Origano in Edinburgh, City of

Went on a random Monday evening and had a fantastic experience. I’ve had the takeaway before but this was the first time in the restaurant.The Melanzane starter was as good as I had in Sorrento and Rome. Pizza for main was amazing - I thought I found the best pizza in Edinburgh on Gorgie Rd but I was wrong! Tiramisu was ok, very light and quite boozy but I have had better. Still very good though.Loved that they had local paolozzi beer on tap. Wine was ok. Atmosphere in the restaurant was really nice, quite busy but not overly crowded. COVID rules were adhered to.

Had a real craving for good Italian pizza which haven’t had since lockdown. This didn’t disappoint! Was really good and so much better than Dominos, Pappa John’s, etc. Restaurant quality pizza!! Can’t wait to visit the restaurant when it re opens!!

Recently had a takeaway as really missing pizza from here. I opted for a 14 inch chicken jalepeno and it was A MA ZINGI will definitely be returning for another (or a couple, no sharing next time with my other half!) They don't deliver up my way, so it is worth the drive across town for this cheesy delight.

Vinimos aquí para la comida del cumpleaños de mi hermana en marzo y comimos la mejor pizza que he probado (¡creo que nunca!). Como vegetariano, me encantó ver más de una opción vegetariana. ¡Fui por la pizza verdure bianca y no podría recomendarla más! Horneado perfectamente y no tardó en llegar a nuestra mesa. Gran ambiente en el restaurante, muy rústico y acogedor. ¡Hazte un favor y ve aquí si estás en la zona! No te arrepentirás.

Bare bricks, candles in waxy bottles, sofas. Could be London, could be anywhere and definitely not the cliche of a typical Italian restaurant in Edinburgh with marble nudes and plastic vines. Pizza were fine but that seemed about all. Really expected a bigger menu. Nice service. And, on Saturday night , it was the cool crowd, not the cheery hen parties, lights dimming on family birthdays that so enliven Italian rstaurants. a different experience so it is a matter of taste whether you go for pizza with the cool crowd or happy Italian food and cheeriness with the Julianas of this world

This place is so good I would consider travelling the 50 miles from home to have a night here.The pizza is delicious. One of the best pizzas I have ever had. I dont really know what to write other than check it out. Also the staff are lovely. They could not be more hospitable.

Fantastic cosy little Italian restaurant with simply the best pizza I’ve had outside of Italy. Thin crisp bases and delicious toppings. The shared mixed antipasto was fresh and very tasty, and the bruschetta was fabulous. Staff were very helpful and friendly. We’ve already booked to come again.

Early evening meal with family. Lovely cosy atmosphere with pizza kitchen in full view.Menu is limited, with various options of bruschetta toppings and sharing platters.We opted for a meat sharing platter, which was both generous and delicious.Mains almost all choices are pizzas. We chose two different pizzas, which were really good, be prepared when having a spicy one, it is very fiery.Quality of food and service, excellent. We will definitely return.

Was recommended this place to try from friends over past few months. Ordered the ROSSO pizza, it was outstanding. Thinly made and great crust. Been to italy a few times and this is up there with best pizza I have ever tried. Will defo be back again

We recently had to spend an extra night in Edinburgh and were stuck for somewhere to eat. A local recommended Origano and we were incredibly impressed. The pizza menu was so good it took us 3 times longer than usual to order! The service was attentive and the food was great, we'd recommend this place to anyone.

Visited on a cold wet night for a family meal and had a wonderful time. The welcome, and service throughout was friendly and attentive. The interior is beautiful and the low lighting and candles made it feel really cozy. We had an antipasto board and bruschetta pizza to start with and both were excellent, followed by a selection from the vast range of pizzas. They also have a small but adequate selection of desserts including lighter options of sorbet and affogato which were welcome after so much pizza. Highly recommended.

Good Pizza (and salads), Good service, Good drinks, Good atmosphere. Located perfectly on Leith Walk. What else is there to say?

The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and very relaxing. The menu is very good, we had a three course meal with wine and it was all very good. I found the staff really nice, very friendly and excellent with taking online bookings. Overall a great experience and I would recommend it. If you are visiting from the city centre area and don't want to walk there are buses that stop very close to the restaurant.

Very disappointing. £25.50 for 2 soggy pizzas from the takeaway party of the business. Won't be back.

