Second review for this restaurant Firstly the drinks order. I ordera "strong" orange cordial with tap water, as you can see from the picture it cannot be described as strong One of party ordered a fresh orange and lemonade, he received a similar drink to mine ie cordial and water The Bruschetta the picture can explain Finally the Pizza when it arrived it was stone cold and in my opinion undercooked. We called the waitress over who went to report this. The owner came over picked up my Pizza to prove it was cooked ( no gloves) I told him exactly the same. He then took the Pizza away and reheated it I had the same Pizza returned this rendered it inedible ( it was like cardboard very over cooked) Once again I complained only to be told " no one else had complained " After a very short discussion it was decided that we wouldn't be charged ( we couldn't wait for a fresh Pizza as we were attending a show which they were aware of this). As one of the party paid the bill an apology was offered, but not to me

We visited on Saturday nights with 2 friends , we shared starter which everyone said they really enjoyed I had lasagna which was very very good my wife had spaghetti which also really enjoyed her only comment was she should have had a starter portion Our friends both had seafood pasta and again both really liked We have visited a number of times over the last 8 months with different friends and so far nobody has had a bad meal Staff really good and very friendly the young guy is very good the lady who takes the orders is very attentive All in all we really like it and will definitely be back

Wine choices by the glass was poor ! Two friends order seafood pasta was disgusting all pasta hardly any seafood! Very expensive for what we had .

We have visited many times and the food was great , the last two times the food was awful and we won’t visit again. Last night I had pancake and sea food. A squishy mess was the pancake with dried up sea food. What has gone wrong?! Should have complained there, but didn’t want others to hear.

3 Meals we had of insipid looking chicken wrapped in a slice of plastic ham with tasteless melted cheese on top was terrible. Then payment taken by a very rude owner, who made me feel intimidated. We was never asked how our meal was & didn’t want to complain, as we wanted a nice night going to the theatre. We will never return here

This place is used by those attending the Cast theatre on the opposite side of the road. To be sure of a meal on an evening of an event at Cast, you need to book. The staff were very helpful, the service excellent and great food. The pizzas are amazing.

We were a group booking and had pre ordered. When on arrival we informed that one of our party was ill and unable to come the owner fair shouted that you’ll have to pay cos we’ve got the food ready- a pizza??? Anyway we shared it as a starter! Calzone and pizzas had very hard inedible dough. Shameful delivery of a collapsed pan a cotta - sjouke never have left the kitchen, We needed to split the bill but the billing was chaotic - scraps of paper with scribbles on them - fine for taking orders but not for billing customers Would not recommend and a real affront to good quality Italian cuisine

Excellent service, simple menu and beautiful food. Wide range of desserts available. All food reasonably priced would definitely go back.

Overall very good. The service was really quick All food comes with no seasoning unless advised which was nice to know as we had someone who has an extreme allergy to black pepper. The decor does feel very italian with about 10 tables so not a very big place so definitely worth booking. And food was brought out quickly. We had a pasta carbonara, margarita, garlic bread, and pollo Mont Blanc. All mains were really nice and tasty. Portions were very good. Deserts are different everyday and only a selection of homemade ones and then there are lots of icecream options coffee and tea. Tiramisu was very good and the vanilla and raspberry sauce cello was nice as well however the waiter did bring a lemon cello out first which was incorrect. The overall meal was very nice.

Just a note of gratitude for a fantastic birthday meal, there were 6 of us, we cannot thank enough for the amazing food and great service, we couldn’t ask for more. Already booked again for next time, looking forward to it. Amazing.

This restaurant is the best in the area the food is perfect the staff are friendly and lovely to be around and service was perfect I would recommend this to all my friends and family as it is certainly worth of 5 stars, the atmosphere has an authentic Italian feeling in my opinion this is the best restaurant in Doncaster!

We went with another couple, we have been here many times and enjoyed the meal, this time my wife and I decided to have Pizza, it was a total disaster, it was lucky to be 150mm diameter, and it wasn't very good, very over priced nearly £22 for the two, they should have worn a a mask and a swag bag.

Hadnt tried this restaurant in a while so not sure what to expect. Food was delicious nicely presented and cooked well. Staff were very attentive and nothing to much trouble for them. For starters we had garlic mushrooms and mozzarella which were both delicious as were the main courses of lasagne and spaghetti bolognese. Will definitely visit again soon.

