I recently enjoyed a fabulous afternoon tea experience with my friend, and it was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a beautifully decorated setting that immediately set the tone for a delightful afternoon.

I loved every bit of my experience at Cafe Royal. First of all, the atmosphere is lovely and fancy. You really feel transformed while inside the Grill Room. Truth be told, this is my second time doing afternoon tea in London but it was the better of the two I did. The reason is because the staff were not only attentive but also knowledgeable. The lady that helped us would smell the lid and know what tea I was drinking. She just seemed more vested in hearing your tea preferences and then making a recommendation. Maybe this is rather touristy move, but the staff always offer to take pictures for the guests when the pastries come out. I think that’s a nice touch and as a tourist myself, I appreciated that. The gentleman playing the piano was good and puts everything in the mood. I loved all of the food but the highlight for me is the earl grey jelly with the scones. If only I can buy the earl grey jelly! (Someone tell me if I can please!) I love all things earl grey and I love this so much. I also liked that they gave an extra slice of cake and coffee. Honestly, if you think you won’t be full with the amount of food, you’d be wrong. We were SO stuffed and had to take food with us. Honestly, I would go back when I go to London again! Highly recommend.

We have visited the Grill Room a few times for afternoon tea and it never disappoints. Unlike many places, the menu here is updated regularly so there are always new treats to discover. We visited for a 85th birthday and as ever, the staff were really friendly and welcoming, encouraging us to try different teas. The food was exceptional, the curried chicken on charcoal bread was my favourite but all of the sweet and savoury treats were perfection. The setting is elegant and it's always nice to know which of the famous past patrons sat at your table (we were at Winston Churchill's table and were drinking his favourite smoky lapsang souchong tea!). Many thanks to all the team at the Grill Room for another wonderful visit, and we will be back again soon.

Splendid. Luxurious. Indulgence. I have scheduled our tea session later during the day and I thought it was the best decision! We all have the saloon to ourselves!!! But what a lovely hostess we had, she’s informative about our tea selections and the whole process. The spectacular sandwiches and desserts are to die for!!! Amazing! Lovely lovely. Definitely exceeded my expectations!

My wife and I attended Cafe Royal for Afternoon Tea in the Grill Room last weekend and having previously visited a number of similar high end offerings in London (Fortnum & Mason, The Ritz, Claridge’s, etc) I have to say that the service here was the best we’ve experienced. A special mention must go to David, Gift and Emerson who served us so attentively during our visit. The room itself is absolutely beautiful with it's ornate decoration and the live pianist is always a nice touch. The food was also incredible. We chose the standard menu (there was also a vegetarian option) with the usual finger sandwiches, plain and sultana scones with clotted cream and jam (including a lovely Earl Grey Jam the chef had created), followed by the stunningly made sweets. Careful attention had also been paid to my slight nut allergy and David explained fully which desserts had been made specifically for me. It was also appreciated that we were told right up front that we could order extra of any of the food items, as this isn’t always explicitly stated at other establishments and leaves you wondering if you can ask for more, if you’re still hungry. We were also told that we could change our tea at any point for another offering and we never had to wait for our cups to be refilled, or for a new warm pot to be brought if the last one had cooled. If I was being really nit-picky, the only slight downside is that the tables and chairs are quite low. At 6’1”, this did make for a slightly uncomfortable sit at first, until I got myself in to position, but my 5’1” wife obviously had no issue. That aside, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely return.

We visited as a special birthday treat for my wife’s birthday celebration. We arrived early, got asked to wait for a few minutes in the Library and then got escorted to our table. It was fairly busy and the room benefited from the amazing mirror arrangement all around. The piano player lead a special birthday treat and it was a lovely touch. The food was outstanding and the quality amazing. We got offered a refill of the sandwiches, which were fantastic and delicious. Great person touch was that all staff we came across in the restaurant wished my wife a happy birthday! Made her feel very well looked after.

Elegant atmosphere, attentive and professional service and delicious and imaginative sandwiches, scones and cakes. The Van Gogh cakes were a work of art. The tea was wonderful with an immense selection. Some in our group had the special Starry Night tea which turned a different color (purple) when adding lemon. I chose chocolate tea and it was an unusual and totally unexpected treat. This was the best overall tea experience I have had in several countries. Truly first rate and memorable. I am already slating it in on my next trip to London.

