Some of these reviews are a nonsense... Pj fish and chips are the nicest around, beautiful batter fish, which is normally a large piece and the chips are lovely... Never had a bad meal... It's my go to chippy and I live in Wakefield

We spent 22 pounds on fish and chips. It was disgusting and we have felt unwell for days. The shop smelt bad and it was so greasy. Worst fish and chips ever.

Lived here 24 years. Been poisoned twice from here. I'd forget about it happening the first time. It was my wife that reminded me. It's not been the same since it changed owners. Neither cooks now how to make fish and chips. I'd give zero stars if I could. Greasy sh** if you ask me. D.N.G...

I have been using this chippy for many years. I only have a fish but other family members love the chips, scraps and fish cakes. It is consistently providing a great taste.

When we got home fish cooked perfect sadly chips not fully cooked mire attention to detail is required. Fish cakes lack fish?

Absolutely the best fish + chips around . Always quality produce and well cooked and served by excellent, efficient staff. We travel 6 miles each way to come for fish + chips at least once a week.

I moved into the area a year ago and this has by far been the best take away I have come across. The food quality is exceptional, the prices are good and the service is always 100%. What makes this place stand out for me though is the food safety standards are first rate. I struggle to find places I trust and PJ’s observes excellent practices. This makes me return time and time again!

I reviewed PJ’s 2 years ago where I wrote “Best fish & chips in West Yorkshire! Although I live in Lancashire now, I am fortunate enough to be able to visit the Leeds area every couple of weeks and still head to PJ’s every time I visit. There’s always that little bit of extra flavour to their fish & chips that others cannot compete with and their prices are incredibly cheap, approximately £2.50 - £3.00 less than my local fish & chip shops! The quality is consistently great and the staff are always friendly. I love this place!

Whatever reviews are negative does not reflect my experience of this place (excuse pun) . The staff are excellent the product is the best in the area. The price is reasonable. Plan your visit because it is very popular….but the queue moves quickly!

Went at 8.10pm and was greeted by a rude lady when I walked in. She shouted we don’t have much left, what are you wanting?. And I asked for 2 fish and chips and she told me there’s nothing left as they shut at 8. On the website it says 9 o clock close. No need to be rude when they are the ones who have caused the problem with not displaying the correct closing time.

We've been going here for years and cannot fault the fish and chips. The portions are so large and the batter is light and crispy. The staff are always pleasant to deal with too. Never saw any unhygienic practices either, I find some of the reviews very surprising to say the least.

Called here for lunch which we ate outside the shop. They do provide a bin for your rubbish. The fish & chips were lovely as usual. The batter is delicious.

Ive no idea if this place has been taken over but i called for FaC for me and my family july 17th 2020 ,the fish wasnt fresh and the chips were living in grease when i saw the fish wasnt being cooked fresh i should...

Go most weeks on a lunchtime , quality fish & chips , good value. Always a queue which tells you its popular.

I used to like this chippy a lot but have to agree that the size of the fish and standard has considerably dropped but the standard of hygiene in these Corona virus times is dreadful. The woman serving me handled money and without washing her hands or having gloves touched the bread cake for a fish butty, I bet she hadn't sanitised her hands the whole time she was there. You also have to get a fork out of the box that everyone else has had their hands in, place should be shut down in the times we are in, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Consistantly good proper quality fish and chips. Best in the area we travel 6 miles to get them. Excellent staff and good opening times. Car park to the front.

This used to be the best fish shop in the area but somethings happened! Both last 2 visits have resulted in fish that's almost non existant covered in a dry batter and basically horrible. I'm afraid they won't get anothet chance, gonna have to find...

I would not serve this to a dog. £11.00 for two meals that were not even touched. Greasy and smelt really bad. Waste of time and money. AVOID see photo looks like a load of SLOP slapped on paper and served. Looks and smells disgusting

Just about the worst fish I have ever had, dried out thin fish in an abundance of batter, had to throw it away. Never usually feel strongly enough to post bad reviews but this was just awful. Usually average/ok but won’t go back.

Sadly the portion size of the chips was smaller than usual but they were still lovely. Sadly I couldn't say the same for the fishcake, it was dry and extremely overcooked, in fact it was inedible. Luckily my partners fish was reasonable so we shared...

My Husband and I have visited this Fish and chip shop on a numerous occasions, the food has always been fresh and delicious, it's our treat when we're in Wakefield, I have used other fish & chip shops and none can compare to PJ's.

