Olympic Fish Bar in South Staffordshire

Driving through with my partner, decided to give these guys a go as we were hungry. These are the best chips I've had in a while battered sausages were spot on. Went down a treat with the curry sauce. Definitely visit again when this way.

How this place is rated 4.3 stars is beyond me (i suspect locals supporting local business) I arrived at 9:35pm (they close at 10), i wanted a mixed meat and chips to be rudely and bluntly told that none of either availabl. The chips i did have had no doubt been sat in that hold for ages as they were soft and soggy. Joke a shop, must only exist because it had a captive market. Will never ever return.

I work at a hospital and made an order for staff and patients at 21:10pm and stated that we would pick up our order as they don't offer delivery (which is fine). After giving them the order at 21:15pm, they said it would be another 10-15 minutes. Our staff member left at 21:35 to pick up the order which is about 10 minutes away (we left a little later to organise that we had the right amount). As they pulled up- before the 10pm closing time, the door was closed and they shouted at the staff member "your 45 minutes late" and refused to open the door so that we could pay and have our order. Really unprofessional and will not be ordering from here again.

Reasonably priced, fresh items and helpful staff. Phone orders are accepted, which reduces the waiting time.

Was working nearby so thought I’ll treat myself.. I heard good things about the place so I thought I would give it a go.. VERY hearty portions for the price.. you’d normally find it being super Greasy and nasty when they give large portions but here.. quite the opposite.. Donor Meat & Chips with yogurt mint sauce.. Very nice and was stuffed! I would come again if working down that way..

I will Avoid this fish and chip shop, first and last visit, paid £8:30 for a large chips and mini fish, chips were very poor, (old chips) loads of bits instead of proper chips, dry fish. Would have refused food if I had looked more closely but on way home from work so didn’t really pay much notice till I got home, was bad enough paying £4:80p for large chips. I assume they think they can charge more being on a busy main road. Although expensive , if the food was nice I would not of left this review. Please don’t waste your money here.

Fish and chips on the way home, large fish and chips for me and the wife kebab meeting a tray for the lad the food was lovely fresh salad on the kebab not with a due to heat the fish was a nice large piece of cod and the chips are just come out the fryer I'm a red hot plenty of salt and vinegar just what you need to see you on the way home would recommend to anybody

I haven't used this shop for a while. I think there's different people running it now? Last time I came in and had large haddock and large chips the lady serving had to put the fish in one box and the chips in another. Tonight they easily fitted in the same box. If that was a large piece of haddock I can't imagine how tiny the small must be! I ordered large chips but by the time I'd thrown the bad ones away I was lucky if I had a small portion. I always used to stop here when I was passing. I definitely won't bother again. Absolute rubbish.

We arrived within 10 minutes of closing and they were happy to cook anything fresh that we needed.

Good food and good service. For fish and chips it's a solid choice in the Penkridge area.

I had some chips and they tasted like potatoes that had been been cooked in vegetable oil! Weird! I also had some vinegar on my chips and some salt, I found the salt at this place a bit salty for me,so I probably won't have it again, but the vinegar was nice.

Called in the other day and had fish chips and curry sauce , i must say how good they were . Was well pleased and will go back again

Food is fantastic. Portions are massive. Way too big. Really need to reduce the portion size. That was a shock. Could have fed the street 🍽🍽🍽

Called in on Bonfire Night, it was very busy, but the service was very good, food was done fresh and nice and hot, the atmosphere was great and considering how busy they were, and the staff quickly served everyone, well done.

I have visited here many times over the years and always had 5 star quality food. Perfectly cooked and ample portions, however, having called in for some food on the way home I found it almost inedible. The chicken meat was badly burnt and was basically £15 wasted. Both kebabs were the same, almost all the meat badly burnt and rock hard. However the staff were not those that I know, so I can only surmise a change of ownership because the guy and the girls that I know would never have allowed that food to go out. If it were not for the traffic conditions and distance I had travelled meaning too much time to return I would have taken them back for a refund. I do hope that it is not new ownership as this has always been worth the trip to get a really good meal. Otherwise I will be looking for another place hoping that it is half as good as Olympic has been until now.

Always friendly and nice food. We decided to try the new chip shop on 6.9.22 where oysters used to be,what a big mistake that was staff don't have a clue food was horrible, I'll be sticking to Olympic great staff and food all the time

Fish was definitely sat in the hot hold for too long along with too much other food for a lunch time. Chips were average. Too many chips with no potato and lukewarm at best

Pie was dry and flaky, beef and onion unrecognisable mess, no texture, no taste - reheated and good for the bin. What happened to the good old Pukka pies? This certainly wasn’t one

Loved the chips. Fish nice and white too. All cooked well. A bit pricey, but then it's the same everywhere now.

