Cafe Balfe in Inverclyde

A hidden gem,in West blackhall St, what a find this was. Good interior with great furnishings and friendly staff,we ordered breakfast just before the cut-off point of 1200,big portions with not so big prices!!! I don't know where you will get a full breakfast ,all the good stuff, for under £8. Plenty other breakfast items on the menu, if not a big appetite. Fully licensed, and operates ,breakfast, lunch, and evening meal, with a great selection at all servings, with all the classics on the menu. Staff were on hand without being too fussy,very pleasant. Will need to be back soon, too. Try something else.

Food was lovely, both got steak pie. all the staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Was a good vibe about the place. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I went here a few weeks ago for lunch with a friend. The atmosphere was good and staff were helpful & friendly. I ordered the open steak sandwich with fries which was delicious, service was quick considering they were very busy at lunchtime and the portion was quite large! I would come here again.

Try the French fries or the macaroni and cheese both are to die for, restaurant is a lovely place to eat and you never feel rushed, would always recommend to friends and family, if you guys do delivery I can't find anything online to give a definite answer, please make this more known in your window or something cause I'd be ordering every night if I could 😀

A very busy cafe but they still managed to serve the foods quickly. Everything we ordered is delicious! Staffs are friendly too.

One of our favourite family town centre restaurants. Great food, good sized portions, excellent value for money. Its a popular place, nice family atmosphere at all times of day and eavning, good for pre theatre meals. Although busy, the service is good, staff are pleasant and very attentive. A repeat favourite, it does close a little early some nights, so book early.

No surprises here. Just a simple but well executed baked potato with chilli and cheese. I just wish there were more food alternatives on West Blackhall Street (or Greenock in general).

Bit disappointing at times. Asked for a blt toastie, got a sandwich. I started to eat it cos I was hungry. It was tasteless! Bacon tasted like it was cooked it water & water on the salad. Other foods are over spiced at times, I like spice, but way too much and over garlicky. Staff are friendly.

Thought I would try here for lunch. Food was OK. Overpriced For what it is. Top of table was sticky. Small thing but made me fell uncomfortable. Would return & try other food on menu.

Great establishment with lots of offerings on the menu. Was very busy when we visited. Food was prepared quickly, was tasty and plentiful and very reasonably priced. Asparagus soup and toasted Cajun chicken sandwich were delicious.

Great cafe Great value for money

After attending a checkup at local opticians Tuesday morning I popped into cafe Balfe for a coffee. I hadn't been in for sometime due to Lock down and was most impressed with how everything they had done to deal with the cleaning and sanitising distancing and track and trace. Wish all places would follow this. Keep up the good work.

I went there , my first time, and undecided on what to have. I had the mushroom and asparagus risotto which was delicious the rice and portion size was perfect it had just the right flavour and bite. Gordon Ramsay would be proud. The staff were lovely and and nothing was too much bother for them. The space and ambience was perfect. Thank you and well done

We’d booked a table to be sure we could have dinner before going to the cinema. The four of us have differing tastes but the menu is varied enough that we had no problem choosing. Our choices were Southern Fried Chicken Burger, Steak Pie, Chicken Enchilada and Chicken Curry. All were tasty and well presented. The service was prompt and friendly. Prices were a bit on the pricey side but worth it.

Nice food and good service for kids, made to feel welcome with our children and not isolated. Good experience all round! Only criticism is portions change

The four of us have very different tastes in food. One being extremely fussy. This cafe menu has something for everyone, even Mr Fussy. Steak Pie, Balfe Burger, Enchiladas and a pear and walnut salad. All delicious. Banana split is just the perfect thing to finish your meal with. No squirty cream here, proper whipped cream. Lovely coffee too. X

Went here just for some lunch time snacks 😁, were pleasantly surprised, good menu and great to choose from . Food was good & filled us up 👌🏽 Well worth the visit & reasonable priced 😜 . Deffo will be back 👍🏼xx..

We went twice to this cafe whilst holiday back in our home town, soup was amazing. We will make sure we visit again highly recommend. Staff fantastic also.

Review on behalf of partner and sister in law. Quiet lunch and the food was excellent. Really couldn’t fault the food. 1) Toastie and a soup with a soft drink and the food was excellent.2) BBQ chicken panini and juice. Again fantastic food and couldn’t fault the food. The table was filthy though and marked my clothes. Had to wipe the table which was quite unpleasant. Usually eat out locally and tables can be messy however I’ve never had to wash my clothes afterward due to table cleanliness before. It would have been a perfect score otherwise and I’m not fussy enough to complain or leave a poor review as the food was lovely.

