We went as a party of 19 for Sunday Lunch. Staff in both the restaurant and the bar/lounge area were really welcoming, friendly and very accomodating. Food was 3 courses, choice of starters and deserts. Main course was a carvery - very good selection of beef, pork, turkey and even battered fish. The beef was particularly excellent. Very good value for money at £12.95 for 3 courses (half price for children and unders 5s eat free). It was all help yourself and there's no drinks table service - you have to go to the bar just through in the lounge but this isn't an issue. Plenty of water available too. Plates were cleared away quickly and efficiently. This lunch was a perfect Sunday carvery - relaxed and friendly. If you're looking for a fancy restaurant, this isn't for you, but it's great value in a hotel right near to the beach. We sat in the garden area with coffees after lunch and it was lovely.

Oscar's is housed in the Royal Bath Hotel. This must have been a wonderful hotel in the days of Oscar Wilde who visited but now the glory days are over. It needs a wealthy person from Dubai to spend millions on a refurbishment and restore it to its former glory. And for that matter all of the gorgeous Victorian/Edwardian architecture in Bournemouth. What has happened to this town it use to be a heavenly, elegeant place to visit.

We thought we had booked Sunday lunch at Oscar's Restaurant but it was closed and we were directed to Oscar's Brasserie. We could not believe it when they asked us to pay up front. When my husband said we would like some wine he was told he would have to get it from the bar in the next room and bring it to the table himself. The self-service starter was either soup or pate. No salad or anything to go with it. On the small hot counter they had veggie burgers and two types of meat in gravy (no clue as to what they were) and a chef carving beef. I have to admit the beef was really tasty. They then had 3 trays - one with Yorkshires, one with roast potatoes and one with overcooked cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. The vegetables were luke warm so I left mine. For dessert there was the choice of fruit crumble and custard and three cheesecake type desserts which looked as if they had been frozen. We will definitely not be going back.

This was so filthy and utterly disgusting! the food was foul and inedible! when pointed out the manager he was threatening and scary!! My wife and I ate our Friday evening dinner at Oscar's, having arrived at the Royal Bath that afternoon and being too lazy to find an external venue. We were very pleasntly surprised. The decor, while traditional, is much fresher than the rest of the hotel. Service was quick and attentive. There was a choice of set menu or a la carte and the set menu offered really good value. There were several choices for each of the three courses. We trusted the fish for starters and main course and found it fresh and well presented. The set menu included a bottle of house wine and this proved to be an acceptable Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Dining at Oscar's was definately the highlight of an otherwise disappointing stay. It wasn't fine dining but it was certainly very good value hotel dining.

We initially spoke to the receptionist & asked to a manager about the matter, at first he was supposed to be busy, we asked the receptionist if he could call us back for a explanation, numerous calls later it seems he is still to busy to talk to us (obviously trying to avoid discussing the situation with us) very poor service from a supposed top hotel in Bournemouth...

While spending the weekend in Bourenemouth, we decided on the off-chance to call here for an evening meal. We could have opted for the buffet but chose the table dhote menu in the restaurant instead and were not disappointed. The 3 course meal was very reasonably priced and included a good quality bottle of wine. The menu itself had a good range of options and the quality was first class. I recommend the rib eye steak. Cooked to perfection. The salmon was succulent and accompanied by a good selection of veg.The deserts were likewise very good. I recommend the apple tart (which was surprisingly light) accompanied by vanilla ice cream infused with delicate slithers of chocolate. But perhaps most noticeable of all was the quality of the service. The waiter, Victor, was most attentive without being intrusive, and his amiable personality and attention to the needs of his customers are to be complimented. He is a great asset to the restaurant. Thank you so much.We will most certainly dine here again....soon, I hope.

