Osteria Basilico in Kensington and Chelsea

We recently enjoyed a delightful lunch at Osteria Basilico in Notting Hill as part of our Halloween trip to London. This cozy Italian spot, just a short walk from Portobello Road, served up an amazing pizza experience. The kids loved their classic margherita, while we tried a special pizza topped with air-dried beef, burrata, and rocket salad, enhanced with a splash of balsamic vinegar—it was delicious! The menu was extensive, filled with tempting pasta dishes. A good sign of quality was seeing several single diners, including an elderly gentleman outside savouring his pasta. Overall, Osteria Basilico is a fantastic choice if you’re craving authentic Italian food in a charming setting.

The restaurant opens directly onto the street. Since we couldn't find a seat at the front tables of the restaurant, they put a table in front of other closed businesses to serve us. The service wasn't very fast. To be honest, they sometimes forgot about us because we were a little far away, but we really enjoyed everything we ate.

ノッティングヒルに行った際に寄りました。ノッティングヒルのメインの通りからは外れてるので、店の前は騒がしくありません。 料理はイタリアンで今回は夫婦でパスタを食べました。どちらも美味しかったです。 店の雰囲気も落ち着いていていい感じでした。地下にも席がありました。

Stopped here in October during lunch. Was a bit nervous as I had my son in tow. Service, food and atmosphere were fantastic. Top Italian experience I’ve had on all my travels.

Nos ha encantado. Si estás por nothing Hill no te pierdas esta parada. Sitio chulo y con ambientazo. Los camareros muy simpáticos. La comida auténtico Italiano. Pedimos un entrante de embutido Italiano. Carne, pasta carbonara (auténtica con huevo ) y pasta con gambas. Una copa de vino , un refresco y un agua Todo exquisito . Un pelín caro. Nos costó 114€. Volvería sin dudarlo.

It’s been over a decade since I last stepped through the doors of Osteria Basilica. I’m grateful it’s still here, just as it was. The atmosphere is undeniable. The Italian owner, short and smartly dressed, stands by the kitchen entrance, barking commands at his servers, bartenders, and cooks every thirty seconds, like a ship’s captain whose crew is always adjusting the rigging. Once I tune him out, the sounds of West London take over—chatter, laughter, the clinking of glasses. Every table is packed, people leaning in close, a glass of Chianti in hand or a forkful of food suspended in the air. The place has a worn warmth, the tables, doors, and walls all marked by time. On warm nights, the windows are open and the tables along Kensington Park Road are full. Occasionally, the faint whiff of a cigarette drifts by, nostalgic rather than offensive. The menu—white paper tucked in a plastic binder—looks thrown together in a rush. It’s not fancy, but there’s plenty to choose from. The food, true to the name Osteria Basilica, which means wine and simple food near the church, is basic but comforting, like something Grandma might make, not the slick plates you'd get from Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay. But that’s the charm. This is the place for a family meal, a down-to-earth date, or an evening with friends. It’s not trying to be something else.

Great food and a great location. We have eaten at this same place for years and always loved it. The staff is efficient and friendly.

Took a lot of time to serve us and to place us even though the table was ready . Food was good but a bit too heavy

I accidentally ordered a pizza which I thought was a margarita. Unfortunately, it arrived with meat on it, unsuitable as I am a vegetarian. The waiter was rude when I told him that I am vegetarian and in front of my guest wasn't helpful and asked if I wanted to take it throw it away! I was charged for the meat pizza! No sorry no nothing, plain rudeness. Don't eat there, go across the road to the other two italian restaurants.

Great place for the last minute dinner. Went late at night and was seated immediately. Dog friendly place with a great team. Steak was perfect so the wine pairing suggestion by the waiter. On the highly recommended list

The best italian food I had in London!

Reasonable food with the usual level of service. Family enjoyed their meals. There was some confusion about inside seating on the ground level. Comfy basement level seems to open at 6:30 while earlier guests mostly hope for an empty seat outside.

The way the waiters serve you is very unfortunate. I arrived at 10:07 pm to order two pizzas for takeaway and they told me that the kitchen was closed, when on the website the restaurant say that they are open until 10:30 pm. I sincerely think that they would be better if this people work in another industry without contact with clients

Good food, good portion! The bread is delicious, I had the ossobuco with risotto and I really appreciate it. It is not the cheapest but the portions are good.

Surclassé. L’endroit est très bruyant. J’avais réservé avec « the fork » je n’ai jamais eu le 20% de rabais. Voyant que nous etions des touristes, ils nous ont fait payer l’eau. La minestrone était succulente. Le reste: très moyen. Bref, décevant. Clairement en dessous de la note du site « the fork »

Five stars isn’t enough, the food was as good if not better than in Italy! The location and ambiance is amazing. The staff was friendly and recommended some great dishes and the service was perfect. We felt like we were at a family dinner. Best meal in London by far!!!

