We went to The Cove for breakfast on a Wednesday morning and it was fantastic. We had pancakes, French toast and eggs Benedict. Every meal was brilliant, really tasty and large portions. We’ll definitely be back if we’re in the area again.

This is a dog friendly cafe however there were 2 dogs up on the seats the entire time their owners were there. The dogs were eating and drinking and placing their faces onto the tabletop. The staff appeared not to think this was unusual or unacceptable. I hope for the sake of the next diners, the seats as well as the tabletop were disinfected.

Slow service. Scones dry and crumbly had to ask for butter, which was brick hard no jam given either. Cakes look lovely but very dry. Coffees etc placed at edge of table by a surly girl; long reddish blonde hair, glasses, a smile wouldn’t hurt her. My friends and myself expected our plates and coffees put in front of us not ‘dumped’ on the table.

Lovely little cafe on the bay with great views. Warm welcome from staff, then that's it. Waited 15 minutes to order our breakfast, then waited another hour after that. No word from staff about why the wait or anything. Tried to ask but no staff around to catch! When it finally arrived it was disappointing. Burned dry bacon, dry scrambled egg, greasy potato scone. Definitely not made fresh so can't understand the hold up.

Friendly waitress and seated on arrival. Just a coffee and snack stop in-between dog walk. Coffee was ok but bland/weak for my taste buds. Friend enjoyed her empire biscuit. I felt it was overpriced for what we had but main reason I won't return is the coffee. Nice outlook

This is normally a great place to eat but not today. A 40 minute wait for a BLT and cooked breakfast both of which were overcooked. We asked for breakfast tea for two and were served a single pot of tea and a pot of hot water but were charged for two teas. So disappointing. The girls are lovely and friendly and the coffee and cake options were good and popular but the quality of the food was poor. It's been a while since we've eaten there but won't be returning soon.

Went in for Father’s Day brunch and we were informed that they were running a reduced menu due to a new chef in training. We were happy with the explanation and informed the waitress that two of the party has allergens, one nut & one coeliac. After going back & forth to the kitchen we were assured we could be catered for. After quite a long wait our food came out - I had only ordered a bacon sandwich but knew immediately that the bread was not gluten free. I brought this to the waitresses attention and she 100% guaranteed that it was safe for coeliac and I could eat it. I asked her to check the kitchen again and she categorically promised it was gluten free as “she had seen the wrapper” herself. I started to feel uncomfortable and guilty for further pressing the issue however I asked to see the bread just incase. All three wait staff disappeared into the kitchen, and a different member of staff came out to inform me it was not gluten free, I could not eat it and it’s only happened because the chef is in training. I appreciate that everyone needs training and where happy to dine from a reduced menu and have patience with wait times - but a chef and wait staff both not understanding the severity of allergens has left me feeling unsafe to dine here again. The member of staff was apologetic and as I was unable to dine she removed the sandwich and my tea from the bill, but I would have much preferred the member of staff who 100% guaranteed I could eat the sandwich to apologise, or simply not make those sorts of promises. Had I believed her, I would’ve been extremely unwell.

After hearing good reviews about the place I was very disappointed, arrived for takeaway only couldn’t find the takeaway menu available to view from outside, which I found rather strange, as I entered it was displayed on inside facing in the shop, again I found this strange especially with the covid restrictions, proceeded to place order and asked for a latte, white coffee, 3 bacon and sausage rolls and when the girl read back my order she told me two lattes I said no a latte and a white coffee to which she told me they are the same thing, sorry they are not ! After waiting 25 minutes for my order, when I got back to the car and opened the rolls I was shocked as the rolls looked like they had been sat on they were flat they had been ripped open by hand not cut with a knife and basically falling apart the sausage looked like it had been cooked for 25 mins (burnt) for the money we paid certainly wasn’t worth it and won’t be back

