Oxon Priory - Pub & Grill in Shropshire

Food was great, (although the fries had been spread across the plate to try and cover it, if you're using big plates please put enough food on them or use a smaller plate.) Service was great, with a very friendly and helpful waiting in team. They were the embodiment of hospitality. Great job. 🙂

I went here with my family of 4 last week my son has autism and was greatly looked after by the member of staff in particular Isaac who also delivered great service to my family. Would definitely recommend

We have been coming here for years my kids love it. Having 3 autistic children can be very challenging in these environments. But the staff here have always gone above and beyond for us. My son is non verbal and highly on the spectrum. He wasn't happy at all over the weekend, so much so my partner had to take him outside. The staff and manager went above and beyond for us, even taking my partners meal into the back to keep it warm. I then asked if we could take it outside so we could be together and my partner could eat her food, they got her food and my kids ice cream and set us up outside. The manager then told us if we ever needed assistance in future to call before and they would cater to our children's needs. I was absolutely blown away by their attitude towards us and our children. Thank you and see you again soon. Highly recommend 👍🙂

I absolutely love the Oxon Priory - it’s our favourite place to eat out. The staff are always lovely and super friendly, the food is amazing and the general feeling of the pub is wonderful. Absolutely recommend going there to everyone!

Enjoyed the Steak and Ruddles Ale Pie, I ordered extra gravy twice. Credit to Danielle-Louise for looking after me. Recommended pub with ample seating and parking. I've uploaded photos of the latest menu.

Lovely bit of tucker prior to our theatre trip. Lucky for us it was quiet so served quickly.

Spent two evenings here during the past week. Staff were amazing and the food was delicious on both occasions. I thoroughly recommend this pub. Even the dog was catered for too.

Just had Sunday lunch - the veg three pieces of sliced over cooked and I mean over cooked carrots one piece of broccoli - food not hot had to send back - very disappointing if not with family would have sent all meals back. Would not recommend

Had a lovely Mother’s Day meal and staff very pleasant and in good spirits from arrival. Dawn was very pleasant and very interactive with the family thank you.

The lager was off was eventually changed to a different brand And my meal had no chips when mentioned to the waitress she didn’t know if it came with chips when she finally came back I had finished and was asked do you still want your chips

You get what you pay for regards to food, However Harvey! They deserve 5stars for their absolute amazing hospitality, Always. As another local business, Harvey is a credit to the team.

Really not great, the basics seemed missing, nice location but service just felt “odd”, could be so much better with friendly welcoming staff.

Book a table online, got the the pub and was treated 5* from start to finish, meals were perfect service was great, will we be making a return visit, damn right. Thanks to our waiter (pink/Purpe hair, he was a lovely person and was very polite and helpful. Keep the good work up team.

The place looks good plenty of room inside but table are to close together as usual need to get as many in as possible. The staff were very good . Food came out quick and hot. My wife had stake and hers was ok. I had 14oz Rump but it was terrible I could only eat half as the rest was just gristle. But the girl serving us reduced the bill at the end which made up for it a little bit . Overall a nice place. Only thing that let it down for me was my stake . Also very few gluten free options I could have had any burger meal but with no bun? Whats the point In that .

Had fish chips and mushy peas, nicely presented and generous portion followed by sticky toffee pudding. Good service and pleasant staff

We visited as a group of 13 for a family birthday. We pre booked and pre ordered our meals. The welcome from Dawn was very friendly and warm and she was a lovely host for the evening. Her attention to detail was spot on and she was attentive without being overbearing. The food came out piping hot and all together which is no mean feat with such a large group. All the meals were lovely with no complaints from anyone (including some quite fussy eaters!). Lots of empty plates later we left very happy.

Really lovely food and very accommodating with how the food was served due to having a broken wrist. Went at lunch time, we were seated straight away and the food was served quickly.

We booked a wake here and this can be a very difficult choice for a grieving family. However, we needn't have worried Dawn and her fantastic team made us all feel welcome and supported. The food was incredible and plenty of it, it had many of the guests commenting. Couldn't have chosen anywhere better. Thank you all.

This has recently had new management according to the staff and compared to the last time i'd been, they'ved stepped up their game. Everything we had was cooked perfectly and the quality (especially the in house 'home-made' food) was amazing. Staff were also friendly. Highly recommend

Food was bland and so so, took a while to arrive 45 min and was a little cold. The venue is nice and was less than af full whilst there

Fantastic experience. Proper pub grub, presented amazingly. Staff couldn't help enough with the kids and were around frequently if we needed anything. The win-every-time claw machine is a bonus (bring £1) as the kids loved it! Loads of parking and seating.

