Building is not normally open to the public as it houses offices and meeting rooms for the Institute of Chartered Accountants. However, this year, the ICAEW is participating in this annual festival and opening its doors for guided tours of parts of the building that are architecturally interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed our tour with the current President of the ICAEW. You will see a mix of architectural styles including beautiful murals, stained glass and what is said to be the only bridge inside a building in the UK. The artist who designed a recent stained glass artworks was also on site on the day to talk about how the art was produced. Great showing by ICAEW members of staff, security, etc who went the extra mile so the ICAEW could participate in this year’s festival.

. . . Y así fue. . . El picpoul era bueno. . . No diré cuántas botellas. . . . . Siempre consistente y no demasiado caro y la comida buena. . .

It was really friendly with good food and an unfussy menu. Highly recommended. Good pricing too with a 30 min menu which is perfect for business lunches. I was taken to lunch today by Rebecca and April. None of us had visited this restaurant before. The food was delicious. I had the Rabbit and duck terrine, April had crisp fried oysters, cauliflower puree, pancetta crisp. Rebecca and I had Fillet of west country beef, red wine braised ox cheeks, kohlrabi, creamy chive mash and April had slow cooked belly of Gloucester old spot pig, haggis croquettes, apple puree. We tried each others food and to say it was delicious is an under statement. Just when it couldn't get any better Rebecca and I had a cheese board that was delicious and April had a cherry tart that was beautifully presented. Wine and Port were delicious. The staff were very pleasant and polite. Would definitely visit this place again, well done and many thanks. Great company, great food, great venue

This large basement restaurant is hidden away at the bottom of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, in a side alley just off Moorgate, but is completely open to the public. It maintains high quality of food and service, with efficiency in a pleasant room where the tables are well spaced - for that confidential business conversation. The most recent time I went was during the pre-Christmas season when they were offering a 3-course Christmas lunch for £29. Not cheap, but the quality and presentation was superb. I was blown away by one of the best Christmas puddings I have had, soft, succulent, floating in a delicious hot sauce. Couldn't be faulted. A hidden gem.

I am an ICAEW Council member (and so must declare an interest in this review) and visit Moorgate Place several times a month so often eat here and perhaps take it for granted, but my guest this week was impressed and it prompted me to write a review. Meet and greet was immediate and very friendly, we were offered a drink as soon as we had been shown to the table and the service was quick and friendly. The food was excellent and I was able to have a conversation with my guest about a business matter without feeling distracted. Ideal location for a business lunch and I would use it even if I had no connection with the Institute simply because it delivers good food and good service in a very handy location.

Going into a restaurant by entering the portals of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales is unusual but do not be put off - this is a restaurant with a modern ambiance, good service and lovely food. Our starters were all fishy, my partner having some smoked salmon with interesting garnishes, I had a selection of smoked fish, including the first genuinely tasty smoked halibut I have ever tasted and my brother the crab salad. All very good. For mains, my partner had a very good steak and my brother and I an excellent piece of halibut, in my case cooked to avoid dairy. We skipped dessert but they served up a decent decaff double espresso for me. We had eaten late, booking for 14.00 and left at 16.00, rather later than the city workers but the staff did not seem to mind. All in all, this is a good, reasonably priced restaurant in this part of the City.

I booked this restaurant after reading reviews and when I arrived with my colleagues (accountants) they thought I was being cheeky by bringing them to the restaurant at the Institute of Chartered accountants for England & Wales. But they were pleasantly surprised and had nothing but good things to say. The comments they made included 'great ambiance', 'comfortable seating', 'inviting'. The food came out in small portions but it was surprisingly filling!I was extremely pleased with the outcome and my manager said I can pick the restaurant next Christmas!Well done!

My wife and I visited this restaurant after viewing the Tower of London poppy display just a short walk away. The restaurant is located on the lower ground floor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and whilst the entrance is quite period style, (grade II listed) the restaurant is certainly not. You go downstairs to a modern though windowless room with bar and dining area. Our first impressions were not great as we stood for some time by the cloakroom waiting to offload our coats, in full view of the restaurant staff who made no attempt to greet us and take our coats. In the end we walked into the restaurant, got seated and got rid of our coats there. The food here is of a high standard both in terms of cooking ability and quality of ingredients. But you won’t have to worry about your waistline because portion sizes are small bordering on tasting menu size. No doubt this is to appeal to the young whiz kids from the city who frequent the place but personally I would have preferred to have paid more and had larger portions. To start I had pan seared wood pigeon, creamed leeks, parsley oil and my wife had lobster and crab risotto with a soft poached quail’s egg. These were both excellent in flavour with the caveat about portion size. Main courses were Highland venison cooked two ways, roast loin and cottage pie, celeriac puree, roasted beets and thyme sauce. An excellent course. My wife had pan roasted turbot, parsnip puree, curly kale, salsify, orange & chive cream. Unfortunately the turbot was over seasoned as was the cabbage we ordered as an extra. There is an impressive choice of 6 desserts and I chose chocolate truffle tort with chocolate sauce. Very rich and tasty. We had a Gourmet Society card that gave us 25% off everything so this reduced the bill to below £70 not including wine. Overall I would say it is worth a visit if you are in the area – St Pauls cathedral is nearby and there is plenty to see in this historic part of the city.

Searched for a restaurant as part of the Gourmet Club and this appeared on its list. I booked a table on spec and was delighted to find a very decent restaurant albeit tucked in a basement under the Institue of Chartered accountants. We thought we might be eating in the staff canteen! However we enjoyed a very good and reasonably priced menu in a well laid out and sophisticated setting. The staff are friendly and in no way stuffy and made an elderly threesome" up from the country" very welcome. Only open at lunchtime this is a very good alternative from the hustle and bustle of many city eateries. Well worth a try!!