We were a group of four friends who visited Osteria Basilikum with high expectations of a good Italian meal. The disappointment was total when we were shown down to the basement where we were given a table with a view straight into the toilets. The air conditioning blew icy cold air so that we froze even though it was a warm evening. We were given the option of sitting outside under an awning, but at the risk of getting wet we declined. If it had been possible to book a table elsewhere at short notice, we would have gone ahead. Even with good food and pleasant service, the experience was a disaster because of the table we were given in the basement. My clear advice is to choose another restaurant if you are offered a table in the basement.

A splendid evening spent at the Italian cuisine The Osteria Basilico. The exquisite aliment displayed a combination of an array of fine herbs and olive oil, its balance, tenderness and texture positively tantalised one’s taste buds. Not only were the food cooked to perfection but its attention to detail pertaining to the presentation and skill of such beautiful and outstanding work must be highlighted. One of my favourite restaurants!

Since when did England become a foodie destination? How bizarre that after two weeks of traveling in Italy, the best Italian food of the entire trip was at the Osteria Basilica in London. We were taken to this restaurant by friends who live in London. I think this restaurant serves mostly locals and regulars. The owner greeted us with handshakes as we arrived and as we departed. They have sidewalk seating, but the best table is inside by the window, which is open during the summer. (I'm told Gwyneth Paltrow sits there when she visits) The menu includes fish, meat, pasta and pizza. All four of our meals were excellent. The delicious tiramisu was the size of a brick.

Found the food average (had pasta) and not worth the money, and the service well below average and very rushed (they brought the bill as soon as we said no to dessert even though we didn’t ask for it, and they asked us twice to pay even though we were there overall for no more than an hour). Not a fan!

Great experience. I am always sceptical about the Italian restaurant but I have been surprised by the food, the quality, the service and overall by the excellent extra virgin olive oil and the knowledge of our waiter about it (a Genovese guy). I recommend it !

Super busy trad Italian restaurant. So busy there was an overspill of tables outside. Excellent location and ambience but book if you want a table.

Arrived at the time booked to be met by the coldest welcome ever. Spoke to staff person at door who was most unhelpful and then another inside restaurant who was equally unhelpful until he saw the manager and told us to speak to him. The manager was also unwelcoming and unfriendly - he checked his bookings and told the staff member to take us downstairs where he shouted out a table number to the waitress there. She was more welcoming and led us to a table in the corner of the room next to the laundry and storage cellar. There was room for about 40 covers and only a family group of 8 and a group of 3 in the room. The waitress took our order and the first course arrived reasonably quickly but after that was cleared away it took over 40 minutes for the main course to arrive. It was obvious that the main restaurant was getting very busy as the noise level was increasing and it appeared that the kitchen couldn't cope hence the delay in our meal. Also the two staff members in our room disappeared to apparently help out upstairs. The food was adequate but nothing special, the waitress was quite pleasant but the whole experience was off putting and we definitely won't be going back there. A few smiles and a warmer welcome would make all the difference and some staff training would be a benefit.

The owner was extremely rude and refused to serve us food because my mom was wearing a hijab and he basically kicked us out without an explanation!

Really rude staff. Called to amend a reservation and cancelled it instead because of how rude the person was. Such a shame because the food is good. The experience gets worse…a manager calls me. First, he mistakes me for a different lady who apparently had just as bad an experience and left the restaurant upset. And he’s calling me not to make mends but to tell me that he is going to delete me from the system. I mean you are upsetting so many customers that you can’t even keep the story straight. I think I’ll survive without being in your system ;)

The food was exeptional. We had some pizzas and had cheesecake and cannoli for desert. Highly recommend it!

Only pasta I will eat in london. I spent two months a year in Italy. And this is only good Italian here.

Up in London to watch our daughter compete in Hyrox at Olympia we wanted to go out as a family afterwards to celebrate her achievement. We chose the restaurant as it sounded like a nice authentic neighbourhood Italian which was just what we wanted. When we walked it the upstairs area looked fab - and was buzzing! Always a good sign. Then things rather went downhill! We were greeted by miserable, grumpy looking bloke who took us downstairs which was totally deserted & showed us to a table right next to the toilets. No atmosphere down there at all & if we hadn’t all been starving we’d probably have left & gone elsewhere! We waited for ages to order drinks - it was like we’d been forgotten about! The food was ok but sadly nothing special for the prices & we have definitely had much better Italian food elsewhere. The waiting staff were very pleasant & clearly doing their best but the overall experience was not great. The bill came to £230 which we did not feel represented good value for money. Left feeling pretty disappointed as I’d spent ages researching good Italian restaurants in west London. Anyway, maybe we just went on a bad day but I wouldn’t go back.