There is a saying "you get what you pay for" Sunday lunch advertised 3 courses for £9.95. As it was a bank holiday we decided to try it. I pre booked in advance. On entering I said we had a reservation. They did not ask our name as they were only interested in asking us to pay. Pay when we had not even had anything. I said we wanted drinks so would pay at the end. So glad we did not pay in advance. They Showed us to our seats and asked us if we wanted a drink. It would have been nice to have sat down first and showed the wine list. So we ordered our wine and sat and we sat and we sat ! Eventually the wine arrived with apologies in tow. And the bill for the food and wine we had not even had. I fully understood eventually why there was so much pressure to pay in advance. We made our way to the buffet if that is what you could have called it. Starter was either a very odd looking roulade or pate. Bread in a basket and soup over the other side. We plummed for the tasteless pate. Main course was beef which was so rare I would not have touched it. Other choice was a pasta and what I think was a fish dish which was in a heated tray. Selection of vegetables poor. No one to carve the meat the chef had disappeared. No one to request for the beef to go back and be cooked more. Absolutely no idea at all. I asked one of the waitresses where is the chef she said she would get him. Waiting seems to be the thing at this place. Enough is enough we left without finishing our bottle of wine and not having Sunday lunch. I flatly refuse to pay for dreadful service and food that is below standard. I dont' care that you offered 3 courses for £9.95 that does not give you the right to serve dreadful food and give poor service. Oh and by the way folks dessert was either profiteroles or chocolate cake. Enjoy ! Glad we did not bow to pressure of paying up front. We ended up going to The Crab Restaurant. Lucky for us because of our sad tale of not having had lunch they let us in without a booking which is not the norm for them. No booking you cannot get in!

At £40 for two three course dinners, including a passable bottle of chardonnay, this restaurant is well worth considering when dinning in Bournemouth. There is a pleasant ambience while proper crisp linen table clothes and napkins add to the experience. The pulled pork terrine with piccalilli and a huge prawn cocktail were very good. It would have been five out of five but the wild mushroom risotto filling didn't really taste of much when expecting a "woodland" scented porcine; perhaps because of too much cayenne in the sauce. Otherwise, for three courses, it was excellent value. The melt in the mouth pastry of their raspberry slice, highly recommended!

Very good restaurant and I think this has been recently decorated. A severe lack of staff though which really needs attending to. We had a wonderful meal but I ended up feeling rather sorry for the waiter who was running around attending to everything and consequently the food was very slow indeed. Given the prices, this should be attended to as ultimately it is potentially a large revenue stream for the establishment not to mention it is a signature restaurant of the building. That said, the waiter was particularly friendly and very knowledgeable and helpful about the menu. When the food arrives, it was hot and very good quality. I would certainly visit this restaurant again but please take my criticism constructively and get some more staff who can help each other rather than guests having to go to the other restaurant to find someone!

We arrived to discover that there had been 'no deliveries' so half the menu (which we had looked at the day before) was missing and many of the items were at an extra cost. Prawns in the cocktail were tasteless and chewy and served roughly on iceberg lettuce - dreadful. The other starter was a slab of goats cheese on a bit of french bread and toasted - tasted alright but very basic. One main meal was breaded pork (not too bad) served with roast potatoes (clearly either frozen or re-heated from earlier) and a mess of chopped tomato - was it supposed to be a sort of ratatouille? No other vegetables or garnish. The other main meal was the sirloin steak - at extra cost - chosen because of the limited menu. The steak was inedible and was served with an obscene amount of chips and some burnt mushrooms. Our desserts were commercially made. We complained and discovered that 'the chef was ill' and the dinner 'made' (thrown together) by the sous-chef. All in all truly dreadful - what a waste of an evening.

We ate at Oscars as part of a family celebration. The dinning room itself is lovely and very comfortable. However, the food a joke. The salmon starter consisted of a slice or two of reasonable quality smoked salmon and a rubbery pink disc of what appeared to be liver sausage, on tasting turned out to be a salmon sausage. This was accompanied by some only just fresh rocket a cherry tomato cut in two halves and a thick wedge of lemon. We had to ask for dressing as the dish was so dry and unpalatable . The rib eye steak had good flavour and was tender but I think it had received a fair bashing with the tenderising mallet before hand. This was served with a grilled tomato and some nice chips and a peppercorn sauce which had a good taste. The desert however was a travesty, the apple and chocolate tarts were served in what looked like bought in pre-made small, dry, pie cases, the chocolate tart was too hard to cut and when my dinning partner finally resorted to pick it up and bite it was still unrelenting, a new desert was bought in it's place, a chocolate gateau, again was try and tasteless. The young waiting staff were charming but the senior staff member was aloof, snooty and disinterested. I found it strange that our bottles of wine were placed in an ice bucket at the far end of the table and we had to get up and serve ourselves throughout the evening despite the dinning room being virtually empty and a full complement of staff. What a shame this could be a thriving restaurant as we certainly enjoyed the décor and the ambience. Why is the menu, it's flavour and presentation still stuck in the late 70's early 80's? I noticed with interest a lot of other comments on trip advisor all virtually mirroring our comments yet, there is no attempt from hotel managements to respond to these reviews or quite clearly take any steps to improve their product. The members of my party are all local business owners and we thought it was a shame that such a lovely restaurant was so underutilised.