Lovely restaurant and Christmas decorations very friendly waiters and good service. I think the young waiters name is Brody, he's very friendly and helpful

Had our Morris Minor Shropshire branch Christmas 🎄 party tonight DAWN and her staff were excellent and made us very welcome 👌 Food was 100% Better than 2023 21 very happy and well satisfied people we had a most wonderful evening happy to give it 5 🌟

We visited the restaurant on the 30 November 2024 and my husband and myself thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Dawn was excellent and made us so welcome. Carry on the good work Dawn. We hope to return and maybe with our motorhome again 😉.

Its a GK place so you know what you're getting but its nice and well done. Our 2nd or 3rd visit.

Good food. Great service. Heating set too high as only downfall

A great place to meet up with friends. We were able to sit and chat before, during and after our meal. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Plenty of choice on the menu.

Awful - went in tonight and no atmosphere and place seemed grubby even though staff didn’t have much to do - asked for a liqueur coffee as cold outside - man didn’t have a clue and said his colleague would help as not his area! I chose Kailua as no Tia Maria and could not find Bailey’s! I was then asked what coffee I would like, cappuccino etc which was odd! I then got a normal coffee cup with Kailua and coffee in and a jug of hot milk! I can’t believe in a large place like that they didn’t have a clue! I used to work out in the sticks and we were all taught how to make a liqueur coffee - won’t rush back! I went home and made my own - picture on right!! By the way we would have eaten but decided to go and we weren’t confident in what we might get!

Lovely meal for a varied age range of family members. Everyone found something they really enjoyed. Adapted the meal easily for autism needs. Was really a lovely meal.

Just had Sunday lunch, was absolutely gorgeous. Dawn was fantastic, very friendly and accommodating. Food was lovely, turkey roast and beef. Plenty of meat. Very tasty. Had a few extras, cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets. Asked for extra gravy. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff were friendly. Definitely be returning next time we're here. Went for Sunday dinner , was a lovely meal and real great service especially the manager Dawn . We had a gluten allergy on our table and she was great with the order and helped a lot , really made sure we had everything we needed.

On arrival it seemed only busy in one area of the establishment. Sadly I found the service to be a bit hit and miss. At one point myself and two other customers were stood waiting at the bar and it wasn’t very busy. Food I can only say was average and portion sizes seemed small with certain dishes. The kitchen staff seemed more interested having a good time laughing and joking in the back area’s of the establishment. Overall a poor experience, unlikely to return to The Oxon Priory for me and sadly cannot recommend.

Could have done with a bit more vegetables on your Sunday lunch music could have been a little bit quieter.

Lovely pub, great staff. Been my local since the early 90s, but hadn't been in for quite some time. It's changed a lot...and I like what they've done with the place. Well worth a visit. Update: Just a shout out to a certain member of staff, don't know her name...but she's great. Popped in after a few weeks and she remembers what I drink, and what we talked about last time...hill walking and my camera. Always service with a smile.

Me and my partner came here on a quiet afternoon where it took us 20 minutes to have our drinks order taken. The place was empty. Then they brought our food out which my partners order was wrong, so had to eat separately while my partner waited 15 minutes for her correct order to come back out. Asked for deserts menu, got given the menus to then wait another 20 minutes and still no order taken so gave up and left. Shocking, save your money.

Never been before. Few things we wanted wasn't available, but staff were great. Good value.

The food is awful and not worth the money. You can tell the cook(can't possibly be a trained chef) puts no love into the food. Chicken sharing platter was very watery, not seasoned, no butter for the corn on the cob. Steak baguette , again tasteless but I did ask for no cheese, so got six chunks of steak on a dried roll. The portion of chips weren't too bad but served without the rosemary seasoning that was asked for. Only positive is the staff were nice and feel that they are trying to make up for the money you've spent on the food!

Stopped off for Sunday lunch today. On arrival the car park was nearly empty which should have set alarm bells ringing but we carried on in and were shown to a table by a nice young man. There wasn't many tables taken and the place was very cold! Our order was swiftly taken, we both ordered the turkey roast dinner and in less than 10 minutes our food arrived. To say we were disappointed is an understatement! It was totally inedible, and cold....you couldn't get a knife through the potatoes and the gravy was just a gloopy mass! We got the impression that plates are loaded with cooked vegetables prior to lunch and then the choice of meat added and the plate then put in a microwave! We paid for the drinks, which we hadn't drunk, and left. We won't be going back.