This restaurant is amazing. The food is out of this world, wait staff are great, and ambience is old world romantic. We've had dinner here two out of the last three nights and are already planning our return.

Legendary restaurant perhaps relying on reputation and position. The food not much better than any chain, if at all. Left them the included on bill tip which was appreciated but lack of attention and service combined with the food probably didn't deserve it. I remember loving this place 20 years ago. And design and decor hadn't changed much which is a good thing.

Great find just a few meters from the Portobello vintage market. Very good Italian food. Good quantity and very tasty. Very personalized service, they understand Spanish, David a He has been a real charmer and his professionalism has been exquisite. 100/100 recommendable quality price 10.

I was taken there by someone from Italy! You eat raw ham so daringly! ?　I was actually full from the appetizer. I was sorry that I could only eat a small portion of the main pasta. The tiramisu for dessert was the best I've ever had!

Very authentic Italian restaurant, very cosy, very intimate, the interior is lovely, both the upstairs and downstairs transport you to Italy. It’s always busy which is a good sign, it does mean that it can get a bit loud too however. The seafood pasta was absolutely delicious, enough seafood, good portion size and a lovely level of salt. The tuna tartare starter was amazing, flavourful, and it went well with the accompanied avocado and salad leaves. The bread was warm and moreish. Really recommend the food. The downfall was the service, perhaps we got unlucky on a busy night (was a Thursday night) but it was very slow.

Beautiful restaurant, lovely friendly waiters, with that original Mediterranean warmth, great prosecco, excellent wine selection, good selection of dishes. Clean and speedy service. The frittura di calamari, was not the best, it could do with slightly more flavouring. Diavola pizza was ok, not really diavola, there was not much spiciness. Carbonara was ok as in spaghetti al dente, but too dense and salty. The pizza con burrata excellent. Vitello con fungi nicely cooked. Lovely Cheesecake superb. Affogato good. So a mix of 3/4 stars. Good price for the area.

Terrific food and atmosphere. Perfect place for a date or any other occasion, warm Italian a bit rustic vibe but yet very good in all details. We’ve had two pastas, 3 wines by glass, antipasti and desserts and it was 117 for all.

Came for my birthday and the service and hospitality was by far one of the best experiences I've had. The food was great, the portions were generous and the pizza came out at the speed of light. Overall my favourite Italian place in London, would recommend and visit again

Great selection of food and wine. We had the burrata pizza and truffle pasta and they were both great. The staff was really friendly and accommodating.

Been here before and the food was great so we made reservations to come again but the staff was very rude. Showed up on time for our reservations at 12, they started by complaining that they are not open yet with bad attitude and then slowly set up a corner table behind their booking desk when the whole restaurant is completely empty with already set tables. Asked if the others are free and they told us to move downstairs if we don't like it.

On arrival a very warm welcome. Our table was down stairs and as a large family we enjoyed the atmosphere. The waiting staff were very attentive but the food was fantastic. Thank you all. a memorable evening.

It's a tight restaurant which didn't help. Chairs were small and uncomfortable. The only reason I'll come back is for the food.

Avoid. Booked upstairs but sent downstairs - where a table of 12 made talking at our table impossible. Food took forever and we were told thats ‘because we have deliveroo orders’. Unbelievable. Worst dining experience in years

Bardzo Dobre Włoskie Jedzenie... Bardzo polecam, prawdziwa przepyszna pizza Capricciosa... SUPER!!! Byliśmy w siedem osób i wszyscy wyszliśmy najedzeni i napici...;) Wyśmienita pasta. Bardzo miła i rodzinna atmosfera, wspaniała obsługa. Umiarkowane (dobre) ceny, naprawdę warto będąc w Notting Hill wygrać to miejsce na chwilę wypoczynku przy pysznym posiłku. POLECAM !!!

My sister booked a table for the four of us at Osteria Basilico and my partner was really pleased, as she had eaten there 4-5 years ago and had fond memories. However. I am afraid we were all so disappointed with the service in every respect. We hardly received a welcome when we arrived. The staff seemed to resent us being in their restaurant. Non of them smiled once and generally seemed very arrogant and disinterested in the four of us. We had to keep calling a waiter when we needed anything. Italian restaurants are normally an enjoyable experience! The food was okay, but we will not be returning.

We have been going to this restaurant for nearly 20 years and the owners have obviously moved back to Italy . The waiter who took our order today messed up 2 out of four of our orders and when my wife asked what happened , he rolled his eyes like a child and didn’t want to help . Eventually they changed one dish . Service terrible . Avoid .
