Very nice piźza for lunch as always

Sorry I just don't get the rave reviews about this restaurant. Visited yesterday and although the service was OK, we did feel a little rushed. Food was underwhelming as was the Portugese white wine (£9 for a medium glass) we weren't asked if we wanted dessert, just presented with a blackboard so we could choose. Very hard to say no. Mussels we're good as we're the starters, but the Ragu was salty and otherwise tasteless. All in all not impressed. Overpriced food, rushed service and hard wooden chairs. I'm sure there are better Italian restaurants in Shrewsbury.......I'll keep looking!

Ok pizza, freshly made. Poor service, had to ask for drinks even after pizza delivered. Waited ages after asking for bill. Feels like a recycled Wetherspoons without the cheap beer x

Excellent authentic Italian cuisine, unfortunately soured for us by not being offered a complimentary drink as many others were and being overcharged for our desert. So unnecessary and sadly spoilt an excellent meal.

My wife and I got married in Shrewsbury years ago and we wanted to return to celebrate our anniversary. I booked this restaurant weeks in advance based on the reviews. We weren't disappointed. It was probably one of the best meals we have ever had. The food and service were amazing. I had the pork belly whist my wife had the mussels to start. I then had the lamb whilst my wife had the ox tongue for main. I would highly recommend this restaurant. You should not be disappointed.

Working in the area and wanted someone nice to eat, I came here both days, food and service great. It was busy midweek which is always a good sign! Highly recommended

A disappointing evening. Alarming to be greeted by a bouncer on the door before being allowed in, unusual protocol for a restaurant! Sat down and got asked twice if we wanted to place a drinks order, which was fair enough - an easy oversight. We placed our food order and some 40 minutes later with no sign of it arriving, we had to ask how much longer. Another 10 minutes. A ragu, a slowcooked ox cheek, a linguine and a pizza should all be items easy to get out of the kitchen significantly quicker than that. Left waiting again when we asked for the bill. Won't be returning which is a shame as never want to go out for a disappointing experience and come home hungry - did not want to eat my seafood pasta as the pasta was undercooked and the seafood smelt horrendously fishy which the likes of prawns and squid never should.

I was recommended this place, and told it was really good. We were greeted on entry and shown to our table. We ordered 2 pints of coke for drinks. These came quite quickly. My partner then went to the toilets, whilst she was away I ordered our meals. We waited a while without our meals arriving. Another waiter came over and apologised that the other waiter had forgotten our order so could we order again. Then, the coke tasted funny and we were told the syrup needed changing, so they replaced our pint drinks with 2 small bottles that weren't even half a pint. Our meals eventually came, I had lamb, my partner had chicken. They came in deep sided bowls. It was hard to get the fork in properly. I then took a mouthful of meat and something really sharp stuck in my cheek. I pulled out what looked like a really long fish bone that was really sharp. I gave it to the waiter who said he would tell the chef. The chef didn't even come out and apologise. I had no explanation or apology. When I received the bill I had a gratuity of £6.50 which wasn't explained, plus after paying, my partner said they charged me for 2 pints of coke £9 when we only had 2 small bottles. The evening was a total failure, and cost me a lot of money, with not even an apology for all the bad things that happened. I won't be dining here again

Best seafood pasta I've ever had. More seafood than pasta. Fantastic

Amazing restaurant. We made a reservation for my husband's birthday and what a delight. we had a garlic pizza bread starter to share which has options to add various toppings, ours included tomatoes, parmesan, balsamic vinegar, delicious. Mains were a beautifully cooked fillet medium rare, I was told by the waiter (very polite and good service) that chef would refuse to cook if I wanted it cooked any more than medium rare. I like this approach and I see why he said it. The steak was stunning. My husband had the pork very delicious. Somehow we fitted in desert too. Will definitely be coming back. The only reason I put 4 star on atmosphere was at times the music reminded me, at times of my younger drinking days. Although it was quiet and we booked on line I can imagine it getting busy. Very good restaurant and are looking forward to visiting again for pizza next time.

The food and staff were excellent. Even took the trouble to play 2 Frank Sinatra tracks, which they asked us to choose. Highly recommended.

