Frizzante in Edinburgh, City of

Partner and I dined here for the first time yesterday. Only two people in the place. Although the food tasted good my main pasta came lukewarm. How that can happen in an empty restaurant I don’t know.

This Is an absolute gem of a restaurant in the centre of the city. Family run with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Incredible Italian food.

Don’t buy the pasta dishes as not worth the cost given the portion sizes (small).. You get more chicken as an “extra topping on a pizza” than you do in a chicken pasta dish…. You might have thought that an authentic Italian restaurant would use fresh pasta, but given that the“al dente” pasta was closer to “crunchy hard” in the centre and can only be explained by using dried pasta. The waiters banged down every plate, bowl and glass as if in an awful mood…and then took items away before even check if they were finished. Very disappointing.

The food was mediocre, the service was lacking, and the attitude was mediocre and unenthusiastic. But they will also ask you for service fee. Not worth recommending.

Food below average for a pizzeria, spaghetti pre-cooked, warmed up in the microwave, swimming in butter. Small pizza selection. No risotto. This visit was disappointing for us.

Their risotto is really buttery and delicious, must try , the gnocchi was average so is the hot chocolate. Tiramisu actually didn't taste like it , more like chocolate cake

What a tired and dreary spot! Called in off the street to a largely empty restaurant on a Saturday evening, to be met with indifferent service, a very average (but overpriced) menu, and mediocre food. It markets itself as a family-owned restaurant, which implies a warm friendly bosom of a place with some personal touches, but that wasn’t our experience…either hand it down to a younger generation with a bit of vim and vigour or sell the space on to a more enthusiastic entrepreneur. There is no shortage of good Italian restaurants in the area…based on our experience tonight, this is not one of them.

I had an extremely disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food was bland, clearly made from frozen ingredients, and lacked any seasoning whatsoever. It felt like no effort was put into making the dishes enjoyable. To make matters worse, the service was just as bad. The staff seemed uninterested and unprofessional, with slow service and little attention to customers. For the prices they charge, I expected at least a decent meal, but this was far from it. I definitely won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone looking for a good dining experience. There are far better options elsewhere.

Absolutely lovely restaurant, food was delicious for both of us. Lovely atmosphere, small and cozy. Highly recommend.

the place is very cute and have a nice vibe. the food is sooo yummy, but they could be more clear in the menu and maybe include more soft drink options. i’ve ordered a pasta signed as vegetarian, at first it was good, but then i noticed that it had some fish in the middle of the plate and i’m vegetarian. they changed my dish as i asked, and the gnocchi was wonderful. i defo would be back and recommend if you pay more attention when you’re ordering.

Simply excellent — a beautiful meal. The carbonara was rich and creamy and the inferno pizza was great, both incredibly tasty and large portions. The staff were very helpful and attentive. A wide range of specials were available and also looked nice! Would absolutely recommend

To be honest, establish is a nice place. Staff ok, bit blunt but nothing to complain about. The food however…. It’s like something I made in year 8 food tech. Specifically the bruschetta is 90% oil 5% tomatoes and the rest Asda ciabatta. Margarita pizza, something out of a low grade motel. Oily & Slimey. Holiday inns favourite.

AMAZING..Just by luck we got a table before our Conert at the Usher Hall. Pre theatre menu was looking great at £19.95 x 2 courses.. Just the ticket. Bruchetta was lovely and big portion. Lasagna really tasty. Pizza was all you would expect from an Italian. The wine was the best Chardonnay ever. The staff, oh the staff.....Olivia, Franco, Pascale and others (we didn't get all your names ) and a shout out for the KP.... YOU ARE SO GOOD AT SERVICE and made us feel very special. Especially giving us your very own private table at the end. Thanks for welcoming us to this fabulous establishment. We'll see you soon and whoever reads this...dont look anywhere else you've found the one! Thank you from 2 very happy ladies.

Lovely place. Warm welcome. Tasty authentic food. Just be aware the penne Arrabbiata was spicy which we didn’t expect.

Had a really nice meal here before a concert at the Usher Hall nearby. Serves amazing pizza with a nice cocktail/wine menu. Staff are friendly and it has a relaxed family-run feel to it.

