The most expensive Chinese takeaway I’ve had. One person recommended it and many said give it a miss as the food is expensive and mediocre . The pork fried rice greasy and unappetising,, chicken balls dry with tasteless batter,,salt and pepper chicken wings left uneaten. Disappointing and I would not recommend. I would not return.

We visited this restaurant after seeing some good reviews. My daughter had good GCSE’s results and we wanted to celebrate. Well we was not disappointed it was the best Chinese food that we have had it was amazing. We couldn’t eat it all as the portions were very generous so we took a doggy bag home. The customer was excellent aswell. We will definitely be back.

Visited this restaurant for a take away meal whilst visiting York. I was a bit apprehensive as I can be quite fussy, however there was no need. The staff were lovely and helpful, the food was wonderful!! It was cooked to order and we did not mind waiting. The portions were large, and a chowmein could easily feed 2 people. The only reason we had left overs was because of how big the portion sizes were. I will definitely be going back next time I’m in York.

I’ve visited Paddyfields with friends and family multiple times over the last couple of years and always felt I should leave some positive feedback. The restaurant and its staff are lovely and very kind to families with children. The food is excellent and of consistently high quality. My only advice is to take their ‘spice’ rating seriously. If you choose something marked very spicy, you get exactly what you should expect! Highly recommended.

If I could award 6 stars I would. We were 8 friends, each ordered a different main & we shared. Every single dish was delicious, tasty, fresh & superbly executed. The service was spot on, attentive & timely. This restaurant offers a lovely experience at great value for money. Thank you, we all had a brilliant evening.

This is the second time we have been disappointed with the service here. The food is great but the service is rubbish and left my friends and I with a bad taste rather than a great one. We waited 90 minutes for our main course and then when we paid the bill we were told we hadn't paid enough and the staff couldn't understand as we paid card and cash that it did total the bill amount! This left us feeling very embarrassed. Sadly we will not return after this episode

Visited here last night for the first time last night, as part of a group for a leaving do. None of us were disappointed with the quality of the food and the portion sizes. Many of us ordered one of the set dinners, prices start at £19.50 each (min 2 people) which includes a huge choice of dishes to choose your selection from. I ordered with 2 others so we got 4 mains to choose from the vast menu, which included chow mein, lemon chicken, chilli fried beef, and beef in black bean. This all came with a selection of starters which were steaming hot and delicious and special fried rice with the mains. Great value, too much, so I took some home for the next day. The service was polite, efficient and friendly. The drinks were not overpriced. Overall a great night. Not a very big place, so I guess booking is advisable. There was also a steady stream of people coming in for takeaway. Will definitely be making a re-visit with the family!!

We made a reservation for 6:30 on Wednesday 30th September. Upon arrival we were greeted in the most courteous, friendly and welcoming manner. Two real gentlemen attended to us, the restaurant though small is delightful, calm relaxing and atmospheric. The service is just right, attentive, not rushed, with a lovely little bit of banter from the boss. The wine excellent quality and value. The food...wow, we opted for the set menu and were amazed at the choice, the starter was just wonderful, crispy wontons, spring rolls, all jam packed with prawns etc. As for the mains, we could choose any three mains from the menu, the portions were huge, we have enough in our doggie bag to feed another two people! The chicken, prawns, pork, all delicious. All in all, a wonderful restaurant that I would without doubt recommend, and definitely return ASAP.The gentleman in charge was an absolute delight, so subtle, professional yet charming!Five stars all round!

Had a meal at Paddyfields on Sat 26th Sep for the first time since living in the area (2007 !). Absolutely brilliant is all i can say. Busy yes both take away and eat in and I am not surprised, the food is as the title states, superb. My partner and I opted for set menu D off the menu and we wished we hadn't ! and I mean that in a good way. We were absolutely STUFFED !!!.It was circa £23 each but it was well worth it. we started with (before the set meal arrived) a big plate of prawn crackers and dipping sauce, then the starters: spare ribs, spring rolls, prawn rolls then a huge plate of duck and pancakes etc and by that time we were getting full. Then the Mains. This included as standard a big portion of fried rice and any three main dishes. we opted for Singapore noodles, beef in ginger and spring onions and sweet and sour pork. All I can say is it was all fantastic and I it was without doubt the best Chinese meal I have ever had (and I have lived in Hong Kong for 2 years where you would expect the best). We ended up bringing the rice home with us as it appears most people are over faced with the amount of food and doggy-bags are normal, we even got another free portion of prawn crackers to add to it ! The staff are first class and so attentive and I can honestly say to anyone that if you go you will not be disappointed. You really need to book a table though. Well done to all at Paddyfields as we could see that you were working hard in kitchen and front of house. See you soon for sure ! Andy from Strensall.

