Decent good at a good price with good service, also child friendly

Vegetables with the steak pie could have done with a bit longer in the pot, as were a bit under done, and would have like boiled or roast potatoes rather than mashed potato served as not everyone's favorite choice. And I thought the steak had to much fat left on it, which i don't like a lot of and puts me off this kind of dish. So marked it down one star for this reason otherwise service and the rest of the meal was good.

A hidden gem,in West blackhall St, what a find this was. Good interior with great furnishings and friendly staff,we ordered breakfast just before the cut-off point of 1200,big portions with not so big prices!!! I don't know where you will get a full breakfast ,all the good stuff, for under £8. Plenty other breakfast items on the menu, if not a big appetite. Fully licensed, and operates ,breakfast, lunch, and evening meal, with a great selection at all servings, with all the classics on the menu. Staff were on hand without being too fussy,very pleasant. Will need to be back soon, too. Try something else.

Popped in for breakfast which I used to really enjoy, always had the vegetarian breakfast, over cooked egg, beans and potato scone pretty awful, tiny amount of avocado and poached egg undercooked which had to be returned to kitchen, so disappointed as used to enjoy a balfe breakfast.

Had the ballet burger and chunky chips. Chips were delicious but burger I found tasteless, even added salt to it but no improvement. Left half of it.

Dirty dishes, the glass I was given had lipstick stains, and personally didn't like the Bolognese sauce. It was a bit sour and didn't have enough taste. Also, the dishes don't match the interior and atmosphere of the Café.

Food was lovely, both got steak pie. all the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Was a good vibe about the place. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I went here a few weeks ago for lunch with a friend. The atmosphere was good and staff were helpful & friendly. I ordered the open steak sandwich with fries which was delicious, service was quick considering they were very busy at lunchtime and the portion was quite large! I would come here again.

Try the French fries or the macaroni and cheese both are to die for, restaurant is a lovely place to eat and you never feel rushed, would always recommend to friends and family, if you guys do delivery I can't find anything online to give a definite answer, please make this more known in your window or something cause I'd be ordering every night if I could 😀

One of our favourite family town centre restaurants. Great food, good sized portions, excellent value for money. Its a popular place, nice family atmosphere at all times of day and eavning, good for pre theatre meals. Although busy, the service is good, staff are pleasant and very attentive. A repeat favourite, it does close a little early some nights, so book early.

No surprises here. Just a simple but well executed baked potato with chilli and cheese. I just wish there were more food alternatives on West Blackhall Street (or Greenock in general).

Bit disappointing at times. Asked for a blt toastie, got a sandwich. I started to eat it cos I was hungry. It was tasteless! Bacon tasted like it was cooked it water & water on the salad. Other foods are over spiced at times, I like spice, but way too much and over garlicky. Staff are friendly.

My food was lovely but other person ordered steak and onion wrap which was too spicy to eat think it should be advertised as a spicy steak and onion to stop confusion 7

Went here for lunch with my mum. We asked the waitress how the curry was, she told us it was beautiful and delicious, which obviously she had to say anyway!. We ordered 2 beef curries and what a disappointment. A lot of the thin sliced beef was rolled up in chunks which I didn't like, but the curry sauce itself was horrible. We make curry at home from scratch a lot, so we know what it should taste like. This sauce was basically spicy, but tasteless, no other flavours at all, just as if it was hot water with curry powder added. So disappointed. The waitresses were quite annoying also, constantly at the table wanting to take your order before we were ready. Half way through eating I asked for a glass of water and had to ask another 3 times for it. The worst thing I think was when the waitress came to clear the plates and most of our food was still on the plate, but she didn't even bat an eyelid at this, didn't even ask us if everything was ok with our meal, nothing, apart from did we want the dessert menus! So bad. I've had these problems now a few times in here, so unfortunately I won't be going back again.

Thought I would try here for lunch. Food was OK. Overpriced For what it is. Top of table was sticky. Small thing but made me fell uncomfortable. Would return & try other food on menu.

The food was really lovely both hubby and I throughly enjoyed it The waitress was on her own and in tune with the barmaid who had the drinks on the bar waiting for her toot sweet !! Both of them were excellent , the resturant was busy and they both worked in unison very very well ! We had a lovely anniversary meal and it was made so much better by the hard working staff ! Thank you , they deserve a bonus for last night alone ! We shall be back for food and drinks again thank you

Great establishment with lots of offerings on the menu. Was very busy when we visited. Food was prepared quickly, was tasty and plentiful and very reasonably priced. Asparagus soup and toasted Cajun chicken sandwich were delicious.

