I am surprised by the number of poor reviews of this cafe. My experience here today was excellent. There is set meal for Sunday lunch. Today it was turkey and all the trimmings. Very simple but very good and good to see proper home cooking and good service. Booking is needed but as it is a small family run place that is understanable. Highly recommended.

We were passing this place in torrential rain on our motorcycle tour, and needed somewhere to take shelter. The really kind and caring owner took pity on us, and despite having a fully booked sunday lunch crowd, he invited us in to warm up, with coffee and bacon rolls. What a lifesaver! Thank you SO much! This place is rightly very popular with the local crowd, and no doubt gets a lot of summer visitors too, so it looks like u should book ahead if u can. Also, great views (when the rain clears!)

This cafe showed up on Google Map when we were planning our NC500 trip, and looked interesting. And so it turned out to be! It is quite small, homely, and everything we had was cooked to order. Lovely coffee and breakfast baps, served in no time at all. Having been there, I would book ahead next time as it is small. There are loads of souvenirs available too.

Booked a table for family of 7 for breakfast. Lovely views with binoculars and bird spotting books to spot the variety of birds visiting the gardens. Breakfast was delicious. Lovely quality bacon and sausage and toast and not at all greasy. Coffee was excellent and piping hot. Giggled reading the banter on some of the Tripadvisor reviews from stuffy customers in the past whilst waiting. Will try and return before leaving the area as the coffee was the best I’ve had around here this trip.

I visited Oran Na Mara twice this week. I’m not sure what came over me really. I always have the bacon and egg sandwich on a visit here. Without fail. Until now. Something snapped inside my head I think, and caused me to abandon all my usual protocols I think I stick to “the usual” as I know how delicious it will be. And I couldn’t bear to risk disappointment by leading myself astray and making an off piste choice Yet this is exactly what happened. The gentleman owner was quite certain that it would be the aforementioned usual, as he, with a flourish, tapped his biro on his order pad and said “Will it be the bacon and egg sandwich?” - to which I replied, with the faintest hint of a quiver in my voice, “no - I’ll have the full breakfast please Andy” Naturally Andy was sure I was joking. Or had been drinking. Or both. But I wasn’t. A similar occurrence happened on my return visit when I ordered the burger, with cheddar, bacon, and pickled gherkins Both were equally delicious and I now have three firm favourites from the menu. On my next visit I feel sure I will revert and at least choose one of those three. Equally, I may go completely giddy and take a further step into the unknown It’s always lovely food at Oran na Mara, and superbly presented. Along with great coffee, good banter and lots of lovely birds to view (on the bird table and feeders!) including a ‘new to me’ bird this trip - a siskin - a beautiful yellow/green finch The wife and I travel from Melvaig and back to visit, a round trip of 42 miles. Booking recommended

Had Sunday lunch here with friends. It was the first time we had visited and we ere not disappointed. It was a set menu of roast lamb with beautiful fresh vegetables. The food was absolutely delicious and plenty of it, so much so that I could not finish it all. I declined dessert but what my friends had looked amazing. Booking is essential as it is quite small but very friendly and service is very good. There is also a lovely gift shop with very nice items as well as the resident dogs who are very friendly. I really enjoyed my visit and would definitely go again.

Always lovely food, it never disappoints I have the egg and bacon sandwich. This is homemade bread, with 4 rashers and two fried eggs. It has to be eaten with a knife and fork. There are other things on the menu I’d like to try. However this sandwich is so good, that if I choose something else, it will have big shoes to fill. It’s not a risk I’m prepared to take I am braver regarding my hot beverage choices, and try to mix it up a little. This week I had a latte, and it was delicious Oran na Mara is usually busy and I would recommend booking in advance. If you wish to use the toilet facilities, you’ll need to ask the man behind the counter for the door code

How ignorant and arrogant is the guy that owns this cafe. I arrived in a group of five and committed the sun of leaving the outside door open to allow the fifth member of our group to come in from the car park. As we walked across the cafe floor, the owner shouted at us (in front of other customers), “WHICH ONE OF YOU IS CALLED JESUS?” sarcastically referring to the door being open. When I explained that there was a fifth person coming in, no apology was made. Not content with his initial attempts to alienate his customers I then discovered after we left that he’d asked another member of our group (who went to the till to pay), if “JESUS WAS STILL UPSET?” And people wonder why their businesses don’t flourish? I can’t say I was surprised to find other reviews on here describing the owner as having an ‘attitude’; the fact of the matter is, he does. I suspect that, even if he saw this review, his arrogance would prevent him from taking anything onboard about how to speak to customers so I hope that this post serves a purpose by maybe encouraging people to try elsewhere and give their money to other nearby cafes that are more deserving of their custom.

