Made a last minute booking at this small restaurant last Saturday night and were delighted that we did. The food was simply stunning. I had possibly the best venison I've ever eaten, it was so succulent and tasty, and the desserts were fabulous. Can't wait to go back and although we live an hour's drive away I would happily make a special trip to Cupar simply to eat there.

Over a period of 30 years we have eaten at Ostlers Close on many special occasions and without fail it has always been memorable.Tonight's meal was no exception. We both enjoyed a monkfish based amuse bouche. As starters we had scallops with pork belly and halibut. Both delicious.I had local spring lamb and my wife had beef .We had discussed going half and half but one taste of our respective meals meant both of us wanted to stick with what we had! Amanda recommended a very good crianza Rioja to accompany the lamb- very smooth. As desserts we had an oatmeal meringue with salted caramel ice cream and an upside down apple crumble- both great.Coffees with petit fours to finish a great night.Cupar remains lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant .Thank you.

We hadn't managed to eat here for a while, but we are so pleased we chose Ostler's Close for our meal out. Now that I need to eat Gluten Free, I sometimes worry about eating out. I didn't have to worry one little bit at Ostler's Close. All of the food was delicious, great choice on the menu and the knowledge and attention to detail is fantastic. Best gluten free bread I have tasted by far and everything is beautifully home made. Thank you.

We were not disappointed in the food at Ostler's Close, which lived up to its reputation. I had lamb and my husband had beef. Both courses were cooked to order and came with a super variety of fresh vegetables. Our desserts were amazing! The marmalade pudding was very tasty and my toasted meringue course was one of the best desserts I have had for a long time. The menu changes daily- there is not a large choice, but what Ostler's do is done very well. Our compliments to the chef. Many thanks. We will be back.

It’s time I wrote a review for Ostlers Close. We’ve been clients since it opened and it is still cause to be overjoyed when we visit. It is the standard against which we judge others, here and In Europe and it is still “home” for us. The food, wine and service are consistently excellent and anyone seeking fine dining in this neck of the woods should visit Jimmy and Amanda for a stunning treat.

Friendly, quirky, tiny, accommodating, great attention to detail, still promoting the very best of local seafood, produce, meat and veg as it always has done. If it no longer stands out quite so much locally that is because others have followed its lead down the decades, not because it has declined. This is an important restaurant, for which we should be grateful. It has led and now others follow.

Four of us had dinner here some weeks ago. From start to finish the whole experience was first class. The food offering catered for all tastes and the wine list contained several gems which are hard to find elsewhere. Needless to say both the food and wine were fantastic and offered excellent value for such quality. It is obvious both owners are devoted to the business and all questions were answered in detail. No surprise then that this restaurant has been at the top of its game for many years and hopefully local diners appreciate what is on their doorstep.

Ostlers is a tiny family run restaurant in Cupar a short 15 minute drive from St Andrews. The husband and wife combo create interesting and delicious menus from what is in season and fresh. I had a mushroom tartin, which was exquisite, as an appetizer followed by the breast of duck, equally sumptuous. The restaurant can only handle about 12 - 14 diners at a time and is located in a small alley off the main road. While hard to find this gem of a restaurant is well worth the effort. There is a decent selection of wines and the dinner prices are reasonable.

First visit to restaurant and found it to be quite dated in appearance and as the evening wore on, very uncomfortable due to room temperature. Therfore, difficult to relax and enjoy the whole experience. All dishes were extremely tasty apart from the fact there was a shot in the pigeon dish. Owners should really look into the room temperature as well as the not so agreeable comments on other restaurants by the owner.

