What a great place to grab a nice lunch, first time here but have lived in the area for years, was really pleasantly surprised. Lots of outside seating, not so much indoor. Had the savoury tea, was tasty and filling. Service was exceptional, friendly and quick. Area is lovely , if you feel up for it take the footpath to Budleigh beach.

We were looking forward to lunch after a good walk along the lovely river Otter. Having picked up our menu and chosen the table, we ordered and asked for a combination of different breads for the items we had chosen. In a short, unhelpful conversation that implied “chef wasn’t prepared to compromise because of strict portion control” and that there was no sourdough bread, we took what we were reluctantly given. It turned out that there was sourdough bread and quite clearly some compromise could have been made. The portions were on the mean side anyway. The only exception was the very good open beef sandwich; the beef was excellent and there was plenty of it. Apart from that, we won’t be going back.

We had rented an Air BNB in Somerset and found this place via TA so we thought we'd try it. Also, the main requirement was for the Cream Tea! We arrived and as per the reviews, it was busy even though the weather was not great. Most tables were taken and there was a table that needed cleaning so my wife asked if this could be done and within a matter of moments the waiters were around cleaning. We took our seats although the kids had to grab another table (there was 10 of us - 6 adults and 4 kids). The table was in a gazebo outside the main building. Not an issue as we were covered and as it was summer it wasn't cold. It did start raining at one stage and some of the patrons did have to come into the gazebo. We had to grab the menus from the building rather than being on the tables, which could quite easily be resolved. We went back to the building to order the food and drinks which was slightly pricy (as expected due to tourist location and natural local ingredients). The food arrived promptly and the waiters that brought them over were friendly and professional and seemed to be enjoying their job. Unfortunately I had to give a 3 star rating as the cream teas - the scones - were not as great as we expected. Cream and jam was lovely and teas and coffees were good but not the main scone. However, my nephew ordered a ploughman's and brother in law ordered chips and I'm told that these were amazing. Therefore depending on what is ordered could have changed the score. However, just because this is a 3 star rating, I would like to one day go again to try something different, and also as it is part of the mill complex with the shop, I think this is a lovely place to visit with wonderful staff.

Always enjoy visiting here. Today was no exception. Only 4 stars because we thought that the (mostly) young staff, although quite efficient, were perhaps, sometimes happier to socialise with each other than to look after their customers....

Despite the usual deluge of holidaymakers, we were easily able to find a parking space and a table for lunch, after ordering there was a fair wait for it to arrive. The staff were upbeat, talkative and friendly, the food looked appetising, was well presented and of good quality. The cost was fair for such an enjoyable lunch.

Took my father and wife for a light lunch and we certainly got light. My Brixham Crab came in a small brown roll, with a small handful of green leaves and a small cup of crisps for which I paid the thick end of £15. I honestly doubt the cost of the ingredients came to a pound. Very poor value for money.

We were meeting a friend who recently had a major medical issue who we had arranged to meet. He and his friend already had a table,, there was an adjacent table reserved for 13:30, we had arrived at 12:55 and thought we would join them for a tea and leave by 13:30. We were told by this completely insensitive staff member that we had to move immediately and could not possibly stay, even though we tried to tell her that we would be gone by 13:30. How can you operate such an insensitive business —we will never visit again.

My son had a day off from school so we decided to walk along the River Otter and finish at Otterton Mill for Brunch. It was a nice day so we sat in the outdoor area. After locating a nice table by the stream I went inside to place our order. It stated on the menu that breakfast was served til 11. However 2 items (including a tomato bruschetta that we were hoping to have) said they were available until 11.30am. A quick check of my watch and it was 11.33 but I thought maybe they would be able to accommodate this request as it was a quiet Friday morning. The young lady said straight away “No breakfast stops at 11.” No apology or “Really sorry but….” So I pointed to the menu and said “These 2 items say they are available til 11.30 though? It’s only an extra 3 mins past?” To which I got a very flat “No the kitchen literally stops breakfast at 11” I wanted to leave and eat elsewhere as it was just a really sucky attitude but my son was hungry so we ended up ordering the soup of the day (which at 11.30 felt a little odd) which was quite nice and the bread is lovely but the overall staff attitude somewhat soured the taste of it. Unfortunately I won’t be returning. As I said to my son it doesn’t matter how good the food is if the service is poor.