Not sure if I should write this review as I can almost read the Managements response before I finish. I wish I could give this a higher rating as there is not a lot wrong with it. The food and drinks were good (except I got a chewy bit in the treacle tart and I thought the portion size slightly small). However, mine host didn’t seem to have a sense of humour. I asked if the coffees were available as large to which he said there is only one size, standard or large and I didn’t get a smile when I said “isn’t that a bit Irish”? Oops he now knows who I am. So I asked for a large Americano with cold milk to which he said “a white coffee” but then brought an Americano with separate milk! The only other thing that was a bit off putting was the locked toilet. Now I do understand why it is done as unfortunately tourists will abuse it as a free loo stop but it is a pain going to the toilet only to find the door locked then need to go back to the counter to request the access code. However there is no problem and the access code is freely given. I hope he enjoys his response, it’s just a pity we can’t respond to his response!!

We are very familiar with this part of Scotland but had never been to this cafe before and were very pleased we called in. It was first thing in the morning and we very much enjoyed a breakfast roll and cake with coffee and tea, overlooking the truly inspiring view from the cafe which is situated up a light incline from the main road (on the right as you travel from Gairloch to Ullapool). The cake was delicious and coffee and roll very much enjoyed too. We were particularly impressed with the range of vegetarian food on offer as well as meat dishes. The cafe itself is light, airy, clean room with these wonderful views and as well as serving a delightful range of food it also sells a range of gifts and home items. We had planned to call back again after our meeting in Ullapool that day to have tea and explore the beautiful sheepskin rugs on display but sadly did not make it back in time - we got stuck behind a very slow-moving vehicle for miles and we arrived just before it closed. We had visited Oran na Mara when several years ago and noticed straight away that it had changed (now more of a cafe than a shop with a few tables). The place was a great place to visit for lunch before and that definitely hasn't changed, in fact of anything it is better (apologies to the previous owners!). There was a great choice for veggies and it's the first place I've really seen that offers a choice of gluten free. The food was all prepared freshly as was the coffee and the prices were extremely reasonable. We went on a Sunday and then mid-week and both times the place was busy - including several locals which is always a good sign. The coffee was amazing (and I am very fussy!) - best we had in the area - and the paninis were the best around - in fact I wish we were closer as we would definitely be regulars! Andy was a hoot (I don't get some of the comments about him being rude or the place being like a morgue!) and him and his wife (and the girl who was there on the Sunday were all very friendly and nice). As I mentioned it was very busy both days, however, Andy was there on his own out front mid-week and worked through the orders methodically - would prefer that to someone juggling 4 or 5 at a time and getting them mixed up. I don't class this as `slow service' this is having a meal in a calm and relaxing environment with a bit of banter thrown in. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Well worth a stop for lunch or just a coffee. Food is really good and we were made to feel very welcome. Absolutely stunning view from the picture window. Not obvious to find, but following the signs will get you there and it is definitely worth the extra little effort to turn off the main road and find it. If you just drive by you are missing something special.

Great spot outside Aultbea for lunch or tea. I enjoyed the soup and homebaked bread and the fine view of Loch Ewe. Freshly redone and a wonderful painting and gifts collection. Reasonable prices too. Relaxing and comfortable.

We visited this cafe on our annual holiday and called in on our way to spend the day in Ullapool. I went in first, while my husband parked the car and ordered 2 coffees and 2 bacon sandwiches. At the time there were only 2 tables occupied and quite a few empty, including all of the 4-seater tables in the window. As the view is stunning, I wanted to sit there, but the gentleman serving directed me to a 2-person table in the centre of the room with a rather serious face and no real attempt at pleasantry. I would have understood had the cafe been busy at the time, but it wasn't and there were plenty 4 seater tables spare.

