Best toastie going. Hands down the best toastie I’ve ever eaten. I always go for the meatballs and have never been let down. Only feedback would be to offer better quality coffee.

Went with my dad right before closing, got sticky chicken, best toastie I've ever had. The man serving was extremely friendly and quick with service. Will definitely return. Phenomenal food.

Its a must stop if you are visiting Gloucester Dockes your shore to have a full stomach after the fillings are tops very 👍.

We were visiting the historic docks for the first time and saw this place and decided to grab lunch here. Friendly service, chatted to other customers whilst waiting for a freshly cooked, piping hot, and densely filled toasties. Son had the meat feast and declared it the best toasted sandwich ever. Bloke who runs it is rude and food was substandard for price. Feel ripped off and insulted all at once. Ordered food and had to listen to him whining about the beautiful docks and running the place down . Such a shame. My advice don’t bother. Plenty of good food places to go around this area.

Situated in Gloucester historic docks, by the water, this tiny shop (take away only with no seating) sells only toasted sandwiches but, boy are they all GOOD! Lots of choice of fillings and they are all delicious. David does not skimp on the fillings. You can order in advance or just turn up, but be prepared for a short wait as it is all cooked to order, super fresh. The owner and cook is David who is friendly and chatty and does everything himself. We had a Paddington (brie, red onion & marmalade), a Fiery Welsh Dragon ( cheddar, leeks and tabasco), a Sticky chicken ( chicken with sweet chilli sauce and mozzarella) and a Meaty Marathi (chicken tikka & onion bhaji with mint sauce) - all absolutely delicious and very filling. It's so hard to choose which one to have! Highly recommended.

Took my two sons to Gloucester for a few days and stopped here after visiting the docks and The Soldiers of Gloucester museum. We had the Westcountry, Hawaiian and Meet Feast and they were all delicious. We ordered at the door and was given a time to return. Very reasonable prices too

Great cheese and ham toasted sandwich, possibly the best I’ve ever had! The venue is still observing social distancing but it is worth the wait to order.

I love toasted sandwiches so I decided to go here for lunch after seeing all the great reviews and I wasn't disappointed. I think it is probably the best toastie I have ever had - piping hot, golden and a very generous filling. It was also very reasonably priced - £3.55 for a ham & cheese toastie. The owner was very friendly so all in all an excellent experience. At the moment it is only possible to have takeaways but the weather was fine so we found a bench on the quay and then enjoyed our toasties. If you like toasties then I thoroughly recommend going to this place.

Not been for a few months but this place never disappoints. So much choice, toasties are really filling and very reasonably priced, lovely coffee.

No matter when you go to on toast you'll always get great service and great food. Also grab a really good coffee. We sat outside in the sunshine and enjoy views over the historic docks.

After a damp morning walking around the docks, we stopped in at Toast for a warming hot drink - unfortunately it was a little too early for lunch, otherwise we would have indulged in one of the many toasties that are the specialities of this...

Moroccan (Minted Lamb & Natural Yoghurt) on brown. Chunks of deliciously tender lamb in a bonkersly tasty, thick sauce, deep-filled to the limit. Served in a foiled, easy to carry bag that keeps everything just right until you're ready. Very, very good.

Nice little find for a sunny morning! Seating outside and stools with raised bench tables inside. Great selection of toasties and the normal juices, teas and coffee. Friendly service and really tasty toasties. Easy access on the side of the quay.

Went here for lunch and wow... Hunters chicken with bacon and cheese was to die for. The menu had a great selection and to be honest I am glad I don't live too close or I would be there every day.. excellent

We visited the establishment based on a recommendation and needless to say, it did not disappoint!

Had a £5 meal deal where you choose two fillings, a soft drink and packet of crisps. We had a mushroom and cheese, also a bacon and cheese, both packed and delicious. There are also plenty of other options. We ate on the bench outside in the sunshine and watched the world go by.

I keep coming back to On Toast- so much better than buying a takeaway sandwich from a shop. The toasties are always full to bursting, and excellent value, with lots of interesting flavours to choose from. There's often a lovely atmosphere whilst you're waiting for your freshly made toastie, with the staff happy to chat and plenty of regulars who might just join in.