Old building . Really warm night and it was warm inside. Garlic bread with cheese & tomatoe not much cheese in a strange bowl and a bit tasteless. Pasta with chicken & mushroom for main. Looked bland but was tasty although reminded me of Heinz chicken soup mixed in with the sauce . Lasagne nice but rich. Service good & friendly. Waiter rushed off his feet.

I popped over to this restaurant for a quick dinner before the theatre. I enjoyed the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was perfectly nice and there was nothing wrong with it (I had a pasta dish, my friend had pizza), it just wasn't exceptional to be honest, I wouldn't rave about it. However, the price was good and it's decent for a quick pre theatre meal.

Regularly go to Opera as a treat best authentic Italian for miles great atmosphere and the owners and staff are fantastic really make you feel at home.

We visited the restaurant for the first time yesterday. We were not disappointed. The food was fantastic. In particular, the scallop starter and the sea bass special main course were so tasty! The sorbet and semifreddo were also lovely. We thought the restaurant had a lovely ambiance and the service was really good. We would definitely recommend!

My partner has an issue with her weight and halfway through our meal the front of house(woman) commented on how my partner doesnt look like she eats. We have now walked out halfway through our meal my partner is in tears!. As a professional establishment it should be the first thing that some one knows is not to comment on a customers weight. Awful and rude!!

Avoid at all costs. We ate here as a large party (around 12 of us) in July and I certainly will not be going back as the food was not only terrible but was simply not what was on the menu. I ordered the capesante to start which was listed on the menu as king scallops in a cream and béchamel sauce with prawns. The sauce was the only genuine component. The scallops were certainly not king scallops as they were tiny so I am guessing Patagonian scallops and I would bet good money that they were frozen and even worse they were served with the roe and no prawns in site. I sent this back and asked for the garlic mushrooms in garlic and white wine instead. When it arrived there was no evidence of any white wine and the mushrooms were literally swimming in oil so I didn’t eat this either. I ordered the calzone for main and when this arrived it was like no calzone I have ever had. I cut into it and the ‘dough’ flaked like shortcrust pastry. It certainly wasn’t like any pizza dough I have ever had and again I wouldn’t mind betting this had been frozen, stored then cooked hence the dough had gone brittle. It wasn’t only my food that was bad, my wife ordered bruschetta for starter which looked pale and odd and she encountered a frozen tomato when eating it. In summary, I have eaten at a lot of Italian restaurants in my time and worked at a few along the way and I can honestly say that this is the worst I have sampled by some way. I understand that the pandemic has hit everyone hard but there is no excuse for false advertisement or for not using fresh ingredients. Have some respect for your paying patrons that are helping to support you through these difficult times.

We were passing through Doncaster just staying for the night and we chose this lovely Italian restaurant. So glad we did! We had a starter of prawn, crab tower which was great. We both had chicken dishes to follow, one with mushrooms and the other with a cream sauce asparagus and mozzarella. They were both so tasty. Generous portions! The staff were so friendly and welcoming. We were very happy to have found this great restaurant and thoroughly recommend it.

Called sat night before home for England-ukraine game and the food and service was Brill with the owners where they can't do enough for you,definitely going back soon

Walking around looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon this place just as we were about to give up and go back to the hotel. The food was great and really good value and the owners were so lovely. If you are ever in Doncaster you must visit The Opera.

Husbands birthday meal was a delight. All the food was freshly cooked, atmosphere was also really lovely. Angela and Francesco and the wait staff can’t do enough for you. You weren’t rushed so had time to enjoy the evening as well as savour the food. Tortellini Emilia is always a beautiful winner but the steak and chips were incredible! Cooked to perfection! All in all a lovely evening with exemplary food and lovely service. Thank you.

Dreary atmosphere , poor food.. came tonight ordered a vodka Diet Coke which came flat so they replaced it turned out the bottle they served it from was old , ordered food starter was ok the prawns however must have been from before lock down tiny and dry , fillet steak main was chewy and tough the sauce was lovely however !! Service was good but the place could do with addressing g the atmosphere as was like being sat in someone’s front room , the lighting situation could do with re thinking