A nice place that does water mill runs twice a month which must be worth seeing. Lots of seating outside and inside and lovely food, the cream tea looked divine. We had the the triple salad which is basically everything salad with lovely bread, but no ham or cheese. The welsh rarebit was cooked well with a small bit of salad. No puddings but a great selection of cakes like flapjacks, date slices and lemon drizzle etc, also a good selection of coffee and tea. If you are pre 11am they do a lovely sounding breakfast too. Consult the menu.

The Bakery is excellent and the tea and cakes are lovely, parking is always easy and it’s dog friendly too. Very pleasant lunch at Otterton mill with my folks, I really relished the warmed through gluten free bread roll served with the really generous Ploughmans platter, there was a healthy amount of salad and vegetables, celery, apple and beetroot, coleslaw and new potato, unusual and really welcome to get the required amount of plants when eating out in the touristy bits of beautiful Britain. We arrived here early lunchtime, found a seat in the outside courtyard and managed to catch a member of staff to place our order straight away. Our cream tea arrived promptly too, but I think we were lucky as we saw another table struggling first to get a menu and secondly to find someone to place an order. The site has various different seating areas and staff were not often present in our area. However our scones were very fresh and enormous - we ended up splitting them into 3 layers and putting cream and jam on each layer (and hubby asked for butter as he doesn't like jam and they were happy to provide). A lovely tranquil spot next to the stream. This was midway in our walk along up the River Otter from Budleigh Salterton, after which we headed out to the coastal path and then back along the cliffs to the town, so it set us up well for the longer walk back!

We were visiting Exmouth for a few days so could resist a trip to Oterton Mill. We had prebooked a table and when shown we were surprised to be outside in a Marquee unfortunately it was on the day of storm Barbera with 70mph wind and awful rain. It would have been nice to have been notified when booking on the phone that we would be sat outside that way we could have made sure we were definitely dressed to be sat outside in as being sat Marquee with the sides fully open and sat in a draft wasn’t the most pleasant experience. Luckily we did have coats but an extra layer would definitely have been worn should be have known! Possibly a electric heater in their would help massively. The food was delicious and couldn’t fault it at all. By far the best Cream Tea in Exmouth the scones are incredible. Would just advise the abrupt demand to pay instantly is possibly changed and a sign was put up somewhere advising payment would be taken straight after ordering. Several people around us were also surprised at the none friendly approach following request of payment. Totally understand it’s a difficult time and a very easy place to walk out without paying but possibly a slight change in approach would be better!

This was my 2nd visit to Otterton mill, first time was pre-covid therefore automatically made it a better experience... 2nd time was last week, myself and 5 others went and sat in the marquee, the sign in the entrance said to take a seat and wait to be served, so we did.... we waited for what seemed quite a while, 2 or 3 members of staff walked past and did not acknowledge us at all, we finally got served by a friendly female staff member who took our drinks order. When the drinks came one of them missing - no problem! ...Only what felt like 2 minutes after we received our drinks, a staff member wearing a visor matches over demanding we pay for our drinks...we barely had a sip of our drink and one of us hadn’t even received their drink yet - we pointed this out but the visor wearing Sargent major insisted we paid right now! The missing drink took over 10mins to arrive (a pot of tea) in fact it took the friendly staff member to notice we were a drink missing and having to go back inside to find out what’s happened to it. Another thing staff with visor insisted on was that our contact details were given even though one of us had already used the “track and trace” rubbish before we came in...what’s the point of using both!? So yeah all in all the service was below average and only saved by the refreshing apple juice I enjoyed and the friendly staff member. Please, can you just wait for customers to finish their drinks before you demand we cough up? How often do people wander off without paying!? Think it was clear between the 6 of us that we didn’t rate the customer service.