Been a regular but not any more. Chip potions are up and down. And our recent order ....one fish was very dry...struggled to swollow it. Peas also very dry.

El personal siempre y lugar popular. jolly Pescado siempre ha sido delicioso, completo, blanco, raro y fresca. Fuimos un domingo almuerzo en camino a casa de trabajar hace unos meses. Mujer miembro del personal antipático y sirvieron con una media de pescado seco. Fuimos hace unas tres semanas, tarde de sábado a mediodía. Muy pequeña porción chip pero eso no fue lo peor. Maridos medio pescado seco. La mía era casi plana y tan seca, como si calentado de frío o la noche anterior. Sé que las horas han reducido, no sé si el nuevo propietario, pero no se quede por pedir. Por desgracia, visita final después de todos estos años.

Been several times on a Friday teatime and never had a complaint. Went tonight (Tuesday 2nd May) and through them in the bin. The shop was empty and the batter tasted burnt. So I won't be rushing back, especially on a week day

I am a local PJ's is by far the best fish and chips in the area. Staff are very welcoming the fish and chips are hot and fried fresh. The fish is white and taste great.

Definitivamente no recomendaría visitar este fish and chips. La tienda parece muy bonito desde fuera, pero una vez que entras en su recibió la amarga cara asistente grosero. En la mis dos viajes a la tienda me han cambiado, han dado shot el orden equivocado y presenciado grosero arrogante del servicio al cliente. Desde aquí llamamos en excursión a Wakefield. . Colas de puerta a puerta. rápido de pescado muy sabroso y patatas fritas bien hecho es un opción para llevar aquí sin asientos. Si su área Tingley wakefield es muy bien vale la pena una visita.

there are 4 fish and chip shops in my locality. I've tried them all in the last 25 years. PJ's is the best. Quality fish and chips with scraps and a buttered bread bun if that's your thing. Good portion size at a reasonable price. There is usually a queue but the staff get to you quickly and i don't mind a little wait because i know they're worth it.

I've been coming to PJs for about 15 years and yet to have a bad meal. Always a friendly greeting and very reasonably priced. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Visited afew times now. Always seems busy. Beautiful fish and can also recommend the fish cakes. Even the kids love their fish & chips! Only criticism I have it that sometimes you get a good size portion of chips and sometimes it can be disappointingly small. Would recommend a visit.

Lightly battered specials are absolutely fabulous. Only place I eat fish n chips from. Keep it up guys and girls. Peas are red hot and always tasty.

We have bought fish and chips from this place for 10 years they have been fantasic every time, generous helpings, golden crispy batter and excellent service, easily the best chippy for miles.No gimics, no silly dishes, simple and honest fish and chips, cooked to perfection, be warned youay have to cue up but that's because the place is so popular.

Been here a couple of times, as I fancied fish and chips. I found the battered sausages overcooked. The chips are really nice. The fish depending on when you go in can be amazing or rubbery all depending on how freshly cooked it is. The smacks (scallops) are also dependent on how long they have been out, as they can be soggy and greasy or really nice. The baps are always seam fresh. They don't except cards, so cash only.

This fish and chip shop always delivers top quality food and serves larger portions than most fish and chip shops.The opening times are longer than most as well so you can call most days at a time to suit you.

A bold statement, you might think. And you are right. But I have eaten a lot of fish and chips (my waistband does not thank me) around the country and these are, to my mind, the best. I've been visiting PJ's for at least 5 years now (despite now living over 250 miles away) and they are consistently fantastic. The best in Wakefield, and you can see why people come from miles around to get their Fish and Chips from here.My boyfriend, a true born and raised southerner, had never visited Yorkshire and, sadly for him, had never had (to my mind) proper fish and chips. I took him to PJs and he said hands down they were the best he had ever tasted - especially the fish!There's not much more I can say, other than get your fish and chips from here!

Don't have fish & chips often, if we are PJs is our first choice. You are always greeted with a smile & receive great service. The food quality is excellent & a good variety to choose from. I read a previous report regarding the opening times which I found odd as they are clearly shown on the door & they do open a lot longer than other local fish & chip shops.

I like this place it's just got some strange opening times. A few times ive been through the day and it's been closed ye, then man has to drive round looking for the next place which is never as good! Plus time is money so I wasn't a happy G!! Safe food though
