Brilliant, old fashion, restaurant/cafe great food, excellent service. A hidden gem on the 1st floor in the centre of town. Well spaced out tables.

We were in the town area for a few days to help friends get a business ready for the summer season. Finding this cafe was hands down the best part of our stay. Minehead has lots of eating and coffee places but this is a hidden gem, up a flight of stairs to a really huge space. Bright, with lots of window tables, can accommodate everything from a single visitor to a large group. If you stand outside WH Smith and look diagonally opposite over the crossroads it is the windows above the Exmoor Country Interiors shop. Doorway is under the clock on the wall of the building. Super friendly lady running it, and someone who can actually cook is in the kitchen, all homecooked food. Amazing value breakfasts and lunches. Proper onion gravy with actual fried onions in it! Very dog friendly and all under good control at their owners tables. Best cafe we found in Minehead. The photo I have added of the fish and chips was the SMALL plate at under £6. Lots of breakfast sizes available, the standard full english was incredible value at about £7.40 from memory. Never got time for one of their cheese scones but they looked amazing, huge, and only £2.50 with butter. Well managed, tables cleared and sanitarily wiped immediately after being vacated. All cafes should be like this. If we lived nearer we'd be in all week.

Definitely 5 stars. Very popular cafe. Been a few times now. 1st time for lunch, I had tuna jacket potato, beautifully presented, husband had beef chilli pancakes, he was very impressed. Called in again today for breakfast, again, beautifully presented, cooked great. I have read some negative reviews on here, but this has not been my experience. I would recommend you try it if in the area. We will be visiting again.

All great plates full great service and setting the chief and wife team works so well,nothing was to much trouble

loved the setting but sadly the food really wasnt good. we were told quite a few of the things on the menu weren't available e. g. the saute potatoes with the breakfast. i had a breakfast - rubbery egg, bacon and sausages that had been reheated and resembled shoe leather, dried up crusty baked beans. my husband ordered a special - sausage roll and chips. expected a nice deli style homemade sausage roll. got a cheap sausage roll with pink meat inside. very greasy. both of us had upset tummies within an hour of leaving.

Amazing place hidden upstairs amazing breakfast and caramel latte. staff extremely welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend a visit lunch menu looks very attractive also.

Lovely cup of tea with option of Soya milk for me. Hubby had Tuna sandwich accompanied by crisps and side salad which looked delicious. I had toasted tea cake. Huge amount of space and tables well separated. Sanitiser available.

This little cafe is a lovely place to visit. It is perfectly out the way which means it isn’t over loaded with Butlins people. The food is lovely and has a great selection.

This is a must visit in Minehead. Family run and very friendly they are too! Lovely tea, coffee, cake and much more to try. Try it out and you won't be disappointed.

Discovered this lovely cafe last week whilst on holiday. Just had coffee on 3 occasions but will definitely eat there when we are down again in September. Huge, spacious room upstairs which is quirkily but tastefully decorated. Service with a smile which is important to us.Definitely worth a visit.

Was directed here from another cafe that didn’t serve breakfast and so glad they did. Full cooked breakfast was delightful in a charming setting - will be back

Great food! Good portions. Good value and very nice atmosphere. Some nice, varied food choices too. I definitely recommend the cottage pie !!!

We live locally and after 3 years decided to pop in here today. I just kept forgetting about it to be honest but today we remembered so off up the stairs we went to the cafe. (Its above retail shops) Lovely and spacious upstairs. Window seats aswell and the food was fresh and tasty. pandemic proceedures in place and adhered too. It was so relaxing to be honest and we shall visit again.

Found this little gem by accident and really glad I did, you have to walk upstairs to the cafe, kinda felt like walking into the tardis, looked small from the outside but huge on the inside with plenty of places to sit and was greeted by the friendliest staff. Ordered our meals with a pot of tea for two. The pot of tea gave my partner and me four cups each and the food was delicious, best mash and onion gravy ever. We both stayed for dessert too which also didn't disappoint. Excellent value for money, delicious homemade food and friendly staff, what more could you ask for? I'm all for supporting independent businesses and this is one I will definitely visit again on a return trip to Minehead.

Lovely place to eat with a beautiful outlook, perfect for relaxing with a good plateful of delicious food whilst watching the world go by. The staff seem friendly and helpful too. Great for both vegans and vegetarians and will suit your purse strings!