We had a great lunch here sitting outside in the courtyard. The staff were attentive and friendly and it was lovely to hear the water rushing under the mill. We both had ploughmans lunches and the quality of all the produce was excellent. It was served with three delicious salads and two chutneys, all homemade and with excellent granary bread and fresh butter. A ploughmans lunch is quite a simple dish so I really appreciated the salads and the high quality of the produce. We enjoyed looking around inside the mill and in the farm shop, the attention to detail is evident and we would love to come back here. We had walked from Budleigh Salterton and carried onto Otterton on a loop that took us over the fields and along the SWCP with views of Ladram Bay and all along the stunning coast, I highly recommend doing similar. A really special day.

Seated outside service only (fair enough). Many people had toasted tea cake e.g. delivered well before their drink arrived. We waited and waited over 30 mins for only a drink order to be taken. The staff need help in being organised properly and not thinking they are being effective. They really are not functioning in an infection control manner that will protect them selves or customers.Walking all the way back to the inside for a sweetener eg is tiring for them and simply daft.More going in and out than a cuckoo in a clock Mrs Visor, I’m in charge, is going in and out getting receipts etc. Btw studies indicate a visor alone is pretty in effective without a mask. So as much as it may ‘look’ the part it’s not the best way to protect herself.Young lad ..... delivering food (not drinks) ...when asked if we could order for the 2nd time said he would get xyz the. When we said something ....... it’s not my fault, chucked a sweetener at the table. Two other young lasses will lose shoe leather and kilos just from useless walking in and out, around tables to tables etc etc with lack of order taking. We didn’t witness any table cleaning when people left. We did witness people leaving without ordering coz they clearly were not happy. As two retired nurses we developed a plan of action that included Mrs Visor ‘I’m in charge’ and boy will she let you know it.She (Mrs Visor) could stand at entrance of both coffee areas. The areas roped off with Mrs V Incharge of customer flow. She takes the details she needs, let’s people in once they are masked and hand sanitised. Btw good move having loo doors pinned open and sanitiser before you go in Mrs Visor Allocates a table.PLEASE give them a radio microphone. Waitress knows people on eg table 20, takes order. Radio order to the kitchen. Kitchen either radios or alerts waitress order is ready. Leaves order by doorway of inside coffee shop. Young lad cleans and clears tables.please ...... nothing else. Leaves dirty stuff in separate ‘dirty area’.Everyone leaves by another entrance eg road side exit. For those on car park sitting area perhaps exit near where the bins are??Thus operating a one way system for customers. No one wanders in and out of the inside area shedding virus which they don’t know they’ve picked up.Inside staff ONLY WORK INSIDE. You may need more people but with a working system and Mrs Visor controlling flow in (rope release) you would have more control.Payment could be at order by waitress or at exit at specific site (? Under the stairs)Heaven help anyone who orders lunch in the current system - you’ll still be waiting !!Shame ..... such a shame .... as we used to enjoy a coffee stop there but won’t be going back.

We were staying at Ladrum Bay for the week and everytime we drove past the Otterton Mill it was busy, looked reviews and we decided to go for breakfast on our way home. We were a bit disappointed, probably mostly due to the high prices. £5.85 for a bacon sandwich. Which really wasn't anything special and my son didn't even like the bacon so just ate the bread, found the bacon a bit rubbery. The cream tea was good, and my hubby enjoyed the scrambled egg (but could have been served on two slices of bread not just one). Overall felt a bit ripped off and disappointed.

Food was tasty as always. Definitely worth the money. Service was great and staff are friendly and helpful. Some people write nasty reviews about this place, instead they should lower their expectations. It's a locally sourced seasonal Caffe. Every time we visit food never disappoints.

We eat at this restaurant on a regular basis. The food is consistent and is good. In particular their Hake and chips...The respect for the guidelines regarding Covid-19 is also good. A one way system is in place. The staff are wearing masks. Tables are properly distanced.

Always a busy place, none more so than on a hot summer’s day. Queues for the car park made bearable by the fast turnover of visitors. A point to note - the car park is only for visitors to the Mill, not for those who want to walk the riverside. Parked up and as we hadn’t booked eventually found table space in the room above the serving counter. Ordered a variety of sandwiches, cheese and ham ploughman’s and savoury scones and jam. Wait time very reasonable, portion sizes huge especially the “doorstep” sandwiches which the kids found a bit intimidating! Overall impression very good, serving team pleasant as was the food. Virus protection measures in place and working.Would recommend.