Never been here before, we took advantage of the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme and thought why not give it a try. On entering the restaurant we were greeted and taken through the covid protocol - the warm welcome was some what over shadowed by our first impressions..... a very dated restaurant with decor that time had forgotten. At this point we were shown upstairs which to be honest had no atmosphere, bare tables and old pictures with a unloved feel.... but we had a mooch at the menu and ordered, the food arrived in a timely manner, hot, well presented and flavoursome - our party of three enjoyed their staters and mains and to be really honest the FOOD WAS LOVELY we ate and all agreed the portion sizes and flavours were bang on. Parking is free and plentiful after 6pm and there are a few good pubs within easy walking distance. This restaurant could do really well and I’m sure with a little make over and few contemporary details it could be one of my go to places.....Thanks to the staff for there attentive service. I hope you remain here for a further 25years

Not only was I welcomed and accepted having Tourette’s syndrome and being transgender... but I was treated with the upmost respect. Such a warm, friendly, welcoming atmosphere, and the food was INCREDIBLE!!!! What a perfect evening in the perfect restaurant.

We decided to see if they were doing “take-outs” due to the Coronavirus shutdowns... WOW!Absolutely delighted to hear that they (were) and are doing - highly recommended! But the food didn’t taste like “takeaway” it was like eating restaurant standard in your own home!The only snag was we had to pick it up ourselves but a small minus on a “triple A” meal - absolutely brilliant and I wish all at Opera good luck! Come on everybody - nows the time to support these family run restaurants in Doncaster - give them a try - you won’t be disappointed!Marty

We were booked in the have our Mother’s Day meal there but unfortunately it had to be altered due to the coronavirus restrictions. Instead, the lovely Francesco and his wife gave us the option of a take out meal. Obviously we jumped at the chance. Ordering the food was easy and we just popped in to the restaurant to pay for it and pick it up, and we were greeted so warmly ... it was really lovely! At home we just couldn’t believe how wonderful each plateful of food was! There was absolutely no reduction in the standard of food, it was truly gorgeous! We had a relaxing family meal, each of us with restaurant quality food that satisfied each one of us. Well done Opera Ristorante! You’ve done yourselves proud! Thank you x

This independent restaurant is ideally located for the Cast Theatre very close by. We visited for dinner prior to a performance. We received a warm welcome on a very wet night, and found the menu to have plenty of choice. The restaurant was quite busy, and the very good food was served to enable us to reach the theatre in good time. Overall a relaxing and good food experience, and we would have no hesitation in visiting again.

Always have been a fan of Italian food and must say the food served in the Opera restaurant takes some beating add that to a wonderful cosy atmosphere and fabulously friendly owners Alexandra and Angela and you have a dining experience that shouldn’t be missed

Went recently on our works Christmas party and as somebody who follows a plant based diet I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was. Nice minestrone soup followed by spicy arrabbiata pasta and looking and listening to everyone else....everyone had a good meal 👍🏻

Enjoyed a most delicious lunch,.Garlic bread tomato and chilli followed by pasta all freshly cooked not microwave in sight.Really authentic looking forward to my next visit.

By booking early for our tea, the staff were really quick in bringing our food and it was good. We strongly recommend this restaurant if you want Italian food.

We had a fab night at Opera for my grandmas 90th birthday. The owners were very helpful in the lead up to the meal, allowing us in early to set room up, bringing balloons and our own cake. On the night, we had the private room upstairs, and lovely waitor and waitresses, all friendly and helpful. The food was delicious as always and good portion size. No complaints from anyone. 2 main highlights were the soup and ice cream!!! Delicious!!

My wife and I love Opera. The food is absolutely brilliant. We have been a few times for various occasions, but food and service is always great. The food is authentic and homemade, Capasante and the tomato and chili garlic bread are highlights of the starters. The Pizza always has plenty of toppings and the base is light and fresh. My wife always goes for a pasta dish and adds pepperoni and asks for it extra hot and they always accommodate. We will be back again soon. Thank you

Had a meal here on Friday, absolutely spot on. Staff very friendly, portions very large. All reasonably priced, £40 for two starters two mains two drinks, cant say fairer than that.

We had dinner before attending a concert at CAST theatre. The staff were very helpful in accommodating our party, which grew from 5 to 7 and the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The service was excellent - our waiter was very quick to help with quick service for my niece, who had to get to the theatre in a hurry. The food was delicious - we had pasta, pizza, lamb, ice cream and tiramisu between us and everything was wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant and hope to return again soon.