Nice atmosphere. The cafe is upstairs & didn’t expect it to be that big of an area. Nice selection on menu & reasonably priced. Jacket potato’s are tasty & toasted sandwiches. Scampi & chips were good as well. Properly cooked chips, crunchy on the outside & not soggy.

Lovely friendly cafe/restaurant in Minehead. Attentive smiley staff and good menu to chose from. Lovely sitting by the window in the sunshine watching the world go by. I eat there regularly once a week and always something different on the menu.Good breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea - something for everyone.Specials on show by the door, in the cafe and on Facebook.

We have been visiting this restaurant for years and saw it declining . Visited today , first time under new owners. What a difference ! The old ambience is back , and better . Tastefully spruced up but retaining the best of a characterful building. The staff are friendly and attentive and the coffee and tea very good . Wide range of reasonably priced cakes , the scones and flapjacks were delicious. Cooked meals looked very nice , we will try these next time. What a shame the earlier bad reviews - before present owners took over - can't be deleted !!.

The last time I visited a couple of years or so ago this venue was called The Owls and I liked it there. Now it seems to have been rebranded and it is even better. We just dropped in for coffee but it was obvious that snacks and meals were being served as well. Hopefully we shall have the opportunity to visit again when we are next in town.

This place is certainly not closed, we went there for cooked breakfast today and it was superb I can certainly recommend

This is a café with character, It is situated on the first floor above some shops in the town centre. There are window seats over looking the street. Excellent food, great coffee and friendly service. One down side, being upstairs it is not suitable for the disabled.

Tenía el pescado especial y patatas fritas. Si que era especial, entonces odio pensar en lo que el resto de las comidas. Mi pescado congelado era probablemente de los islandia tienda de enfrente. También se estaba ejecutando en aceite y húmedo interior (no preparado). correctamente guarnición ensalada token.. La exposición al aire girando blanco. La camarera era muy agradable. Nos estaban esperando un rato, luego nos dimos cuenta de la mesa de enfrente había 3 comidas trajo. Las otras dos comidas vino cuando los otros 3 estaban casi terminados. Dijo el chef había dejado y el jefe estaba cocinando. El jefe es, quien sin duda sabe cómo matar a su propio negocio. Habiendo trabajado en el mundo de catering. Si su barco saltos chef, y necesitas estar abierto, quedarse con lo básico. Nunca volvería. No me reembolsan. Porque me quejé.

He leído algunos comentarios negativos de este lugar, así como a los comentarios que necesitaba algo bueno. Yo fui como parte de un grupo de 29! No reserve - sólo era una pasada! Se las arreglaron bastante bien muy bien y emitido el 29 comidas de calidad en un plazo razonable.

El café que teníamos era buena, la variedad de pasteles y galletas era bueno y una gama de precios. Fue agradable y cálido en un día de lluvia fría y entre las duchas el sol hilo en las ventanas.

Las camareras en búhos estaban bien y hacían todo lo posible. Pedí dos huevos revueltos en tostada y uno de ellos salió frito! Les dije que pedimos huevos revueltos así que la camarera lo llevó a la cocina tras disculparse. Cuando el "" de huevos revueltos en tostada volvimos, parecía que el huevo frito había sido rellenos en pequeñas piezas! sentimos mucho por la camarera tener que trae de vuelta a la mesa!

lasaña ordenados para mí y mi marido tenía bacalao, patatas y guisantes. La lasaña estaba fría en algunos lugares, la cata blandest que he tenido jamás. Yo casi todo. Mi esposo pescado no era fresco, es directamente de un paquete, procesadas basura. Guisantes eran un extraño color, parecía que estaban merodeando por demasiado tiempo en un calentador. estado antes, no era muy buena, pero al menos era comestible. Nuestro lugar habitual por desgracia estaba cerrado. Deprimente para pasar más de £20 cuando podría haber salto a Islandia y cogió una comida preparada y Pit de bacalao. Cafés estaban bien y eso es lo único positivo que me temo. No te molestes otra vez y ciertamente no lo recomendaría.

The only thing going for this place is the views over The Avenue and the space. However, the decor is dated, the service horrendous and the food is sub standard. One particular young waitress was exceptionally rude and really ruined, our already disappointing, meal. Avoid.