The menu in this restaurant is not huge which immediately sends a message to the diner that the dishes are all freshly cooked. The mushroom tart tatin was absolutely delicious then followed by a seafood selection consisting of pieces of hake, turbot, scallop and monkfish cooked with vegetables like a stew was very pleasing to the palate. Unfortunately we were overfed with the two courses and could find no space for a dessert. Although we declined the inclination to indulge we could see that the desserts looked mouth watering. We have not been here for years but remember it well as not much has changed in this wee restaurant up a close in the old part of Cupar which, once upon a time, was the county town of Fife long before tate young upstart new town of Glenrothes grabbed that "accolade". Inside does, therefore, look both familiar and a wee bit old fashioned but then the food is still cooked with skill and honesty and served by chef's wife. Dishes are explained with care and without all the flummery of some of the more contemporary foodie places. My venison was tender as could be and the halibut starter fine and with taste. After being given a gift voucher for Ostler's Close as a wedding gift we booked a table for the end of January to give us something to look forward to, luckily the restaurant did not disappoint at all!On arrival (we were 10 minutes early and things were still being set up) we were greeted like old friends and shown to our table with no concern for the fact we were early. Drinks were offered up quickly, with my wife opting for a prosecco and me asking for the wine list. Amanda was able to talk us through the wine choices and made an excellent recommendation for us that went well with everything we ate.Onto the food and first up was a fish soup amuse bouche served with mini bread rolls. Ordinarily fish anything is not high on my list of choices but this was very tasty and just the right size to whet my appetite for what was to come next. For starters I opted for Scallops which were cooked perfectly and were a real treat with everything on the plate coming together well to make an excellent dish, while Lisa had a vegetarian tart which she thoroughly enjoyed (it was a hard choice to not go for the pigeon). Onto main courses where I chose fillet steak which was a perfect rare-medium while Lisa had lamb, everything on both plates again worked perfectly with the only thing being left on the plates a couple of small slithers of liver that were served with the lamb, which just weren't to Lisa's taste. Next up was dessert where we shared a meringue with ice cream and a cheese board which we thought served as a lovely end to a very tasty meal.... only it wasn't the end with 3 small sweets each being brought to our table with a chocolate truffle, piece of tablet and a meringue with lemon curd topping dinner off perfectly.Listening to Amanda going about her business was an absolute treat with her obviously caring dearly about every guest enjoying their dinner, taking an interest in everybody's reason for visiting and generally being a wonderful host. All in all, I would recommend a visit here to anyone looking for excellent local food cooked amazingly well.

We last visited Ostlers Close some time ago and were pleased to discover that standards have remained very high. The reasons are not difficult to identify. The restaurant is reached by entering a small passageway off the main street in Cupar. the room is small and does not have many tables so given its success it is essential to book ahead. The welcome one receives from the hostess the wife of the chef is very warm and she never fails to chat with all her guests. The menu changes regularly specialising in local and seasonal foods. I had the hake with langoustine sauce as a starter followed by fillet steak in a wine sauce and both were elegantly presented and of gourmet standard. The wines are reasonably priced as is the food. Indeed I noticed that my steak was priced the same as a far inferior dish at a restaurant near my home. Fine dining at a mid range price.

Went to this tiny restaurant with three kids. Already when I made the reservation the owner inquire whether she should prepare special pasta for the younger kiddos - I declined but thought to myself that this must be a really good restaurant - not one of these tourist rip offs with chicken nuggets or fish fingers. The restaurant is tiny and in a small alley off the Main Street. It felt more like entering someone's private house. The menu is hand written and rather limited - exactly the way we like it. The owner personally attends to all the guests and explains every one of the delicious options. Her husband Jimmy was cooking in the small kitchen. It became very clear that this is one of these rare restaurants where the owners took personal pride in running the place with careful attention to details. The dishes were very good no question and we all thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience.Only downside is probably the price - somewhat above average but @ the end you pay for quality and that's clearly what you will get

We went here for a special occasion and, to be honest, were quite disappointed. The restaurant was quiet the evening we were there and there was no background music to give the place any atmosphere. The food was ok but not outstanding. I'm struggling to remember what I had! We have been to other fine dining restaurants and are happy to pay for a good experience. Unfortunately this wasn't one.The lady of the house was extremely overbearing and we couldn't get rid of her. We went out to have a romantic meal and spent it hearing about all her ailments, the cost of getting table linen laundered, her daughter's job etc etc. I assume she didn't have enough to do as it was a quiet night in March. There is a fine line between friendly and overfriendly and she overstepped it by miles!!

Went to Ostlers Close for the graduation dinner of my daughter from St. Andrews and was not disappointed. The seafood was exceptionally fresh and served in a very innovative manner. Don't let the decor put you off, you will get fine dining in a very quaint setting. Wish I could go back.

I've wanted to try this restaurant for a long time now and thankfully due to a last minute cancellation managed to get a table. We were greeted by friendly and knowledgeable owners and instantly made to feel welcome. Great chat and fantastic service. The menu, although small comprises of quality, local and seasonal ingredients which made choosing difficult as I happily would have eaten everything on the menu. All food was cooked perfectly, well seasoned and full of flavour. Between the three of us we could not find a fault. Absolutely stunning meal. The extra starter taster and birthday candle made our night all the more special.

A really nice little restaurant (even if the decor is a bit dated). The food is fresh, seasonal and wonderfully cooked although the lady of the house is a bit overbearing!

Located up one of cupars closes oysters is well worth the money and is one of the best meals we have tasted all year. To have such a gem on our doorstep is a great find. Friendly personal and relaxed service alongside high end food using fabulous locally sourced ingredients. Some modern touches and clever ideas delivering dishes that surpass expectation. More peo should support this amazing restaurant and spread the word. No taxi or train ride needed for top quality food!