Great value for money toasted sandwiches! Plenty of different ones to choose from. Made fresh to order. My wife and I really enjoyed stopping here for a lazy lunch after some shopping in the quays!

Best toasties ever! Whatever you ordered you will get the best! I’ve been here numerous amounts of times and never been let down! The owner is the nicest guy ever! They do your ordinary ham and cheese to Italian and bbq pulled pork! My favourite is ham cheese onion and pineapple! They also do sweet toasties too! It’s a must try!

We visited for a quick bite whilst visiting the docks. We grabbed a couple of toasted sandwiches. Both were excellent. Staff were hugely friendly. Would definitely visit again when we are in the area.

My husband really enjoyed his meaty toastie whereas I was disappointed with my tuna and cheese as it was very dry. We had to wait quite a while for our sandwiches as there were a few other people there already. Nice view of the dock while you eat.

On holiday on a very hot day we fancied a snack and called at On Toast. Best toasted sandwiches we had ever had, efficient service and our cups of tea were large and made with quality Yorkshire Tea. Nice to go somewhere which gives complete satisfaction at a good price.

Cozy peaceful shelter with great view of the docks. Have been there three times with my partner for brunch after recommendation from family members, we both loved the toasties and tried different types each time. Good value for money.

We were not planning to visit here but went for a walk around the quays/docks and came across On Toast, i had previously heard how good it was so as it was lunchtime decided to try it for ourselves. We visited on a Sunday and was greeted by a lovely lady and man (the owner i think), i said it was our first visit and he explained the choices etc to us, we were fairly boring and just went for bacon and cheese x 2, bacon and egg and cheese and mushroom and hot drinks and one cold drink. It is mainly to take away but there are a few seats by the window so we sat there and ate our delicious toasties, boy they were good, packed with filling - yum ! Lovely view to the docks and coffee was good too - thank you we will be back !

Visited here a few times and it never disappoints the food is always great and freshly made, it’s always spotlessly clean and the staff are always cheerful and helpful would defiantly recommend visiting it’s a short walk from the quays and very reasonably priced.

..this the place for you. The themed menu is reminiscent of a pizza place e.g. Hawaiian, Chicago etc. There is also a range of sweet versions. Great location and friendly service.

Bar stools inside, tables outside overlooking the main dock, facing the morning sun, even if you can't see it! One simple menu - choice of toasties. I went 3 times in 4 days - recommendation in itself. Fascinating to chat to the proprietor about his background and business.

My first visit to On Toast and certainly not my last! Superb toasties, amazingly varied menu, savoury & sweet, something for everyone. Excellent coffee along with friendly service too. Looking forward to working my way through all the choices 😊

Frequented On Toast a few times whilst based in Gloucester for work and all staff were very friendly, particularly the owner. Lots of interesting and creative ideas for toasties, and good coffee to go with them.

Simple concept but very well executed. Really friendly owner, great food and good coffee. Some people have moaned about the coffee, so I assume they prefer the rats pee pumped out at Costa. This is a fantastic independent spot and well worth popping into.

The experience is excellent - the toasties are lush, not too expensive (worth the price) and I sometimes pre-order over the phone and they are happy to have my toastie waiting for me when I arrive. Staff are very friendly and the service is quick, even during busy periods, excellent hygiene. Score 10/10 ! Well done On Toast!

Trip Adviser rated this as #2 for Coffee and Tea in Gloucester. Well it was the worst cup of coffee we had in England. They may be great on their toasted meals but we were looking for a good coffee and this was not it.

Stopped there for lunch yesterday during the Tall Ships Festival. This restaurant is ideally located on the far side of Gloucester Docks and serves a wide range of toasties, both savoury and sweet. I went for a cheese and onion toastie which was delicious, along with a cheap cup of coffee. This restaurant was cheap compared with some of the trade stalls at the festival. If anyone reading this review goes along to this year's Tall Ships Festival this is certainly a place I would recommend as it is alongside 4 of the ships currently available for viewing. Service was very friendly and efficient and they did well coping with a large volume of visitors for the festival.