First visit to sit in last Saturday - I was fortunate enough to be 5th in the queue at opening time and get the final available table. I knew exactly what I wanted before I even got there so sat with my menu to the side of the table to make it clear I was ready to have my order taken. 20 minutes passed and the server hadn’t even looked in my direction. By this point, I realised by the time my order was taken and then made, along with the other 4 orders that had been taken in front of mines, I would miss the appointment I had scheduled therefore, I had to get up and leave. The server was quick to notice I was leaving and apologised, if they could have noticed how long my menu had been shut for as quickly as they noticed me leaving, then maybe the tone of my review would be different. Second visit as a take away customer earlier this week - asked for a coffee and was advised that service stopped at 3. I was slightly taken aback as I didn’t think it was this late. Upon checking my watch I realised it was 3:01 and pointed out to the sever that it was only to take away and surely this could be done quickly. I was told again that they shut at 3 - despite there clearly being customers still sitting at a table. Third visit as a takeaway customer today (before 3pm) - I ordered 2 x cappuccinos only to realise once home, I had been given 2 cups of warm milk. Not a single hint of coffee in either of the drinks. Warm milk with chocolate sprinkles on top. For £5.20.I can let 1 bad experience go as everywhere has extremely busy/make mistakes but after a third time, I feel like I need to leave a review and make this known. I will not be returning to be disappointed for a fourth time.

Good points: friendly staff, nice coffee, excellent Covid precautions in placeNot so good points: the toastier was the thinnest ever, it looked and tasted like the cheapest of breads used, could not taste any cheese. My wife’s eggs benedict were overcooked with the muffin pretty hard to cut, she should have said at the time but there you go.Overall, we felt the £16+ for the eggs, a toastie (no salad) and two coffees represented poor value. If the quality had been of a higher standard, no problem, but it wasn’t.

We had lunch in Gourock and then decided to try out the Cove for coffee and cake as we read in the local paper that it had recently been revamped. It was our first and LAST visit. We arrived at around 2.30pm and even before going in to the establishment you have to squeeze past many garbage bins which are kept on the pavement, this should have been a warning however we had walked 30mins to get there and wanted to give it a try. The tables are far to close together, the service is absolutely terrible, the staff dont seem to care about the customers, it is so slow. There was very limited supply of cakes, no scones. We ordered tea, coffee and one coconut square (stale). The setting of this place is good, HOWEVER the windows were streaming with condensation and could not see out.Bottom line, I would suggest going somewhere else, there are plenty of good places to eat and drink in Gourock, this is NOT one of them.

Invited mum to lunch as she had never been before and couldn’t be more disappointed, a quick snack turned into being in there for almost 3 hours all in and for a Monday and having 3 members of staff on FOH this was ridiculous. Was seated ‘eventually’ at a dirty table and tables surrounding us were covered in previous customers plates still. People were coming in and being sat at tables which hadn’t been cleared yet, when it was not busy enough to be an issue. When we eventually, after about an hour, received our food both meals bread were rock solid and couldn’t cut with a knife, which we then made the waitress aware. To my surprise she left our plates on the table instead of taking back to the kitchen to replace we were brought 1 piece of toasted dry bread on a plate which the waitress plonked on the table, said nothing and just about ran away which was a bit confusing. I then had to ask another member of staff if this was their ‘fix’ of the issue and had to ask for butter as none of the spread from the original order was on the new piece of bread ♀️ Drinks were taken off the bill which was kind but not necessary, our order should have been remade as not much of it was eaten due to this. FOH staff definitely need to be trained on how to deal with customers a bit more i think. Sad One cove rd standard are dropping, used to go all the time.

We visited One Cove Road yesterday afternoon for lunch. Although food and location are fantastic, unfortunately the service was very poor. We ordered coffee and cake theee times and still didn’t get them. We then told the staff not to bother as we didn’t want these items now. However, the price of the (unreceived) coffees/cakes was on the bill and we were asked what was wrong when we asked for said items to be removed. We were told they were very busy and they try their best. There’s actually a counter for folks to come in to buy carry out snacks, rather than sit in the cafe and these customers were always served first, hence our forgotten coffee/cakes, which we had waited half and hour for, had reminded the staff three times for, and had never received. We suggest that there should be a member of staff to serve the walk-in shop customers and other staff members could then serve the sit-in cafe customers. In that way, the cafe customers would also get served as efficiently as the walk-in ones.

The cheese and onion toastie was flavoursome, accompanied by crisps and can be added to with the addition of soup or coleslaw. The flat white coffee was very well presented, delicious and very good value at £2.55 a cup. This is definitely a place to revisit and was very popular with tables constantly filled up as diners left.

The Cove came recommended and it didn't disappoint. Managed to get a window seat which was a bonus. The tea and timer is a quirky idea and it draws you in watching and waiting with anticipation . I had the French toast and bacon with a side of grilled tomato while my wife had poached eggs never easy to get right but they were perfect . The service could not be faulted throughout . Definitely a family feel

The reviews looked good but this was certainly NOT our experience. The place was absolutely stifling (a very warm day but windows which can open or a fan would have been helpful); it was incredibly noisy; the smell of bleach was overwhelming and the one toilet had a blocked sink full of dirty water! The snack we had was just ok. My tea (accompanied by a pretentious egg timer) was very weak even after my allotted ‘time’ and my husband’s latte was tepid. I was glad to get out. The view was good but not good enough to make us return. Ever.