Another fabulous evening here tonight .We stumbled upon this little gem a couple of years ago and thought it was fabulous Fast forward a couple of years and nothing has changed .We have had a fantastic time with beautiful food and an amazing hosts we felt really welcomed The staff are fab , very welcoming and the ambience of the restaurant is great so all in all a credit to the owners and staff and we wouldn’t eat anywhere else

Not great to be honest - went in for a quick pizza to share and a drink before our daughter’s show. Pizza not great - and we ordered a side portion of calamari- menus showed prices of £16 for pizza and £10 odd for calamari. Bottle of peroni and small glass of white wine. Presented with bill of nearly £60 - that’s 1 x 10” pizza, small portion of calamari and 2 drinks. The waiter asked if I wanted to tip - I would have as even though the food not great, some of the female staff were good but having no cash left I couldn’t - some of the male staff were typical Italian waiters - they mean well with some banter but it was pretty annoying to be honest. Not for us, won’t be back. Oh and the swearing in Italian when we didn’t tip didn’t go unnoticed

I called to ask if they could provide an alternative dish for my office Christmas lunch. I am vegetarian and diabetic, I do not eat meat, bread nor pasta for health reasons. The person on the phone suggested chicken! When I declined that he asked me to make a suggestion. I suggested melitzana parmesanno and he very curtly said “no, we don’t do that”. I prefer my restaurants more customer friendly.

Fantastic food. Great friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. It was lovely that the staff went out of there way to speak to us and make us feel welcome.

What a find! From the front the restaurant looks fine but there is plenty of room through the back. We got a two seater booth in the front and it was perfect. The staff were brilliant with us and the food and drinks were delicious and were served quickly. We halved a prosciutto and rocket pizza, and a wild boar ravioli with a sausage and tomato sauce. For desert we shared a tiramisu. Every part of the meal was homemade and was delicious. We will definitely be back the next time we’re in Edinburgh!

Thought the food was overpriced had to ask for more bread as they were a bit stingy with the slices …. and remember to look at the wine list before ordering we had a bottle of Pinot Grigio which cost £40 which was very overpriced

Excellent food, great attentive staff who delivered brilliant service. Did I mention how good the food was…..? From the bruschetta, mozzarella carpaccio, to the buffalo ravioli (yes, really!) or the spaghetti bolognaise. P.s. don’t even get me started on the tiramisu or the cannolis. Simply the best Italian food I have eaten in a long while. Brilliant.

Very friendly and convivial surroundings . Excellent food will definitely come back. It's the first time in an Italian restaurant that my husband cleared his plate.

Unfortunately not the experience I hoped for. We hadn't booked but were greeted by friendly staff and seated within 2 minutes of arriving. We ordered drinks, 1 wine and 1 alcohol-free prosecco. The AF prosecco tasted like fizzy apple juice, which was fine but not £7 per glass worth. The bread was delivered within 5mins, no break before the starters were then delivered and immediately followed by our mains. Everything seemed rushed and as if it was pre-made, waiting for someone to order. Food was cold, and seriously lacked in flavour. The mozzarella croquettes, had only a shoestring of mozzarella and were really just plain croquettes. Although the food was extremely fast, the general service wasn't the best. I sat with an empty glass for the full main without staff offering another drink or even being available to ask. We decided to skip desert and coffee and go straight for the bill as we just wanted to leave by this point. The place is way overpriced for the quality and service provided. I would not recommend or return.

Sorry to say, but the food was absolutely not authentic and also of low quality. The "panzerotti" were instead potato crochette, even cold ! Pizza looks like frozen from supermarket. Waiters were quite rude also. Not raccomended

Great little family restaurant we chose when away on business and would highly recommend. Food was superb, fresh and authentic and the restaurant created a great atmosphere. The only thing I would criticise is that I had a carbonara which was lovely except they used bacon not pancetta so list a little authenticity

This experience was awful! The server’s behavior was outrageous—blatantly rude and even racist. That’s just unbelievable. Demanding that everyone order a pizza and garlic bread or leave was shocking; it felt like he was trying to bully us into buying an overpriced meal. We were ordering one pizza and a bruschetta to share among four people, along with about eight drinks. Plus, two of our friends who were already there had ordered full meals, so it wasn’t a small order by any means. This was, without a doubt, the worst service I’ve ever encountered anywhere in the world. No wonder we skipped dessert and left immediately! Who treats customers like that? In the hospitality business, you might have good food and a venue, but arrogance is never acceptable

You don't write Italy in vain!!!! Spaghetti carbonara was anything but carbonara. I almost cried! I am offended, for myself and for my nation.

Stumbled upon this restaurant when walking back to our hotel. I couldn't have been happier to find it the most friendliest staff and the food is just stunning. The service was delightful they seemed so happy to have you there. The food was so tasty. Don't hesitate, just book.

Loved loved LOVED this place and the meal. The staff were absolutely fantastic and very attentive. I got a special on the menu and it was some of the best pasta I've had in a while. We had the baked Brie with mango dip to start and loved that pairing. Then finished it off with the tiramisu and limoncello. It was the best meal I've had in awhile.

