I have been to visit the orange elephant twice in the last month, with the intention of regular visits including a seasonal membership every year from next season onwards. Today and previous visit, were to say, extremely unpleasant experiences. From reading other peoples reviews as below, it looks like I am not alone in saying the woman who owns the orange elephant is very rude and obnoxious. I found her tone very offensive and felt really looked down upon. The first visit I had, I was greeted with a disgusting manner, rushing us along so they could serve other customers instead, giving us no time to choose ice creams (with a baby and other children in toe) this caused a lot of unnecessary stress. I explained we were choosing ice cream and got very rude mannered responses from the owner herself. I let it go because although I was distressed it was busy, but still felt like this was very unprofessional. The second visit, I queued again with my children and baby, to be greeted with the same manner whilst trying to chose an ice cream for myself and two other children with a young baby also. The staff this time, rudely asked people to go around us and completely ignored the fact that we were waiting and trying to order. Again I let this go. Later that day, I was approached by the owner in a disgusting manner and mood to discuss a situation but to be talked down in a manner you wouldn’t even speak to a child with. As a 36 year old woman, I did not deserve to be spoken to in such a way. I then raised my concerns with the above complaints to be met with nothing but backchat. I’ve never met someone so rude and do not intend to return. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and unfortunately this will leave a bitter taste.

Took 4 of my granddaughters & their parents here for a treat, paid £55 for 8 ice-creams, that was ok it was a treat for the grandkids but when the first 2 arrived we asked what flavours & were told I don't know I just made what you ordered, I'm busy just lick them to find out & hurry up as they are melting? Not helpful, they had written down the order, not hard to rip off each line & tuck under each bowl as you go, won't go back.

We waited almost a year to return here to sample more of their delicious ice cream. And it was so good we visited twice. Nice big car park, which is needed on a weekend with families visiting not just for ice cream and sundaes, but also for the play area and orchard walk. Staff were friendly and helpful as we queried some of the flavours available when we visited e.g. muddy wellies is mint choc chip. We hope to return next year on our travels again.

We have passed the orange elephant stood in the field on our many trips up & down the M5. We finally got around to visiting the ice cream parlour. On our approach to the farm we had to stop to allow the farm's own herd of cows to cross the road, my goodness that is a big herd of cows! Plenty of free on-site parking which is a real bonus. Massive selection of home made ice creams, milkshakes, sundaes, hot & cold drinks. Plenty of staff which meant that the line of customers kept moving along, staff all very polite, we ordered milkshakes, ice creams, sundaes & hot drink, paid at the till & found a table, order then delivered to the table. With plenty of staff around as soon as a table was vacated it was cleaned ready for the next customer, the toilets were also clean. I understand that Mrs T makes the ice cream, she was also serving behind the counter as well as delivering orders to the tables. Overall a very good first visit, we will be returning!

Lovely afternoon out visiting here. We only went for the ice-cream parlour. If only one criticism I would say they need to put up some wasp traps as were pestered by them while trying to eat. Otherwise would highly recommend.

Mrs T and the team make and serve great ice cream on the farm. There are usual flavours and some more unusual ones like liquorice. In addition to the ice cream you can pay to play in the barn and meadow and solve the maize maze if it is open. A great few hours out in the country.

First time visiting the orange elephant and my girls had lots of fun in the play areas, sandpits and maze. The one thing I was very disappointed with was the lack of dairy free alternatives. My daughter cannot have any diary and the only other option for her was raspberry sorbet! For an established ice cream shop I would have expected a wider choice for the dairy free or vegan community.

Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant! If you have a nut allergy, fear not they reassured me that they have no nuts at all in their ice creams which made my daughter so happy. My daughter has to stare at her siblings eating ice cream very often unable to eat a lot of ice creams herself because of the risk of cross contamination. Orange Elephant Ice Cream is the best ever ice cream parlour because it caters for absolutely everyone including customers with a nut allergy. They are super friendly too and the play area and meadow are incredible for children. A nice addition would be a vegan chocolate ice cream as I avoid dairy and don't like sorbets very much but that's not currently available. Amazing place and seeing my daughter happy made me happy.

Visited with 2 grandchildren (8+5), it has grown and improved since last visit, costs £2.60 per adult and £1.60 per child to use the play areas, now has 2 indoor play barns, 2 outdoor play areas just over the road and a v large area down over the stream plus a huge Maize maze. Very impressed by all these facilities and the maze was brilliant. Took our own picnic lunch then ate ice creams - 2 v fancy cones and banana split, huge quantities and v tasty. We were there for about 4 hours, the children had a great time and we all enjoyed our ice creams. Thanks, we’ll be back.

Called in with the family after visiting Powderham Castle up the road. I had a sundae with my youngest and my wife and eldest had 2 scoops in a waffle cone. The ice cream was delicious and whilst it wasn’t cheap I didn’t feel ripped off. Would definitely call back again if we were passing. We even met what I assume was the owner and his spaniels which was great!