Decided to come here last minute for a late roast dinner. The young man serving us, Samuel, was very attentive, polite and knowledgeable👌 Very good food, considering the roast was still going at 5 pm. We ordered a Guinness Zero and Samuel told us about an excellent tap ale. Both were delicious with our meal. We brought our dog who also enjoyed the pork 😀

I was really pleased with my choice of food. The evening did go well but after the staff had been busy all day they were tired! We had to ask twice for our coffee to be served

Looks a lovely place, menu reads great, ordered the signature burger my wife had scampy and my son had the mixed grill but we were very disappointed, portions were like childs meals seriously had a better burger meal at maccy's won't be going back .

We have visited twice, and the food and the service were excellent. Very dog friendly. We will return!

This was a very disappointing visit. We stopped for a quick drink on the way home. The bar staff was very friendly, but that's where it ended. Two of the three real ales were off, and the third ran out during pouring. Also apparently they no longer sell crisps and nuts! Imagine a pub nowadays in England not selling crisps!!!! One of us ordered a pint of Carling which cost £5.00!!!!!! Carling at £5 in Shrewsbury? That's nearly London prices! A very disappointing visit, and we will not be back soon. This place has gone downhill very fast. Thanks for your reply Tom. I take in what you say, but your staff member very clearly said: We don't sell crisps any more.". When I asked why, she just said "We've stopped selling them.". That's very different to "We've run out!".

Decent pub grub, clean space, friendly welcoming staff.

So we have eaten here a few times and generally speaking it's been ok and then we turned up tonight and got to say it was the most disappointing evening of food and service we have ever had at this place I'm sad to say. The manager was abysmal,she didn't do anything and didn't talk to us and the only time she was behind the bar was to get herself a drink then sat back down and was on Snapchat for most of the time. When we asked her if she was the duty manager she said she wasn't working the evening even tho she was telling other staff what to do and getting herself drinks from the bar which means she just didn't want to deal with the complaints of us due to the bad service and bad food.When the food came out the burger my Mrs had was under cooked,the gravy our lad had was absolutely disgusting and the onion rings I had were laughable and had about 10 chips which considering it was nearly £20 for this meal was very disappointing.Other people from our party had bad food but I know they putting in complaints and reviews themselves so will leave that to them. When waited for ages to get served for drinks at the bar even tho 2 staff were sat by the bar and basically ignored us one of them being the manager that apparently wasn't working but still telling others what to do. When we 1st turned up at 6.30pm (time we booked for) no tables had been sorted for us or sorted out and the pre order they had asked for couldn't be given as no one answered the phone for the entire day so all the food was rushed out and it was blatantly obvious. We got 4 meals to the table and the other 9 of us waited 45mins for our food by which time the other 4 had finished unsurprisingly. Apart from 2 of the staff who were running around doing everything (by order of the manager who wasn't working) no one else did bugger all. Having worked in hospitality my entire working life as a chef I would be disgusted if I worked somewhere with this disregard and attitude to customer service and treatment of us and for the money we paid for this can say after years of using this venue I really do doubt I will use them again. So very sad to see how these people treat the very people paying their wages. Green King you need to look at this place and their management very closely as it was and complete disgrace!!!

Couldn't fault anything: lovely food (we each had a burger), friendly and efficient staff and really pleasant atmosphere. Customers were greeted with a smile and the food arrived promptly. Empty tables were cleared and re-set quickly so it always looked presentable. Would recommend it without hesitation.

We came here over the weekend, had a good time, staff were really attentive and the food was pretty decent, we all enjoyed our meals. We will be back!

Nice Sunday morning breakfast quite on the morning lovely lady dawn looked after us .All food was fresh and value for money .