Estar en forma para entrar, tramo de escaleras para entrar en este restaurante, así que no es bueno para personas discapacitadas. El uso no estoy seguro si lo que pasó a ser un lugar muy agradable para ir, pero el café ha deteriorado también tiene la comida. Yo ya no visitar debido a que su movilidad reducida pero ninguna pérdida ya que la comida fuimos al sur. Quizás es recogido en el año pasado.

I enjoyed the home cooked macaroni cheese and my hubby had ham, egg and chips which he also enjoyed.

Sad that this restaurant has lost it"s standard of service. Bad to think they can serve customers Roast dinners that come to the table cold, with tepid gravey. Might have helped if the plates had been pre- warmed. They do " specials " for "OAP"s , but these are the people that need good hot food. The meat tough and taste-less. Surely if these people are serving dinners day in and day out, they should be able to detect if a meal is cold before it gets to the table. I used to love this place, it was a lovely cheap and tasty place to go have lunch with family but lately it has gotten very pricey and the food has lost its taste but the drinks are just right (price and taste) so that's something.

Stopped here twice while away on holiday. Excellent service. Friendly staff and delicious food at a good price. It's like stepping back in time a proper little tea shop. Will def come back x

This 'hidden' location is a bit like the Tardis, once inside it opens out above the shops below. It reminded me of my childhood trips to the coast back in the 70's. Simple, basic and relatively cheap. A special menu for OAPs that included Liver says it all. No frills here just simple friendly service that is more than sufficient and the menu should have something to satisfy most people. I'd definitely return but not to impress.

Just dont bother, coffee was vile had to leave it.This place used to be quite good with nice staff, now ??? What happened!!

A miserable day. Low overcast with fine drizzle. Hungry because declined to eat any food, including breakfast, from kitchen at Shearings Valley of the Rocks hotel in Lynton where we had, regrettably with hindsight, booked a holiday. Trudging up the Avenue in Minehead spot the sign for the Owls Restaurant. What a wonderful discovery. A restaurant that has plenty of room between tables and an instantly welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the all day breakfast and a cup of tea. Big cup, tasty tea. The breakfast was huge, freshly cooked and delicious and reasonably priced. Added to this was the fact the staff smiled, genuine smiles, when taking the order and serving the food. If you are in Minehead don't miss this gem.

Stopped in for a breakfast last Saturday as we hadn't been for a while. Overall such a shame as it could easily be the best in Minehead for a breakie if only a little more effort was made to get the food to the table while it was still hot. Perhaps hot plates would help as luke warm beans and tepid sausages are not exactly appetizing. As I've said its a shame because you get a really good sized breakfast for the money, the restaurant is a good size so you're not cramped in, its clean and the staff are friendly. We have been before and were equally disappointed over the food temperature so made a point of requesting an improvement when we ordered but to no avail. I have seen similar reviewers mentioning the same point so I honestly don't think we're being unfair here.

Stopped in for lunch an all day breakfast which included a cup of coffee or tea, choice of fried bread or toast all for just £4.25 each - good value

Had the English breakfast, luke warm food, egg under cooked, tomatoe barely cooked, greasy unappetizing. Maybe the cook was having an off day as we have been in before and it has been passable but after this experience will give it a miss in future.

Best cafe in Minehead. Shame it's upstairs with no lift for disabled access, luckily we can still carry our daughter in buggy at present but always worth while doing so

Excellent location, right on The Avenue, downtown. Upstairs, and most tables are by windows with nice views outside. Good menu selection (we had lunch) - you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. My fish was well cooked, sides were tasty, nice range of desserts. They had a special value meal for OAP's (that's Seniors, to us Americans) and the portions were a good size. Seems a nice place to relax over coffee too, with a few couches, and magazines to read. Staff friendly and helpful. Just breakfast & lunch, I think they close about 4. I like that they had the menu and specials posted downstairs by the entrance. Nice atmosphere, good food - I would come back.

Good for a quick tea break or lunch...large menu selection and a very good children's menu. Seating upstairs only, loads of highchairs available.

Looked ok from the outside, they claim the "best coffee in Minehead". The reality was a cream tea with 1 scone each, distinctly average coffee, a cold roast chicken sandwich and a service speed that a glacier would be ashamed of. A shame because the place has a great location and the staff are quite nice. The bacon sandwiches aren't too bad. Not recommended.