If you’re expecting to enjoy some fancy ice creams or sundaes whilst watching your children play in a play area then this isn’t it. The ice creams were quite simple and when asked for chocolate sauce it was like I had asked for tomato ketchup to go on the ice cream! The staff member said it wasn’t possible to put chocolate sauce on the ice cream as it was over where the sundaes are made, I asked if it could be put into a pot if she wasn’t allowed to get it from where the sundaes were made (we were also getting a sundae) and she said no that’s not possible. Luckily the guy on the till didn’t see a problem and happily said that he would sort it. The play area is separate (across a little road/lane) to where you buy/ have the ice creams. I wouldn’t go out of your way to visit but more somewhere if you were passing.

Not sure what to expect when we arrived , but not an ice cream parlour with a children's play area. Lovely building and a drive through option as well for those who can't stop! We looked at the selection and opted for muddy wellies (mint choc chip) and lemon pavlova on one cone and rhubarb crumble and white choc and passionfruit on the other. Lovely flavours and a smooth mouth feel. Made even better by the cheery service and story behind the farm and family. Only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so pick your day wisely.....unless they open up 7 days a week in the near future!

Wow!!! We stopped here today after a day out, looking for ice cream...we found the most amazing ice cream. As soon. As we arrived we knew it would be good, the car park was busy and so was the queue to order from a large selection (nearly impossible to choose, so will have to go again to make sure we chose right!) The queue went down very quickly and the service was excellent. We sat outside on the picnic benches and said it was without doubt the best ice cream we've ever had! We're already planning our next pit stop there.

As locals we brought our 7 year old here ordering the family feast. Asked for chocolate and strawberry first to be included to find neither were. When I asked why we were not told I was told that they had ran out as a freezer was broken and replaced it with other flavours (one being rum and raisin which was for over 18's) I witnessed a staff member laugh about it to another when I went over to see if there was any strawberry available. Disappointed in this service we left. As we left my child needed the toilet, gagging as they were disgusting. The toilets after the Glastonbury Festival smelt better. I was extremely disappointed with the service we received the staff were not at all interested in the fact my little girl didn't have the flavour she asked for which was present when we ordered at the till and clearly had been sold after the money was taken from us before bringing our order to the table. I wouldn't bother wasting your money it's not worth the disappointment for your child.

Visited here today with my partner. I appreciate that this is a family run business and I really cant fault the staff who were trying their best or the ice cream (which was amazing) but it was bedlam in there today. It looked like a very busy day for them, car parks were full and there were a gazillion children there (again, it was a bank holiday and we expected the kids). We had two issues. Firstly as you are queuing there is a board about all the lovely flavours they do, great, we chose the ones we wanted. Got to the front of the queue to be told the flavours we wanted weren't available today, there are no accurate boards up with what is available and we couldn't actually see the freezers then due to the mass of people queuing so we just ended up choosing from the ones we could see in the freezer next to us. I appreciate the flavours may change daily but there needs to be either an accurate board up or paper menus or something.

We visited this ice cream parlour after passing the orange elephant on the side of the A38 many times. There is a huge selection of ice creams and sundaes. Loads of flavours and all were delicious.

This place does one of the best ice creams I’ve ever had. There are different flavours every time I’ve been and they have won several awards for their flavours. For 3 scoops in a tub it is £3.85 which isn’t badly priced.

We were unaware of this hidden gem, although the orange elephant on the A38 now makes more sense!

Stopped off here on our way home after a weekend away. Did not have time to venture into the maize so an impromptu ice cream stop it was!!. Lots of delicious flavours to choose from and all reasonably priced.

Stopped here on our way back from Cornwall. It’s a good stop with kids. The ice-cream is superb - it is worth stopping here for that alone - and there is a fun play area / maize maze (tricky!) for the little ones to burn off some energy before getting back in the car.

Nice place, ample parking and good facilities including a maze. Only disappointment was, however, rather central as it was what we went for - the ice cream. To our taste it was far too sweet and lacked real flavour and, as a result, we left disappointed.

As our friends live not too far away, we knew all about the ice cream and couldn't wait to try it ourselves. The parlour is a basic barn and could really do with a more imaginary touch - but than you're here for the ice-cream, not the surroundings. The choices of different varieties was a huge problem for me - it took me a while to make up my mind! I was told that I can only have 3 different sorts, probably just as well!! Some flavours are 'normal' while others are rather more unusual. The men ordered an old-fashioned Knickerbocker Glory', something my husband was dreaming off for years - and he was not disappointed. My mixture was amazing, I liked each of my varieties, (which I can't remember). Our friends picked up two containers of ice-cream to take home with them, which they had ordered a few days before via phone. The outside seating area was looking very pleasant, but it was too cold a day to use it.

Let's start with the meadow, a few animals to look at, lots of swings and slides but even more stinging nettles on paths or by the fences where the animals were grazing. We weren't going to let our 18 month son come back covered in stings so we carried him most of the way. It was only £2 per adult tho so now real complaints.