After spending ages trying to park (eventually on the road) we found a lack of sets, and the waiting time too long. Whilst trying to leave because it was so busy, (and there was no COVID 19 one way system in place for the courtyard), people were extremely close.

visited today stayng at ladram bay for a few days. The service was very slow and for some reason he satff have special Covid protecton since they dont need to wear masks. The service was very slow, coffee was warm (not hot), adn food ok, nothing to write home about..! What worried us is the fact that the kitchen staff had no masks yet preparing food? no track and trace, but just spent the last 20 mins fiing in a complaint to gov uk - as a compnay whom is not complying with track and trace. did not feel safe and notimpressed.

We're staying nearby and were recommended this place by our friends. It was a great choice. Yesterday we came for lunch - all fabulous local food and amazing artisan bread baked on the site. The ploughmans is spectacular and a feast for the eyes (see photograph, but frankly everything looks and tastes superb. So today we went back for breakfast! Equally excellent. The scrambled eggs were some of the tastiest I have ever tried, again served with gorgeous bread. The covid-19 restrictions have been applied sensibly, and the table service is friendly and fast. Definitely worth a visit.Handy tip - the walk along the river Otter from Budleigh Salterton to the Mill is a lovely way to build up an appetite!

We’ve visited Otterton Mill a number of times, making it part of our holiday whenever we visit Ladram Bay. The staff are always friendly and helpful; and service is always with a smile! This year’s experience was slightly different due to COVID-19 but Otterton have done a great job in making sure their facilities are Covid secure.Cream teas were as delicious as ever and the farm shop has an amazing selection of goods.

This was our first lunch out since lockdown so wanted to sit outside. Although a lot of tables were reserved we managed to find a table for two and the waiting staff were very prompt in making sure the table was clean for us. The menu was on the table under the glass which was a great idea so you are not given a paper menu which someone else has recently touched. The service was excellent as was the food and we felt very comfortable and safe.

Had a roast beef sandwich and crab in a bap takeaway for £21 plus. On opening the roast beef sandwich wrapped in sellophane was shocked to see it was only 1 slice of bread open and a bit squashed. But I must admit it was tasty if not a bit messy. Would it have harmed to make it a closed sandwich with another slice of bread ? The crab in a bap was dry and not so great. So to sum up 1 good sandwich 1 average sandwich outrageously overpriced

Lovely food and a good offering for gluten free. My only observation is that the seating in the courtyard is not well socially distanced with people sitting back to back well under a metre once sat. Remove some of the end tables and job done. Such a lovely place. Well worth a visit.

Popped in for a much needed flat white after walking from Budleigh Salterton. Signage and one way system through the cafe and tables outside well distanced. The coffee was great and the cheese scones to die for served with plenty of butter, yum!

We visited the Riveria for lunch today, our first visit for 8 years and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I ordered cod and chips at a hotel next to the sea but I was given a piece of battered fish straight out of the "Bird's Eye" mould and not freshly cooked as I expected from a hotel of some repute. This was nowhere near the quality I enjoy regularly from my local Wetherspoons!

Stunning pub with amazing food, wine selection, and the owners and staff are absolutely wonderful. It's our favourite place to visit. Twinkly lights, cosy fire in the winter, and live music and garden parties in the summer. Perfect 👌

We enjoyed our night at this well run, clean and friendly hotel. The three course evening meal was freshly prepared and delicious. Our room was spotless and well presented. We both are surprised this is only a two star rated hotel, as our experience exceeded many four stars we’ve stayed in. Our breakfast was again delicious. The staff are all attentive and couldn’t do enough for us. It has ample parking and a beautiful rear garden with seating. If we are in the region again, we would wholeheartedly head for The Tumbling Weir, Thank~you

I asked for a cream tea for two and was told it was £12 for one scone each and a mug, but if I wanted a pot for two and two scones it would be £18. I queried this and was told by two assistant that was right. How can that be right? Ridiculously overpriced even if it cost £12 with a pot. The scone was out of a packet and heated up (probably to soften it up) and wasn’t that thrilling!
