Oriental City in Leeds

I’ll start off by saying I have visited once before and had a much better experience, which I have previously left a good review on. However on this occasion the visit was shocking. Restaurant was freezing cold. The service was none existent, constantly had to chase staff to order food/drinks, no staff attended to check if everything was okay. This can partially partially be excused if the food was good, but it was dreadful. Cold, tasteless and the time it spent to come was shocking, waited around an hour between starters and mains. Won’t be returning, they’re much better options elsewhere, more central to the city centre I might add! I also think it is massively over priced based on tonight’s experience.

The supermarket under the restaurant is fantastic for oriental food. They have almost everything you could need. Very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is one of the best Chinese restaurants I have visited. Authentic Chinese food. I would highly recommend a visit here.

Had lunch 17th Jan Friday 2025…. Ordered 8 types dim sum n seafood wet noodles to share. Good portions but today the Chef over salted all the dishes. We did not enjoy n gave feedback. Owner …please check that your chef is not unhappy??

Todos los platos estaban salados en exceso en gran medida... así que la comida no era sabrosa en absoluto... ¡sabía a sal sólo n sin sabor! Full dim sum menu, with some Sichuan and even some Macau dishes. It’s attached to a large Asian food market. Very 1930’s Hong Kong style. The entry is at the back through the car park of the food supermarket and parking can be complex so make sure you check the parking rules! They have brisk service (authentically Cantonese) do you will need to be firm when ordering, particularly on Sundays. They have a wonderful busy, bustling atmosphere especially on weekends. Standouts: Solid har gow and wonderful, fragrant prawn chive dumplings. Cuttlefish dumpling is the delicious stand- out along with the choy with ginger. Excellent refreshing fresh jasmine tea! Not Strongest: Fried squid is not so crispy, a little greasy Service: Excellent, but weekends especially can be very busy and you may need to check on dishes

Food is authentic and prepared well and fast. Great menu and variety of dishes, for all tastes. Situated on 1st floor above bakery, next to large oriental supermarket. Parking terrible, there simply isn't enough, even with small overflow car park. Supermarket attached all authentic imported foods, great selection and variety. Staff are friendly and helpful and very efficient. Expect to wait at busy times for restaurant if you haven't pre booked. Not the most glamorous of venues and it's showing its age somewhat.....however it's the food that matters, and you will not be disappointed, it's fresh, quick and great size portions. Reasonably priced. Well worth a visit. Enjoy!

The female assistant manager has a very bad attitude. She has no service at all. She is extremely rude and will not help her in the future.

It's been a long time since I went for Yum Cha with friends since i don't live near any chinese restaurants. The main car park isn't very big but we found parking easily on side streets. We didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes for a table even at Sunday lunchtime which was nice. We were served quickly and the food arrived quickly and tasted great. Prices were very reasonable too. My only minor gripe was that it took a long time to get the bill. But it was a minor thing from which otherwise was a nice trip. I'll definitely be back.

Food was bad, I have stomach problems after my dinner there, waitress rude, dirty toilets and expensive for the experience

The steamed pork buns were pretty good but the other food was very bland, though it was fresh and in big portions. The service was good and the surroundings were quite nice. Perhaps they do some tastier dishes but I won't be rushing back to try them, based on what we had.

Incredible dim sum at amazing prices. Honestly, £5 per dim sum with free parking in Leeds city centre is incredible , especially given the quality of the food. We treated ourselves to a 2-meat dish of pork and duck and bloody hell, it was amazing (we are both from Hong Kong and it was like stepping back home). Even though it's a 40 minute drive from home to here, we will be back. Heck, the supermarket on the ground floor is an added bonus too.

Excelente - este es el mejor dimsum que he tenido en el Reino Unido para la experiencia auténtica. No esperes un servicio educado. No esperes poder hacer cambios pedantes en el menú. Siéntese, tome el menú tenue y marque los pedidos que desea hacer, pida una gran olla de té y siéntese y deje que los platos pequeños vengan a usted. Esto es mucho más auténtico dimsum que la mayoría de los lugares, todo sabe y parece que ha sido hecho por ellos - pastel de nabo en salsa XO, congee con cerdo y huevo en conserva, albóndigas de gamba, bollos cha sui, patas de pollo, albóndigas shanghai, pegatinas de olla, y una orden de gloria de la mañana en ajo (wok hei! ! ). Excelentes precios, y obtendrá la experiencia completa de un maníaco y bullicioso restaurante chino. Estábamos visitando Leeds desde Newcastle, ¡volvíamos a este lugar!

Love coming here for dim sum, especially the cheung fun and fried prawn dumplings. Service could be better but that's just usual for an authentic Chinese restaurant :)

This is a traditional Chinese restaurant that serves not only side dishes but also dim sum.

