Sadly, when we got here it has been closed permanently. We really enjoyed our many meals here. It always seemed busy and the food was so different, varied and tasty. I hope that some other good restaurant will open here.

Excellent range of small plates. Everything we had was top quality and reasonably priced. There are plenty of much more expensive tasting menus that are not as good as this. Whoever thought of combining donnuts with pulled pork was having a good day!

Let's just say our recent visit to Osso was more "Sopranos" than "spaghetti night." We rolled in fifteen minutes late, fashionably tardy as always, only to be greeted by the manageress with an icy stare that could curdle milk. Her delightful opening line? "I was just about to give your table away!" Thanks for the warm welcome, love, especially since the entire restaurant seemed to be eavesdropping. Moving on, we bravely ventured into the lion's den and inquired about kid-friendly options. The waitress, bless her heart, relayed the message to the manageress, who then returned with the culinary equivalent of a stone tablet: "We only do what's on the menu." Apparently, at Osso, creativity and whimsy haven't been invented yet. Faced with a menu as rigid as the manageress's smile, and frankly, not wanting to test their patience further by asking for gluten-free air, we decided to cut our losses and make a dramatic exit worthy of a daytime soap opera. So, would we recommend Osso? Well, if you enjoy your meals served with a side of judgement and a main course of inflexibility, then this is your place. For the rest of us, maybe try your luck elsewhere. Just don't be late, they might send the pigeons after you.

Stopped off in Peebles whilst on a weekend away in the Borders and stumbled across Osso when walking through the town. The tapas-style menu was very appealing, indeed, with some great sounding dishes featured. The menu was presented to us by a gentleman who was incredibly welcoming and polite. His service was outstanding. (I think his name was Paul). We decided to have the soup and sandwich (half and half) dish for lunch. The soup (cream of cauliflower and cheddar) was delicious, homemade and packed with flavour. The sandwich was fantastic, lightly toasted, fresh bread with a super filling (bacon, cheese and chilli jam). The cafetière of coffee was excellent. Behind the bar, I noticed some great looking wines. All-in-all, based on our experience I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Well done Team Osso. 👍🏻👏🏻

Popped in for lunch and plenty of evidence of happy faces eating delicious food. Had a multitude of dishes including the whipped tofu, tempura broccoli, Korean cauliflower, cured trout and a delightful stem ginger desert. I have to say that every bit was utterly delicious. My wife previously booked a table for staff night out and was not disappointed. I enjoyed the food so much I’m booking again for a night out. Well worth a visit. The whipped Tofu is to die for…

The style is tapas with Mediterranean/Oriental flavours. Might seem fancy but it is the ideal way to serve this food. All the dishes are so tasty, fresh and well balanced, that you want to try as many as possible...so tapas is ideal. Every dish is distinct but no dish clashes with any other. The menu is executed superbly. This is not just the best restaurant in Peebles, its the best in the Borders. So why does it not show at top in TripAdvisor. Well, the top two aren't restaurants at all, they are hotels (including one that lists Macaroni cheese with chips as a main course - that's a canteen!). They don't even show as restaurants on google.

Three of us visited “Osso” for the first time last night. What a great experience. We had a wide selection of dishes since we have eclectic tastes: meat, fish only and vegetarian. The food came piping hot, it was delicious and the size of the portions was just right. To have such a large range of dishes on the menu could cause problems, but we must have tried eight or nine of the selection and each was delightful. Well done to the chef and all of those working behind the scenes. The pudding was delicious too, and the selection of cheeses was exceptional. Because of current restrictions we could not try the wine list; at present, alcohol can be drunk only outside. However, the wines on the list looked reasonably priced and of a good quality. The two waitresses were professional, knowledgeable about the menu and they helped to make the evening a success. In short, a very good meal and we will be back quite soon.

Attempts to achieve Korean, Chinese, Indian, and European resulted in excellent produce being ruined by unnecessary spices and sauces. The Eastern influence was not well done - the pickled cucumber was vinegar only, no sugar and wrong vinegar, the bao bun was a slimy reheated mess. Everything very salty and flavours vied against each other rather than marrying together. Venison way under cooked- blue.If they concentrated on our excellent local produce, it would be an improvement.Fewer Exocet missiles to the pallet would be good.

Upon looking at the menu, I thought the price of the dishes were expensive for tapas style portions. However we ordered 7 dishes. The food arrived very quickly, portion sizes were extremely small and not at all what I expected. The quality of the food was very average with the fish dishes being massively overcooked- dry monkfish and Salmon.Cauliflower dish was the the better of the dishes but overall quantity only allowed a forkful of each dish if two were sharing.Dinner only lasted 40 mins, which also tells a story.Avoid like Corona...