To find this restaurant you have to duck down an alleyway from Moorgate. In the basement of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, down three flights of stairs decorated with the pictures of the grey men of balance sheets, you will find this attractive and comfortable restaurant. Tables are nicely spaced so you can have private conversations, chairs are comfy so you can have a leisurely lunch, and service is attentive so you do not have to wait if you are in a hurry. They have a 30 minutes or free meal service, which is impressive, as is the price. London can be fearfully expensive, but if you order from the 30 minute menu you can have two courses for £16.00. There is also a reasonably priced a la carte menu with plenty of choice on it. Portions are sensible. Starters really are starters and main meals are not loaded with carbs. There is a good choice on the wine list but the really good wines are over £30 a bottle. Having said that the Pinot Grigio was one of the best I've tasted in a restaurant. Loos are up two of the flights of stairs so this is not a place to bring an elderly restaurant, but if you are looking for good value for money, very good cooking, relatively swift meals and really attentive service with plenty of time for chatting, this is a very good choice in the city.

Very smart restaurant. Went with colleagues and professional advisers. The restaurant is part of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. The decor was suitably modern and smart. We arrived early - shortly after 12 - when it was empty. By the time we were leaving the place was full and had a nice buzz. We went for the a la carte. All seven of us were very complimentary about the food. I had sea bass starter which had the best crispy skin followed by a sea trout main with gnocchi and an unusual pea, radish and samphire dish. Service was discreet and top notch. Waiting staff were attentive with the wine and water and remembered what we ordered and also remembered who had which coat - very impressive.

Have walked past this place on numerous occasions so decided to give it a try as there is always a good smell. On arrival we were greeted warmly and shown to our table. The restaurant is extremely well decorated and laid out and has the feel of a gentlemen's or member's club. We were presented with two menus - a fixed price version and an a la carte. We were short on time so we went with the fixed price as it came with the promise of if you hadn't got all your food withing 30 minutes then the meal was free! Furthermore the price for two courses was only £16 with 3 starters and three mains to choose from. Starters were roasted vegetable salad, prawn cocktail and duck livers on toast and we had one of each and all were extremely good. For the main we all went for the pork belly which was delicious and all the food was beautifully presented. The wine list was also very reasonable and a very good Californian Viognier came in at under £23. Service throughout was very good and nearly all the tables were taken so it was quite lively. Total bill for three people each having two courses each plus the bottle of wine and a 10% tip was £85. BTW - the a la carte menu also looked very good with some interesting choices and again the prices seemed very reasonable. Couldn't go wrong from what I could see!

Despite a slightly chaotic beginning (they were down on staff numbers for which the waiter apologised afterwards), the food and service were excellent. Enjoyed a good-value, top-notch 3 course lunch today in this most comfortable and spacious restaurant. One suspects that few, apart from Chartered Accountants (it is in the HQ), would ever find this restaurant, or if they did one doubts they would realise it is open to the public (the small sandwich board on Moorgate pointing to Moorgate Place is a very understated form of promotion). So it is indeed a hidden gem. After wood pigeon salad, I had a truly succulent and moist Banham chicken dish - it was delicious. Cheese completed my meal, and all accompanied by a reasonably priced and good glass of house red wine. After coffee, my total cost was £44 before tip. My fellow diner enjoyed the £16 2-course menu, with a glass of house white wine (also fairly priced) and followed it with a good dessert and coffeeThis all seemed to me to be very good value given the pleasant surrounds and perfect service. So, for a city lunch place to meet friends, colleagues or clients there is probably no better place

This brasserie is a true gem, tucked away in the heart of the city. I find they always use extremely fresh ingredients for a modern European menu, regularly refreshed to take advantage of seasonal produce. This venue is ideal for city folk and members of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW) - a brightly lit open eating and meeting place... you soon forget it's actually in the basement of the building! The feel manages to be both sophisticated, trendy and modern and retains the best aspects of a cosy gentlemen's clubThe breakfast menu is good and hearty - I regularly have the Porridge - and I'm not a massive porridge fan... but when if you want a pampering the secret winner for me is the smoked salmon and creamy egg on English muffin. The 'Full One' meat feast/ sausage extravaganza is clearly aimed at hungover city slickers.... have witnessed it's miraculous powers on menfolk... The bar and comfy banquette seating is a nice spot to hang out if waiting for a table- which thankfully I've not needed to whenever I've been there for lunch. Table spacing allows conversation without feeling nervous about being overheard.I tend to select my order from the 30 min menu at the full meal always arrives exactly within that time, great if you're booked in for a business lunch. Otherwise, always best to book - (ask for Alessandro, the maitre d') - as they always try to fit you in.

What a fantastic find. Tucked away in the basement of the Chartered Accountant's Hall, just a minutes walk from the junction of London Wall and Moorgate. The restuarant itself is modern and welcoming with tasteful decoration and furniture (check out the ed spotted chairs). The food is first class. Carefully constructed dishes using excellent produce. The dishes from starter to desert all oozed class and creativity from the kitchens. Although the starters and mains were exceptional, the deserts won the day. The front of House staff were proud to discuss and display their fantastic range including a stunning lemon tert, deconstructed walnut whip and a heavenly looking strawberry knickerbocker glory. Excellent service throughout and a sensibly priced bill at the end. An excellent business or couples venue. I will definately return.
