Origano Cafe & Pizzeria in Edinburgh, City of

I really wanted to like this place! It's located in a charming part of Leith and looks like a sweet place for a date night. It has a legit-looking pizza oven and a nice atmosphere with good lighting that is not too loud or crowded. This being said, I was intensely disappointed (devastated?) by the pizza. I can't imagine the other food would be better because it was elementally bad. By this, I mean the basic elements were tasteless: dough and sauce. You may write me off or judge (at your own peril) because I'm lactose intolerant, and my partner is vegan, so we get pizza without cheese. I'm from Philly, where we have the most delicious tomato pies that will rearrange your cheese-centric universe. Pizza is simple, and it's about dough and sauce. Cheese is the icing on the cake. You don't eat cake for the icing do you? DO YOU? The waitress was kind, but hilariously brought us more pizza when we said we didn't like the pizza, and that it was flavorless and sad. Ha. She brought more sadness! This time, a smaller version of the mushroom pizza, with butter on the mushrooms, which she hoped would fix the tasteless problem. *Butter is not THE or a key ingredient to good pizza! We took a few bites to be polite, but damn, to complete this ramble with a question to humanity, how on earth are there so many glowing reviews? Are these people dead in the tongue? Note, I was in a good mood headed in to the place and left in a good mood, but poorer (expensive!!) and full in a bad way during my bike ride to the pub. We won't be back to this spot, and the search continues after numerous failed attempts for a good pizza spot in Edinburgh. Will this be a fruitless endeavor? I think I can't last long here without good pizza. It's existential. I hope this brings about a flavor/soul search for Origano. I don't write this in spite at all, just hoping for better food and real love and effort in the food to come from hearing my experience. Perhaps my partner and I are outliers, but also, maybe people are just being polite. Time will tell.

A magnificent setting to enjoy excellent and varied pizzas. Perfectly soft dough. The wine is excellent An original dessert delighted my taste buds: orange panacotta The service is very warm and attentive An extremely pleasant place!

Been here and had take away multiple times and loved it but this last time got take away for a gluten free pizza and was awful the crust was both chewy and burnt.

This is a fantastic spot. Proper pizzas, cooked in a proper oven, with fresh ingredients, made and served by fabulous people. Antonia, our server was very knowledgeable, approachable and attentive, and our pizzaiolo gave me the lowdown of how they make their GF dough in-house (instead of frozen pre-made which a lot of pizza restaurants use). The result? I kid you not, the best GF pizza I have ever had out (I make a decent one myself hint hint). Top marks and thanks again for a lovely meal.

Totally love Origamo at Leith walk. The perfect place to have a cosy Italian dinner. Every pizza they serve, the ones we tried, have been delicious. Desserts are too good too.

Very nice pizza and great ambiance We had originally wanted to go to Razzo (and the comparison is pertinent) but it was closed over the new year . This place came very close, but for my money it fell slightly short. Don't get me wrong, this was still a pleasure, but overall the quality of the pizza dough just didn't quite have that je ne sais what. I will say though, the candlit tables and low lighting did make for a very romantic evening. We both had variations on spicy salami/sausage named after volcanoes, and they were both solid 8/10 pizzas. Lovely fresh toppings and good chewy crust. Desert was banoffee pie, a decent 6/10, not sure if were just super full from pizza but it didn't quite hit the spot.

Delicious, thin pizza served on wooden cutting boards. High quality products. The service is excellent, we have always found kindness, helpfulness and a welcoming smile. It was our first dinner in Edinburgh and we also treated ourselves to our last dinner in Edinburgh in this place... last dinner of this trip to this wonderful land. The added value was the gluten-free pizza, excellent! Thank you and we hope to return soon!

The best choice for original pizza in Edinburgh.

The food is good, even for someone like me, who is getting bored of pizzas in Italian restaurants. We had a goat cheese salad, cannelloni al forno, and a tiramisu. Everything was very tasty and flavourful, although it didn't feel really original. The service and atmosphere are also quite good.

The pizza and dessert were delicious (we had the funghi and the verdure pizzas and the chocolate fudge cake), the staff was very welcoming, quick service, the dim lighting gave the place a lot of personality.

Great pizzeria (with some other Italian dishes served) in an atmospheric building - offices of the old rubber mills. Lovely pizzas and very friendly service. We have been living in area for years and to our shame this was our first visit. Highly recommended.

One of the nicest pizzas ove had in years. I was in a bit of a rush but the food came pretty quickly without asking. Pizza was excellent from base to toppings and cooked perfectly. Lovely cosy atmosphere as well. I'm rarely down this side of Edinurgh, but I might make a bot more of an effort now I know it's here.

