This former pub turned Caribbean restaurant has a way to go. The good was quite good (goat curry and jerk pork, with an excellent Red Stripe). But the environment was grim. Sticking a few Jamaican posters on the wall doesn’t turn an 80s pub into somewhere tropical while leaving a mop and bucket in full view of diners isn’t a good look. And ditch the plastic roses on the table! Service was ok but the staff are clearly inexperienced. Loud reggae didn’t hide the fact that the place was almost empty. A shame - it has real potential and Merthyr needs a new “kitchen”.

Excellent food had fish chips and mushy peas all very nice too much for me to finish too. Two cups of decent tea as well all for £12. I’m not local but just popped in as it was lunchtime glad I did , place seemed busy but staff were all friendly and on top of things. I’ve noticed that the Tripadvisor description notes this place as closed? I’ve tried adding a new place so if it works I’ll do the review again. Anyway thank you . Great food and hope to visit again sometime

Agonised over whether to go or not considering the shakey reviews. Decided to go in the end. There were about 10 starters and about 2 mains on offer. All of the ones I tried were tasty and fresh. They may not have been finest cuisine but I’ve had far worse takeaways from other places. My partner is vegetarian and the lady behind the counter was very open to us having a look at their selection before sitting down to commit. Good bits: Food was nice. Not the best but far from the worst. There was a decent selection including some more anglicised options (chips) etc for those who want to indulge. Staff behind the bar were friendly, the place was clean and there as no queue The bad bits: The lady tasked with filling up the buffet trays had the manners you associate with American Black Friday shoppers. The deserts were extremely disappointing in terms of taste and range And fundamentally the price. It’s £21 per head on a Friday evening, glass of coke was £3.30. Clearly some heavy profiteering If you go in with your eyes open about the prices vs range, you won’t leave hungry