What a great little find, set away from the other eateries on the quays. Who knew you could get all these toastie fillings! Reasonable price for a filling toastie. The place itself is a tight squeeze and more seating outside would be a bonus as one gent who seemed to be a regular felt he could monopolise an are where 4 or 5 people could sit this was rather off putting. Other than that I would certainly give the place a thumbs up!

I came here a number of years ago just after it had opened. Great concept and very good location for the (then) forthcoming college. Popped back a couple of Sundays ago. As expected the toastie was very good but the place was looking a little tired. There was a broom at the edge of the food preparation area which still had the sweepings at the bottom of it. It wouldn't have taken a second to pick the rubbish up before dealing with a customer and it would have looked loads better.

The toasties are amazing, great selection to choose from. Always piping hot. Great banter from the staff. If I am ever near the docks and need a snack I always head towards Toast

This continues to be the destination of choice for a big, tasty lunch, so visited on last Sunday and today. The most recent attraction is the belly-buster meat toastie which is crammed full of ham, chicken and so much other stuff, it is surprising they can get the bread either side to meet without the aid of a hydraulic press! The wife had the veggie belly-buster (as usual), Both of these were up to the usual quality - delicious and just the thing for a drizzly dreary dank day in the docks.

A nice warm welcome, and these toasties kept us going while we were working on our boat in the nearby boatyard. Hot, tasty, crunchy, filling and delicious, they are good for breakfast or lunch, or anything in between.

My son and myself visited this place on a frosty Saturday morning. I've lived in Gloucester all my life and visit the docks a few times a year but have never been to this establishment. I had the hunters chicken toasty which was lovely and my son chose the Cadburys Creme egg toasty (a little bizarre of you ask me.), he absolutely loved it. A great little place, great food and a great addition to the fabulous docks. We will return.

It's amazing how they can make something as simple as a toastie so delicious. So delicious in fact, that I have ordered three Deliveroo's from them this week. Try the Moroccan... Absolutely heavenly. Such good value for money. Lifetime customer here.

Decided to order in a takeaway from Deliveroo, and we'd been eyeing up this takeaway since first noticing it. We ordered a Hunters Chicken, Meaty Marathi, Sticky Chicken and West Country. However after waiting, no signs of anything on the Deliveroo app. We contacted Deliveroo who told us that they could not assign a rider (and didn't think to inform us, or the takeaway). Just after finishing our chat with Deliveroo, being offered a refund and feeling hungry and defeated we received a phonecall from the takeaway themselves. They'd also been in contact with Deliveroo, as they had marked the food as delivered even though it obviously wasn't. They offered for us to come collect the food, free of charge, and were VERY friendly and polite. We picked it up, and it was DELICIOUS. Such a cool idea, and executed brilliantly. Will definitely be ordering here again, however won't be using Deliveroo and will be ringing direct for collection. A* recommend this food, comes with fab service! And for what you get, cannot fault the prices!

This is a great little niche cafe. They specialize in Breakfast and Lunch. We ordered teacakes and they were excellent. There was a little glitch with the toast machine and I helped clear it out. Unfortunately, the VERY sensitive fire alarm system went off, but it was quickly shut off as a false alarm. The location is perfect as you can look out on the Gloucester Docks. They also make Toasties. Try the Mars Bar, Snicker Bar, & Nutella one for a sugar rush. I hope this shop becomes a landmark in Gloucester.

This place was recommended to me by colleagues so I had to try! Located on the docks it is an absolute find! I spent ages trying to decide what I wanted as I was spoilt for choice! Very friendly and good prices. Packed i th fillings I recommend the Chicago which is like a pizza. Very yummy!

If a well known beer company did Toast than this would be its head office. Great staff great food and beverages not just an amazing range of toast. Any trip to Gloucester has to include a visit here. Not good for your waistline if you work nearby.