Went to this chippy for the first time. Had 2 kebabs which by the time we got home were stone cold (live 2 mins away) very pricey for the quality. Wasnt nice at all.

Fish was dry and powdery. Chips had more black eyes than Henry Cooper. Even the dog turned her nose up. The taste was poor, we wondered if the fat had not been changed in a while? Could not, actually, identify what the bad taste was. £10 for a chip supper. Very poor.

Doesn't take card under £10 according to a sign. I went next door and got a pizza and paid on card.

Bought a small chips for 2quid got the chips home more paper than chips. Hardly any chips in the wrapper. Long time till I go there again

Just moved to the area and have been here twice now, the food is very nice and big portions. Chicken kebab and fish and chips were the best I've had. Will definitely be a regular treat now.

Called in a few days ago for my lunch. The lady serving was particularly miserable and unfriendly. £5.40 for chips, a fish cake, and a small sausage was rather expensive I thought. And it’s CASH ONLY. I’m always very suspicious of any business who deals in only in cash (I’m sure HMRC take a similar view?) but who in this day and age doesn’t take cards? I’ll won’t be hungry enough to go back here again.

Fetched the Grandchild from school. Lunch sausage n chips x 2. I really believe the chips where reheated. Hard dry n stuck together, barely warm. Definitely not what you'd expect at 12.05pm. Sausage was ok. Won't be having my custom again

I just paid £2.20 for a portion of chips from this takeaway. I think they forgot to put the chips in the paper are potatoes that dear at the min if there's one potato thats all there is. Childs portion size. Im disgusted rip off.

Donner was overly dry. Scallops were dreadful, lady behind the counter was rude and blunt. Talk about being an Olympic fish bar this comes last in my race. Do not reccomend at all.

Greasy chips precooked warmed up burgers, parts of order missing 2 lots of chips found out when got home. Fish looked alright but batter was rubbery where it had been sitting for so long in the cabinet. Never going back

Just been to the Olympic Fish bar tonight and paid for a large fish and ended up with an overpriced fish finger ! Chips were v greasy , not upto the usual high standard , what's going on ?

I'm truck driver & when ever I'm heading home to Scotland I always pop into the Olympic Fish Bar at the end of the week for what I consider to be the best fish n chips in England, in fact it's so good my work mates go there too on their way home, need to set up truck parking outside lol 🤗

fancied a chippy tea so treated myself to a mixed chicken meat, chips and salad, got home and only had one sort of chicken meat so rang olympic up and got a very rude man saying come back and i will give u some tikka meat or leave it til next time.ok but i explained the rest of the meal would be cold he then got very arrogant when i tried to explain this to him.it ended up in a heated discussion and he put the phone down on me and i think he left it off the hook. find another chip shop don't use this one

Having been to Alton Towers and journeying back to the west midlands we were in search of somewhere to grab a quick tea. This fit the bill and maybe it was because we were starving but it tasted great, decent size portions for both myself and the kids and at about an average price.Probably have no reason to be in the area again but if we were, we'd certainly consider it.

Just bought a pie and chips from their tonight... All I can say is that they desperately need a new chip fryer/cook.. The chips where a disgrace, the worst I've ever had in the whole of the uk, had to bin them. thank god they couldn't ruin the Pukka pie! Never again and I advise others not to bother wasting their money... So disappointed I am angry..

reasonable chippie...had fish n chips not many chips in my carton fish was smallish but tasted good....got there a 9-45 on way back from stafford maybe the timing wasnt good on my part but was met with a friendly smile and quick service....open till 11-00pm which is unusuall but very welcome...

fancied a chippy tea so treated the family on the 23/3/19 around 6.30pm,, within a hour of finishing our meal at home 3 out of the 4 of us was, lets just say had stomach upset.. which has continued so far until 12.30 am on sunday the 24th, almost certain it was the chip shop food as we was all ok up until we ate from there !

A must call in if we are traveling from the motorway, with hopefully a parking space outside. Always great fish and chips . Battered Mars Bars as well !

Great service. The girls serving are great, fast, efficient and lovely. Food is amazing. I'd literally eat here daily if my waistline could take it.

Thursday evening, 6.30pm, very busy but the queue was being quickly managed. Menus on the wall are clear and not overwhelming as they can be in some places. Fair prices and good quality, I had the Doner Kebab @ £4.50, packed with meat and a good choice of sauces, not too greasy - delicious! Will definitely be going back again.

Was greeted with we have no chips! "what at this time?" " Yes we have no chips". Had pizza next, what a good move.