The food was delicious. I love the simple, clear menu. I was there for a friend's birthday and so big group. Lovely atmosphere and the service was both friendly, helpful and efficient! Will defo return! Lovely evening due in part of the great food and vibe

I was in the area for 4 nights and kept a going back, 3 times. The pizza is phenomenal, I would travel back to Scotland just to have dinner here again.

We wonderfully accommodated as a large group. The pizza menu has so many incredible combinations with top quality ingredients. It made the choice difficult and every pizza selected on our table was ten out of ten delicious. A great reason to return time and time again to try them all. Thank you!

Amazing Italian restaurant! We had the antipasti, goat cheese salad and pizza and it was all amazing. Some of the best Italian we have had!

There is no sign indicating that this is not a dog-friendly café. I reserved a table for two, planning to enjoy time with my partner and our small dog (about 1 kg). However, when the waitress saw our dog, she informed us that the café is not dog-friendly and we couldn't be served. This was the most unpleasant experience we've ever had. Please put a sign at the entrance stating that pets are not allowed to avoid this awkward situation, as many other cafes and restaurants do.

Came across this place whilst walking up Leith Walk looking for somewhere for dinner, we were not expecting to find somewhere serving such good gluten free pizza! A new local favourite.

Came here very hungry looking forward to a big fat cannellonni (£15.95) that ended up looking canne-lonely on a huuuuuge plate, with a conveniently small dip in the middle. The pizza is better value for the size. Were both tasty but just wasn't enough to be satisfying and not justifying the price. Garlic bread also good but measley portion of 4 thin half slices of puffy white toast for £3.95, maybe the candles are organic gluten free and free range and very expensive so the food covers that cost of those.

Me and my partner went this afternoon to try a Pizza. And we have to say that Pizza is the best in Edinburgh. There is no words to discribe the taste. Also the gentelman and Lady who served us were really nice and polaid. We gonna come back without doubt.

First time trying origano cafe, The service here was amazing! All the ladies we're extremely great provided the best service completely blew me away. The food was amazing really hearty food that you can tell is Homemade and not from a box in the freezer out back. The atmosphere was amazing was really welcoming and inviting. Would highly recommend and would come back again. Can even get a Bus from Prince street straight outside if you're like me and was on holiday so very easy to find and get too.

The atmosphere is just amazing, the candle lit tables and low lighting really gives it such a romantic feel, the nice lo-fi/ jazz aswell is absoloutely perfect. pizza was incredible and servers were lovely, will definately come here again!

It's definitely different from every pizzeria and cafe. You can see chefs making your pizza while sitting by a lovely table. The staff is amazing, food is well prepared almost tasted like in Rome, someone definitely knows what they are doing with their food. My mocha was milky and rich, definitely something new. Worth giving it a shot and going outside of the commercial centre of Edinburgh to actually taste some proper food.

Can't believe I've never came here before. Been seriously missing out. This is hands down the best and most authentic neopoliton pizza in Edinburgh. It's not even a competition. The dough was perfectly cooked. Light. Crispy. Tasty. The quality of the bread in general was just amazing. The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant was great too. Perfect for a date night, or special occasion. If you are a pizza guy like me then this is a must visit in Edinburgh. I would imagine that you will be as impressed as i was. 10/10

Super cute backyard pizzeria, delivery services go all out and yet the food from ordering to the table takes less than 5 minutes. Price and taste great.

Expensive - adequate service from an unfriendly brusque waitress - wine (red) served at twice room temperature - starter was sharing platter that lacked at least several of the items advertised including olives - only positive was that the other ( friendlier) waitress offered us more water. I don't usually post reviews on restaurants but in this case I make an exception. Poor and very pricey.

Very friendly service, great pizza. Despite the restaurant being full, we were still served between reservations. Great atmosphere. There were 4 of us and we were all very satisfied.

Hands down one of the best pizzas that I have ever had. We tried the fungi and Valtellina and both were remarkably great. They have the perfect amount of sauce and topping and the dough is cooked to perfection. It is delicious from center to the crust with amazing leopard patterns on the crust. The staff are cordial and the ambient is really nice. Overall, a great experience.

I ate one of the best gluten-free pizzas ever, I had a capricciosa and I can tell you that it deserved a lot, the super friendly service, spectacular atmosphere 😍 if you happen to be allergic like me to gluten and eggs, trust this pizzeria, I celebrated the birthday well my wedding anniversary ❤️ I recommend it.