18 of us for a surprise evening for my daughter's 21st birthday. We were made very welcome by Francesco and his wife Angela who along with his staff were very attentive to our food and bar service. We had the room upstairs to ourselves and nothing was too much trouble. Food and drink is well priced and the variation of meals was all served hot and delicious. I am ashamed to say that in all the years this restaurant has been open this was our first ever visit but it certainly won't be our last. Thankyou again for making it a special 21st for my daughter.

We had a meal at Opera with another couple, visiting us from London. As Opera is one of our favorite restaurants in Doncaster, we were so pleased that our friends enjoyed it so much and wished they had a restaurant like Opera where they live. They still rave about the Scallops and Fillet Steak “Opera” and the excellent selection of wines available. They plan to visit us again in November and can’t wait to dine at Opera again. There were 27 of us that came to the restaurant after our performance at Cast Theatre. I asked for a glass of water with ice and lemon and was given a small bottle of water priced at £2.50. I said I refused to pay that much and tap water would suffice to which the reply was "we don't give out tap water as we have to pay for it and we have a business to run!!" I'm sorry but if 27 of us hadn't chosen to eat there they wouldn't have made the money they did last night. I've always asked for water in restaurants and they have brought jugs out for the table as many times as we requested it. In the end I was given a small glass of warm tap water with no ice or lemon as requested. Also the food is overpriced for what it is. The pizza's were hard and dry. Sorry but this has put me off your restaurant and I will not be recommending you to anyone

I've been here a few times and they never fail to present delicious food. The steak is to die for!! The staff are lovely and friendly. Definitely worth a trip!

3 of us had a very enjoyable meal here recently. Family-run. Service from the owner's wife and a young waitress was prompt and friendly.The owner was welcoming.Good atmosphere. Food was hot, well-presented and tasty. .I had pasta with a bolognese sauce which was really nice. One of ordered a dessert which looked great but was very sweet.

Went as a family for our parents anniversary. Pleased with the choice, especially my dad, (the hard one to please), we all enjoyed the food and the excellent service we received, it made the night a success. We highly recommend Opera Restaurant, hard to find one in Doncaster as good. On behalf of my parents and family, thank you and certainly we will go back very soon

Of all the Italian restaurants we frequent this is now the most expensive, minimum £10.50 for a pizza or pasta. We got a shock when we saw how the prices had increased since our last visit. Yes, the food is good including the sweets made by Angela but the décor hasn't changed since our first visit about 12 years ago and there wasn't even a tablecloth to disguise the plastic canteen style tables.

We again visited this restaurant. It is without a doubt one of our favourites. The service is always impeccable and the food, always fresh, cannot be beaten. Both my wife and myself had garlic bread as starters, I had the Tortellini and my wife had her favourite Pizza. No room for sweets but the coffee was good. Thank you Francesco, we will e back again

First and last time I go to this restaurant, miserable portions and prices too high,then we saw a person who was definitely the owner treating an old woman badly for a small bottle of water not counted in the menu, personally being Italian I did not recognize Italian cuisine in that place, I was served a Tomato Bread with ham spaced for a diavola pizza, chicken salad Where the chicken was there was not even a little bit of Rocket I paid £7.00, but the service was even more horrible than food, and the bill was written to me in a piece of paper I was not even given to the receipt, My wife and I are Italian and personally I'm ashamed to have entered an Italian restaurant like this.

It’s not a chain or a modernised and sanitised experience but the food is lovely. The service is friendly and relaxed. It’s worth trying if you want a simple and not over complicated Italian menu with taste. Try the desserts!!

Ordered a starter and it was full of hair absolutely disgusting, the waitress never even managed to say sorry just said we will do you another one, which I refused after that she didn't speak to me anymore just to the person that was with me. Big big disappointment will never go there again

What a little gem, I always love coming here for a family treats mostly birthdays and were always welcomed with open arms I also like how the dishes are adaptable as I love spaghetti carbonara but it’s with penne on the menu and I prefer tagliatelle pasta so great that I could change that

La señora rubia nos dejaron entrar, nos hizo esperar 10 minutos mientras ella estaba en el teléfono, finalmente nos ofreció bebidas en el bar, entonces nos mostró arriba a una zona bastante sucia de comedor.

