had a fantastic meal with a life long friend on Friday the 12th of April. Food was perfect, atmosphere spot on. Customer service exceptional. Value for money yes yes yes! Visited the far east and Hong Kong just like being back there. Worth a visit to experience amazing food.

I can honestly say this excuse for a Chinese buffet is without doubt the worst eating experience we have ever had !!! And believe me we have had a few stinkers , main menu is OK at the best but the buffet is appalling

We ate here 10th march and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals 5 adults and a 4 year old and an almost 6 year old.There isnt a great choice but what they have is lovely and warm and at 8.95 for the buffet all you can eat it is better value and quality than the one in trinity walk which we visited in february this year.We will certainly go back again to the Pagoda.

Best chinese restaurant I'v been to since the 80's/90's when Jade Palace was in Barnsley. Food delicious, staff polite,friendly and always happy to help. Good service can't complain about anything!!

The manager was very polite in walking us to our seats. The drinks and food waiters swiftly got our food and we were eating straight away. Excellent food and service!

Been a few times and always enjoy the buffet. £8.50(I think) for all you can eat. Limited selection (not too great for vegetarians) but plenty to go at. Always hot and fresh. Usually have ribs, chicken wings, chicken toast and spring rolls on the starter section with soup and prawn crackers.

We didn't even make it past trying to order the first dish before my husband decided he wanted to leave due to the rude and thoroughly unhelpful staff. When my husband tried to tell the waiter he felt he was being rude and felt that he didn't want to eat there the waiter stormed off. Wouldn't good customer service have been an apology and an attempt to make amends?

WOW was very impressed with the Pagoda from start to finish, Excellent food, hospitality and a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant, We recommend that you try the Duck and pay it a visit and see for yourself, and great value too

Well I sat down ordered a drink and then set about the menu. My drink arrived I ordered my meal and then went to toilet on my return I find 3 people around my table serving my order!!! How quick! Got the feeling that I got what ever was simmering in the background... Curry chips pint of beer and beansprouts £22. Not impressed won't be going back anytime soon

Salt & Pepper Ribs huge and bland, no salt & pepper coating.

As x4 adults we reguarily meet in this restaurant for a catch up and good food. Same menue "Banquest B" with an addition of sweet and coffee as required. Good atmosphere, surroundings and food. The waiting staff are very efficient and very freindly.

As always our meal was excellent and the service was superb very friendly staff and extremely efficient love this place and will definitely be coming back

Last time we visited meal was lovely but this was a set menu and was dire soup tasteless duck was good starters over done spare ribs well overcooked fillet steak again wasn't fillet steak at all very bland taste meal was expensive for what it was had hoped for better come on pagoda you can do better if there was another Chinese nearby I wouldn't choose this one

Its good value if you go for the early bird,,,,,,,, I eat here with mates & have a quick catch up about every 6 weeks...... its chines food with chines setting................ the staff are mostly chines, so the atmosphere is good........ however the car parking is limited as there are other restaurants share the same spaces

8 of us went for a meal here and 4 were unhappy with the meal. Meals were cold or insipid looking. The special was warm in parts as though done in microwave. The meals were quick to arrive, too quick really. Very disappointed and will never go there again even though it is less than 5 mins from where I live.

This restaurant is very nice, the food is well presented and good quality and the service is excellent.

Don’t bother there are far better places around. Never encountered such rude staff, they clearly couldn’t care less.

13 of us turned up here for a 18th birthday celebration but we mis calculated our party as we had booked a table for 12 and the lady was very rude about it.

Sunday buffet, good value, good food, good selection, always hot, eat as much as you like. that about sums it up. Been coming here for a few years as food is good but place is really starting to look sad, old and tired décor, nothing has changed for years.

Made the right call by booking a table, it gets very busy on a weekend. Not been here for years but thought we would try it out as was always nice before. Greeted politely and shown to a table within minutes of arriving. Good selection of drinks, wine not too badly priced around £15 for a bottle of White Zinfandel. Starters were lovely and very good size. We all had different main dishes which were cooked fresh, arrived hot and were very tasty. Will be booking again soon. A must try if near Wakefield. Overall service was excellent and friendly.

We've been going here for many years and enjoyed the food and service but the last visit was disappointing. The staff seem to have given up, the menu is tired, the toilets were broken and the food tasted like it was reheated from the earlier buffet. What a shame. The staff (apart from one pleasant lady) seemed utterly depressed.

I have used this restaurant a few times but it is not the same the quality of the food is now poor for the price you pay. It’s very nice inside & the staff are polite but the food is not good it’s undercooked & the meat in this last meal I could not eat won’t be going back.

First time here. Was looking for a good Chinese without having to go into centre of Leeds and this looked worth a try.

This place has not changed much since the last time I was here, but it is a nice place; the staff are friendly and polite, and the food is delicious; I had Scallop with Ginger and Spring Onion and my partner had King Prawn in Honey and Lemon, both were delicious; if you manage to get through a starter and a main course, they have tasty desserts as well; I couldn't manage a dessert, but my partner did.

Yet again not a good experience. The last time we ate here we said we wouldn’t return, 4 years later we did it again. Food less than average staff like mute robots and very rude. Eating out is supposed to be a nice experience, the individuals running Pogoda in my humble opinion need to recognise this.

Came here with my wife tried getting in week before but fully booked when you go you will understand why it is always busy the food and service is fantastic very quick nothinv too much trouble come back time and time again love the place would highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning soon .

We have been going to this restaurant occasionally for many years but never before been to the Sunday Buffet. I was a bit unsure but it was very good with the food being regularly replenished and only cooked in smallish amounts so it wasn't left long standing. The quality of all the food was just as good as when we have eaten in the evening off the Menu. The portions served on the buffet were generous but I think you can go back for more if you still have room. It was very good value at £8.50 each.

2 starters, 2 mains, 2 sides and 2 drinks costing £55 I didn't think was cheap, especially when we pay half that from a local Chinese takeaway. Perhaps that's the tight Yorkshireman in me but I do appreciate the drinks, table service etc. etc. bump up the cost.

You will find my nannan and grandad here EVERY Sunday for their Sunday buffet without fail. The rest of us tag along when we can. We have all come to love this Chinese as well as the staff. If there’s ever a family event , we’re at the pagoda. Just amazing.

Came midweek as a party of four.We got escorted to a table emediatly and didn't feel preasured to order.We asked staff about various dishes on the menu and we found the information very helpful .the food was freshly cooked to perfection and very generous helpings.One of our party had mobility issues so couldn't use the upstairs toilets and was escorted to the downstairs toilet facility that was clean and well facilitated..The price of the meal was reasonable but this food is top quality worth every penny..THANKS TO ALL STAFF AT THE POGDA .keep up the excellent service.THAN You..