We ate some typical Scottish dishes for brunch in this cafe. The owner was very friendly and we had some great laughs. The location is only a few minutes from the main road but the directions get you there without any problems.

My husband and I love little cafes like the Oran Na Mare; local, friendly with delicious food. We had mushroom soup with a chicken sandwich. Both were very filling, along with a pot of tea. The view is gorgeous atop a hill along the loch. If you are looking for a local establishment with charm you should stop here.

This is a wonderful little place. It's a little off the road and you need to follow the (rather impressive) signs to get you to the place, but it's worth it when you get there. The view over the loch is truly spectacular, especially when a wonderful rainbow appears over the shore in the distance I've attached a photo). The cafe has enormous windows and they are so clean that you don't really realise that they are there - they must be cleaned daily. The place looks a little run down outside - there are rust stains on the white walls, a cracked window, that sort of thing and it nearly put us off; but don't let this put you off - once you're through the door it's lovely inside.

Wow! This is one amazingly special place in a beautiful part of the world. Fabulous selection of delicious goodies on offer - three different soups on offer, real chicken sandwiches (not the usual processed offerings here!), scrumptious scones, mouthwatering cakes - and lots, lots more! Breakfasts looked great too. All served with a fantastic view across Aultbea and by friendly people.

Visited with my wife whilst travelling on holiday. The male server was rude to myself and other customers. Did not serve Customers in the order they arrived. When I went to the counter to ask him to serve us next he did not despite our having sat in the Café for over 30 mins. When my wife then said he was serving people out of order, he insulted my wife who then said we were going. As we left he made another comment which was both ageist and insulting. We would advise everybody to AVOID this café like the Plague unless you like having tosuffer poor service and insults

We had lunch just on the off chance as we passed by and we're not disappointed by both the food and the service. The food was fresh, reasonably priced and very tasty. The service was quick and very friendly. There's also a gifts selection, with quite a variety of things on offer from local arts and crafts to other more standard gifts. Well worth a visit.

Stopped in here this morning after reading some great reviews here on trip advisor. We weren't disappointed!! Having a small dog with us meant that we had to sit outside, which wasn't a problem given the lovely weather! Bacon rolls were excellent, plenty parking, easy to get to, good value, lovely little range of gifts to buy. The homemade baking looked lovely and the hosts were very friendly. Even the dog and cat came to say hello. Worth a visit!!

We visited Oran Na Mara last week (today is 7th June 2017) as I had been there before and remembered it. The home baking and soups are excellent - I mean EXCELLENT! They taste gorgeous and the view out of the "wall of windows" over the loch is absolutely beautiful. Go there - don't hesitate - support that local business. We will definately be back in September when we're in the area again. Oh and the gift shop is good too - especially if you need to stock up on nice cards. I just love the Wrendale designs. Thank you to the owners for the delicious food and cheerful chat. Meg Jay :-)

Stayed in Aultbea between 4 - 11 May 2017. Visited the cafe almost by chance on the first morning & then visited every other day of our stay. A simple straightforward menu of delicious & very well prepared food & home baking with great service at extremely low prices. I notice on a few other reviews that suggested the owners were not friendly. I cannot comment on their experiences but both my wife & I found them exceptionally friendly & helpful. We were there during the 'Russian Arctic Convoy Event' & found that it was one of the few local business's who went to the trouble of decorating the place to suit the spirit of the weekend, even including a special menu featuring such delicacies 'Corned beef hash' & 'Spam' etc. Needless to say the views from the cafe are breathtaking & we simply loved the place. In fact I am still getting withdrawal symptoms & might have to pop back up there just to get another of their extra large bacon rolls.

We went for takeaway before getting ferry to Stornoway. Ordered an egg roll and bacon and egg roll. On opening when we got to our car we could not believe how poor they looked. Toasted stake rolls, overdone fried eggs and overdone bacon. Will not go back to this cafe again!