Fabulous Italian restaurant. You may be forgiven for thinking this is a 'run of the mill' Italian restaurant, but you'd be wrong. Having had the pleasure of eating Italian in many a fine eatery, including many times in Italy, this was very, very good. I had pasta, and they do half portions to allow you to have two choices. I went for the Vibo Valentina and the Pappardelle alla Chiantigianna., see photo. Both were fabulous and in particular the pasta was cooked perfectly, and that's rare. Very highly recommended!

Menu has completely changed after attending here several times it would appear the menu has gotten even smaller then I’ve ever seen before, staff are very polite and food was delicious so can’t fault them on that but being honest, the toilet dryer barley even works even my daughter was confused why she couldn’t even dry her hands as keep switching off quickly. Reluctantly leaving this review as my previous review was 5 star but our whole group really felt let down with menu selection limited to few pages. Portions size is very good and can almost share most meals and venue is lovely !

Lovely food whether you're looking for pizza, pasta or some more home comforts. We appreciate that it's not distractingly noisy as the tables are nicely spread out!

Different location - same fantastic food and service. Having frequented the old building many years ago, I was delighted to find out that the chef/owner is the same, yes the location isn’t as intimate but the service and standards are still well above excellence. Looking forward to my next visit!

Went for lunch after not having been for a while and they did not disappoint yet again! I had a carbonara pizza which they so kindly said they could make despite not on the menu anymore and I was able to have a nice chat to Alex the owner and the bartender who were both nice and friendly. The food was amazing and the service was too. It’s clear to see people who don’t like the food are either ignorant to the menu or ignorant to their own taste I can never disapprove of the food as I’ve seen the kitchen itself and everything is made from scratch. Some of the best authentic Italian food you’ll eat I highly recommend! Grazie Mille Alex!

We had our works Christmas party at Osteria last night, and the service and food was exceptional. Plenty of it and to a very good standard. We were all catered for and the team here could not do enough for us. 100% would recommend.

We had a group booking for my son’s 18th birthday. The food was delicious. The staff were all so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them and a lovely atmosphere too.

My first visit tonight for a meal at Osteria for a friend's birthday. The chicken dish i had was brilliant, possible the most succulent piece of chicken I've had in a long time. The staff were great and I'll definitely be calling by there again in the future.

I personally prefer more cheese than sauce on my pizza, but it was still good.

The food was amazing and it was worth going there for lunch with friends but unfortunately our waitress was disorganised and forgetful and the puddings menu clearly had not been updated as two of us requested sweets and after a time were informed they were no longer available although on their sweets board that lunchtime but we will return to hopefully an improved service

Best Italian food I've ate In the UK

Had a lovely meal here last night. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Food was absolutely delicious, authentic Italian food with amazing flavours.

This is one of our favourite Shrewsbury restaurants, but something seems to have changed since we last visited a few months ago. The menu certainly has - gone are the Caprese salad starter and excellent seafood linguine I used to enjoy so much. In their place, my wife and I ordered the meat sharing platter starter for 2 (£30) and prawn risotto, plus beef ravioli mains. The starter was nowhere near as good as the (£20?) meat platter starter we've had at Osteria in the past (now unavailable) and seemed to mostly consist of different slices of salami. Certainly not worth £30. Both the risotto and ravioli mains tasted overcooked, to the point of being burnt - not pleasant at all. A pint and a half of lager, a glass of wine and a bottle of water (no desserts) took us to £100, with 'optional' service charge - for a 2 course meal for 2 people. One of the worst value meals we have ever experienced, I'm afraid. Really disappointing, because we used to love this place, which is why we decided to come here for my birthday meal. I suspect that the chef has changed and, on the evidence of our meal, it's definitely a change for the worse. The staff were as lovely as usual, but a restaurant is ultimately judged on its food and that simply wasn't good enough. We will give Osteria another go in the future, but if we get a repeat of the standard we've just experienced, we'll have to give up on what used to be one of our favorite Italian restaurants. Footnote The owner's response to this review (and indeed to any negative review) is perhaps an indication of what can go wrong at this restaurant. There's never any admission of fault - always an attack on the diner. I don't need to sit down with anyone to 'discuss Osteria's approach to food'. As it happens. we are old enough to have frequently travelled to Italy for many years - it's our favourite holiday destination. We know the difference between good Italian food and bad Italian food. What we had at Osteria was unfortunately very poor, and yes we should have said something about it, but we didn't, because the meal was my wife's birthday treat for me and I didn't want to make a fuss. Yes, I took a photo of the starter, because visually it looked good - I've been quite ill recently and wanted to show my 3 daughters (via WhatsApp) that I was on the road to recovery and out enjoying life again. And finally, yes we paid the service charge because the staff were lovely and we always try to be fair. More fool us, eh?