Wandered round looking for a place to have lunch. Cafe Balfe seemed the best bet. Quite a few people already lunching. Waitress was very friendly throughout. We had he open steak sandwich on garlic bread and the spicy pasta Arrabbiata. Both excellent.

Popped in with my daughter for lunch. Wow! Food was amazing! I had the BBQ chicken melt. Best meal I have had in a long time!! My daughter chose the cheeseburger and thoroughly enjoyed. 2 empty plates at the end of lunch. This will be our first choice when going out for food again. Staff friendly and speedy service.

Went for dinner with family. All of the staff were very friendly, welcoming and catered for us well. Our drinks/food orders were taken without much of a wait, and we didn’t have to wait long for our starters/mains either. The food quality was spot on, as well as decent sized portions too. Everyone cleared their plates :) Cafe Balfe has always been a favourite within the family for years whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner and it’s great to see that the restaurant is still thriving. We will definitely be back, thank you for such a great experience.

Called in for early dinner. Menu is quite varied and we dine here quite often. On being shown to our table we are usually asked right away what we’d like to drink but for some reason it took almost 15 minutes for a different waiter to take our order - both drinks and food. I had the steak pie, vegetable and mash. The steak was lovely and tender but the mash was lukewarm at best. As for the carrots it’s the first time I’ve ever had to peel the carrots served with my meal. Peas would have been a nice addition too. My partner had the Southern Fried Chicken which he said was great. As for myself I think I’ll give the steak pie a miss next time.

Food arrived quickly and hot. All the dishes were tasty (steak pie, lasagna and chicken enchiladas ) and potions large enough. Kid friendly too. Good value for money. Only improvement would be to turn the heating down a touch - it was almost uncomfortably hot. Would recommend and will return.

So 6 of us went to Cafe Balfe last night for one of our colleagues leaving night. We all ordered our meals 2 of which were the enchiladas one was chicken and mine was the vegetable one seen I’m a vegetarian. The girl brought them to us stating which was which and I proceeded to eat this. I had taken a few bites before realising that my vegetarian one was in fact chicken. I said to the staff who confirmed that they got it wrong and I was eating chicken. They apologised stating the girl was just new and human error, I accept this and did feel bad for the girl and did give her a hug however I’m a vegetarian for a reason and I’m very careful with what I eat even down to sweets which I check all ingredients. It’s a very personal choice for me however if this was a food allergy then things could have been very different. They offered to make me a vegetable one and for my colleague who was eating my vegetable one a chicken one, My colleague was happy eating what she had and never noticed there was no chicken. I agreed to another meal and managed to eat a little before the disgust knocked me and I spewed the whole lot up! The bill came and there was no discount or offers of another meal at another time which would have been nice as I doubt I’d go back now after this. They even charged for the chicken enchilada which my friend never got coz I got it instead! 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m very angry that this happened, as much as it did I did not want to ruin everyone else’s night so we all carried on and had a good night. Cafe Balfe this is not ok I’m sure you understand my disgust and the very fact you still charged us for that meal As the picture states CLAIMED vegetarian friendly 🤬🤢🤮

I got hotdog which was nice but was served on a toasted baguette bun which hard to eat & didn't go well with hot dog, used to serve amazing seasoned chips now they just serve plain, my partner got mac and cheese which was horrible full of grease, think it was from the melted cheese.. Worst mac and cheese she's ever had. Would go back but wouldn't order them dishes again

Hadn’t eaten here for around 8 years so decided to visit again. The service was fairly quick and the waitresses were friendly. The starters were tasty and the portions were sizeable. The chicken enchiladas was lovely and the beef burger tasty. The chicken burger wasn’t anything special. The meals come with LOADS of fries but I’d have preferred thick cut chips. The coleslaw is far too thick and sickly to be edible. Yuk! Overall, the food was good but maybe a little pricey.

After attending a checkup at local opticians Tuesday morning I popped into cafe Balfe for a coffee. I hadn't been in for sometime due to Lock down and was most impressed with how everything they had done to deal with the cleaning and sanitising distancing and track and trace. Wish all places would follow this. Keep up the good work.

