We were staying at the hotel and so had our dinner here in the evening. I think it is only at present open to hotel guests which is why tripadvisor thinks it is currently closed? Really nice dining room. Very grand. Great menu. I had the steak and chips which were delicious. We were looked after well by the staff. Good wines. In all an excellent meal.

Bar has a good selection of beers and wines. Small but adequate dinner menu. Presentation excellent. I had the creamy garlic mushrooms to start which was very tasty. Steaks were cooked to perfection.

We had a lovely stay here just before Christmas as we were attending a wedding nearby. We were made to feel very welcome, and really enjoyed having a glass of wine by the fire in the lounge. There was a lovely big Christmas tree under the stairs as you walked in which made it really nice. Our room was clean and warm and the bed comfortable. Ellie bent over backwards to make our stay relaxing so well done. We will be back.

My wife and I frequented this lovely freindly place on Friday 20th September 2019, just an hour away from our home for a night away in beautiful rural Northumberland. Our meals were very nice and appetising, our drinks went down well :-) and I have to say that the bed was firm but so comfortable, we both had a really good nights sleep ;-) Breakfast was delightful, with an array of cereals, fruit, and juices with a good cooked breakfast to boot. We shall be definately returning

Okay, Trip Advisor. One review for sleeping... one for the restaurant. For an in-hotel establishment, their food is quite good. I appreciate the modest selection (prepare 3-6 main courses well, avoid numerous mediocre dishes). The pasta dish is mild tasting. Our service was prompt. Go to the nearby pub if you want to break up the routine, eh.

Lovely family run castle / hotel. Great relaxed atmosphere. It was exceptionally clean throughout (i loved the fact that the bedroom carpet was a cream colour and yet there was not a spot of dirt or stain on it anywhere !). Lovely and comfortable period furnishings and fixtures throughout which made the hotel feel very authentic, interesting and homely. The food was also excellent. Would definitely recommend - we loved it.

We needed somewhere to catch up the night after a wedding, so that family could chill for a bit to say our goodbyes. We ordered loads of coffee and some tea and at no point did we sense we might be a bit of a pain. We took over the lounge and again, the team at the castle just rolled with it. We can’t have been quite, we never are when family gets together, but again, smiles and helpfulness. We loved the visit, the castle is great and the staff are even better. Would I recommend it to others, well as our American friends might say “hell yea” !

My husband and I were in Otterburn for a family wedding (at a different venue). He and I, as well as other members from the wedding and the bride and groom, stayed here the night after the wedding. The castle and grounds are so beautiful. The rooms are all very spacious and clean. Staff are very friendly and a pleasure to chat with. We found it a little ridiculously strict that outside alcohol is not allowed in any of the rooms "or any evidence of," but there is a little bar near the lobby, and also a large room next to it in which to sit and enjoy your drinks. We weren't able to eat in the restaurant for dinner as our party was too large for the chef to accommodate (we did not give them any notice, completely our fault), but walked down the road to a really great restaurant. My husband and I had to leave really early the next morning to catch a flight, so we unfortunately didn't get to eat breakfast in the restaurant, but other family members said it was great. This is a really neat place to stay, something different than your typical hotel. Would love to stay here again some day!

We stayed for 3 nights at the Otterburn Castle Hotel and can't fault the staff who were all friendly and helpful - and multi-tasking! We had a huge ground floor room with huge bathroom which was very comfortable if not state of the art. Be warned that wifi and TV reception are both a bit hit and miss in the area. I would have given a higher rating but to be honest the evening meal on the first night was disappointing and quite highly priced so we ate out on the two subsequent nights. Breakfast was fine though.

In the centre of Otterburn is the Otterburn Castle Country Hotel. At first glance it looks like a wedding venue but it does have a bar and an evening restaurant. And for me, one of the delights is that you can pop in and just have a coffee to break that beautiful bit long track from Newcastle to Edinburgh. Large comfortable armchairs in an elegant well decorated 18th Century lounge - perfect for coffee. But do look round some of the corners. The stone flagged hall and grand staircase in the original 10thC tower area are impressive. But see if you can find that well ....inside the house! I hope to review again soon because I want to stay here and try the restaurant, I was that impressed by the coffee and the very friendly service. Oh, and the setting and view over the terrace is superb.

Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.

My cousin and I were hugely impressed by Castaways. I had been reluctant to go because about 20 years ago the original café had been taken over by a useless couple. But when I passed and looked in, I could see that its original atmosphere had been recreated by the current management. Our reception was very friendly. The café was full (always a good sign) and we were third in the queue. Our table was soon ready and we were seatedby a waitress. We were very comfortable and the atmosphere was nice. Many pleasant people there as customers happily dining and chatting. Good choice of food and drink. I had the traditional breakfast and my cousin had… I think it was avocado and egg on sourdough bread. We were both very content with our lunch. I will certainly return and bring members of my family to enjoy castaways. Nicely sited, easy car parking and great views over Seaton Sluice and the sea. Get yourself along there and have a treat!