Propietarios increíble el servicio es de primera. . . Comida super sabrosas. tenía la ópera scampi para arranque - Dios mío que estaba fuera de este mundo tan sabrosa se podía comer todo el día :)

Extremely tasty food and great service. A real uique and special place with hand painted walls of Italy. Took 3 friends there this evening and they loved it- it lived up to the all the good things I had been telling them. The owners went above and beyond tonight. Absolutely brilliant :)

With some friends, my wife and I had a meal at “Opera”, just a table for 4. We were really pleased with the food and service, I would highly recommend the King scallops (Delicious) and arancini, small rice balls filled with ragu’, a Sicilian speciality,(the owner, Francesco, is a Sicilian himself), the ladies ordered lasagne and carbonara, still raving about it , the other friend and I had Lamb, never tasted anything as good as that. We ordered red wine, really good, I thought it was extremely good value for money, we noticed that all their wines were Italian. Only the ladies had desserts, amaretto tiramisu and lemon panna cotta, my wife kept on asking for the recipe but to no avail. Although the restaurant was full, the service was impeccable and the food was served quite promptly. We have eaten at the Opera restaurant many times and never been disappointed, credit to Francesco, Angela and their staff, and thank you for making our night out an enjoyable one.

Went with mum before a show at the Cast. Friendly welcome and seated/served quickly. Excellent wine, delicious pasta and an excellent panna cotta. Mum had semifredo which she was very impressed by. Finished off with a very good - and hot - coffee. Excellent value for money, good service and will definitely return.

Last Saturday we decided to celebrate a family birthday at the “Opera”. The whole evening was an outstanding success, we were welcomed by the owner, Francesco, we were a party of 8 and all of us enjoyed the meal, especially the main courses, I had a fillet steak with porcini mushroom, cooked to perfection, very taste. We brought our own birthday cake and were presented with sparklers provided by the restaurant, nice touch, we opted for the house desserts and what a treat, they were all homemade by Angela, the owner’s wife. Back home everyone was pleased with the choice of restaurant, no wonder they have been open for 22 years, the “proof of the pudding is in the eating”. We have rebooked the restaurant for a wedding anniversary in 2 weeks time and we are looking forward to it. We wish to congratulate everyone at “ Opera” for the fantastic night we all had. Grazie

I have never before had a pizza with celery, carrots and peas on and do not intend to risk having it again so will not be returning to this restaurant. Service started well and fizzled out and my companion's barely touched meal was cleared away without comment.

Went here for a pre-theatre meal. The wine was superb. We were welcomed and sat on a large table which was nice. From then on the meal went downhill. My wife had the ribs special which smelt and tasted great. I had a mushroom and prawn dish. It was hunt the prawn in a sea of brown liquid. I complained and the starter was taken away and the owner replaced it after my wife and I had shared her starter. The replacement was ok. Then the main courses: Oh dear. My wife's sea bass was ok. I had a saltimbocca. This was the most disgusting bit of food I have ever put in my mouth. The 'veal' was slimy and tasted off, what little meat there was underneath a slew of tomato sauce; everything was overwhelmed with salt. It was a slimy mess. This course was deducted from the bill when we complained which was fair of the owner. £57 for an awful meal, the wine was £23 and delicious so £34 was wasted on a night out at the theatre. Go somewhere else.

My wife and I had a lovely three course meal which was very nice, we opted for a bottle of house wine which was nice also, the restaurant is not to big which makes for a lovely atmosphere and the staff were efficient and friendly. It was our first visit but will be back again soon.

After reading mixed reviews, both about the friendliness of the staff and the food, came with a friend with an open mind. We had a very pleasant experience and have to say our waiter was lovely. A real credit to the place, sorry didn't get his name. He was attentive, friendly and we enjoyed a bit of banter with him. Our starters were fine, although the calamari was a bit chewy. We both ordered rare steaks and they were lovely, no complaints.

Having read the reviews which seemed good, we gave this place a try.Words fail me. Just how people recommend the food here is baffling to say the least.The front of house skills was just as bad. My lady asked for a carafe of white wine, the waiter hadn't a clue what itwasIt was on the menu, also a lager with a splash of lime, he'd never heard of that either.Starter came, it was supposed to be a prawn and mushroom bake. The prawns were non existent and mushrooms were hot but hard, not cooked which sat in a pool of brown water in a tiny dish with very little flavour..Waiter came and cleared the table, not one word spoken, he then comes back and plonks the main course down.My partner had the so called Calzone, this was a challenge as they didn't supply a toffee hammer to break though the dinosaur pastry.Once opened the meat consisted of a table spoon amount, one spoonful and it was gone, the bed of tomatoe sauce was ok, the casing of pastry was left in case the owner needed any walls repairing.My main course was a steak medallion, the meat was cooked ok, if a little small, again the mushrooms were bland, probably tinned, the sauce was really salty and lacked every flavour.The side dish of vegetables was swimming in a dish of oily water.The waiter came and took the plates away, again, not a word of how was your meal sir. We flagged him over for the bill, eventually the owner came over with the debit machine and we duly paid, again even he never asked how the meal was so we brought the matter up ourselves, i will say he was a really nice man and handled the criticism well, but when front of house is dreadful and the food is very poor, that does not really matter. Would i go back...... i would sooner suck sludge through a tramps sock.