My mum and I wanted a quick meal before we went to the theatre so called in here for a bar meal. The bar menu is pretty basic, but as we were after something quick thought it would do. The service was ok, staff were polite enough, but I'm surprised that the kitchen can't even manage to get a jacket potato with cheese or beef & horseradish sandwich spot on. The potato was luke warm at best & had no butter. The horseradish was missing from the sandwich, which had no butter so consisted of bread & 1 slice of beef. In fairness the beef was tasty, and the waitress did bring butter & horseradish when asked. Also no salt & pepper until requested. Would not go back & have no desire to try the restaurant given the lack of effort put into a basic snack! I can only assume this chain company does not inspire its staff to do a good job & encourage custom.

The service was a little slow at times, but this was only because the resturant and the hotel are critically understaffed. Both of our servers that night were friendly, welcoming and knowledgable about the menu. First of all, this review is about Oscars Restaurant at Royal Bath Hotel, not the buffet style self service restaurant also at the Hotel, that people are wrongly reviewing. This is the elegant restaurant at the Hotel. We stayed at the Royal Bath on Saturday March 29th.Initially, we planned to eat at Chimichangers Mexican opposite the Hotel, as I'd heard bad reviews about the Hotel food, but we couldn't get a table there, so decided to eat in Oscars Restaurant, after all.We needn't have worried, the food was very nice and the service was excellent.Oscars was candlelit, and we had a table near the window. The Waiter was very nice and worked really hard, as there was only him working in the Restaurant. We chose the 3 courses for £30, and all three courses were nice, Mackarel Pâté for starter, Chicken Chausseur for main, followed by Cheese & Biscuits. You still get the bread roll to start with, and a glass of water, and can order drinks to the table. We were even asked if we wanted to wait a little while for the 3rd course, in case we were full, a nice touch. The Restaurant looks classy and the food lived up to the elegance.I would definitely eat here again, if I ever stay at Royal Bath again.

We have stopped eating here the food got worse as did the service, this year we saw advertised a new whiskey snug, in the mood for a relaxing evening we thought we would try it. Upon arrival we looked for it but had to ask for a little direction which we were given. Directed through the main lounge we asked the barman where to go and he happily replied it is here. There is no snug there is no seperate areas and when we asked him about single malt whiskeys the barman recommended Bells! Needless to say we did not stay not will we return.

I'm embarrased about writing another bad review for a Bournemouth venue but as a hotelier myself I'm also embarassed that far-travelled Australian and American guests staying or visiting this grand looking old hotel will go home thinking that all English Afternoon Teas are this bad. Come on now! stop microwaving the scones -they can easily be kept warm and crisp in a conventional oven, very tight fisted with the clotted cream yet offered mounds of jam; no hot water jug with the tea and a microscopic quantity of milk for the 3 of us (are dairy farmers being paid the same as black truffle producers?). If you have to charge a bit more do, but please make it worthy of your Hotel's long standing reputation. (We were intending to go to the Cottonwood Boutique Hotel but were afraid our parking ticket would run out-perhaps next visit).

Went for afternoon tea for a family birthday celebration. The food was presented on long plates rather than traditional tiered trays. The quantity of sandwiches was meagre and we'd requested a vegetarian option for one guest which wasn't properly catered for. There were scones which were actually very nice but the cakes provided were really disappointing. No little pastries or delicate bite sized cakes, instead we had slices of chocolate or black forest gateaux which tasted like cheap gateaux from Costco. However it was the service that was truly appalling. Waiters were distant and absent minded. Everything we asked for was forgotten and we had to ask more times than was reasonable for a cup of coffee that in the end just never came. The bar manager was rude and one member of staff was talking to himself about 'when could he retire from this place' behind the bar whilst I was waiting to pay. Overall a shocking afternoon tea for £13.50. I can think of numerous places in Bournemouth where you could get a much higher quality experience for a cheaper price. Don't go!!

I stayed at the royal bath with my partner, I wanted to go to the Oscar restaurant rather than the brasserie, as it looked pretty and romantic. My partner was happy with his cod and chips, a little disappointed with the £7 prawn salad , expected more for the price.I chose mushroom risotto, it was the worst risotto I have ever tasted, it was bland, no stock used to cook it, just taste like boiled water was used, the texture was all wrong, I said to the staff it was horrible, and I couldn't eat it ( I have never returned a dish before) I then chose steak, it was £23 for the thinnest and fattest piece of steak I've had... I didn't have it in me to complain again but the food was extremely poor and disappointing. I would have had a nicer piece of steak in a generic pub steak sandwich, maybe he gave me a dodgy steak cause I complained about the risotto or maybe it's all that bad?!!!