Visited Osso for our first trip out post-lock down. We have been having regular take away (actually deliveries!) throughout the lock down and have really enjoyed Osso at home however it was so good to be back in one of favourite places. Each menu was individual so although not contactless the menu was not used by anyone else. All the staff were friendly and attentive, there had clearly been a lot of thought put in to making sure customers felt safe. Clear privacy screens between the tables meant you felt safe but still had a clear view of the restaurant and could hear the ambient noise - they also made you feel as though your dining experience was very private which was really niceThe new menu was excellent too - the brisket bao buns and parmesan custard were particular favorites and it was great to be able to pick lots of small dishes and share them. COVID 19 screens have been set up between tables (there is a cover charge of £1 per person for COVID-19 adaptations). The waitress was attentive and service acceptable. Attention was given to dietary restrictions. She advised that it was small-plate, tapas style. She also said price reflected portion size. The food was tasty but the portions were very small. Great flavours, can't fault the cooking of everything and we had a lovely evening. I was very dissapointed with the Venison dish which consisted of two very small discs of loin, half a parsnip and some puree with a side bowl of mince and tatties for 23 pounds. It looked like they didnt have enough so split it between myself and my husband who ordered the same. I did mention it at table check (it was the smallest venison pieces, seriously it was only fit as a starter), I said I was a little dissapointed. Was met with a shrug and the waitress walked away. First time I have felt the need to say something at this level of restaurant but needn't have bothered. Why ask if you don't care for valid feedback? My partner had the eggy bread sandwich, crispy bacon and fried organic egg for and I had the pork sausage roll. We ordered a portion of chips each, which were chunky and crispy. I think without the chips, however, we would have left quite hungry. Food is delicious but the portions do not justify the price, which I know are locally sourced and organic, pushing the price up. The sausage roll in particular was tiny and although delicious, I was disappointed by its size. Two mouthfuls and it was done. The chips saved the day. Nice as a one off treat but a little too pricey to be a regular visitor.

I popped in here on the Saturday before Christmas towards the end of lunch and, although they were busy with Christmas lunches, they found me a table just to have a coffee and scone. The service was excellent, the man at front of house was very professional but approachable. I had a wonderful cheese scone and coffees. Looking around, I would certainly like to return sometime for a meal. I would definitely recommend Osso for coffee and scone and I’m sure it will be equally as good for s proper meal

Visited here for lunch yesterday and sampled the Christmas lunch menu. There were so many interesting dishes to choose from and at a great price too. We had three courses and two glasses of wine for around £65 and the quality was outstanding. Can't wait for our next visit!! Thanks Guys

Walked in for lunch. Have been many times before and always enjoyed the food. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food as usual good. Had to change table due to a very cold wind coming from front door area. Some sort of divider here would make a difference

We had lunch one Saturday afternoon and place was busy but we managed to get a table. Service and food was excellent, we had the fish cakes and eggs benedict with smoked haddock and bacon - both were excellent. Would certainly recommend. Only negative was being charged almost £10 for glass of wine, large glass has to be said.

A group of us chose to meet here because we all have different tastes and want to eat quite different dishes. This has made it a little difficult for us to find places to meet up for lunch but at Osso, because of its very varied and eclectic menu, everyone was happy! Quite a feat. There’s everything from light bites, formal to informal, familiar to things that are unexpected. There’s also a good emphasis on local produce. The interior furnishings are somewhat functional but would pass easily from day to evening service. Service itself was friendly and competent. We enjoyed a rich venison ragout, a traditional fish and chips, tasty soups and sandwiches, spicy chicken shawarma and a range of Mediterranean dips and flat breads. The main disappointment was the quality of the flat breads which were rather tough and chewy, but salads were fresh and flavours good. Added to our list of possible group meal venues!

We were visiting Peebles from Edinburgh for a spot of shopping & as always booked Osso for lunch. The lunch options are so varied & great prices. This time we chose the chicken shawarma & the haddock leek & rarebit vol au vent with a side of tripe cooked fries. The food is really tasty & great value for money. Service is efficient from a lovely caring team. Definitely recommend but book before you go.

Having eaten in Coltmans the previous evening, we were keen to see how Osso compared. It was busy and buzzing which was what we would expect on a Friday night. I chose a tasty salmon starter with wasabi and some Halibut to follow. My companion ordered scallops which he enjoyed followed by the halibut. It was cooked to a high standard and served with colourful and capably cooked vegetables. For dessert, I elected to have coffee with some miso fudge, while my partner selected ice-cream. Again, it was perfectly fine if a little forgettable. The miso fudge however was not at all pleasant - obviously an acquired taste which I have yet to acquire. The service was very pleasant despite being almost full capacity. We probably made the wrong meal choices that evening, but it was still a most enjoyable evening.

I had the opportunity to revisit Peebles and I ensured that made a reservation for dinner at Osso, so impressed was I, a couple of years ago, by the super cafe vibe and clear evidence for a love of food.

