Ahora estamos hablando sobre parte core-i. e. , comida.

I wouldn't usually go into a smaller restaurant like this, but I'm very glad I did. I saw locals eating here, which is always a good sign. I was staying in Chinatown for the night and just had to try some of the food. I was politely greeted and shown to a table, given a menu. The English was good, but not great. Not a problem. As a small restaurant what looks like family owned I wouldn't have expected perfect English, there wasn't really a language barrier, they tried their best. A table opposite me with an older English couple weren't so tolerant. Their constant complaining about trivial things was extremely annoying. The food was very good, traditional Chinese. Exactly what I wanted. Not costly, I paid £12 for two good sized courses including the automatically added gratuity which was 12% I was completely happy to pay. It's a simple place, I wouldn't go there for a birthday or something. Just to stop for some good and convenient food.

My dining companion and I spun the golden wheel of fortune this day. Being seasoned connosseiurs of the genre, we were completely open to the opportunities that awaited us.Of the three dragons in this stretch of the strip, we went for the smaller of the group, thinking we would be better looked after, and secretly, believed that they would all be served from the same kitchen.I hope not, because I'd like to try the other two. The food was absolutely fine, and the chilli squid was amazing. The one thing that we really found disconcerting was the strange taste of the cooking oil. Thankfully most of what we ate was steamed and this was really yummy.Price wise it was OK, and it seemed to be busy and popular. Our choices included (with a score)Prawn dumplings 8/10Pork Cheung fung 5/10Chilli squid 9/10Shu Mai 5/10Scallop dumpling 6/10Chinese Broccoli with Oyster sauce 9/10Hardly a banquet, however these are the basic staples upon which most diners will base their meal on.I would say this is a good place to go, the staff are pleasant and they were attentive. But with all the choice along Gerrard street and surrounds, this wouldn't be my first choice.

We arrived for a meal and were brusquely seated. The restaurant was busy which we thought was a good sign, although it is more like a fast food cafeteria in its lighting and ambience. We ordered drinks - a bottle of Chinese tea and a bottle of Plum juice. Both were supposed to be refreshing cold drinks but were in fact luke-warm and tepid. Worse still the sell-by date on the bottle was a year old! The idea of eating there made us feel nauseous so we left having told the waiter they were serving out-of date drinks which had patently been stored inappropriately. The waiter called other waiters who began to shout at us, the ranting included - that we had insulted them by saying that their drinks were old (the date on the bottle was proof which they didn't want to talk about)- that in China being rude about the hosts food and drink was unacceptable- that we must payWe asked them to stop shouting at us - but they just carried on and only stopped when we said we would pay the £7.00 for the drinks which were obviously left behind and probably served to someone else. The whole episode shook us up and was conducted in front of all other customers. There are better places out there to eat in and get treated with a little respect - they aren't hard to find so give this sorry excuse for a restaurant a wide berth!!

With so many places to choose from in China Town we were disappointed to have picked this one. Wanted a quick cheap lunch with tea and a diet coke. Tea was OK coke not diet and was served in the can. Lunches were inedible one came on a very cold plate and the rice was stone cold. We asked if the rice was supposed to be served cold and were told no. The rice went back to the kitchen only to return in the same condition. The sweet and sour pork simply inedible. The other dish arrived (eventually) and was just bland soup packed with noodles. From my other reviews you will see my average ratings are 4 and usually if something is bad I give people the benefit of the doubt.

I am originally from san Francisco area and I eat Chinese food pretty regularly. I have also eaten Chinese food in different parts of the US, Italy, france, and Canada. this was our first trip to London, so go into Chinatown to find Chinese food. as a general rule, we look thru the windows to see how busy they are and if the majority of the customers are Asian, the establishment must be good. we could not have been more wrong.this was our first restaurant visit on London....our rice plate was served on a plate wrapped in aluminum foil. the gravy on the rice remind me of chicken broth... the plain fried rice had rice and egg...no veggies(not even the frozen kind) or green onions.the service was ok, not bad. we wondered thru Chinatown at 5:30pm to get dinner before going to the theater. we we had plenty of time to eat.two rice plates and a plain fried rice cost 35pounds(about $50). it was expensive and tasteless.as a final note...London is an expensive town to visit, but it was very interesting. we went to at least 2 resturants a day. since this was our first meal in town, I was worried that all our meals on this trip will taste this bad. we told our inn keeper about this restaurant, and they immediately gave us a list of resturants they would eat at. this was our only negative eating experience in London.