Ate here whilst staying in the village. The mini veggie spring rolls were fine although I wasn't so keen on the mashed prawn rolls. There wasn't anything wrong with them - I ordered them as I hadn't had them before and they just weren't to my taste.I went for an old favourite, sweet and sour chicken with noodles and it was perfectly ok. Portion far too large, as with so many Yorkshire establishments. Not going to set the world on fire but happy to recommend. Especially as no-one else in Haxby seemed to be serving food that night

We were recommended to Paddyfields during our stay near York. Been twice now and very satisfied both times. Portions are generous and very tasty. Ingredients seem very fresh and well cooked. Chillies are very hot! Staff are particularly welcoming in an old fashioned way. Spills were not only wiped up but dried too. Really could not have been better. It is smallish though and any noisy table seems to fill the room, but that just become entertaining. Definitely not your average Chinese. Looking forward to going again.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here last night. The food was piping hot and delicious. Excellent spring rolls and salt and pepper shredded beef. I have been to the Paddyfields on one occasion and ordered take-away on several others. Every time the standard of the food was exceptional with generous portions. I live in Scarborough, and there isn't a chinese restaurant there that comes close to the standard of the Paddyfields. The restaurant is relatively small and has been full on every occasion I have seen it, so I strongly recommend booking. Service is to a high standard and the atmosphere within in the restaurant is ambient and warm. Although the menu is rather pricey, I would say you get what you pay for in terms of quality and quantity and will most certainly be returning in the future.

went to this resturant last night, its the 3rd time we have been although we always thought it a little on the pricey side. we ordered duck for our starter which was very nice, salted beef again ok but was very dry probaly due to the salt i guess, one portion of rice and the mixed seafood dish £12.50. the prawns and the squid tasted of nothing at all, the mussels where nice but the biggest insult was they put chopped fish sticks (oceon sticks) in the meal i would not expect this in the poorest of chinese returants my wife and i came to the conclusion that the fish in this dish was out of them awfull frozen tasteless bags you buy in the super markets and a dish costing more than £12 you expect a little better. what a shame this resturant is now over priced and using cheap produce.. including a bottle of wine this cost us £58.00 unfortunately wont be going again...

My husband and I have got takeaways from here since it opened. The food was always lovely, albeit rather pricey. However, after decided to 'treat' ourselves with a rare night out to visit the restaurant, I have to say I was very disappointed. I'm not sure if this place is still run by the same poeple, as we didn't recognise anyone, but the customer service was shocking! We arrived at the restaurant and were offered drinks immediately. Our orders were taken and our starter delivered to us farely promptly. However, we then waited an age to get our main meals with no prawn crackers offered to compensate for this, which were subsequently wrong. I was delivered a different meal to what I ordered, which was something that I didn't like. Upon my bringing this to the waiters attention, I was told to "try it, it's lovely". He then went on to say "well, I don't have any of what you want you left, so you'll have to pick something else". By this time my husband's meal was getting cold, so I refused and just ended up eating rice! The thing that annoyed me the most was that I never once recived an apology. I even apologised for not eating the dish I didn't like! There was no free drink/complimentary offering to compensate for their mistake, we were simply given a polite goodbye and ushered out of the door. Suffice to say this really ruined our evening. Ultimately, as people have said, there are much nicer and cheaper places to eat in York. Perhaps, their previous reputation has gone to their heads a little?? What a shame, as they have now lost a regular customer due to one silly mistake that could easily have been rectified.

I came here tonight after it being reccomended by some friends. It's apparent that this place has a huge fan base and I can definetely see why! It's really cosy and intimate inside with eyecatching blue lights in the window, and really friendly and sweet staff. The friends I went with are regulars and the staff certainly remembered them which was really nice and made us feel very welcome, even though i was a newbie. We shared a Hors D'ouvres special for starter which consisted of spring rolls, wontons, prawn toast and sticky ribs which were amazing! Don't be shy, get your fingers messy and dig in. 4 of us shared 3 mains and some soft noodles and egg fried rice as sides. The chicken satay is the BEST satay i've ever had and I reccomend the malibu chicken as well as it's nice to have something creamy if you've had spicy things too. Overall, I had a wonderful time and I cant wait to come back. The menu is really varied so I think it's best to share a few things so you can taste as much as possible. The location is also really good with it being in Haxby, a small town about 3 miles from York city centre so an easy drive or taxi journey, plus the bus stop's a stone's throw away. Get yourself to Paddy's!