Had dinner here last Friday - excellent food, as good as you would get any where- lovely amuse bouche, plenty of home made bread, excellent starter followed by fish main, a beer, 250 ml glass of wine and a coffee - all for £40. Really good value for the quality - why wasn't it full!

We had a lovely dinner at Osso - Halibut filet with truffled mash & wild mushrooms. The service, ambience and food were excellent. We found the restaurant through viamichelin.com where Osso is listed as a "Bib Gourmand" The Bib Gourmand spotlights restaurants that serve “high-quality meals which include two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less. We highly recommend!!

We walked in on a Friday night, no booking and were in luck. Our host was welcoming and friendly. We were told immediately that the menu was restricted as they had only one chef. But he was a great chef. We told them we were off to the Eastgate Theatre - show at 7.30pm- no problem! We were given a wee bowl of salty popcorn as we chose our dishes then bread (no charge). I had a fantastic stater of monkfish tails in such a light breaded coating and a glorious sauce - one of the best stares I have ever had. My partner had a delicious and light cod dish with Goan sauce and fragrant rice and I had a slow cooked brisket of beef in a rich sauce with wilted green and onions. Such a good experience and we need to go back when we have time for dessert!

On our way to do some hill walking we stopped for breakfast in Peebles. Oslo was the first little cafe we saw, the front of the restaurant does not give you a clue to the inside which is larger than first impressions. The menu outside was enticing and we were greeted and welcomed. Service was quick and the food came without us having to wait longer than necessary to cook it. We had a lovely bacon and black pudding sandwich. The bacon was cooked beautifully as we had requested it, the black pudding was thicker than I would normally eat it but it was also very good. The Americano was very strong which is excellent I think filter coffee is also available. The toilets were spotless.

We organised a dinner for two and our family joined us. The restaurant accommodated us at short notice. The food was absolutely divine. The specials menu was packed with flavours. The wine selection was also fab and reasonably priced. Sauvignon blanc from Chile was our favourite wine. The venison was delicious and paired with mince and tatties. A party in my mouth. Everything worked beautifully together. Highly recommend it for a visit if South of Edinburgh. The gentleman who looked after us was very polite. We had a great meal night before the wedding. X

I wrote a review about my experience at the weekend. However i felt it was a little curt and harsh as it’s a place we love so much. A review written in disappointment. So wanted to put across a more balanced opinion. The 5 star rating is for the food and the usually fabulous service. I don’t want to sour the restaurants reputation on a, hopefully, one off experience.

Been coming to this restaurant for years always found it fabulous. Had an early reservation on Saturday night while staying near by. Wrong food was brought to my table. Was delicious but not what I ordered. Decided to accept it and just get on with it rather than cause a scene. Sirloin I had instead of the lamb I ordered was great but would have much preferred my lamb. Have always found the food and service here fantastic. Found the gentleman serving on Saturday evening was confused, arrogant and inept and not in keeping with the place we have come to love so much. This was when the place was not busy. Either a poor substitute to the usual staff or a very poor new start.....

They were busy so not the quickest service but coped with seven of us (took a deposit when booking) interesting menu with specials. Interesting soups clearly home made. The monkfish with Goan sauce was unusual but very nice. The breads and dips as a vegetarian main or starter were in a wide variety of interesting tastes. Mid priced. Parking off edinburgh road from which one can walk fifty yards to the restaurant free Monday to Friday.

We were spending the day down in the borders and decided to stop off in Peebles where we found Osso which doesn’t look much from the outside - but is “ tardis like “ inside ! The staff were welcoming , helpful and knowledgeable about everything on the menu ! It has a Mediterranean style to it menu mixed with loads of Scottish favourites like black pudding . We enjoyed the tomato and basil soup then a portion of flat breads with various dips to share the sourdough pancakes with crispy local bacon and maple syrup - absolutely great , wash down with a broughtons pale ale and a lemonade. We definitely recommend you try it and we intend to come back for an evening visit to sample their dinner menu!

One of us has a severe nut allergy and I'm vegan, and they couldn't have done more to accommodate us - lots of really creative options to choose from, and all very reasonably priced for what you get. Couldn't recommend it enough and looking forward to coming back again soon!

A weekend away in the Scottish Borders led to us unexpectedly finding this wonderful restaurant in the Yarrow Valley today. It was one of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in years (delicious local beef and pork) and a seriously tempting menu focussed around local ingredients by Bryn Jones. The honey cake for dessert by @she.likesbaking was also incredible and I’ve only just realised that Oxana Jones is not only a wonderful front-of-house host, but also an extremely talented baker. Thank you to your team, it was a memorable lunch and we’ll definitely be back for one of your tasting menus and an overnight stay.