Not only was the afternoon tea one of the best I ever had, the staff and our waiter Jozsef were incredibly kind. Jozsef kept me company while I waited for my friend and showed genuine interest in us as his guests. The decor was breath taking and I loved how they showed you what celebrity sat at your table once upon a time. Props to the very skilled pianist who played beautifully. I am an afternoon tea hobbyist and have been to the best (Rosewood, Ritz, Fortnum & Mason, Sketch...) and I have to say the Van Gough afternoon tea at the Oscar Wilde Lounge blows all these others away. From the decedent surroundings, the amazing service to the deliciously fresh and flavorful sandwiches and scones. Of course the pièce de résistance being the miniature art works of decadent and delicious cakes that replicate Van Gough's Starry Night, Self portrait and Sunflowers The whole experience is a delight from beginning to end, from the magic tea (changes colors) to the Sunflower tea (divinely delicate in favor) all topped of with impeccable service by Jozsef who made sure I didn't feel like a numpty for dining alone and was always there to assist no matter how busy he got. I could not recommend this place enough. I will be back the next time I'm in London (can't wait to see what the next theme is).

Afternoon teaBooked this for my birthday for 4. The service was abysmal. At around 60 each, I expected a lot more. I fed this back and was told it was due to the pandemic- my response: learn from The Ritz. I went there last year and the service was outstanding. This was mediocre at a push. When we left, there were only 2 waiting staff on a packed restaurant. Just not good enough.

I'd wanted to go for afternoon tea here for some time so after visiting the van gogh exhibition, it seemed the perfect opportunity to enjoy the themed afternoon tea afterwards, but for £88 pp, the experience was extremely disappointing. We were brought water without being asked and then charged £6.50 for the bottle. We waited 1/2 an hour to receive the tea, champagne and sandwiches and we'd been there 1 1/2 hours before our cakes arrived. We weren't offered any further drinks and had to ask for more tea (twice - as it didn't arrive after the first ask!) as ours went cold as we'd been there for so long. The staff seemed genuinely confused and one individual was clearly stressed and dishevelled. We then had to ask for the bill 3 times and received grumpy responses each time but after 3 hours, it is quite reasonable to want to leave! When we finally received it, we were asked to check that the waiter was correctly splitting the bill expecting us to use the calculators on our phones for him.We didn't take it personally as a number of other tables seemed to have the same issue but it doesn't make it ok. Especially as afternoon tea can be prepped in advance and the room was not full. There may well have been a crisis going on but at no point were we offered an apology or anything complementary to make up for what felt like us being ignored and as though we were an inconvenience to the team.We were polite and patient throughout but felt very disappointed with the experience as we have been to many afternoon teas across London hotels and for £176 for 2 people I think it's reasonable to expect polite and attentive staff. It really was such a shame as the food was lovely.

Afternoon tea in the Oscar Wilde Lounge. Well the place looks flamboyant enough to earn that name. You certainly get the feeling of indulgence when you walk in. Service as you would expect is top notch and the live music from the piano set the scene very nicely.I decided to afternoon tea here as they were having a Van Gogh theme to coincide with the Van Gogh immersive experience exhibitions that was ongoing. There are 2, so I’m uncertain which one they partnered with. There was a choice of teas and I went with the Starry Night Tea. Now what I wasn’t expecting was the tea to be blue when it came. It came with some lemon juice, which when added turned the tea purple. It was such fun. Be careful though. I was too carried away and added far too much lemon juice. I actually really enjoyed the flavour of the tea without the lemon. Now we get onto the food. 2 little starters and 4 types of sandwiches. That little tartlet was a real beauty. Packed a real punch in a mouthful. I could easily have 3 more. The sandwiches were all good? I particularly enjoyed the one with crab, but my mind was still occupied by the tart. This was very promising for the rest of the afternoon. The sweets alas were not quite as stellar. They all looks pretty as a picture, a Van Gogh picture, but I would have to say it was a little style over substance. The starry night, only just able held it’s form, with the mousse being a bit soft. The flavours were not quite as exciting as it looked. The sunflower & self-portrait though so exquisite to look at, didn’t eat as well. The base of the sunflower was so thick, it was impossible to get either my fork or knife into it. Flavour wise it had a nice chocolatey taste. The self-portrait had a lovely crunchy layer, and a nice chocolatey flavour. Wait, did I already use that description? If it hadn’t been billed as having a coffee flavour, I would have been perfectly happy with it, but if it’s meant to taste of coffee, that was lost to me.The scones to finish it off were nicely baked, but by this point I was too full to really enjoy it.

I have to say the sandwiches look so depressing and so little....we asked for top up (it says on the website unlimited top up) we got 3 pieces extra not even the one we wanted we had to asked again and again....from 13.50(40 minutes before our time was up) they try to sort out the table and kind of pushed us out then a very nice guy came and say shall I serve you with your bill that was 14.00(2 pm) then I was a bit uncomfortable and say we have our table for another half an hour he then said oh sorry I thought is 2pm !!!! any way after that I didn't really enjoyed as much as I wanted and I told him that he is the second person that came to our table to ask us to leave and is not nice, the price is so high and is only for beautiful art design on pastries and beautiful ambiance .. Level of art put into the food was good but there wasn’t much filling in the sandwiches in fact it was hard to find any, just as well the bread was good! Cheesecake good, service poor, staff didn’t replenish water and forgot about my second tea order, had to remind them after 20 minutes. Too long a speech about the food to each table instead of checking the needs of the customers even though the staff were friendly just not on the ball when more tables filled up. We were accommodated earlier than table booked which was good of staff. Wouldn’t go back sadly.