The service and rudeness of the staff meant we cancelled our main courses, but not before they had tried to charge us extra for a few shreds of cucumber due to the dozen shreds not being enough to compliment the duck. The cucumber served with the 1/2 duck wasn't even enough to feed a 3 year old and a 5 year old.The staff then had the audacity to add 12.5% service charge which we refused to pay and started shouting as a result. My boyfriend and I decided to visit china town on out last night in London and decided on this place as seemed a reasonable price and good set menus......really wish we hadn't. ...at first it was ok we got asked for drinks promptly although a diet coke now comes in a can with a straw and you get charged £2.50 for the pleasure :/ we got our first course quite quickly and tasted ok nothing outstanding but still ok- that's the only positive. After our soup course they brought out the duck course, which the girl shredded on front of us though she made it seem like a monumental task while we waited awkwardly she then left the table without bringing us plates to make up our duck pancakes on, luckily she hadn't cleared away our soup dishes so we used the plates under the soup bowls :/ after this course we thought we would make the place look tidy and piled all the dishes at end of the table thinking they would get the hint and clear them away...nope they just stood around near the counter which we were right next to while they laughed and joked on with a girl who had come in to visit. Very unprofessional more so when on her way out she slapped the waiter on the back to say bye and called out to him whilst he was serving a customer ! Next they brought out our main course finally moving the dishes around to fit it on and then as the table was pretty full despite us piling the dirty dishes knocked my boyfriends drink all over the table. They THEN took the pile of dishes away before getting a cloth a clearing the spillage which was dripping onto the floor (priorities?!) They then left to stand around again.....again we waited, the lady at the counter looked puzzled so I then pointed out the obvious that we yet again had no plates to eat off and my boyfriends drink hadn't been replaced ! Absolutely disgusted at the level of unprofessional attitudes and service especially when they have the cheek to add a 12% mandatory service charge on the bill! With plenty other restaurants around you would think they would make more of an effort in providing the basics to a meal like a plate ! Totally ruined our last night as overall we were there nearly 2 hours as they left us waiting for frankly not outstanding food.

Chinese cuisine is not for everyone so I went with my daughter who also appreciates the food. We walked through Soho watching for a suitable venue and I was on the lookout for the spicy Szechuan style. We found a small busy place and were lucky to have a table immediately. No fancy décor but it has an authentic menu and a Western menu, from which we ordered four dishes and two forms of rice. The crispy beef was a little sweet and not spicy enough, the sweet and sour pork was ordinary but had fresh vegetables, the cashew style prawns was tasty as was the ginger chicken. Surprisingly there was no Jasmine tea so we ordered plum juice which was a pleasant surprise. The portions were generous and we could have done with three or perhaps even two dishes. So overall I suppose better value for money than the total bill we paid. They don't provide eating bowls but rather plates, which makes consumption more difficult. We saw some natives eating using their rice bowl as a personal bowl and adding some ingredients to the top.

So, it was the 23rd of December, and London was glittering in its pre-Xmas finery, everyone rushing along with good humour affecting even the most hardened on Metropolitan hearts, rushing to meet friends, rushing home, rushing out, rushing to buy last minute presents, and darkness had fallen across the town, but it was light as day under the electric good cheer, and we were looking for a Chinese meal before our evening trip to the Theatre.Well, normally we would just go straight to the good old Cheung Chen Foo, you know, the one with the Totem pole, but that has sadly gone wherever Chinese restaurants go when they are no more, so we needed to branch out, take a risk, lay down our taste-buds in the name of research, step out of the shadows, and we happened upon the Oriental Dragon. We were led to our table, we divested our many and complicated clothes. The place was bustling, full of actual Chinese people (a good sign) and (without going into details, ‘cos I can’t actually remember them) we were quickly served beers and then dinner. And it was good, and tasty, and indeed different, interestingly authentic and a little spicier than usual and none the worse for that.Anyway we must have got them on an ON day (done that joke at the top of the review), because I don’t think that we could have been at the same restaurant as everyone else reviewing here. I thought that it was really very good all round, and will certainly go again – can’t say much more than that!

There are better and cheaper restaurants in Chinatown with better food , better service and better presentation.

An old favourite of mine since the late 1980s,when the crabs were a mere 85p now £6 but still the best, always good clean cooking, swift chaotic service but you always get there in the end, which is part of the carnival of eating here, especially on my most recent visit as i blundered in to the year of the sheep, with no booking etc, situation was hopeless but the staff were superb, served rapido and nicely!!! Many folk seem to be unaware of the fun of eating in Chinatown, dont expect eurotrash service, just enjoy yourselves!!