My wife and I have eaten a lot of pizzas, in every continent except Antarctica, but this is probably the best of them all.

Had dinner here with a friend, who recommended the venue and it certainly lived up to the hype.

Recently dined whilst visiting Edinburgh. Looking to avoid the tourist traps we found this place online. It was a 20 min walk out of Edinburgh for us towards Leith. Great pizza, fair prices and a cosy romantic atmosphere. Even on a Wednesday evening it was pretty full and with locals rather than tourists.

Easy, simple, quick and delicious. We had a takeaway and shared a 16 inch Estiva pizza it was packed full of flavour. Will most certainly be back. It is slightly pricy for a pizza £16 but worth it. I wish they did more interesting sides like arancini or chips. However really good and will be back.

Traditionally we always found this to be the best pizza in Leith, although the last two deliveries have been disappointing. Pizzas have arrived crushed against the lid of the box, folded over itself and luke warm. Will now be trying somewhere else.

Great meal at Origanos.. nothing was too much trouble. The staff were so attentive and really made us feel welcome! The food was so delicious and absolutely great value for money!! 10/10

It was our first meal at Origano as we visit Edinburgh regularly and wanted to seek out some new restaurants to try, over and above our old favourites.

Met a couple of friends here for a Sunday evening pizza and catch-up. I had the Pizza Pompeii which was excellent and reminded me of the pizza's i had in Naples a couple of years ago. The middle size was plenty for 1 hungry person :-)

Pyszna pizza ,duży wybór ,wielkość pizzy do wyboru ,bardzo klimatyczne miejsce na randkę (wystrój świec) i na kolacje z rodzina czy przyjaciółmi ,obsługa bardzo sympatyczna :)serdecznie polecam .

Era mi primera vez, y me lo habían recomendado mis compañeros de comedor. Ambiente encantador, aunque es tan "cambiante" que necesitábamos usar nuestras antorchas telefónicas para leer el menú. Realmente tenía ganas de un G&T;, pero me decepcionó descubrir que no tenían un tónico delgado, y como soy diabético, la versión completa de azúcar es un no no. Así que estaba muy decepcionado. De todos modos, el lugar huele delicioso ya que las pizzas se cocinan allí, así que estábamos ansiosos. La lista de vinos es un poco limitada en términos de vino italiano, pero el rojo italiano, el más caro, estaba delicioso. Así que nos instalamos y nos relajamos en la atmósfera. Las pizzas llegaron y estaban deliciosas aunque la mía tenía un fondo muy empapado. Mis compañeros tuvieron problemas con su pizza que tenía que ser hecha, pero el amable personal lo compensó. Así que, en general, es una buena opción, pero quizás hay que pensar un poco más sobre la opción del comensal.

We had booked for a group of eight for a birthday celebration, and wee given the horseshoe booth table which was perfect. The food was excellent as was the service. It was our first visit but definitely won’t be the last

On the basis of one visit and one pizza I am prepared to say that this is as good as it gets. We shared the pizza and were equally impressed. If we get back to Edinburgh then this will be a must.

Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. The platters are generous and tasty. Staff pull out the stops to cater for vegans. Interesting pizza toppings rather than the usual standards. Generous portions. Good selection of wine.

Si sa, noi italiani siamo molto pretenziosi e critici verso il cibo nostrano mangiato all'estero. Nonostante ciò, Origano ha una delle migliori pizze di Edimburgo. La pasta era buonissima e gli ingredienti freschissimi. Complimenti!

Having been to Origano a couple of times, I knew my SO and I were in for a treat and, yet again, we were not disappointed. The pizza was excellent, I got the Vesuvio while the SO got an Estiva pizza. The price for their size and quality was very reasonable, the pizzas were made quickly (about 10 minutes with fresh ingredients) and the staff were pleasant and efficient, offering us a variety of oil and pepper. Will always visit this place when I’m in Edinburgh and advise you do the same!

We had the pizza Calabrese which was delicious and also was much larger than the advertised 11'. The red house wine was also nice :)

Live in Edinburgh and won’t eat pizza unless it’s from here. Recently went to Italy for a holiday and when receiving a pizza at a restaurant it just never lived up to the origano pizza!! I’m always telling my friends of the pizza here and to try it. Would definitely recommend and the staff are fantastic!! 10 stars⭐️

This was some of the best pizza we had outside of Florence. We arrived at a busy time but were able to sit in the bar section immediately. We ordered the bruschetta, pizza, and the tiramisu. All were delicious and I would recommend them to anyone. The service was great!