Hot takeout here, roasted meats were soooooo good, rice is perfect big portions. If you want authentic Cantonese food this is it, coming from a local ;) brings me back home ( HKer approved 💛)

I just had lunch here today, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We ordered dim sum including the rice porridge, but it tasted like it had gone bad. When we brought this up to the waiter, he initially insisted that it was freshly made today. However, after we asked him to try it, he agreed to cancel it. Aside from the porridge issue, the rest of the food was decent. What really ruined the experience, though, was an unpleasant encounter with a waitress (or manager, whatever position she is in). When we checked out, we realized we had been charged twice for dessert. I went back to ask for a refund, but the waitress, with a very tough and unfriendly attitude, suggested I take a dessert to-go instead, which I didn't want. After I declined, she became extremely rude and gave me the money back without returning my receipt. She acted as if I was causing trouble, when in fact, they had just served me spoiled food earlier without any apology. It’s frustrating and unacceptable to be treated like this, especially when the restaurant made the initial mistakes. To top it off, I now have concerns about getting food poisoning from the bad porridge.

Worst experiance ever! Avoid at all costs!!!!!, staff are very rude and don't have basic customer service skills, i was told the food will take around 15-20 mins to prepare after 30 mins I asked how long will it take and I was advised that the chef is not working in a very abrupt / rude way like they was angry at me for asking, finally after 1 hour the food came.. It was below average, this food is not authentic or fresh, it tasted like it was frozen and microwaved, after waiting soo long and paying alot I had high expectations but was left dissapointed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS JOKE OF A RESTAURANT!

The bald headed with glasses was abit rude! Didn't even acknowledge us when we came into the restaurant and walking out! The food was good, lots of variety of selections! The price is reasonable, cheaper than most Yorkshire's dim sum! If I live in Leeds it would be my go too place! Next door is the bakeries and next one after that is the Supermarket! 3 in 1 not bad!

Great variety of Cantonese and Szechuan Chinese food

It was Bengali New Year day and so, the three of us went to Oriental City Restaurant in Leeds. What a wonderful hearty lunch we had! The waiting was a little off-putting because there was NO ONE at the counter for quite a while and we started feeling quite uncomfortable and then a guy who spoke the language came and jumped the queue...anyway once we were seated, our food arrived and we simply dug in. The food is tasty, portions are generous and the prices are extremely reasonable. I just loved the dim sums and the ribs! The pork and the duck...I loved it all. We ate till we could eat no more and then, had the rest of the food packed. The only issue we faced was that the girl serving us spoke no English and could not clarify our question about a rice item we had ordered. This is unpretentious, hearty food and I have no hesitation recommending this place to those who like Chinese cuisine (who doesn't). Proof that I loved the food is that I forgot to take photos. Will definitely revisit before I leave.

Nicely designed restaurant with a good car park. A good menu serving the usual restaurant/takeaway away favourites. If you want to try the ultra authentic Chinese dishes then you should ask the staff for the Chinese menu. Such cool things as Casserole, beef brisket, tripe, frogs legs, crispy pork belly and many more. But I wish they had green ginger scallion sauce available as condiment. Fair prices. Good portion. Take away containers easily available. Dim Sum available at lunch/day time, not at night. Staff are friendly and efficient. 5 star.

Only ordered for delivery once from them so can’t say for sure this painful experience is reflective of their usual quality. But I guess I’ll never find out. I was weirdly angry when I saw the food I ordered. Utterly outrageous, on every front, from taste, quality of ingredients, to presentation. Deep fried wanton is not wanton at all. Just deep fried folded flat dough with some stale unrecognisable flat stuffing. Sautéed scallop is not sautéed at all, just some over flavoured frozen scallop oddly soaked in salty pak Choi soup. It should be a crime to sell anyone this kind of ‘food’

Favourite Chinese restaurant in Leeds

I've been going here for years, and the food is always great. Love their dim sum menu with loads of choice and love their char siu chow mein and the lamb black pepper dish 😍

We went for Dim Sum which was all very tasty. Particularly loved the wonton and the bao buns which were delicious. Very good service. All very clean and friendly. Would definitely love to go again and highly recommend it. Was so happy to get a second visit here when I was in Leeds. The food is still just as tasty and prices very reasonable.

Improved so much!! Food and service is great. They’re parking downstairs and you can grab some Chinese groceries whilst there.