Arrived very hungry 4 adults 2 children. Had to wait for table, which is ok. We were led up to a room upstairs, past all the dirt and grime and given a table that was incredibly wonky. They moved us thankfully. We ordered our drinks and were handed the menu's which appeare to be a good selection. How ever the serving staff decided to to do a reggie Perrin. Eventually we found one who took our order. Hell had frozen over by the time our food arrived, however it's a shame that our food had frozen over as well. It was all cold!!!! We sent it back. 10mins later 2 dishes arrived (clearly reheated). We waited for the other 5 dishes, 2 of which were seafood, but king Arthur's Knights had found the holy grail before they arrived. They didn't arrive by the way. I went downstairs to speak to the manger to ask where our food was and that I didn't want reheated seafood. She responded "you ordered 7 dishes". I politely answered "yes but we sent them back to you as they were cold and you have only sent 2 back". "You ordered 7" was her response. By this stage I was starting to lose what little will to live I had. I informed that we wanted to cancel the order and leave. She very rudely said yes just go. I have never left a restaurant in my life so this experience was a first. I cannot recommend this place to anyone, even those I dislike. Jesus himself couldn't resurrect this place!

We arrived at this restaurant about 4.30pm after an afternoon of activities in and around Leicester Square in London, we were quickly sown to a table and menus left for us to peruse, the food choices were good and the wine list fairly comprehensive, we duly gave our orders and then things went downhill, we waited sometime for the starters, there were only two, prawn crackers and a Sweet corn and Chicken soup, the mains took quite a bit longer and we noticed that at least two lots of customers left without service, when our meals arrived there was one dish we did not order and it took an amazingly long time to get the waiter to understand that it was not ours!!! by this time another set of potential customers had walked out without service, while we were eating I should think nearly the whole of the serving staff were sitting down at the next table to us eating. At no time during the session did any staff come to ask if we where satisfied with our meal. The food was good and hot but the plates to eat from were small, drinks etc were satisfactory.Overall the cost was £113.00 for 10 dishes, a bottle of Chardonnay, an Orange juice and Tiger beer, including service charge, not an establishment that I would visit again.

We always visit Gerrard St on our yearly trips to London and this time tried the Oriental Dragon for the first time. It was early so the restaurant was not busy the waiter spoke very little English so I had to point to the items we wanted it was also very brightly lit. Although the food was good it was spoilt by the dishes the food was served on and our bowls being stone cold so it was a case of eat quickly or eat cold food. When we asked for the bill it was not itemised just a price on a receipt, when I queried this I was given an itemised bill with 12.5% service charge added which I feel is totally wrong. The toilets left a lot to be desired no loo roll and dirty. A few simple changes and this could be a nice restaurant.

We were in up London and decided to go to Gerrard Street, at the heart of Chinatown, Soho for some food.Picked this restaurant as not tried before and it was reasonable in price. The restaurant was busy, being the 27th Dec, but managed to get a seat. The service was the usual Chinatown style, functional, polite, but not really friendly or complete. They forgot rice bowls for us, also spoons to serve with, and plates were cold, even the plates the food came on were cold, so food went cold very quickly, not good. The Service Charge of 12.5%, automatically put on the bill, was not earned. That is why I detest this, as they charge you the extortionate London 12.5% and do **** all to earn it. It should be outlawed putting on bill automatically. The delivery of food was fast, probably due to the fact they want a high turnover to maximise profit (Good if you want a quick turnaround).Food quality and portion size was mixed, but nothing really bad, and nothing really exceptional, see below for detais:We had the Set Dinner No.3 for the 2 of us at £16.80 per head.Chicken & Sweetcorn Soup - Tasted good and big portionMixed Starters (Seaweed; 4 * tiny Spring Rolls & 2 " a Dim Sum) - Small portion, but tasty1/4 Crispy Duck - Tasted delicious, but smallest quarter duck we have ever seenSteamed Vege Dish - OK in size and tasteKung Po Chicken - OK in size, very tastyOver all an OK meal, but not going to rush back.