First of all let’s start with the positives. The lady who greeted us was really friendly and welcoming. As my sister has mobility issues, the hostess ensured that we had a table that suited my sisters needs. Menus were produced swiftly, as was the taking of our drinks order. The menu is typical of this kind of pub… lots of chips burgers fish and chips. We ordered our food which came within 1/2 hour… that’s fine. As a party of 4 , two of us enjoyed our food, two were underwhelmed . We waited then for 20mins to have our plates cleared away so that we could order dessert ( other diners may not be so patient… missed opportunity, desserts pay the wages). The young man behind the bar seemed more interested in drinking his tea. In the end we had to go to the bar and ask for the desert menu . My brother then had to go back up to the bar to order the deserts because the young man was still focusing on his tea, plates still hadn’t been cleared away. 3 of our party had the sticky toffee pudding with bourbon sauce, which they all said was fab. I ordered apple crumble with cream. Came with custard which I sent back, only to be told some 3 mins later, no cream. The crumble was one of the worst I’ve ever had. I am almost sure that the apple was apple used for apple sauce that goes out with a pork dinner, and the crumble was just oats ( under cooked) not good. To be fair the lady that greeted us in our arrival struck it from the bill, I was grateful for that. So to conclude. Remember young man, customers are more important than your cup of tea. Deserts had mixed reviews, mine was the only disappointing desert. Super friendly hostess which for me was the Oxons saving grace.

Having not been for awhile, it was a pleasure to go. Dawn and staff were extremely helpful. The meal and drinks were excellent . Altogether can thoroughly recommend going there.

Food was nice, service was good, we arrived in the afternoon so it wasn't going to be busy. The food came quickly and was nicer than I expected.

The place as a whole is fine with welcoming staff, but the establishment is generally quiet due, I think, to the extortionate prices. Two pints costing £12.48 is not a place you would visit very often.

Absolutely shocking experience, food was disgusting, service was terrible. we won't be back.

Called in yesterday (May 27th 2024) for a meal on our way home. First thing that we noticed was how quiet the car park was on a Bank Holiday for around 5pm. When we were greeted we were give a list of items not available on the menu and shown to our table. Drinks first then we ordered our food once we had time to decide. All going OK as what they hadn't got would not have affected us greatly. Time passed by and conversation turned to " we have been waiting a long time for our meals". I went to ask as we had been waiting for around one and a half hours. There were only three tables occupied. The waitress checked, apologised and said one chef down today. She offered us a free round of drinks. The mains were piping hot, tasted good. Had deserts as we were guaranteed they would not take as long as main meals. The deserts were nice but not worth the price of over £7. Long and short, won't be going back.

Staff friendly enough, cleanliness very poor and when you pay £13+ for two flat Peroni pints you expect them to be half decent. Staff kindly swapped for 2 Carling pints but was enough to put us off even getting food.

It is such a shame that this place could be made so much better, the kids love the play area. There were only 2 staff on and the young lad was working alot harder than the other member on. Drinks very expensive tables needed cleaning. With abit of TLC this place would attract alot more people

Very poor meal 😞 Had cod ,chips mushy peas.No way worth £14 ! Cod was overcooked batter ,more batter than fish.Handful of chips,more juice than peas !I queried whether it was the cheaper version .Waitress said she didn't know ,didn't appear bothered!Chose cheesecake for desert ,not defrosted yet! Won't be returning!

Great Pub with brilliant disability support and access and a genuinely lovely staff who have excellent manners and really helpful even when they are non stop serving people, the food was great, (i recommend that you try the steak sandwich with melted cheese, steak served on a sour dough baguette) and fries and a gravy dipping sauce!!! HappyDays and children allowed and dogs welcome too! Plus a pool tabel and kiddies playground outside. The Oxen is a rare gem of a pub which is becoming a harder to find nowdays!!! 10 out of 10 which is a score i dont give lightly. Enough said...... Go treat yourself and the family, you wont be disappointed!

Tom!! The greatest manager I’ve ever witnessed in a hospitality establishment. There was nothing that was too much trouble for him. He went the extra mile to make sure mine and my husbands dining experience was brilliant. I will be back. Thankyou so much Tom you made our day!!

Very slow delivery of food, limited range of beers.

Eaten here many times , tonight’s meal was very disappointing, pie came with no gravy so they got some which was lumpy & cold 🙈 The kids burgers were over cooked and their beans were burnt , it’s usually quite busy but not tonight Time for a change

Friendly service, food served in an adequate time. 5 meals ordered, kids meals a substantial size, adult meals also adequate and very pleasant. Have been before and been disappointed but this has changed our minds.

Fish was nice but a little small. Chiabatta was awful. Hot branston pickle and Philadelphia cheese. Staff was nice and helpful.

Came by a few days ago with my family and had a good experience at this restaurant. Great staff, good food, and a decent atmosphere.