As delightful as ever! We've been eating here for over 15 years and come back time and again, whether for a quiet night as a couple, or a large family celebration. Despite only visiting once every couple of months we are invariably made to feel as though we're their most valued customers. Personal quirks of food preferences, style of cooking, and wine choices are unfailingly remembered and appropriate recommendations/ suggestions flagged up. Their classics are reliably delicious and counterpointed perfectly by a small choice of specials which highlight seasonal produce. Francesco and Angela are always the perfect, relaxed, friendly hosts, who go out of their way to accommodate foibles and put you at ease. As two decidedly picky eaters this is something we don't find very often- and we eat out a lot! Having managed to escape for an evening between Christmas and New Year I was ready for a night off, having cooked my socks of for family and friends over Christmas. They didn't let us down! Starters of calamari, garlic mushrooms and pate were delicious as always. Filetto al Dolcelatta was divine and very generous, as was Angela's home-made panna cotta. ( Her semi- freddos are out of this world too.) Don't visit as often as we should but love it every time. It's our default setting for a meal guaranteeing great food and service. And if you like cooking/ food and get chance ( on a night when they're not frantically full obviously) to really talk to them about it, they're absolutely inspirational!

We returned to what has been our favourite Italian for a long time. As usual we were made very welcome. We all had Italian dishes,which were all excellent, followed by Semifreddo and Tirimasu. Coffee and liquors to finish.Very nice and very satisfying, ew will visit again soon

Excellent meal, third this year and another really enjoyable experience once again. Food is so well cooked and the atmosphere is wonderful.

When the drinks arrived, the food order was taken without delay. Each course was served efficiently and not rushed, and was served nice and "hot". Adequate time between courses was given before the next one was served. The food was excellent/perfect, and there were no complaints from any individual in our party at all, and was enjoyed by everyone.

Don't be mislead by the fact the decor is outdated, the food is authentic and go. The owners and staff are welcoming and friendly.

Great food , great staff, great atmosphere. Prices very good for considering the quality. Highly recommended.

We met family last night for a meal before the theatre opposite. At first the service was great ! About 40 mins in I asked a member of staff if we could order some drinks &amp; he was quite abrupt &amp; said no I have no time at the moment I am busy ...I felt very told off ! About 20 mins later I asked if we were allowed a drink yet &amp; was ignored. When they eventually served us drinks they got the order totally wrong &amp; by the time the correct drinks had arrived we had to leave for theatre so I ended up leaving mine- not happy as not cheap. Don't get me wrong the food is lovely but the service has a lot to be desired. There was 1 member of staff who seemed manic rushing around everywhere (the rude man) &amp; a few young members of staff who just wandered around - think they should be allocated duties ! Not sure if I will be back as although the food was ok the overall dining experience wasn't &amp; I don't like being told off when I am paying that sort of money

Spent a week at The Cast Theatre in Doncaster &amp; this lovely Italian was right over the road. The place fast became our nightly cast meal (&amp; some lunches). It was the best food we found in Doncaster by a mile. Freshly made pasta dishes, great pizzas &amp; a stunning Minestrone soup! The couple who run it are fantastic! Couldn't do enough for us. Brilliant place. Myself &amp; the rest of the cast wished we could take it tour with us!

The food here was nice but my food was stone cold in the middle. The waiter was not very apologetic over this and no one seemed bothered that they had served sub standard food. My dish was changed for a fresh one but with no recompense. There wasn't even a smile.The pizza that my partner had was really nice though. The place was not busy so the atmosphere was very flat. A woman serving at the bar had jeans and tee shirt on and was unfriendly and unwelcoming. The service could be better.