Having been instructed by our Grandson to give a review of this restaurant, in Gerrard Street London, I have to give full credit to him for choosing it and for his comments in this review. We took Max to London in half-term and as he enjoys trying different food, which we encourage on our foreign holidays, we incorporated a few dining experiences in the break. Our evening in China Town was one of these experiences and after having viewed all the shops, delicatessen’s and restaurants he declared that he wanted “Crispy Duck” for his meal. Now roast duck is a favourite of his and frequently requested, though not always granted, when visiting us with his sister and parents and this was reinforced by the sight of so many ducks on display in windows. After studying a number of menus outside the restaurants he declared his choice, based on the fact that his chosen one declared the portion size of the Crispy Duck.We could not persuade him to have a combination of foods from the wide selection that were listed on the menu and he stuck to his request that he wanted half a duck, with pancakes and accompaniments, all to himself. My wife and I opted for a selection of Dim Sum, with friendly advice from the waiter, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meal with the verdict on the CD being “lush, the best I have had”. I am sure that his opinion must have been shared by a number of people as the restaurant was very busy, with large numbers of young people present and as we left, feeling very content, there was a que waiting to enter. The food was good, the service fast, the staff friendly and the atmosphere was like that of a large family meal, with many of the other diners being of Chinese ethnicity. So on behalf of Max I recommend this restaurant and the Crispy Duck. I can also confirm that the Dim Sum were very good too though we had to resort to knives and forks as our skills with chopsticks were none existent.

Twice cooked pork and vegetables with rice and a soup, and pork dumplings.£13.30 with jasmine tea Oh my - the twice cooked pork was wonderfully spicy, with fatty and crispy pork slices - just as I like them and really, really tasty. The chili oil, the tiny black beans and spring onions in the dish created explosions in my mouth and I simply couldn't stop eating! The soup was a mild broth with eggs and tomato, and beautifully flavoured. Unfortunately the pork dumplings were not very good. I might have left them too long, but the dough was not as light as I would expect, and the filling was wet and soggy, and exploded as I bit into one. I didn't finish those. The service was quick and friendly, and the waiter explained that the twice cooked pork would be spicy, which was kind of him. So if you're in Chinatown, do check out this unassuming eatery! I will definitely make another visit.

Pro: NoneCons: A) the food were awful. We went for Shanghai dishes and ordered 1) Shanghai fired buns 2) Shanghai style Drunken chicken 3) Spicy beef noodles 4) Dumplings. First of all, the Shanghai fired buns were a disgrace, they were not Shanghai fired buns but were just the traditional "North East style of China's fired buns". It was a completely cheat and tasted so different to what it supposed to be! The drunken chicken was cooked incorrectly as well as they just cut the slices (chicken) and mixed them with the Chinese wine. Spicy beef noodles were okay but the dumplings were agaiin too big and the ingredients were rubbish - too much fat pork inside.B) The service was horrible, staffs were rude and impolite, service was slow - we waited more than 45 mins for the Shanghai fired buns. C) The decoration was cheap and badly decorated, as I think the chairs and tables cost no more than £100 all together. D) Not cheap at all, there are many other more value for money restaurants in China Town. The thing that I hate the most is the fact that they pretend knowing how to cook the traditional Shanghai food but in fact, they don't. Their chefs were actually from North East China but pretend they can cook the southern Chinese food.Avoid at all cost unless you want to be cheated!

One can usually tell in Chinatown which restaurants are the closest to authentic by the number of Chinese customers they have. Based on that premise: Oriental Dragon does indeed seem more authentic than some others.Waiter was standard Chinatown: not friendly, but incredibly professional, swift, and attentive; service remained incredibly fast throughout the evening. Wine was quite expensive (though delicious), however food was not expensive (and still delicious). We ordered a large chow mein and crispy duck pancakes, with some rice.Rice was delicious, and the chow mein noodles were superb. What really caught our attention was the duck: it was crisped at the table. The waiter brought out the large tray of duck, freshly cooked, and provided us with the pancakes and spring onion. He then proceeded to crisp and mash the duck up at the table beside us - a great thing to watch. The taste, predictably, was exquisite. This is definitely one of my favourite Chinatown restaurants, and has been so ever since my first visit to it when I was a lot younger than I am now.