I've been coming here for years, I can safely say I've never had a bad meal and I've always left with a smile on my face.

We stopped here looking for a break from the usual pub fare and VERY GLAD we stopped here. BEST pizza we’ve ever had with thin crispy crust that was perfect. We also had some excellent Sicilian red wine and topped it off with dessert. If you are looking for Italian including pizza stop here!

Visited on a Friday at 5pm, for a meal, before a show, think it opens at that time. We had excellent service from the start, from drinks orders to food options, to curiosity about the photographs on the walls, our waiter was a 5 star option. The food, both quality and flavours were incredible, the pizza base WAS, to die for. Then the Veal arrived in a creamy mushroom and garlic sauce, which was AMAZING!. Would not hesitate to revist again, it certainly made our night all the more special, thank you the team at Frizzante Proseccheria for an memorable dining experience. We ALMOST visited a chain nearby we were so delighted we didn't, I cannot recommend this place highly enough, the kitchen team must work flat out when busy, a big thank you to them too.

Good menu selection, with something for all tastes. The mains we chose were very tasty, hot and just the right amount. Staff were friendly and approachable, with a genuine feel to the decor.

Went there with my work colleagues for lunch. Food was very average - we had pizza and lasagna. There was no plant based milk only cow's milk for coffee, one of our cups was slightly dirty and apparently there was no handwash in the male bathroom. I have been to quite a few Italian restaurants in Edinburgh, this was unfortunately the worst, will never go back.

I was there with my mum on Monday as she had to get her car repaired and we re from West Coast aka Glasgow this place was actually pretty nice we ordered 2 pastas and minestrone soup to share and the soup was fantastic we both enjoyed it very much but the pastas were just okay a pasta Al pollo and penne arrabiatta. The pasta was slightly undercooked and the sauce lacked seasoning, me and my mum both had to season it to give it more flavour... Overall though was a pretty nice experience I just recommend you cook pasta more thoroughly and season your sauces a bit more other than that I enjoyed myself here and if I'm in Edinburgh again I may pay another visit to try again

We wanted to drink a bottle of wine in the evening. The boss expelled us from the restaurant saying that he sells food.

Uncertain about how anyone could call this an authentic Italian place. Besides the odd Italian staff member, the food is definitely not. The pizza is far from Napoletan, there's too much cream in everything. The carbonara bears no resemblance to the actual dish, with no pecorino or guanciale in sight, only ham (yes, the honey wafer thin kind), and cream. I asked the owner for an authentic dessert, they recommended the tiramisu, which didn't have savoiardi, nor mascarpone, nor espresso. It had whipped cream and chocolate sauce? Your nonna would cry if they were served this sorry excuse for a tiramisu at an Italian restaurant, for 8 quid!!! You can get more authentic Italian food at Sainsbury's finest, genuinely. Save your money and your patience. The waiting staff was authentic Italian in that they didn't care too much, the glasses had lipstick marks and stains from a poor dishwasher, and generally everything is overpriced. How this place has almost a 5 star rating is honestly shocking. Has no one ever actually eaten Italian food, in Italy? Don't waste your time nor money.

Frizzante is a truly fantastic wee family run restaurant. Myself and a colleague go there every Monday for our lunch and every time we go we are greeted with the BEST service and INCREDIBLE food. The pizzas are exremely fresh, and the pasta sauces are incredibly tasty and moreish. The prices are very reasonable and I would highly recommend here to anyone looking for a gorgeous lunch / dinner you will not be disappointed.

My husband was craving pasta so this had rave reviews decided to walk over from our hotel. The restaurant screams authentic Italian. We were able to get seated immediately and greeted with what we wanted to drink the water is served in the prettiest blue glass bottles. The menu is limited with some dishes not offering pasta with it at all, got penne pasta in a spicy tomato sauce with added chicken and spaghetti bolognese and a side of garlic bread. Sadly the garlic bread was the best part of the meal. Just kind of boring flavor. Forgot to even bother taking pics. The penne all you could taste was the chili spice and the bolognese tasted like a basic pasta sauce not much flavor. We were both disappointed especially after seeing such glowing reviews. Are we eating the same food? And the tiramisu is not very good and is drowning in cocoa powder way too thick. I don’t like leaving less than 5 star reviews but had to stay honest with my opinions here.

Had one of the best pizzas ever! 🍕🍕🍕 Food reasonably priced. My husband and I went before a show in Usher Hall. The food was blend. But that was nothing in comparison to the fact that I gave 2 bills of 50 pounds to cover a bill of 51 pounds. The waitress gave change from 60. When I protested, they made me out to be who knows what. I practically got thrown out of there by someone who appeared to be the owner or son of owner. Scarry rude guy. Terrible experience. Don't go there.

