Other Monkey Brewing - The Taproom in Colchester

Just called for a drink whilst working in Colchester ,decided to order some food, southern chicken bao bun and beer infused fries, absolutely delicious, perfectly presented next level, aslo great play list

A great tasting night. Mac is a fab’ host. We’ve had many great nights here with a huge variety of beers. A definite must!!!

We regularly visit OMB as it's our go to in Colchester and what we'd consider our local. The evening was hosted by Mac who was incredibly hospitable, the food was incredible and the beer was flowing. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming and we would recommend it for anyone looking for a more chill time with a great varied selection of drinks that you wouldn't get at other more traditional pubs. The guys also brew their own beers in house which is on view for everyone to see. If you live in Colchester it's a must visit.

Was a great experience, with amazing food and some really interesting choices of beer! As a newbie to beer, it was great to try something new, paired with some beautiful food.

Excellent explanation of the brewing process (including how different hops, malted barley, yeast, water and temperature all play their part in the final product), history of brewing and some technical stuff, but explained in easy to understand laymans terms to my son and I by Technical Brewer Tim. The tasters were excellent...... Food upstairs in the restaurant afterwards was also excellent.

Me and three friends went to the “brinner” event and it was amazing!! The food was fantastic and each dish was paired with a beer! I’m not a big beer drinker but the beers paired with the dishes were incredible and completely complemented the dishes! There’s guys totally know what they’re doing! Can’t wait to book on to the curry pairing night when it’s available!!!

We love OMB for friendly staff, great beer and brilliant atmosphere. Food is great, staff is knowledgeable about the beers. This is our local and we love it 😊

When in Colchester, it is an absolute pleasure to pop in to try new, freshly brewed beers. Always a friendly atmosphere and Mac and all his staff go out of their way to make us feel welcome and they always have a fantastic knowledge of the new beers available. We came across this small brewery/bar whilst spending one night in Colchester. It was made very special by the welcoming hospitality afforded to us by the manager Matt. The whole experience was memorable with the beers on offer. Thanks once again for a fantastic evening. Visited Monday 22 January.

Lets start with the elephant in the room. The customers. This is not the taprooms fault at all. But we did overhear rather loud, racist conversations. To the point that we had to challenge it. Which was rather unfortunate as everything else was very good, I have not considered this within my rating, but I did clock that the young staff looked quite awkward about the confrontation, and maybe some support and training in conflict management could be offered to support them (although hopefully the parties will think twice about verbalizing racist ideas so loudly in future!) I booked in advanced, checking that they were 12 year old boy friendly and dog friendly. They booked us in downstairs as we had the dog. We had a lovely spacious table booked. It was 1pm but still very quiet in there (until the racist parties came in). We ordered food, which was lovely. I ordered a bacon mac n cheese, my step son a pulled pork burger and my husband a vegan roast- which, although it was lovely, he was a little disappointed that it quite literally was a plate of veg. It said roasts came with Yorkshire Pud, so he assumed there would be a vegan one, and was expecting something like a nut roast or vegan sausages, especially for £16, but all the same it was nice. Food was lovely. Beer was great- we enjoyed a tasting flight and some others which were all good quality. The bar has a great selection of card games to enjoy. Dessert was a little slow to come out, but it was tasty and enjoyed by my husband and step son. Overall, we believe and we hope it was just unfortunate that we encountered these guests, and we would definitely return again in the future. We probably wouldn't order the vegan roast again, but the burgers were a great size, and I'm sure the Bao Buns would be good value too.

This is a lovely place if you like beer and cider. Clean and friendly location and Mac is a great host that makes you feel at home. Looking forward to drinking our takeaway bottles and will be back again soon for a refill or two!!

Been to a few tasting nights at Other Monkey Brewing and as always had a fantastic night. Great beer, great food, lovely company, all seamlessly presented by very knowledgeable hosts who live and breath (literally!) Beer. We went here for a small works do this week, the manager was super friendly and helpful (whilst there and also whilst helping to organise). We had great food and lovely drinks. Couldn’t recommend this enough. It’s got a more chilled out atmosphere than three wise, and is great for groups! Thank you again!

When I bring guests to Colchester, a must stop place for excellent food and drink is this establishment built on the site of the 2000 year old Roman baths. Offering a range of on site brewed craft beers, you get a friendly welcome a range of outstanding brewed on the premises beers and excellent food, all in the heart of Colchester and less than 100m from Colchester Castle.

This has become my favourite bar in Colchester, I went there in February with some of my German friends who thought the Altbeir was as good as they get in Germany. Then I took the wife to the ‘Meet the Brewer” event which we highly recommend and got a tour around the brewery and informative talk on how they brew the beer there, followed by sampling some excellent beers. This week we went to the Street Food Taster Night, not only did we get a great service again from Aaron and Anton but we also got to try 4 different foods and 8 beers to sample them with. After viewing many different wedding venues and then deciding on a smaller, more intimate wedding with close family and friends we decided to look closer to home in Colchester. We hadn't visited the Tap Room only The Three Wise Monkeys, but we immediately agreed it would be perfect. After many emails, meeting with the head chef to create our menu and then face to face meetings with Mac (GM) we knew everything was going to run smoothly. The team were attentive, nothing seemed too much of an issue. They allowed us to set up early (being a Monday afternoon reception), including bringing in a hired pool table. The food was amazing, a mocktail personalised to the bride and all guests had something available they enjoyed. It was the first wedding reception they hosted and I really hope other couples will consider the intimate venue - it definitely became budget friendly in comparison to standard 'wedding venues' and having visited TWM we knew the food would be perfect. I cannot recommend the team enough! They made our day and evening so special and memorable. They understood exactly what we wanted and went above and beyond for our wedding.

I had the real pleasure to photograph a recent reception being held here. I go to lots of venues and I can say without doubt the service, hospitality and professionalism was top class! Mac and Lavinia were running the event and were attentive not only to the wedding party but also to me which I have to say is a rarity. I personally really felt cared for and it was great to see them work with such dedication. I will be recommending them to future couples who are looking for an intimate, professional and caring venue with a great atmosphere and will certainly be going back with my partner who loves craft beers. Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! You are a great team x
