A visit to Edinburgh wouldn't be complete for me without a meal at Al Borgo. Consistently wonderful, a warm welcome is always on offer, along with well cooked tasty food. This time we both chose from the specials, absolutely superb. Couldn't fault it.

I very rareoly goive 5 stars to anything so 4 for this small family run Italian restaurant in Juniper Green is high praise indeed. The ambience is fine although from the outside you would be forgiven for thinking it just another roadside Italian. The staff are extremely helpful, freindly and upbeat. The menu is extensive with pizzas, seafood, varied main courses and starters and what we chose was delivered quickly and beautifuly cooked. Garlic prawns, prawns and avocado, minestrone soup, and fresh Scottish mussels. All really tasty. Pizzas for some and steak for others. Delicious and decent helpings. A HUGE icecream menu to end (not just ice creams but it does seem a house speciality).Very highly recommended, well worth the trip. We were going to the airport immediately afterwards and it is convenient for EDI (about 10 mins by car max).

I met a friend for lunch here as we both like Italian food and it was a convenient distance for both of us to travel. It was our first visit but I had read the good reviews so decided to give it a try. We both opted for the 2 course lunch which, I think was £9.95 each. My friend had minestrone and I had bruschetta with tomatoes. Then we both had chicken in a white mushroom/ cream sauce with fried potatoes. We both enjoyed our food very much and the service was great. The restaurant was bright and very clean. We both agreed we would to return for our next outing together. I will also return with my husband who is half Italian to see if he enjoys the food just as much. I would recommend you give it a try.

6 of us went here recently for a meal before going on to a party . The food was very good and pretty good value for money ,staff were very friendly the service was a bit slow but the restaurant was very busy . Our only complaint was the wine list which was much more expensive than the sort of thing you expect in this type of restaurant , 20 quid for a bottle of chianti was a bit steep, but otherwise a good value night out.

We dined at this restaurant at the weekend with our granddaughter. The members of staff made us extremely welcome and were very friendly. The menu was extensive and included a children's selection. When ordering, suggestions were made and options offered to ensure that we had exactly what we wanted. Nothing was a problem and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We will be back to experience genuine hospitality and good quality food in an informal environment.

Which traditional authentic Italian restaurant would serve risotto made with normal rice instead of arborio rice, thereby missing out on the rich creaminess of this dish? And use bland, boring mushrooms instead of porcini and the 'wild mushrooms' advertised? Well, this place does and it was an unpleasant surprise to say the least.A dish of grilled salmon fillet was also underwhelming, consisting of foul-tasting fish and a horribly greasy sauce. The minestrone starter was OK, but this is hardly splitting the atom in cuisine terms...All in all, a place to avoid.

If there ever was a reason to travel out of the City of Edinburgh to dine, then the Italian restaurant Al Bongo, in Juniper Green, is the one to head for.Family run authentic Italian restaurant that deceives from the outside, by giving a warm welcome and serving high quality food by friendly staff.Prices are very reasonable and their is a wide choice of dishes on the menu.of course its entirely up to you what you choose but I can recommend the Calamari starter, and Filetto Padrino as a main. Many thanks to both the Owners and Staff for a most enjoyable evening.

Right next to a chippy (run by the same people), this place looks less classy than it is.There is the usual selection of pizzas and pastas, but the other italian classics are the real treat. This is all authetic rustic grup, with little pretension but a lot of skill. The steaks are done to perfection.Excellent value for money, good selection of italian wines, and a superbly friendly staff makes this a fantastic place. Well worth the bustrip out of central Edinburgh.

Dine here often and it never fails to please. All the usual Italian favourites plus specials and all are generously proportioned and well presented. Tiny place, excellent food, great service, good value, what more could you want? I had Monkfish in Prosecco Batter, the batter was the lightest I'd ever had, delicious. I'm recently back from Sicily so couldn't resist the Linguine Alla Puttanesca which was perfect too, much better actually than a similar dish in Sicily.

Went on a random Monday evening and had a fantastic experience. I’ve had the takeaway before but this was the first time in the restaurant. The Melanzane starter was as good as I had in Sorrento and Rome. Pizza for main was amazing - I thought I found the best pizza in Edinburgh on Gorgie Rd but I was wrong! Tiramisu was ok, very light and quite boozy but I have had better. Still very good though.Loved that they had local paolozzi beer on tap. Wine was ok. Atmosphere in the restaurant was really nice, quite busy but not overly crowded. COVID rules were adhered to.