Always freshly cooked and really tasty pizza. I’m a fan. It’s always busy which is a good sign and the service is great.

Was booked in for meal at 8.30 pm we got our starters ok we sat for an hour and still no main meal other tables that came in after us had there meals and left when we complained we where told it was just one of these things they couldn’t explain why other tables were served before us we paid for our starters and walk out will never be back

Visited last night. The restaurant was super busy but they managed to squeeze us in. We got the sharing platter inc meats, bread, olives etc, Two 14” pizzas, two pieces of banoffee pie and a bottle of house red all for £60. The pizzas were gorgeous and the dessert was one of the best I’ve ever had ! Staff were really nice and it’s a lovely little restaurant.

We had very delicious pizza’s but unfortunately the staff wasn’t that friendly towards us. Maybe because we weren’t locals and just visiting Edinburgh? But we do recommend the place for a good pizza!

When it comes to deliveries we've twice been let down by this pizza establishment. First time, the margarita pizza arrived late and had too much tomato sauce and no cheese.It went in the bin. Second time round, ordered a margarita due to despiration. It was ordered at 8:50pm and didn't turn up until 11:10pm. Very let down by this place on Leith Walk. Please get your delivery service in order.

Booked in advance due to it being weekend of Edinburgh marathon. Food was very tasty and lots of it. If you're wanting a great value pizza and wanting something authentic - this is the place to go

Really friendly, accommodating staff. The gluten free pizza was cooked in oven like others very good. I recommend.

I have been here twice and I have to say that it's a must if you are in Leith area and want to have Italian food. The pizzas are incredibly good and the meat lasagna is amazing as well! We had some desserts too and they were excellent!! I'll come back for sure

We were over for the night viewing the university and I did a little research about where to eat and selected Origano. It’s a bustling restaurant just off the tourist beaten track.

We ate here on our first night in Leith, booked in advance. A very cosy, relaxed and friendly place. The pizzas were very good and we enjoyed our visit. We would definitely return.

My first night at Edinburgh and I've stopped by at this place. Very delicious and fresh pizza, portuguese wine and a rellay nice lemon cheesecake with vanilla ice. Staff also very friendly. Another visit is planned.

Der beeindruckende Ofen macht schon was her. Man kann zusehen wie alles gemacht wird und auch direkt in den Ofen schauen, in dem das Holz brennt. Pizza und Calzone haben sehr gut geschmeckt. Die kleine Pizza geht bei uns Zuhause als große durch. Die Mittlere ist riesig und die Große wohl nur von mehreren Personen zu schaffen. Lohnt sich, ist echt ein Erlebnis

First time in origano, it won't be the last for sure. We loved the environment, the staff and the food!!!!. I highly recommend this place for pizza, I think it is one of the best in Edinburgh.

Here for a family lunch. Nice atmosphere. Attentive staff. Food was good. Er all had pizzas. Thee of the four of us were really happy with their pizzas. I was a little dissapointed because although the pizza base was excellent my favourite topping fell well below that from other restaurants.

El personal era muy agradable y atento, aunque estaba muy ocupado y había un grupo grande comiendo en el restaurante en el momento en que eran muy ruidosos e irrespetuosos de otros comensales que no tenían nada que ver con el personal. Disfrutamos de la comida y podemos recomendar encarecidamente el tiramisú. Sin duda volveremos y esperamos que tenga un público más tranquilo.

La segunda vez que hemos estado en Origano - pedimos pizza, ensalada y lasaña. Fue tan bueno como la primera vez. El servicio era bueno y la comida era deliciosa. ¡Solo un comentario sería que si necesitas poner la antorcha de tu teléfono para leer el menú, la iluminación podría necesitar un poco de ajuste!

Fantastic brick oven thin crust pizza, with fresh everything to put on top. Three sizes, beautiful environment to have a relaxing dinner. This is not your typical pizza joint.

I dined here almost a year and a half ago with my daughter while visiting the area. We agreed that we would go back again if we had the opportunity. We did! We went back last week and had amazing meals. The food is fresh and authentic. The bruschetta is so good. You have to try it. We had the basic bruschetta but they offer many variations. We had pollo salads for dinner and shared a slice of tiramisu for dessert. The place is buzzzing with couples, families, friends. Service was great. It seems like the waitstaff all pitch in to keep things moving. I love this place.