If you are into toasties, this is the place for you pure and simple. It's like toastie heaven. They have a wide selection with both sweet and savoury, made freshly to order. The staff are really friendly and it was well worth the walk out of the city centre to find it.

This small café, located on the north side of the docks, is well worth the 5 minute walk from the south side.

This is a little hidden gem in the beautiful setting of Gloucester docks. People come from miles around to taste the food here. Don't be put off that it's all toasties. You will not believe the ingredients use, top class And tongue tantalizing. You'll never taste a better toastie any where. A real meal feast whether it's savory or sweet. Service - fantastic. Food very nice - huge portions - I had the Hunters Chicken toasted sandwich - chicken, bacon and cheese with BBQ sauce - very nice but was missing coriander in my opinion - I like BBQ chicken pizza's in America - enough for 2 people really. Highly recommended - near Tommy's shipyard. Has nice tables outside right by the marina. Pleasant.

Fantastic place, we have now been twice, with all the cookie cutter same old restaurants everywhere, these small, proudly run establishments are gems and worth looking for.

1st time to Gloucester. Saw the barge cafe and thought yes but it was closed. Going to antiques centre so thought we'd try the cafe there but that was closed too. Am so glad they were or we'd never have gone to On Toast. The man in the antiques suggested it.

I went down to the antqiues centre by the docks and came out a peckish, so I walked down and saw this cafe selling toasties.

Only visited On Toast recently and have been back 3 times since! The toasties are packed full of whatever lovely filling you decide to have - my favourite is the west country!

On a visit to Gloucester docks thought we'd try On Toast for a light lunch . The proprietor takes toasted sandwiches to a new level. So many different fillings it was hard to choose . Both my wife and. Were blown away with our choices. For the chocoholics try the mars bar toasted sandwich for a desert . We did and loved it .its a bit out of the main area of Gloucester docks but ask any one they ll tell you where it is . Well worth a visit

We popped in 10 mins before opening and the owner was there who was very busy opening up. He was very happy to make us some drinks even though he was trying to open up.

Popped in at lunch time on a visit to Gloucester and was really impressed with the service, choice (of toastie) and quality of the food.

My work colleagues introduced me to On Toast a few years ago! It has really cornered the market for simple, tasty and filling lunches! Sometimes you don't want a greasy burger (which seems to be the only thing to eat at the quays!) a simple...or not so simple toasty is what you need! I was sceptical about the mars bar toasty my friends ordered for me, I am however a convert! I love the hoisin duck toasty as well! Very reasonably priced and always fresh!

So it's only a toastie, oh how wrong can you get. With such a huge choice of fillings its impossible to go wrong. My favourite is the Atylla, chorizo, red onion, cheese and black olives on Hobbs bread. Delicious. I also had a really good latte. Friendly welcome and fast service.

Great niche! On Toast serves a myriad selection of toasted sandwiches lamb tagine style to Mars Bar variety. Great location, great value, and great service from the Welsh chap/owner (sorry, don't know your name!). Serial repeat customers.

Visited On Toast today for lunch. It's never a disappointment visiting this place. Staff friendly and helpful and the place is bright and clean.

This is a snack bar on the canal basin. Cross the bridge from the historic docklands area. Quiet, but small. Clean, nice choice of snacks or ice creams. Enjoy the old boats being renovated. Definitely worth the effort to cross the bridge away from all the hustle and bustle.

Such a nice spot for something different! The Swedish is a total winner! Small businesses should be commended and supported & will only make the quays & gloucester shine! Will be going back again & again.

Always pop in the morning after a night out! Staff are very friendly and you can tell there's a strong food knowledge there! The toasters are well prepared with the ingredients well thought out! Quirky selection of crisps, makes it perfect to sit by the canal and have a great bit of food whilst I feel sorry for myself! Can't recommend enough!

We came across on toast whilst walking around the quays. Fancied something lite so opted for a toasted tea cake and a cup of tea. Food and drink arrived in a polystyrene tray and cup. So perhaps a little disappointed with presentation, but that's me being picky. Food and drink both hoy and tasty. Nice out look over the quays and a busy little place but good service.