We visited the Oscar Wilde Lounge in August for afternoon tea for a review that I was doing for my client of some quirky London venues. This place is stunning, really beautiful and decadent, There were only about four people in at the time we went, but they still had a live pianist and the atmosphere was so relaxed. The staff was excellent and very attentive, and one lady showed us around so we could see the Green Bar where we were due to come later in the day to see some live music, The afternoon tea was beautifully presented and delicious, they catered perfectly for both of us, one vegan and one vegetarian, In addition, we had several cocktails with our afternoon tea, and they very generously gave us these on the house. Lovely place and will most certainly come here again when I am next in London, it is a really luxurious experience.

I've done a lot of afternoon teas in London, and this one is my very favourite. We went today to celebrate my birthday - and I didn't realise that it was also the first day they're doing the new Van Gogh tea menu, which was lovely. The room dates back to the mid-1800's, and is covered in shades of gold and red and green. There was a live pianist. It's a truly iconic place to have tea. All of the food was excellent - and the pastries were insane: beautiful and delicious. A highlight was the Earl Grey jelly - I think I could eat it by the spoonful. Apparently Pastry Chef Michael is on the UK National Pastry Team. It shows!Killian took care of us and the service was exceptional. He gave us such fun information on all of the teas and food, and how everything was tied into Van Gogh. It was just so nice talking with him. He even had the pastry chef come out and say hello - which was a treat! Thanks Killian - we can't wait to see you next time! :)Overall, I HIGHLY recommend the Oscar Wilde Lounge for Afternoon Tea!

My friend and I decided to visit here to try out their afternoon tea. We were welcomed at the door to the lounge and shown straight to our table, which although close together was very nice. The room itself is very opulent and has a lovely atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. There did seem to be a query over the complimentary glass of champagne which I booked but as I had an email to show the deal but the lady who was serving us agreed. The staff who brought out the tea (I think it was Elisa) were very knowledgeable which was great. My friend who is dairy free was well catered for, although neither of us were over struck on the sandwiches...some of the flavours weren’t great and there were also quite a few where the bread was quite dry. I did love the addition of the little savoury tart. On the up side the scones were lovely and I especially enjoyed the lemon curd with these. We both agreed that the pastries were very pretty and one of the better flavour selections we’ve had and we have been to quite a few afternoon teas, they were delicious. I also think it was great to say at the beginning that you could try more than one tea etc, which I didn’t get a chance to do but if I visited again I’d love to try a hot chocolate.

Had the best Afternoon Tea at Hotel Cafe Royal, Oscar Wilde Lounge! Enjoyed attentive and discreet service from the minute we arrived. Greeted warmly by the the door man and the Lounge staff. The venue is perfect for an afternoon tea English experience, elegantly and ornately decorated venue. The piano player is a lovely added touch to create the ambiance. The tea was superb! Check the website for the menu. The whole experience is enhanced by the waiting staff. Our excellent waitress was called Erisa - thank you Erisa for making our afternoon so enjoyable. So much so that we intend gifting the Cafe Royal afternoon tea to our son and girlfriend. Erisa was polite, friendly and attentive. Additional sandwiches are offered as a matter of course. We couldn't eat all the cakes so Erisa boxed them up for us in lovely Cafe Royal boxes and popped into a lovely Cafe Royal carrier. We wondered through the hotel reception which is equally sumptuous and had a cocktail in Ziggy's Bar - again staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommended.

Great afternoon team experience at the Oscar Wilde Lounge - pricey but we felt like it was more than worth it. All you can eat sandwiches and game pies - we could barely eat the desserts afterwards so the staff were kind enough to pack everything up to go for us, and included some extra scones! We spent about 2.5 hours here and never felt rushed. Lovely way to pass the afternoon and feel fancy for a little bit.

Booked here to take my mother-in-law out for a birthday treat. The food was exquisite and the service was second to none! The staff were all so inventive, we were waited on by Erisa, Estelle and Madalina all of whom could not be faulted. The Oscar Wilde lounge is absolutely beautiful and the food is divine. Every sandwich, cake and tea was described to us and the staff were all very informed and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend the Oscar Wilde lounge afternoon tea and the Cafe Royal for any special occasion or even for a quiet rest from shopping if you are in the area. 5***!