I went there , my first time, and undecided on what to have. I had the mushroom and asparagus risotto which was delicious the rice and portion size was perfect it had just the right flavour and bite. Gordon Ramsay would be proud. The staff were lovely and and nothing was too much bother for them. The space and ambience was perfect. Thank you and well done

We’d booked a table to be sure we could have dinner before going to the cinema. The four of us have differing tastes but the menu is varied enough that we had no problem choosing. Our choices were Southern Fried Chicken Burger, Steak Pie, Chicken Enchilada and Chicken Curry. All were tasty and well presented. The service was prompt and friendly. Prices were a bit on the pricey side but worth it.

Nice food and good service for kids, made to feel welcome with our children and not isolated. Good experience all round! Only criticism is portions change

The four of us have very different tastes in food. One being extremely fussy. This cafe menu has something for everyone, even Mr Fussy. Steak Pie, Balfe Burger, Enchiladas and a pear and walnut salad. All delicious. Banana split is just the perfect thing to finish your meal with. No squirty cream here, proper whipped cream. Lovely coffee too. X

Went here just for some lunch time snacks 😁, were pleasantly surprised, good menu and great to choose from . Food was good & filled us up 👌🏽 Well worth the visit & reasonable priced 😜 . Deffo will be back 👍🏼xx..

We went twice to this cafe whilst holiday back in our home town, soup was amazing. We will make sure we visit again highly recommend. Staff fantastic also.

Review on behalf of partner and sister in law. Quiet lunch and the food was excellent. Really couldn’t fault the food. 1) Toastie and a soup with a soft drink and the food was excellent.2) BBQ chicken panini and juice. Again fantastic food and couldn’t fault the food. The table was filthy though and marked my clothes. Had to wipe the table which was quite unpleasant. Usually eat out locally and tables can be messy however I’ve never had to wash my clothes afterward due to table cleanliness before. It would have been a perfect score otherwise and I’m not fussy enough to complain or leave a poor review as the food was lovely.

Apart from the lazy norm of pastry cooked separate and dry ... somehow they managed to burn the stew they placed the dry pastry on. Yes stew that had hard black, burned crunchy bits you could break a tooth on. Best I could figure they cooked without ever stirring and still served the bits burned on to the bottom of the pot. Rounded this off with "Seasonl" veg from a freezer bagWould go back for breakfast but really doubt I would go for any other meal

We went here to meet up with some girls we hadn’t seen for a while. We had a huge booth near the back. The staff were delightful, all very friendly and efficient. The menu was full of different meals and you could have a snack or light bite if you didn’t fancy a large meal. It catered to most tastes which is good for a big group.

Came here based on TA reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The venue is open and spacious and if I’m honest well finished from what I saw.

Although friendly and helpful staff the place is tired looking and could do with a makeover. The toasted ham and cheese sandwich ordered was piping hot and delicious served with a little bowl of fries.

If you want a nice quiet lunch this definitely ticks the box. Occasionally I will pop in with a friend for a latte and chat and it's always good.

We went on a really busy Saturday evening; there was a birthday party in the back area; but there were plenty of staff to look after the restaurant. My steak sandwich was jam packed with beautifully cooked steak, so much I couldn't eat it all! When the waitress came to the table she asked if there was anything wrong with the food, and I explained my small appetite. A couple of mins later the manager came over o make sure it was ok for me. She was so nice and offered that I take the remainder home, which I happily did! Great customer service.

The food was that great it was under cooked and I walked out leave the burger I ordered. They also have the habit of covering the plate in red pepper?????

We popped in at around 11.30 for coffee and a tasty snack. When we saw the breakfast menu was available until mid day we both decided to order cappuccinos and the Café Balfe light breakfast.

My daughter and I stopped off for a late lunch on Friday 6th July. Food was really nice and we were served quickly by friendly staff. This is a really nice cafe in an ideal location and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Went for breakfast. Great menu. Friendly staff, good prices. I would have given 5 stars but the menus were vert tatty and need replacing and the candle holders (not just on our table) were "dirty". My tea came in a nice mug on a saucer, but i had nowhere to put the teabag when I took it out of the cup. With a bit more attention to detail Cafe Balfe would certainly deserve 5 stars.

Food pretty Mediocre , waitress fine , price not bad or good, would not rush back there, menus pretty boaring .

We walked in off the street and got a table, even though they were busy. Good service and food was great. I don't think I've ever had a Lasagne that was a hot at the end of the meal as at the beginning. These are in individually cooked servings. My partner had the veal was was also very good.