Visited the orange elephant this morning with family,We live locally but had to ask a daughter the directions as it isn't easy to get too,Lovely open play areas for children. The only gripe I have is that they no longer serve food,my daughter said that they used too,The restaurant is big,but only icecream a few cakes and hot and cold drinks are available. Its a shame as if they did lunches we would have stayed longer, not everyone wants to bring a picnic with them,we will return but next time with our own food,Their icecream by the way is lovely

Lovely ice cream, and cake just a shame they didn't sell light food for children. The farm and the Maize Maze were really great and the animals just lovely.

Found this as it's a mile from the campsite we were staying at - it's in the middle of nowhere but well worth a special journey. In fact, I made sure we stopped on the way home for another ice cream!

After driving past the Orange elephant many times over the years, Family members visiting from London asked if we wanted to go for an ice cream here. Lots of flavours on offer, a few on the last scrapings and some gone altogether. But to be fair it was late in the day. Service was quick with a good choice of ways to have your chosen ice cream... cones, sundaes etc. We were given a number and our order was delivered to our table, again quickly. Two adult sundaes two 3 scoop sundaes and a child's muddy minty farmer( with no mint as they had run out) £23. Some flavours very good some a bit of promise but no finish. All in all service good, ice cream nice but a bit pricey. Bit of a build up ending a bit flat.

My 5 year old son broke his arm badly (open fracture) last August year on the home made play equipment. Two operations later, we are still waiting for a call to ask how he's getting on. We are local, but haven't been back since the experience.

We were recommended the Orange Elephant by Mantree Vineyard, had a quick stop off, very wet and windy day so didn't fancy the trail and playground. However we did enjoy our ice creams and scones - husband said their scones were almost as good as mine (wise man!). Wide range of ice cream flavours, a great hidden gem - just wish it had been warmer.

This place is nothing compared to how it used to be, very disappointing. We called in yesterday hoping for lunch. They used to do a good selection of lovely proper meals but now there's nothing apart from ice cream, so called cakes and coffee or tea! We were hungry but there was nothing worth having. The cakes were a meagre selection of about 5 biscuit thin unappetising looking so called cakes at over inflated p[rices. In the end we opted just for ice cream which looked a good selection although the young girl serving looked at me blankly when I asked for an old fashioned thin wafer type cone so we had to accept it was a different generation and have a thick modern cone. It was very pleasant sitting outside, lovely surroundings but I would think that's the only thing anybody would come back to the cafe for these days certainly would not find much in the way of refreshments. So we sat with our ice cream and the rest of the day we were saying wasn't that ice cream runny and expensive! It's nowhere near as reasonably priced or delicious as at the beach! Won't bother again, such a shame when I think of the lovely lunches etc they used to serve, it was worth a drive out then. it might be helpful to the owners that we approached on the dual carriageway going to wards Exeter and although there was a large sign near the orange Happy Eater elephant, there were no directions. Even as fairly local people I found it difficult to have to work out going over bridges etc to find the entrance, I was surprised no better sign-age, very confusing especially for strangers as it seems to be on the side of the road we are travelling but you can't get to it without crossing to the other side of the dual carriageway and a tricky way back again and would think they would lose business because of it, but saying that was before we found they didn't do lovely hot cooked food any more so probably not worth going anyway. A real shame. They've got the location and the lovely building etc but are wasting it. Very disappointed.

The perfect spot for breakfast, coffee, lunch or dinner when in Shaldon. Service is superb, food offering has good choice, well cooked, reasonably priced. Absolutely love stopping for a coffee and cake on the terrace area overlooking the river. Can’t wait to go back,

We were welcomed by the head bar man, what a gentleman & a legend taking the time to talk to us. We had visited Buckfast Abbey & drove through this quaint little village, parked cheaply in the pay & display & popped into this small village pub. Great little traditional pub, pool table on the right hand side, very clean & throughout. Good selection of beer & ales. We sat in their well tendered gardens. Definitely recommend for a stop off.

There should be a government warning about this pub. You should be warned about how lovely it is. So nice to walk into a pub that's still a pub. It's how a pub should be. We went with friends for the first time last week and we will certainly visit again. Great atmosphere with friendly locals, lovely staff and then the food ‼️ OMG this is what pub food should be like. Fresh, cooked on site and a desperate Dan size portion. I could not recommend this pub any more. It's a proper pub with proper grub. Go you will love it.

Forest Fungi is a great breakfast / brunch spot. The breakfast menu is served until 2 and offers some unusual and delicious options, mushrooms are front and centre as you would expect. They have also introduced a BBQ menu and offer tea and cake in the afternoon. There is a small farm shop on site and a good range of fresh baked goods. The service is friendly and approachable and prices reasonable. The best thing about Forest Fungi is the food, high quality, fresh, tasty and beautifully presented every time. At the weekend it is sensible to book in advance.