Excellent! Excellent! Family of 5 had High Tea at the Oscar Wilde Lounge. Our server, Sany, was superb! She was very attentive and explained everything to us. She was incredibly kind and always checking to see if we needed some more tea, drinks or food items. Our daughter is vegan and they had a full selection for her as well. Everything was delicious! We will definitely come back here for tea!

We visited Cafe Royal for afternoon tea the other day and have had a lovely time there. The sandwiches were really delicious, the cakes were absolutely marvelous (they are small masterpieces). The selection of sandwiches is really wide, there's something for everyone. The duck liver parfait with red onion chutney and the roast beef Brussels sprouts with horseradish and mustard were our favorites. Everyone was very kind and helpful, regardless of how busy was there everything was served on time. Very satisfied with the quality of food and service we received. Highly can recommend to everyone as a lovely experience.

We visited the restaurant for Afternoon Tea and were really pleased by so many things. The interiors elegance and sophistication, the tasty sandwiches and sweets, crispy dry champagne, live piano music, but most of all the kindness and professionalism of the well educated waitresses (Diane and the other waitress that could speak Greek).

Wow - such a lovely afternoon spent in the Oscar Wilde Lounge. The room is beautifully decorated with painted ceilings and gold and mirrored walls. A pianist in the middle playing classic and not so classic songs (Game of Thrones theme tune was in there somewhere). We were looked after by a very attentive lady called Erisa. Nothing was too much trouble, and she was always there at the right time to top up champagne and tea. The Festive Afternoon tea was absolutely delicious, my favourite being the warm Game Pie. We felt truly spoilt and we will definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Our family of normal/vegan/veggie/no cheese citrus or choc eaters posed a mixed challenge to which the chefs and staff rose with enormous grace and charm. Everything from the food, the tea/coffee, the bubbles, to the service was superb in sumptuous unhurried surroundings. Absolutely top quality without being po-faced; we had the very best time and did not want to leave. Six stars out of five.

Afternoon tea in the Oscar Wilde Lounge is a rather decadent affair. Located in the Cafe Royal in Regent Street. It has been refurbished to a very high standard retaining all the original features. A little over the top?- of course it is- thats why it is associated with Oscar- very flamboyant! Excellent choice of different teas with full explanation of flavours in menu. The afternoon tea itself is a wonderful mix of sweet and savoury and is extremely well presented. Staff are very professional and courteous. Vegetarian and halal can be catered for. There is a resident pianist who is excellent- plays just the right music and at just the right volume.

We had such a lovely afternoon tea today! Our waitress was absolutely delightful, the room itself was like going into another world, the sandwiches and pastries were delicious and we really enjoyed trying the different teas. My husband particularly enjoyed the talented pianist’s version of a Metallica song nestled between the normal classics. A blissful afternoon of luxury ❤️

By far one of the more expensive afternoon teas I've had (bill came to a total of almost 200 pounds for 2 people), but we enjoyed the gorgeous decor, great food, pastries/desserts, tea, lots of champagne, and music. Live music was excellent. Pianist was formally dressed but having fun playing various tunes (think Game of Thrones soundtrack, Metallica, Elvis, among others). Would definitely go back.

My husband and I were referred for afternoon tea to The Oscar Wilde Lounge at Café Royal Hotel by a London tour guide. We were very new to this Afternoon Tea experience. We don't even drink tea at home! LOL. Since this was our first afternoon tea we were pleasantly surprised! From the moment we arrived and met the doorman who provided exceptional service to paying the bill 2 1/2 hours later we could not have had a better experience. Our servers were Holly and Killian.(I'm sorry I don't know the doorman's name) They were very helpful and never made us feel uncomfortable. Holly was so sweet. She explained the history of the room and the celebrities who frequented it. For novice tea drinkers we loved the mango Holly recommended. We even bought tea at the airport to take home! The sandwiches, scones and desserts were delicious. We were offered as much as we wanted. We were so full by the time we left. There was no pressure to leave. Very attentive and accommodating . I would highly recommend the Oscar Wilde lounge for afternoon tea!!!

This was one of the most magical experiences of my life. I did a lot of research to find the perfect afternoon tea in London. For me, atmosphere was the highest priority. From the moment we walked into the room my breath was taken. The room is grand and ornate and yet, because of it's size, it feels so intimate. The piano music set the tone for this dreamy afternoon. The service was delightful, attentive and sophisticated while never ever being snobbish or unapproachable. I didn't know sandwich bread could melt in your mouth... but it can and does here. The food was exquisite and we were served as much as we wanted and never felt rushed for a second (we stayed 2.5 hours! I never wanted to leave!) I could truly go on and on, I would 10/10 recommend this experience to everyone looking for a special afternoon to remember or just a rejuvenating getaway from the stress of life for a few beautiful hours.