Muy buen restaurante, con ambiente acogedor y buen servicio. Siendo celíaco, había buscado la mejor pizza sin gluten en la ciudad y Origano fue muy recomendable. Fuimos allí dos veces, la primera vez un viernes que reservamos por correo electrónico, y al día siguiente sin reserva, pero lograron encontrarnos una mesa. El personal es amable y profesional, la sala grande con vista abierta a la cocina donde los árboles pizzaoli hacen su arte. ¡Y qué pizza! La mejor pizza sin gluten jamás probada, incluso para los standarts italianos y la margherita regular también fue asombrosa (dixit mi amigo italiano). Además, la lista ofrece una selección diversificada y muy buena de vinos de Italia y otros países. Así que todo fue simplemente perfecto!

Disfrutamos la pizza y la lasaña de carne que pedimos, pero como compartíamos ambas cosas, no nos gustaron las tablas (similar a una tabla de quesos) en las que se puso la pizza. La lasaña fue traída en un bol. Normalmente, en otros restaurantes, dividían la comida y la traían con la mitad y la mitad en dos platos. Teníamos dos tablas con media pizza en cada una y un tazón de lasaña. La camarera (que fue muy amable) nos dijo que podríamos querer dos tazones pequeños. ? A lo que le dijimos que sí. Con las bebidas en la mesa era demasiado en la mesa. Fue agradable, pero no diría que es la mejor pizza o lasaña que he comido.

Had an amazing 21st Birthday at Origano! I have high standards of pizzas and they were amazing! This is a must go, if you are a pizza lover I highly recommend! I really liked the atmosphere there too, couples would have a good date

Went on a last minute decision on a Sunday Afternoon with a couple of friends from work. Easily got a table and was seated immediately. Upon walking in you are greeted with the warm aroma of stone baked pizzas.

From arrival to departure this was a very pleasant experience. Fantastic Pizza discs of tasty perfection, really attentive and very friendly waiting folks and a relaxed, comfortable restaurant. I agree with JoeC4082 'Best Pizza in Edinburgh'. Three hours well spent. One piece of advice - laminate the paper menus you have for posterity. There's a lot of character in them that's worth keeping.

Food & service are both going down hill. We have been coming regularly and had already noted inconsistencies in both the quantity & quality of food and level of moodiness of service. After last Saturday lunch, when we were the only customers there, they have definitely lost us. The waitress was curt to the point of rudeness, we felt like we were distributing her. The pizza was smaller and less garnished than it usually is. The drinks list was poor as usual. Never mind that in months of coming here we have never benefited from any kind of recognition (like a free drink or antipasto, which would be the case in a real, actually Italian-owned place, not somewhere trying to ape an Italian experience), the nosedive in the level of service & food quality have put us off.

This was a family meal out between Christmas and New Year to mark a birthday and our party included a small child. The restaurant was not fully booked, yet It took three and a half hours to achieve completion of a three course meal. This was due to the disinterest shown by those serving to facilitate progression from course to course. Getting the table cleared after our main courses took an age as did getting the serving staff to take and then serve a dessert order. It took two requests for a wine list to be produced and wine was served by the placing of open bottles in coolers on the table with no offer to taste, far less an offer to pour. The food was great (credit to the hard working chefs!) and it is a real shame that this restaurant is spoiled by the poor service. All the delays and indifferent service made the night out stressful rather than the relaxing experience hoped for.

Great pizzas, great service, friendly staff, and great atmosphere. Best pizzas in Edinburgh. Definitely give this one a visit.

Im Origano erhalten sie die beste Pizza in Edinburgh. Die Weine sind gut und das Dessert ebenfalls. Das Personal macht einen guten Job und ist sehr freundlich. Das Restaurant liegt ein bisschen ausserhalb des Stadtzentrums am Leith-Walk.

Brilliant service, pizza and wine. My wife had been before and raved about this place and didn't disappoint. Very busy place and good atmosphere.

Only had to wait around 15 minutes for our table to be free, sat at the bar and bar man was very attentive. Food was great, and waiter threw in free cheesy garlic bread for our (very short) wait. Highly recommend.

Loved this place, the pizza was fantastic, great atmosphere and the service was excellent. They also have Paolozzi on tap so what's not to love? For me, the pizza is better than La Favorita where I often find the pizzas soggy in the middle rather than thin and crispy and the vibe isn't great.