This place does not live up to its wonderful name. Perhaps the chef was having an 'off' day! If so, then the manager should have a word. Little wonder this place has slipped down the scales.

Other than the waitress giving our meal away so that I had to choose something else, what can I say? Some of the waiting staff were competant & polite. The breakfast was good. The Groupon offering was poor & small and the house red wine wasn't great.

this is our favourite restaurant in bournemouth very romantic excellent service and wonderful food, a few years back the food and especially the service was awful. thankfully they have a new maitre *d who has completely changed things around and i presume new chefs we are going there for our 30th wedding anniversary and i have noticed the hotel group has been taken over im just hoping the staff are still there

Firstly, this is a reasonably priced, well run restaurant with excellent food, nicely presented and sufficiently attentive to justify the price. However, I found the experience awkward and somewhat embarrassing by the rather abrupt manner of the Maitre D. The bill was presented - albeit with additional items added (service perhaps?) - plus a line for gratuity, which I added. I was then informed that the gratuity would go to the hotel, and that he would not get it back. Leaving an awkward silence that I presume he hoped I would pull out some cash and reward him personally.I disliked this and felt that I was somehow responsible for the rather odd commercial relationship they share with the hotel.A strange choice to front such an otherwise "top notch" restaurant!

The food was really nice. I had a duck salad starter which came with NO salad. Just a little watercress and cold chips!I did mention this and was asked if I would like more duck to make up for it. The waiting staff were most helpful.I had a turbot main couse which was excellent. We did not have puddings, but did have the selection of local cheese which was very very nice.

A fabulous restaurant in the Royal Bath that should be packed - but on the 4 or 5 occasions I have ate there was practically empty. Excellent food, served by attentive and smart staff at a reasonable price.

I been there with two friends for dinner. The service was nice, we got lovely bread with butter and oil&vinegar. We decided us for just 2-courses. Of course we had different dishes. I mean its just boring for the chef, if he have just the same ones. We enjoyed our dinner, and the food was very nice.

Great set menu, candlelight meal and very attentive service. Menu was well priced but we found drinks were extremely expensive charging £10.50 for a glass of Pinot griggio. Not very busy on a Wednesday night but not bothered about this as we had a 3 course meal in 1 hour without feeling rushed. Nice place to visit.

We had our anniversary dinner at this restaurant. The staff welcomed us and took us to nicely laid table. The menu had a very good selection. You can opt for 2 or 3 course menu. To be honest we were very full after our starter and main but we could not resist trying one of the deserts. It is good value for such a high quality of food. We cannot fault anything and we will definitely be back.

We dined here as part of our hotel package and the food was absolutely amazing, an experience which we just didn't want to end. The staff were attentive and excellent. The front of house made us feel very welcome and the ambience of the restaurant was excellent. The set menu is excellent value for money at 19.95 for 2 courses and 3 courses for £25. Definately recommend to anyone and really made our stay at the hotel an excellent experience. Will definately be back when I'm in the area.

My son and I went for coffee and cake today. Never again! The lady who served us was full of cold, coughing, sneezing and wiping her nose on the back of her hand whilst preparing our coffee it really put us off - basic hygiene surely means you don't serve food/drink with a streaming cold!?! I then visited the loo and it was like going to the toilet in a third world country. Absolutely rank! Stinky and really unpleasant all round. Starbucks you should be ashamed - you let the brand down massively! Was the coffee good? Probably but didn't really notice tbh!

I hope I could rate it zero . Very rude guy takes the order and doesn’t speak English. The shake was disgusting.

I don't opt for fish and chips very often as a takeaway option, but the vegan fish caught my eye and encouraged me to order. I have to say, super impressed with the vegan fish. Yes, it was a little oily, but that was just what I needed! Portion of chips was incredible, huge portion😅 My friend and I think we should have shared a portion instead of getting one each, but hey we've realised that now! I'll be ordering again when I need some proper British food vibes.

The smallest single scoop of ice cream I’ve ever been given. I complained and was told that it was full inside which I could feel wasn’t true. I didn’t want to argue but will never use them again.