Apart from the lazy norm of pastry cooked separate and dry ... somehow they managed to burn the stew they placed the dry pastry on. Yes stew that had hard black, burned crunchy bits you could break a tooth on. Best I could figure they cooked without ever stirring and still served the bits burned on to the bottom of the pot. Rounded this off with "Seasonl" veg from a freezer bagWould go back for breakfast but really doubt I would go for any other meal

Friendly, quiet, good service. Good food. Location is not to bad. Although there are other restaurants on the same street. Wheel chair capacity. Have rest rooms that are clean

We went here to meet up with some girls we hadn’t seen for a while. We had a huge booth near the back. The staff were delightful, all very friendly and efficient. The menu was full of different meals and you could have a snack or light bite if you didn’t fancy a large meal. It catered to most tastes which is good for a big group.

Popped in for brunch. Plenty to choose from and food was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Staff were friendly and service was efficient.

Came here based on TA reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The venue is open and spacious and if I’m honest well finished from what I saw.

Although friendly and helpful staff the place is tired looking and could do with a makeover. The toasted ham and cheese sandwich ordered was piping hot and delicious served with a little bowl of fries.

just had all the weans in last night for a joint birthday celebration the staff couldn't be more helpful and the food is amazing ,been loads of times.highly recommended

Excellent place great food friendly staff ,clean etc what more can you ask .have been many time over the years since it opened and have never been disappointed , can be a bit of a wait when place is full ,but certainly worth it

If you want a nice quiet lunch this definitely ticks the box. Occasionally I will pop in with a friend for a latte and chat and it's always good.

We went on a really busy Saturday evening; there was a birthday party in the back area; but there were plenty of staff to look after the restaurant. My steak sandwich was jam packed with beautifully cooked steak, so much I couldn't eat it all! When the waitress came to the table she asked if there was anything wrong with the food, and I explained my small appetite. A couple of mins later the manager came over o make sure it was ok for me. She was so nice and offered that I take the remainder home, which I happily did! Great customer service.

Went in to try out this local cafe for breakfast.

The food was that great it was under cooked and I walked out leave the burger I ordered. They also have the habit of covering the plate in red pepper?????

We popped in at around 11.30 for coffee and a tasty snack. When we saw the breakfast menu was available until mid day we both decided to order cappuccinos and the Café Balfe light breakfast.

My daughter and I stopped off for a late lunch on Friday 6th July. Food was really nice and we were served quickly by friendly staff. This is a really nice cafe in an ideal location and I would certainly recommend it to anyone.

Food is very good..the portions are a good size..and it's reasonable priced.. Good selection on menu.. Not too much that it's overwhelming but enough choice for everyone in my family to find something.. Staff helpful and friendly..always enjoy my visit there and looking forward to going back .

Went for breakfast. Great menu. Friendly staff, good prices. I would have given 5 stars but the menus were vert tatty and need replacing and the candle holders (not just on our table) were "dirty". My tea came in a nice mug on a saucer, but i had nowhere to put the teabag when I took it out of the cup. With a bit more attention to detail Cafe Balfe would certainly deserve 5 stars.

Food pretty Mediocre , waitress fine , price not bad or good, would not rush back there, menus pretty boaring .

We walked in off the street and got a table, even though they were busy. Good service and food was great. I don't think I've ever had a Lasagne that was a hot at the end of the meal as at the beginning. These are in individually cooked servings. My partner had the veal was was also very good.

Had a really warm welcome from the staff, prompt service and great coffee. Will certainly return more often and will bring friends.

We have had lunch in Cafe Balfe on a couple of occasions. It is an unpretentious place, but bright, clean, airy and stylish. The food is good, the service is friendly but not over unctuous. And the prices are reasonable. We will be back.

We were only here for a coffee and a sweet treat although others around us ordered food that looked beautiful. The staff were very friendly and there is a nice relaxed feel about the place. Definitely worth a visit.

My go to place in Inverclyde for a meal. The penne arrabiatta is to die for! (I’m weak so it’s a little spicy but I can deal with that) Food always comes super quick and staff are so friendly and efficient.