Opted for the vegetarian set menu as we were off to the theatre and didn't have too much time. Having studied dozens of menus in Chinatown we opted for The Oriental Dragon - wish we hadn't. Rude staff!! Very mediocre food!! Very expensive bill!! The soup (Hot & Sour which was not very good at all) arrived at the same time as a platter of seaweed, spring rolls etc!! At the time we wondered why they weren't staggered - then it all became apparent!! All the staff suddenly sat down at the table next to ours and tucked into a banquet of their own. All service stopped whilst they ate!! Finally when they had all finished and cleared up service resumed and we got our main courses and rice. The rice was ok, the vegetables were quite nice, the tofu in a red chilli sauce was pretty unpleasant. Squishy runny tofu in a fairly nasty sauce!! The bill (£45 for two) arrived on a scrap of paper with just the price - no breakdown as to how they had arrived at this number. I queried and then it was explained that they added 12.5% service charge - what a bloody cheek (I always tip, unless there is a good reason not to) and what a bloody rip-off!! There are dozens and dozens of alternatives if you want chinese in Chinatown - go any where but NOT to The Oriental Dragon!! I had not eaten in Chinatown for about fifteen years and was really looking forward to something a little different and perhaps better than what i can eat locally!! I should have prepared, done some research and I should have AVOIDED The Oriental Dragon!!

A good home cooked dinner of Kung Pao Chicken and Shrimp Dumplings - accompanied by a bowl of rice and a couple of Tsingtao beers. The KPC was really spicy and absolutely delicious. The dumplings were the highlight though. Don't be put off by the wait which is to allow for these succulent morsels to be properly steamed. Four very tasty shrimp dumplings for £3.50 and the whole meal for <£25 with service charge. In an area dominated by bland 'lowest common denominator' dishes this restaurant is a bit special. Try it!

I know Chinatown can be very expensive and although this wasn't in the high bracket it definitely wasn't value for money. We had 2 soups, Won Ton (ok) and Chicken and Sweetcorn (tasteless). Our mains were Sweet and Sour Chicken and Chicken with Cashew nuts both with fried rice these were just about ok ( why are some Chinese restaurants not able to do proper fried rice?) One can of coke and a small vodka with lemondade, the bill came to £47. Pretty expensive for a basic 2 course meal. No complimentary prawn crackers given ( they are so cheap to make) surely a few pence worth could be given to customers. Unfortunately the morning after we both had a severe upset stomach so I would recommend that you Walk on by theis restaurant!!

Fried rice and 2 of the dumplings were alright. Everything else was terrible. Prawn crackers were stale. Crispy noodles were too crispy, nothing like how most restaurants serve it. It tasted old, covered in this horrible sauce (soy sauce I'm guessing), the meat wasn't 'mixed', hardly any vegetables on it. Just because some customers aren't Chinese, these restaurants shouldn't think we dont know anything about Chinese food.

We ordered drinks - 2.50 for a can of coke or 3.80 for a small bottle of beer and then after ordering I went up to the toilets upstairs that were really in-grained filthy and in very poor repair. Should have left at that point as for the rest of the meal I was worried about hygiene. The table was so cheap it kept tipping nearly losing drinks. The floor of the restaurant itself was also unclean. We ordered chicken with cashews which was really watery chicken that I couldn't eat as the consistency of the meat was so off putting. A chill pork dish tasted strongly of salt and nothing else and was also not enjoyable. The rice was ok. The starter of sesame prawn toast was nice in a greasy way. The bill was 49 and came unitemised so we had to ask to see the itemised version which was correct. The meal was disappointing and I left very unhappy and feeling ripped off.

My background being at least half Shanghainese, I came here to test the place. In terms of the culinary skills, the chef is really of the first order, producing food faithful to the original, rather than compromising on quality. Naturally, the prices are not the cheapest, but far from expensive, nonetheless. The restaurant is definitely underrated, and quite the hidden gem if one is searching for a change from the typical Cantonese food on offer in Chinatown. The traditional highlights include Stir Fried Eel, Braised Pork Ball (a giant meatball), and Dongpo Pork, even the simple steamed rice is more refined than elsewhere. This is never going to live with the likes of Hakkasan or A. Wong in terms of clever menus with interesting presentation, but instead offers a unique and quality insight into a region of China that is less known by most.

I wrote a full review and it was swallowed by this wretched computer so here goes the punctual version. Clean, white, simple, better than average for the area, nice if occasionally distracted staff, music on but not too offensive. Shared excellent, crisp and fresh spring rolls. My Lovely Companion had spicy tofu which she declared to be excellent although the texture of tofu makes me faint with disgust so I can't comment! I had prawn balls with fried rice, which turned into king prawns with fried rice as they had run out of the balled version. There was a good helping of everything. All was fresh and hot and quickly served. MLC and I shared mixed vegetables as well, which were well cooked and complemented everything as they ought. She also had steamed rice, which was all good. Tsingtao beers. In the crapshoot that is eating in Chinatown, this is a safe pair of hands. They should do well.