Fantastic family owned Italian restaurant

We arrived at eight o'clock in the evening, and the waiter was looking for a suitable place for us and asked to sit outside the restaurant. Meanwhile, a man who appeared to be the restaurant manager or owner, who appeared to be Italian, kissed him and told him to inform him that the kitchen was closed, which is not true. The racism appears from his facial expressions 😡😡😡😡😡

Truly one of the worst dining experiences of my life. Not one thing was positive about the dinner except the nice female server. But even she disappeared about stopping by the table twice to take our order. The restaurant itself is very claustrophobic and run down. I don’t think they’ve put one dollar into renovating any of the wickedly old restaurant. Seats are worn out. Tables are beat up. Decor is dated and sad. Cutlery is cheap and dinged up. That being said, the food and the service is where things went from bad to worse. When we walked in my girlfriend was put off by our small table, where servers barely had room to walk by you without hitting your elbows. I told her that the food was probably much better since it is an old Italian family run restaurant. Boy was I wrong. I’ve never been to a restaurant that phones it in more than this one. All the food was atrociously bad. It’s almost like they lied about being Italian. My salad’s produce was wilted and not very fresh. The tomatoes were an absolute joke. Cold, bland, and tasteless. Which makes no sense because everywhere I drove through the UK I could find amazing tomatoes at farmer stands and stores. So they are clearly not putting any money towards good ingredients. Cheap. They provide the table with oil and vinegar which was the first sign that we were in for a bumpy ride. The “olive oil” was almost crystal clear with zero taste. It clearly wasn’t olive oil and instead Canola oil. I asked one of the male servers if I could get a side of olive oil and he told me that the oil in the dispenser on the table was their olive oil. I was dumbfounded by this and asked him for the good olive oil that they cook with and he said that the oil on the table was the oil they cooked with. Once again. Cheap. The main courses finally arrive after a long wait and the pasta was not even on par with elementary school cafeteria pasta and the pizza was even worse. Totally bland. The ingredients once again were trash. Cheap. To call it Italian food is laughable at best. And then the atrocious service. The owner of the restaurant was there, walking past our table a million times but never once addressed us until the very end when I asked for change so I could tip. Both he and the other elderly male server would rush every conversation to the point where it felt like we were bothering them. And believe me I was super polite and kind through the whole process. Every time I asked for anything, I could never get my full request out because the server would run off while I was still talking. Extremely rude and dismissive. My girlfriend and I had pizza at the shopping mall the next day and the pizza was 100 times better. And this was a chain in a mall. Save yourself the money and frustration and AVOID this restaurant unless you want to be scammed into buying a lot of cheap and tasteless food by rude people. Such a joke.

Our concierge recommended this restaurant and it didn’t disappoint. If you want authentic Italian this is the place. One of the specials was black ravioli with prawns and it was amazing. Everyone in our group of 7 had something they enjoyed.

My first visit to Frizzante and it won't be the last. Such a friendly restaurant with a delicious menu and the host Pasquale was a joy to meet.

Had the misfortune of eating here yesterday. 8 of us before the show next door at the Usher Hall. I could go into greater detail but can`t be bothered. But am not sure what region of Italy the carbonara I had came from but it was nowhere I`ve ever been. The meat content was minimal and the pecorino content was missing completely, as was the egg yolk. A tiny few bits of some kind of bacon and a shoot load of cream. Tiny portion of spaghetti and loads of cream. Nothing like carbonara and would have sent it back if wasn`t starving. The waitress begging for tips in cash so the house didn`t trouser them wasn`t a great look either. Thankfully we`ll never be in here again, it was shyte.

Always a great experience here with terrific Italian food and service. This is our regular go to restaurant when we are looking for an Italian meal

Excellent staff and service and good food and drink. Good location in Edinburgh for theatres etc and easy to get to. We have been there many times.

I've never encountered such a fantastic and fabulous experience! The staff were so happy and efficient, I half expected them to start doing synchronized dances while serving. The mozzarella? It melted like candy – so fresh and perfectly put together, it probably deserves its own fan club. And the homemade dessert? Let's just say it was so out of this world, NASA might need to investigate. If we ever find ourselves in Edinburgh again, we'll definitely be heading straight back to this true gem.

Very average pizza and pasta. I don’t think they’re worth the price.

Place needs a bit of refurbished. Starter was ok, deep fried calamari, caprese and deep fried brie with mango dip. Mango dip taste a bit off. Mains was much better, pizza, clam linguine and lasagna. Everything was delicious. Dessert, tiramisu and bake New York cheesecake both was good. Would like to come back try other main courses.