We visit on a regular basis and whilst I choose different dishes most times my wife always has the seafood pancake. Boring I know but she rates it very highly. Full of a range of seafood and always served piping hot. The service can be a bit hit and miss and the decor is dated but all of this gives Opera its charm and atmosphere. The portions on the pre theatre offer are slightly smaller. I would recommend the garlic bread with tomato and chilli as a light starter. The right amount of spice and flavour.

Went here for a family birthday.Intimate place with friendly staff.The food was delicious, I had carbonara and it was one of the tastiest I had had in a long time.I also had a sea food starter, it was served in a giant shell and was delicious.Unfortunately I was to stuffed to try their delicious looking ice cream.Would be happy going back and eating here.

With a celebration on the cards it was the hubbies job to select a venue that not only served excellent authentic Italian but also offered great service and attention to detail.Having visited many times, the Opera Ristorante in Doncaster always made us feel very welcome and offered exactly what we needed so we could feel 100% confident our choice would go down a treat with the guests we were taking.Starters, Mains and Deserts along with a few bottles of Barolo were served as one and all our guests commented on how great the entire experience was, adding they would definitely be returning.Thank you Opera for such a wonderful night.

Went for the first time and won't be going back - ever!This place wants you to know they've been serving food for 21 years and it shows! I don't think the place has been decorated in all that time - or cleaned for that matter!Asparagus starter was good but my husbands calamari was almost non existent on a bed of old lettuce. I ordered a vegetarian pizza for main which should have had artichoke hearts on it. This was missing, but had plenty of carrots on it - a first!! When I complained they took my pizza away and put a few artichokes on it, reheated it and brought it back. Couldn't wait to leave and would not recommend anyone to go there.

Top notch service and excellent food. So much to choose from on the menu and specials board. Will definitely recommend to friends and go there again.

Service was good and food was enjoyable though my calzone was slightly on the salty side. But i think the decor inside is off putting as it looked like you stepped back into the 80's.

I booked a meal for a couple of friends and me, this evening. I allowed an hour for the meal. The restaurant was about half full when I arrived and some customers were already eating their main course.Service was executed politely but was slow. There was a long gap between ordering and serving. I only just made the theatre in time for the performance. Each person ordered a different main course and each of us found our dishes were very salty. Using a lot of salt is often a cover for poor flavour and I felt this applied in this instance. I do not know if the dishes were made on the premises or bought in and reheated. Salty food is not healthy but it does encourage patrons to order more drinks!For the quantity and quality, this meal was not good value for money.

Popped in with some work collegues and while the staff are very friendly and food fresh, portions were a little on the small side. The pizza i had was really disappointing and small.

This is a very nice cosy family run restaurant . All the food was excellent freshly cooked and served with a friendly smile .

A close friend of many years who had spent some time working in Europe, had contract work to do in Doncaster, so for the one night he was here I had the pleasure of taking him for dinner at " Opera Restaurant". He told me he was surprised to find such a restaurant in provincial England and was truly impressed. The Tiramisu, He said, was without doubt the best he had ever tasted, and that from someone who had eaten all over Europe. Although not in the habit of using the internet for such comments, I thought the compliment was good enough to be shared!!

Enjoyable meal, nice friendly staff. We were the only ones there but during our meal, a large party arrived. The level of service did not change, everyone was served promptly and the noise levels were still acceptable. Food was well cooked and prompt.

The last time I was in Opera was over 15 years ago, my first date with my (now) husband. When we needed somewhere to eat before a visit to Cast it was the first place that popped into my head. And, indeed, you'd be hard pushed to find a more conveniently located restaurant for pre-theatre eats. Unfortunately convenience is really one of the few things going for it. The place has changed *very* little in 15 years - from the decor to the menu. That's not automatically a bad thing though, it's a family-run business and if you have a formula that works there's no shame in sticking to it. However, despite a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the place did look a little tired and, most importantly, the food wasn't great. All perfectly edible but pretty bog-standard. The table we were given was *tiny* (probably because of two large pre-panto families) and had trouble accommodating our plates. A garlic bread, olives, Carbonara and a chicken dish plus a dessert and a coffee came to around £50. Not astronomical in price but definitely overpriced for the whole experience. Despite this is does seem to get busy so I would recommend booking.Positives are the proximity to the theatre and the friendly atmosphere. Negatives, however, are the unimpressive food, the decidedly retro feel and the slightly squashed-in tables. I wouldn't refuse to eat here again if circumstances made it convenient but I wouldn't go there specifically.