Found Osteria by chance and glad we did! Best fruitti di mare I have ever had.

Managed to get in with a late booking on Saturday evening. Food was excellent and the service very good. The only slight issue being the length of time it took to get the bill.

The staff are so friendly even as you walk through the door. Everyone seems happy and smiling, especially the customers so that's a good sign. The food came quickly and was beautifully cooked and tasty. The waitress was delightful and very helpful. The ambience was friendly and cheerful. As we came out we passed Pizza Express and the one man in there didn't seem as happy as those we had left in Osteria v2.0.

Last night was my third dining experience with Osteria and it was truly incredible. The staff were amazing and as always, the food was delicious. Two of us had one of their pizzas and the other 2 had other dishes. They too were very happy with their selections. We also had starters and everyone loved what they chose. I had the calamari and it truly was the very best I've ever had. Two of us also had desserts. The lemon cheesecake was divine! I tell all of our customers who are visiting Shrewsbury and looking for dinner recommendations about Osteria and I tell them all it's the best pizza I've had since we returned from our honeymoon in Italy in 2016. For those with food allergens, I know how scary it can be to eat out. My husband is coeliac and we struggle to find restaurants with proper protocols to limit contamination. When I enquired about their protocols I was thrilled to learn how seriously they take food allergens and the lengths they go to limit possible contamination. I was also impressed by their menu selections for those with a gluten allergy. Most restaurants have a limited selection of gluten-free options. He has now eaten with them twice and has not experienced any of the symptoms he experiences when he has been contaminated at other restaurants. Perhaps the best praise I can give them is to say that if they ever close their doors I think all of Shrewsbury will go into mourning. Between the incredible staff, the cosy atmosphere and the authentic Italian food they serve, I can't think of any other place I would rather take friends for dinner.

We had a great dinner here on a weeknight. I can recommend the calamari starter, and risotto main. Sadly as we opted for a garlic bread appetizer we were too full to try the Tiramisu. The service was great, the staff obviously are experienced and competent.

Stunning food, great service, modern laid back interior - only spoilt by an obnoxious fellow diner who did nothing but complain - staff were beyond professional in thier patience and offer of replacement meal and discount on his bill. Definitely RECOMMEND this place - great food and lovely people. We'll be back!

Not the neighbourhood Italian vibe we hoped for. Instead expect a large neon lit place. Staff nice on arrival but the dish I ordered was blood red Nduja pasta dish (even the pasta was red) and not what I hoped for as I have a stomach condition. I didn’t touch it and asked to return it. Staff rude once I said I couldn’t eat it and would you believe it charged me 50% for the pasta which was untouched. Ruined my entire meal with my partner and staff totally unapologetic. We left and owner came out onto the street v apologetic but didn’t offer any refund of 50% paid (my gf had eaten another dish and we’d also had wine and a starter). Cannot recommend as on the rare occasion I have returned a dish untouched in the past it’s never been charged for, especially if we’e already paid for wine, a starter, another dish etc as in this case.

An absolutely wonderful evening from start to finish. Staff were exceptionally kind and went the extra mile when they found out it was my birthday. And the food was just spectacular. The Tiramasu was so good I didn't want it to end. Can't wait to return.

Disappointed to be honest, it really doesn't have a atmosphere, more like a school canteen, service was the best, forget the bread we ordered t go with our starters, when it arrived we only got one bowl instead of two, the wine wasn't as good as we've had before <same brand >, I couldn't recommend it to anyone else. Shame.

The food and service were okay, but you can't say it's a real Italian restaurant, it depends on what your standards are. If we talk about dessert, the tiramisu is delicious, but never order cheese cake because you may be very disappointed.

The best food outside of Italy and probably even some places in Italy. Try the risotto with king prawns or seafood linguine. We couldn’t fault the food, the service or the ambience. A fantastic meal, one to be remembered. Thank you!