Visited One Cove Road this morning and had the full Scottish breakfast. The breakfast was lovely and well cooked, always like to have two fried eggs with my breakfast and this was not a problem for the staff. The coffee was also great I like my coffee strong so asked for an extra shot and the coffee was delivered just before my breakfast lovely and warm.

My partner has lived in Gourock for over 10 years and stated that One Cove Road is one of the best places to eat, sadly our last experience did not match this. The cafe was busy and understaffed on arrival. Having worked in service before I understand that being busy cannot be helped and I had complete patience with this. We were sat at our table after about 10 minutes and then our orders and drinks arrived in good time. Both my partner and I are vegetarian so ordered the vegan chilli. We waited 40 - 50 minutes for our food to arrive and what arrived was really not up to the standards my partner had discussed before. You would not call what arrived chilli - it was more of a bizarre powder. It was dry and tasteless - no sauce at all. I ordered the nachos so I was saved by the salsa and sour cream, however my partner ordered the cheese and chilli sandwich and stated it was dry and totally unappetising. The worst lunch I have had in a while. A real shame.

My wife and I had a late lunch at ‘One Cove Road’, Gourock. It was a wet and dreary day but this cafe certainly brought some sunshine into the day! I had the ‘Eggs Ecosse’, - potato scones topped with black pudding, poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce on the side, - excellent combination, perfect poached eggs, my wife had the ‘baked potato with sweet chilli chicken’ again excellent! Make a point of looking out for this place when you drive through Gourock. P.S. The strawberry milk shake with cream was also excellent, for me always the acid test!

I've always been a bit of a fan of One Cove Road, but it's gone down in my estimation recently and is perhaps resting on its laurels.

I love this cafe, and were it not for the noise I would have given it 5 stars. The food and service are 1st class, the view over the bay amazing, however, as the "background" music is so loud customers have to talk even louder to be heard at table conversations. This spoils the experience, I'm afraid. Otherwise a top notch place to eat.

I have came here several times for some brunch, the food is great, you normally have to wait for a table as it's quite small ans always busy. There is a great selection of brunch dishes from croque monsieur sandwich, soup, salads, sandwiches to many types of eggs Benedict... i always get the one with black pudding.. they also have nice herbal teas and lots of home baking at the front to eat in or takeaway. Nice view over the river Clyde and normally some swans swimming about. Beautiful on a nice day and right beside the Battery Park to walk afterwards. There is parking spaces right outside.

We ordered lunch my husband having the full breakfast which is available all day. He couldn’t fault it and enjoyed it. I ordered a steak and onion long type sandwich. The bread part was cold and not crispy, the 4 slices of large size tomatoes on it also really cold, onions which would have been nice had they been warmer and strips of steak could also have been warmer. Because the bread part and tomatoes were cold it made the whole thing unappetising. I had to mention to the girl serving that it was very cold could they heat it please. It came back with the bread part and tomatoes only slightly heated. It should have been piping hot and not served with 4 slices of cold tomato on it and no steak knife making it difficult to cut the steak. We then waited a long time (just over 15 minutes) after we were finished for someone to come back and see what else we wanted. .We asked for two different types of scones and coffee. However, they were definitely not round scones as we know them but squares cut from either a loaf or cake. The outside of the squares of loaf/cake quite dry as though they had been cut a while and the air had got at them. The little pot of jam provided wasn’t nearly enough to spread over them.

Stopped at One Cove Road for a quick morning coffee on a Sunday excursion and found that we weren't the only people out earlyish. There was a good crowd eating breakfast. We ordered coffees to take away, but then there was some space to sit on high stools at the counter, so we sat inside. After a few minutes we were served a piece of coconut cake with raspberries and jam on the house. Very nice!

Great food, lovely decor and very attentive staff. Unfortunately we watched Wrong Jovi right after and words can't describe just how terrible and disjointed the band was. Haven't laughed so much watching the bouncer having to stand and save female audience members from the guitarist and not the other way round. 🤣 Good point to take from this is The Albany will continue to serve great food and keep the atmosphere in the restaurant.
