My boots were caked in the mud of a thousand miles, my sword – usually gleaming – dull from countless skirmishes with goblins and worse. Harrold Longbottom, they called me, though lately I felt more like Harrold Long-weary. The road had been a relentless gauntlet; bandits ambushed us near Widow’s Wood, a pack of ghouls stalked us through the Whispering Marshes. Each encounter left me more battered, both physically and mentally. I craved respite, a place where the only monsters were in the ale-induced nightmares. Then, through the swirling dust kicked up by my weary mount, I saw it: The Outlook. A humble tavern, nestled between two gnarled oaks, it promised a haven from the harsh realities of the road. Smoke curled invitingly from its chimney, a beacon in the darkening twilight. The sign creaked gently in the breeze, its paint chipped but cheerful. Relief washed over me, a wave so potent it almost knocked me from my saddle. The promise of a warm fire, a hearty meal, and most importantly, a pint of something strong, spurred me onward. The Outlook lived up to its name. The ale was superb, the staff welcoming, and the air thick with the comforting sounds of laughter and conversation, devoid of the usual screams and howls that punctuated my nights. It was a simple pleasure, a moment of peace earned through sweat, blood, and the relentless pursuit of monsters. Leaning back, my mug warming my hands, I finally felt the weight of the road lift, replaced by the gentle hum of contentment. This, I thought, is what I’d been fighting for all along: not just survival, but a place like this, a moment like this.

Good atmosphere on a Wednesday night and the manager was really lovely. He gave me suggestions on cocktails and me and my mates also played uno (ask for it, it’s behind the bar).

I had such a great time! The atmosphere was so chill and welcoming, with friendly people and staff. Prices were really reasonable, and the vibe felt super relaxed and local. Definitely a place I’ll return to!

Food was much better than expected. We got the fish and chips, beef pie and two steaks (medium and medium-rare). Both were okay, but great for the price. Maybe could’ve been a tad bit warmer. Fish and chips was overall great, and so was the beef pie. Alltogether great place, dog friendly, family friendly and overall good experience.

It's my second time there, I was there last year while visiting my sister in Reading, I enjoyed the menu and also the cider. I don't drink alcohol and they have a few alcohol free choices, thanks them I knew a New Zealand cider that is delicious. Also, I like that instead of getting big plates, we could get a small version of them and taste a few of them. I absolutely recommend all of them, and we also tried the ciabatta with garlic and cheese, which was also good and also, this last time, the nachos. Everything was quite good and I'm sure I'll come back next time I visit my sister! Also, the service was perfect, the waiter was super nice and welcoming.

What a shame; formerly: Shuffl boards, two floors and live music - great pub. Now: no atmosphere and bar closed approximately 22:00 - so disappointing for what used to be a great lively venue. Nb: still has Shuffl boards and two floors.

Came again and once again unbeatable service super friendly and super tasty. I personally recommend this as a great venue for big parties and celebrations, I had my 21st here and what a blast. all my friends being able to play shuffleboard and pool all evening too was really something special. Went into the outlook on Saturday with my partner for a quick bite to eat, the atmosphere as soon as you walk in is amazing! The staff are so so friendly and chatty, service was quick and when we ordered food the food came out really quick. Definitely a recommendation!

I recently hosted a private party at Outlook, and it was an absolute banger! The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Special shoutout to Oscar and Harry, who provided top-notch service throughout the event. The food was fantastic—better than I expected for "just" pub food. It was well-prepared, well-served, and definitely hit the spot. The beer was fresh, and you can tell they take great care in maintaining the hygiene of the beer taps. The pub itself is very clean, and the atmosphere is great—perfect for a fun night out. Plus, they have plenty of games to enjoy with family and friends, including darts, a pool table, shuffleboard, and board games. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Highly recommend Outlook for anyone looking to have a good time with excellent service, food, and drinks!

Popped in for a pint of alcohol free and spoke with Zac who was able to guide me to a Lucky Saint on draught really friendly guy and very knowledgeable will be back for sure!

My wife and I nipped in here for some food but I was more after some IPA to be honest! We were served by a lovely young lady called Lucy who said her Dad was partial to IPA and recommended the Beavertown and Level Head - thanks, Lucy! It's a cosy place, with a heated area outside which kept my wife's old bones happy but she wouldn't play on the shuffle board with me!

I visited The Outlook last week when visiting Reading, and what a little gem of a place it is! I was greeted upon arrival by the lovely Harry, who was quick to ensure I was able to taste their great selection of traditional and craft beers to find a pint I loved! After a good laugh and a chat he recommended I take a seat out on their riverside terrace to enjoy the sun, and I definitely wasn't disappointed. For lunch I opted for their Cod Goujon Sandwich with a side of thick-cut chips; the bread and salad were wonderfully fresh, the fish was crispy and delicious, and those chips...proper pub chips! The portion size was excellent for the price and it made for a fantastic lunch, especially when accompanied by a couple more of those nice cold beers. All the staff I encountered couldn't do enough for their customers - their service was immaculately attentive, friendly and efficient throughout, despite it being rather busy. This pub has got all you need to be able to relax and soak up the good weather amidst the hustle and bustle of Reading. Thank you so much to Harry and the rest of his team - The Outlook will be a must-visit on my list the next time I'm in the area!

I came to the Outlook with my children last Sunday, and we had a fantastic time! The bar staff Lucy and Liberty were very friendly and provided a great service, making sure that myself and my children had the best possible time. The drinks and the food were fantastic, and it’s a nice change to see a pub that doesn’t only stock beef roasts, people get too hung up on that. A great experience and I would recommend to anyone, thanks guys!

I've visited the outlook multiple times now, I just can't get enough!!! From the second you walk in there is a lovely warm welcome from the staff and a cosy, clean environment to enjoy. Great food and snacks, we had the fish and chips but will definitely be back to try other dishes and their Christmas cocktails soon. Large variety of games behind the bar, shuffle board and darts for hire too. The Outlook is great for all ages and their beer selection is second to none. Thank you Outlook for being such an incredible space, I've found my new local!