This is a great place to go whatever the occasion. Food is great lots of selection and reasonably priced. The staff are lovely and very helpful great atmosphere as well.

Not a great place to eat but wouldnt say out and out bad either just dont rate it a lot myself ,haveing been a few times i think its went down hill from when it first opened

A nice relaxing place to have a bite to eat or a cuppa. The food, prices and service are very good with a nice relaxing atmosphere.

Got put at a table centre room with everyone on the outside of the room which made it awkward had to ask to change seats, got the sharing plater which came out in honestly 5 minutes flat which means it's not fresh and didn't taste fresh. Then literlly not even a minute the mainsbcame out so it felt like i was cattle just being fed,I got the chicken enchilada and half the wrap was soggy half was just a crisp, chips obviously are frozen chips salad was not fresh tomatoes were soggy girlfriend got fish and chips the side of mushy peas were obiously microwaved fise just fell to pieces, then it took a full 40 minutes for a waiter to even come over and ask if we enjoyed it and if we would like the bill.

One of the most inept and uninterested waitresses I have had the displeasure of serving me ,, starter was the smallest mussels I’ve ever come across pee wee Herman has bigger mussels , main course steak pie had to be returned as steak was cold on return whole plate had been re heated in microwave causing the other ingredients to join with the steak in being overcooked reheated junk to top it off condiments come in sachet form ,, this is not a restaurant

We have been to this eatery many times and it never lets us down. Top notch staff, very childfriendly and the food is very good with good portions.

First time visit and will be the last . I Could not get a table at Twist so came here. Restaurant looked clean and welcoming but sadly that’s all that was good. I ordered soup and a Cajun chicken sandwich , the soup tasted like lentil out of a tin and the bread for the sandwich was hard and stale . My fellow diners were not impressed either.

Often meet friends here for coffee. Always manage to get a table and coffee is good. This week we had delicious bacon rolls. Service was good too.

Left after 15 minutes without being served. Bizarrely staff were sitting opposite just to add insult to injury, pity because it is generally good place to get coffee albeit sometimes busy, though not today

We had a Saturday lunch here recently. The menu offers a good choice for lunch or brunch. I opted for nachos with chilli and my husband had a Balfe breakfast. All the food was tasty and well presented. Service was good.

I've been to Cafe Balfe on numerous occasions and I have never had a problem until recently. The last time we visited, it took 40 minutes for our food to get to us, then another half an hour for the bill to get to us, despite asking twice. However, granted it was busy, we did not complain, even whilst being disappointed. After having friends ask to join them for dinner, we returned on a relatively quiet night to be met by a rude and abrupt waitress who seemed to have no time for us. Her attitude stayed with her the whole night. Service was yet again slow and the food was not to its usual standard. I most likely will not be returning.

Popped in for a quick lunch, first time ever being in Cafe Balfe and it definatley will not be my last. Service was quick and very pleasant, lunch was very tasty and we all really enjoyed it. Looking forward to my next visit x

I always think it's a sign of good food is a place is busy midweek and cafe Balfe is exactly that. I have been a few times and ordered different dishes and they have never disappointed. The portions are quite big and the prices are reasonable. Would recommend.

Really lovely atmosphere here, friendly staff. We only had cappuccinos but they were very good. The restaurant was busy and everyone seemed to be tucking into delicious looking food.

Been to Cafe Balfe on numerous occasions every one was a winner great food, good prices and happy courteous staff. You will always find something to suit you no matter what time of day you go in and even the fussiest eaters will enjoy their meals. Cannot fault this place go on give it a go!!

Visited in august 2017. Friendly service from staff. Expensive main meals and alcohol, chips/ fries are inedible as slim fries over cooked although steak sandwich very nice. Average place to visit and decent service from the staff. Central location within greenock, just don't buy any chips/ fries as they are stinking. Overall decent food apart from the chips!!!

Always enjoy coming here. Great quality food, food quick to come out and very friendly service. Sweet chilli chicken pasta is a particular favourite!

Cafe Balfe is always great, food first class and great service. Have been going there for years and it never changes fabulous all the time.

Went in early afternoon to miss tea time rush my husband and I thought we would have a treat as we have been on healthy eating we both got fish and chips mushy peas tarter sauce what a disappointment £17 for ten limp chips peas weren't very warm fish batter a bit soggy wasn't worth the money came out feeling sick definitely won't be back