We ate with another couple last Friday who are regulars and always highly recommended we try Ostlers. We did and were certainly not disappointed. The food was clearly freshly and locally sourced, sensibly priced for the quality, well presented and simply delicious. Clean plates all round across 3 courses. Service was excellent. We will return and would advise others to visit as well.

This tiny family-run restaurant is a revelation! The food is all locally sourced and only in-season produce is used. The owners do the all the cooking and run front of house with such efficiency and warmth. It is a fabulous place to enjoy exquisitely cooked and beautiful in a cosy, convivial atmosphere.

It's like dinning in someone's front room but with an amazing chef serving up incredible food! The hosts and staff are always very friendly. Atmosphere is relaxed and cosy which is rare in a restaurant serving such a high standard of food. Recommend the scallops (always brilliant) and also the Sticky Toffee Pudding to finish (it's usually a special and is the BEST I have ever tried)! Perfect for family occasions as they welcome all! Always visit for family birthdays and they are always so nice! :)

Booked for new years eve. Have eaten here before. As usual, find it difficult to decide which dish to eat, as all they read amazing. Luckily my partner likes to share so that helps a little. The atmosphere is great. You are not hurried out the door after your meal. Amanda's wine recommendation for our meal was spot on. Meal cooked to perfection. Visiting St. Andrews? Make your way over to Cupar and try this resturant. You will not be disappointed.

We were taken by friends who live in Cupar and know the restaurant and owners well. The food, service and ambiance were well up to expectations based on Trip Advisor’s reports. Lovely fresh local food, nicely cooked and presented with little well balanced flavour surprises on each plate. The turbot which was available that night was a joy. Would be very pleased to go back at any time.

I've been eating here for 30 years and each visit is a pleasure. Amanda and Jimmy take great care over ingredients, cooking and presentation. Service is attentive but not intrusive. We also held our wedding reception at Ostlers' Close where the exacting standards of cooking and presentation were enjoyed by our friends and family.

Took my wife to celebrate her 60th birthday. Made very welcome and given a breakdown of how the menu is set out. There was also the added bonus of a small, separate, well chosen wine list to match courses (this was to celebrate the 34th anniversary of Ostlers Close. You could mix and match to suit your own taste from aperitif to dessert wine with excellent choices or red and white to accompany starters and main courses. Every course was delicious with just the right amount of time between each one and the home-made petit-fours rounded off a perfect meal.

Oslers is a small and cosy family run restaurant which has been an institution in Cupar (up Oslers Close off the main street) for over 25 years. dad is chef (with help when available from kids) and mum is front of house (with help from kids when needed). they have a number of loyal and oft-repeating guests and friends, but are very welcoming to all. The food is of a high standard and usually of local produce. A good wine list. Not the cheapest, but well worth it if you appreciate quality and an intimate atmosphere.

I have been going to this restaurant with my family and friends for many years and not once have we had cause for complaint of any kind. The proprietors Jimmy and Mandy Graham always make their customers feel extremely welcome. The food is out of this world with seasonal local produce being served to an extremely high standard in a cosy intimate setting. The wine list is also exceptional.

The approach to this body restaurant gives little indication of the culinary excellence therein. Cosy, intimate and atmospheric. The scallop starter was fine, the lamb top notch and the mirabelle plum tart first rate. Service was acceptable send the wine list interesting. The choice of foraged mushrooms was outstanding. Presentation grand. All in all a great choice for a calibre meal.

This is the second visit for me and I can say that the quality remained high on both occasions. The menu is packed with local food in season, which certainly makes for difficult choices as there were a few options that looks very appealing, however when it came down to it each of us were extremely pleased with our selection.Looking forward to the next time!Menus

We visited on a family occasion and were welcomed warmly on arrival by the hostess who is the wife of the chef. This is a small family owned restaurant with a limited number of tables so booking is essential. The food is exceptional and is best described as fine dining at a reasonable price. The dishes are unusual and change frequently. I started with a pigeon and followed with hake both of which were beautifully presented and delivered a range of tempting flavours

Recently re-opened as a restaurant after being a wedding-only venue for several years. Beautiful country house in a lovely rural setting. Staff are very welcoming and looked after us very well. Food was great - modern Scottish. Overall feels like a really high-end experience, but at prices similar to many St Andrews restaurants.

Booked lunch for my son's birthay. Delighted to discover we had a private room with a lovely fire to warm us up. The menu read well with the choice of desserts a particular delight to me. All the dishes we had were really tasty and beautifully presented. The price of the three course lunch represented excellent value for money and the wine list provided a good choice without breaking the bank. Highly recommend you pay The Grange Inn a visit soon - we shall certainly be back