Waited over 50 mins just for the starters (after chasing twice!) even though the restaurant was only about half full. We saw 3 groups of people arrive AFTER we’d ordered and they got their food BEFORE us! One of our mains arrived well after the rest - we’d pretty much finished everything, and again, we had to chase it up. Only got quick verbal apology for all this. Manager blamed it on the kitchen, Front of house blamed it on the manager, Waiter blamed it on being ‘the restaurant being too busy’ - hopefully this review will help alleviate that problem for him. Only reason I’ve not left 1 star is that the food, when it actually arrived, was good

Been twice now and I'm pretty sure we'll be going more than twice more. Very friendly attentive staff, with none of the rush that happens in other establishments. The restaurant was very clean with pleanty of room on the tables for your food. HOT plates which made a pleasant change, the menu was well presented and had so much on it that it may be an idea to check on line first to save time. The food was delicious and was the equal of any other chinese including take away ( which they do). To summarise - my now "first choice go to" restaurant in leeds. One last thing, the car park and the surrounding streets get very busy.

The food was overall mediocre. But this was nothing compared to the rudest staff we have ever come across. She was an older woman with short purplish hair. We had booked a table online but she said this was not in her book where bookings were written down by her. She basically said online bookings do not work when she is concerned. If this online system does not work then do remove it from your website!! When she repeated the time of our booking, she muttered under her breath "I can hear!". We are appalled at her rudeness, the management should look into her behaviour. We will definitely not be returning to Oriental City again and will warn our family and friends to avoid this place. Such rudeness should not be tolerated. We do not pay you to be insulted!!

Celebrations for daughters birthday. Food ok, but service poor. Miserable waiter asked in a rude tone if we had a birthday cake. This is despite me providing one discreetly on arrival to another member of staff. He then said if you haven't got one, we don't have one. I told him yes, but it was a surprise, but he just scowled and walked off. The cake was eventually brought in its box with candles with no happy birthday music playing as we were promised.

They can't even bring three meals at the same time had to wait 25 minutes.in between my meal and my wife and Daughters then the waitress saying they was on there way But my Wife and Daughter had walked out by this time If you are Chinese you will get served FIRST

Delicious and authentic dishes including a wide range of dim sum.. Friendly, efficent and prompt service... Worth the 10 - 15 min walk away from the town centre.. Attached to a cash and carry so you can pick up ingredients on the way out!

The food was pretty good, the people I was with said it's normally better but it was still nice food. The service was pretty bad we kept having to ask for things multiple times as they seemed to have forgotten. Dim sum isn't always available.

Food is not too bad. Got a parking ticket with my meal though. I was parked at their car park, but there is a 1 hour stay limit. It is unreasonable to expect our family to finish our meal out in an hour.

Great Chinese restaurant, one of the best of its class

Visited today for Sunday dimsum also had crispy roast belly pork, duck Cantonese crispy noodles and veg as main and it was all delicious. Dim sum was fantastic best I have ever eaten. Service was fast, efficient and very friendly. The atmosphere was brilliant lots of families, couples and people on their own enjoying lovely food. Was my first visit here but will be visiting every time we are in Leeds.

A really nice local restaurant close to town and with its own parking area too! Great for banquet dinners and dim sum lunches. Highly recommend, the cash & carry downstairs is also great for grabbing much needed Asian supplies.

Every dish was too salty for me, especially the peking duck that was soaked in soy sauce ☹️ which was a shame because the way it’s made was perfect for my taste.

Attended with 4 of us. Seated quick then left for about half hour. Finally ordered drinks with one server and food with another I ordered special fried rice asked what it came with 'everything ' assuming duck and so in. All 4 meals were boiled bland meat with not even a hint of salt and pepper. We used half a bottle of soy sauce between us trying to liven it up. When servers came I didn't even take my leftovers home but did mention the food 'does your chef use seasonings like salt and pepper' the response ' people don't like it' no apologies or care. Bill for 4 was £140! Absolutely disgusting please see pics and avoid at all cost

The atmosphere was really beautiful and calm and I was pleasant surprise to know that they perform weddings at the venue which was really beautiful and the staff were super friendly and accommodating.

Been going here for years, quality is mostly excellent. Some dishes a bit hit and miss - depends on what chef they have on the night. A bit pricy for some things but overall decent value.

This has to be the best dine in Chinese restaurants I've ever been to. The restaurant itself is stunning, the layout and decor is 2nd to none. The staff were all very friendly and polite and the food was out of this world. Loved every bit of it, so tasty and plenty of it. I work these ways a lot so I can safely say.... I'll definitely be back 💯

Food is always fresh tasty and quite frankly brilliant whether take-out on sitting in, if I had four thumb's it would get four thumbs-up 👍🏾 Just had a special family meal and they made teddy bear 🐻 ice cubes for the kids, even I was jealous!!

WOW first time today 26 Jun 2023 I have special fried rise with curry sauce and it was amazing the meat was spot on and the rice was very fluffy it was all just rice for me thank you all so much 😊