This is a wonderful restaurant who make fabulous food. They cater for my allergies as everything is cooked from scratch they can work most dishes to be avaliable. Then are also brilliant with our disabled sin who loves their Pizza

The food and service were very good, except the lasagne was dried out (although we were assured it was made fresh that day). The restaurant is vast, not cosy and intimate; even the small room at the front is open to the rest. Two parties with young children were running about and making a lot of noise, although we were told it was a quiet evening. That's fine if you don't mind, but it spoiled our experience.

There are not enough stars to rate this place accurately! The food is exceptional, staff are lovely and a wide range of choices to suit everyone. It was really hard to choose off the extensive, tempting menu (including a wide choice for vegetarians). Authentic, homemade Italian cuisine on our doorstep - I can’t wait to return and try the other dishes I have my eye on…!

Gorgeous food and attentive staff

This place is amazing. The pizza is even better than a lot of the pizzas we've had in Italy! I'd argue the pizza I had was better than anything I've had from Sorbillo. The desserts were amazing too. Definitely going back to try more of the menu. The dough balls on one of the other tables looked amazing! 😋🤌

Dined at Osteria last night. We were a group of 12. Monday evening, restaurant not particularly busy. Orders placed by 1930. Food eventually arrived at 2100.!! We were given no warning that there would be a delay of this kind. Asked manageress to apologise to group..she did so but insisted we should have pre ordered. ( something we weren't able to do). .Wished I had never asked her. They even put a £30 plus service charge on the bill! Will never take tour groups to this place again. AVOID!!

Service was so fast as we booked to go just as the place opened, great staff, friendly lovely vibe from them, the food is another level though, we had calamari and a mushroom polenta starter, the flavours were so good top quality and fresh. For the main we had a pizza and a prawn risotto which were both perfection, we shared a pistatio gelato for dessert again so happy with the flavours, presentation. Cant wait to come back and try more off the menu

Such a lovely restaurant with delicious food and friendly and attentive staff. Non was our server and she made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. It was my birthday lunch and I was delightfully surprised when they brought my dessert with a candle in it and Non and her colleague sang happy birthday to me.We recommend the risotto gamberi & pistachio, the vibo valentia (the burrata cheese helps cool down the spicy sausages nicely) and the hazelnut cannoli (so good!). We will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Shrewsbury.

As an Italian national I cannot express enough how genuine the cuisine and the service were. Food was excellent prepared with care and expertise of Italian master chefs (like mamma does) and the atmosphere was really bringing me back to Italy. Worth a visit (or more 🙂). Thank you! See you again.

Brilliant food, I'd order the seafood pasta if I went again as it looked amazing. We let them know it was my mother's in laws birthday and they were amazing in helping her celebrate. Quality of food was fantastic, and the service was attentive, friendly and genuine.

Il elaborate on why they fully deserve 5 stars, booked here on a recommendation of a colleague I work with, both me and my partner love Italian food and my grandad was Italian so we’ve always visited Italy and it’s an amazing country for good food relaxed atmosphere and a generally friendly place and Osteria was a exactly all of those things! The food is sensational Portions are generous Quality of ingredients is fantastic. The service was efficient and friendly we shared a bottle of Italian red which again was lovely, food served piping hot and presented so well on the plate, after we had eaten we met the owner/chef? What a lovely man very chatty friendly and outgoing and the limoncello was a very nice touch at the end, we will definitely be regular customers to this restaurant it is now certainly one of our favourites Thankyou to all of the staff it was a lovely evening start to finish.

Don’t order steak!!! At £34 for a fillet steak you would expect an exceptional fillet..!!.. however it is sadly a sliced stewing steak covered in salty marmite sauce… horrid, really horrid. The ladies serving the food were lovely. The young man arranging seating was simply awful - zero personality or customer service. We will never ever go there again. A really disappointing and over priced evening ☹️

Another great meal at Osteria, first time around we had the prawn risotto which was fantastic. This time I had the Zuppe Di Pesce which was just amazing, so much on the plate and so full of flavour. Pizzas, lasagne and the carbonara were also thoroughly enjoyed. Try the pork belly bites as a starter, they're delicious. Staff were all lovely, very efficient and friendly, a great experience and we will be going back.