Lovely breakfast which was served in a timely fashion , friendly service, yummy hot chocolate which is from a new range of drinks on offer now , great venue. Nice to see the fruit smoothies on the menu

This Was once a lovely place to eat. Not any more. Food is cold and obviously sourced from the local Iceland store. Measly portions and terrible service. What on earth has happened?

Great meeting place in the middle of town, views down highstreet for people-watching, and best English breakfast in town. I regularly visit with friends + family.

Slow to get served, there was nobody at the counter despite three serving staff being on duty and only three other tables occupied.Tables uncleared and not wiped.Ordered hit chocolates with marshmallows; instead of the small ones sprinkled in a wide cup of creamy chocolate they were full size marshmallows served on the side of a tall glass??The coffee I ordered didn't turn up; after waiting ten minutes I returned to the counter to ask for it (it needed only to be poured from a jug of filter coffee not barista prepared).£13 for 5 hot drinks and 3 cookies isn't too bad but the service was poor.This well located, large cafe could and should be so much better. As others have pointed out competition from the Wetherspoons and The Hairy Dog mean this place needs to up its game.

I just to be a regular here for morning coffee etc but recently it has become a frozen food place very little cooking seems to be done just reheating the veg is always the same no matter what the season sometimes it is not even hot and the potion size has shrunk so never again

I have just returned from my final visit from my once favorite cafe! This place has lost its way, I popped in the other day for a quick cup of coffee and have never been so disappointed in my life. The place felt cold and it was the first time I sat there and left my coat on. It was like sitting in a fridge, I drank my coffee quickly, which has not tasted the same for a while and quickly got ready to leave, unfortunately I made the mistake of visiting the toilets before I left, these were just as cold and looked like they needed a good clean. I have had enough of watching this once great place spiral into darkness. Bring back Gary, bring back the staff, the mop and bucket and bring back the atmosphere- also learn how to make coffee and buy better quality..

we have visited Owls on and off over the past 10 years and its presently at the lowest point ever. Weatherspoons is close by and they need to compete and right now for a very poor soup and microwaved roll at Owls you can get a good meal and drink at 'spoons. Its disappointing old staff have left (sacked?) and a very very average to poor turnout of food put on offer. We keep hoping for improvements but will not carry on trying for ever. please do better... I will be happy to update the review after the next visit - be it more of the same disappointing offerings or an improvement

I have been visiting Minehead for several years now, up until lately we had always enjoyed a meal and coffee at Owls. It must have been about 2 years since our last visit and I can only assume that the place has changed hands. The over all appearance is looking shabby, the atmosphere has been lost and it seems no where as busy as it has done previously. We ordered a coffee and it tasted like watered down toilet water- a far cry from the sign outside saying "Best coffee in town". Anyway the family was tired and we were all hungry so we decided to eat anyway. After looking at the cheaply produced menu (similar laminated item as one would expect from a roadside truckers dive) we noticed the prices were somewhat more expensive, never the less we hoped like previous visits we would enjoy our meal. This meals arrived, the portions were small, the food was tasteless and the service was not much better. When we asked to speak to the manager, we were told he was at the pub, the young girl (looked like she was not old enough to work during school hours) explained that they had several unhappy customers, but no one seemed bothered. We were told that our comments would be passed on but she was unable to offer a refund. It is such a shame to see a great place like this end up in this way, I hope for Minehead's sake that the new owners will either hire a new manager that can turn the place around or sell the place to someone that knows what they are doing. Avoid this place as there are much better places to eat in Minehead.

Warm, friendly staff, wide menu and great views over Minehead highstreet. A great place to bring the family - I'm sure we'll be back. Thoroughly recommended.

Visiting Minehead we decided to lunch at a restaurant we used frequently when living there many years ago. We ascended the stairs to the large area which looked tired and neglected. Staff were friendly and pleasing so decided that we would give it a try. Very disappointing. My macaroni cheese lacked a good tasty cheese sauce and resembled macaroni boiled in milk with a hint of cheese on top. My husband opted for fish and chips - portion of fish was small and obviously a portion of battered frozen fish served with a salad!!!! Coffee was hot but poor quality.The tables were tacky to the touch and cutlery was poor. This restaurant has fantastic potential but is woefully unispiring. Needs refurnishing and carpeting and an interior designer. Methinks it is possibly owned/managed by people without knowledge of the catering trade.