Excellent little Italian restaurant just outside the city centre. Great service, friendly and efficient. Huge freshly made pizzas, and very good value. Loved it.

Driving through Leith it looked like every other place had been closed and/or abandoned and our taxi driver told us not to go into any of the local places as we looked like outsiders. Even with this though we had high hopes for this place as it looked great online and had good reviews.

Food took over an hour to arrive and was cold when it got here. We had to heat it up in the oven. Pizza was also burnt on the bottom and generally over cooked. Very disappointing considering we spend £18. Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be ordering from here again.

We had a lovely meal here last night. Fortunately we booked a table as it was incredibly busy - clearly very popular. Excellent food - in particular the goats cheese salad - as well as the pizza we ordered - with enough slices to take home for a family member unable to join us for this quality meal. Will definitely visit this restaurant again!

I'm unfortunately intolerant to garlic, onion and gluten - making eating out at restaurants somewhat difficult, especially Italian ones!

Really great pizza for vegetarians and meat eaters alike, the staff were very helpful by letting us make changes to our order. The atmosphere is very relaxed and intimate, would recommend booking a table in advance.

My daughter and I, dropped in without booking last Saturday. Busy but not a problem and we were seated immediately. We ordered mushroom bruschetta, green salad and a succulent 16” Capricciosa pizza, great range of tastes. Good vibes.

We stopped off here while passing through Edinburgh... I know my review is harsh but I'm judging this place on how it places itself and the standard they portray. I was at the smaller takeaway.. not the restaurant.

The best pizza I’ve had in a long time, the base was thin and perfectly cooked and a great topping to go with it wish I got the 16” instead of the 14” would of loved a couple slices for lunch the next day

After a long day we arrived at the restaurant a little late. The only places available were on bar like tables, but we didn't mind. I had the pompei pizza which was nice and spicy with the perfect crust. Staff was working hard, but stayed friendly and didn't forget about us though we were seated near the door in an odd corner. The ambiance was great and the prices right. The middle sized pizza was even a little bit too much for us and we are big eaters. We kinda regretted that we had not ordered the anti pasti. The table next to us ordered it and it looked amazing.

Recien llegados de noche en busca de algo de comer. Resultado: Un buen tomate con mozarella y alcaparras. Despues una pizza excelente. Un par de postres en forma de tartas ligeras. Buen servicio, buen ambiente y buen precio. Solo faltaba un poquito mas de luz.

Lovely service and delicious Gluten Free pizza, thin and crispy and absolutely bloody delicious topping. A rare and very welcome find for a coeliac, would definitely recommend. Loved the tunes and lighting, great for couples or groups.

Esperamos por un asiento en una concurrida noche entre semana y sin duda no era la pena la espera. A pesar de servicio muy amable - La pizza se (y nosotros tres, y cada una tenía una variedad de pizzas) donde excepcionalmente decepcionante. Uno era demasiado pastoso. Otra, rodeada y no sabroso quemada crujiente y la tercera fue simplemente mediocre. Ninguno tenía un revestimiento inicial correcta para proporcionar una base de buen gusto las coberturas. Si no era la noche del chef fuera sugiero buscando uno nuevo. Caro y no valía la pena. Estoy seguro de Edimburgo puede hacer mejor que esto. No recomendado.

Soy un habitual aquí y he tenido muchas veces la pizza sin embargo por desgracia nuestra entrega fue más de media hora tarde y mi pizza era quemado negro. 5 de las rebanadas eran incomibles como tenían grandes agujeros negros quemados y pizza restante muy seco. Muy decepcionante ya que normalmente realmente disfrutar de pizza desde aquí.

Came across this place and although really busy they fitted us in. The pizzas were brilliant. Good service. Great atmosphere. Good prices. Lovely and friendly.

Hicimos un pedido de recogida como nuestro lugar era simplemente fuera de la zona de entrega. Una de las bisagras superiores en la masa de pizza y esta masa era precioso. La pizza era muy finas, crujientes y tenía la cantidad justa de masticar. Pedimos varias tartas dentro de nuestro grupo y no una chatarra era izquierda. Recomiendo encarecidamente!

This is one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve been to. The food was excellent as was the service we received. We would definitely go again if we are ever in Edinburgh again.
