Consistently the best chips ever. We are from Edinburgh and would never ever go to the area without paying a visit. We had a fantastic dinner as always and I managed to turn the boat and get the last chips before closing the following lunch. Great people,great food. We will always ,always be back So good xxxx

Was served by a very pleasant young lady fish and chips £8.80 got home put them on a plate chips and fish batter was just full of grease needs to change the cooking oil I think had to strip the batter of the fish to salvage some food wont be going ther anymore

Sorry to say the chips and fish batteries was terrible so greasy could not eat them had to take the battery off the fish so I could salvage some food I wont be going there anymore sadly paid £8.80 what a bloody waste of money

We had two bags of chips for £3.80. The chips were hot freshly fried with no black bits in. Superb! If I had to think of a negative the batter on the chips can hold a bit of grease. But still a lot better than some of the rubbish I’ve paid good money for at other shops. We’ll be returning again.

Very dissapointed with the quality of the fish and chips and also the customer service. Used to be a very friendly shop to go into and never had a bad meal. Not so much recently. Both chips and fish lacking flavour and staff attitude not very welcoming.

Food is great but have tried to be overcharged the last twice, once by £9! Then found out that my parents were overcharged too without noticing! It's only because my partner made a note due to being overcharged previously that he added it up while in there. Shame as foods great just watch what they're charging you.

We’ve been coming here for years despite some travelling. I bought fish and chips for us this week but we were both disappointed. The fish has shrunk and the chips were pale, soft and greasy. They always used to be the best. But, of course, prices have increased recently. I won’t be rushing back.

The best fish and chip shop in the area, the cod is amazing and always so white inside. Highly recommend

There is nowhere to get food in the evening at this location except the Fish and Chip shop. it was not obvious what time the establishment closed as the closing time was missing form list of times on the door and the paper notice in the window was pretty indistinguishable due to faded lettering. So it was disappointing on entering to be told rather curtly by a lad behind the counter “Fryer is off no more available other than pies” yes we were slightly after the ridiculously early finish of 2000 hrs but it was not at all clear too us what time they closed due to previous comments. The two girls behind the counter were fine although they were doling out a full order to another customer. Eventually we were offered what chips were left and a pie. It all seemed very grudging and the lad was clearly desperate to get away from the way he was rushing around. No issue with the food quality of what we eventually had but the customer service from the lad was very poor and as visitors from some distance left us with the feeling we wont go back there in any circumstances. I hate writing something negative about something that should be so very positive but is this the best the village can do!

Good old fashioned chip shop! It's always had a good reputation but as we need to pass three chip shops and two curry houses to get to Smith's we had never bought chips from them! However, we find our local chip shops are not the best so, we drove over and tried Smith's out. Lovely staff, very clean and a continuous succession of customers made us think this is a good sign. A little wait for our order to finish cooking and we headed back home.... To a very pleasant surprise! Yes, they make the best chips etc we have found in years... We will be back 😎

This is the best chippy I've been to for a long, long time. Every single time they've been great, and as I visit the area frequently, I always make sure I have a nice chippy tea from this place, those gnarly fat chips are absolutely fantastic 👌

Got there an hour after opening. Staff were really friendly and everything we wanted was ready to go. We were moored on our narrowboat 4 or 5 minutes away, but the food was lukewarm at best and by half-way through eating was barely tepid. The bottom of the battered fish was uncooked, soggy and mostly came off on the paper wrapping. On the plus side, the chips were not a single blob of mush (which seems to be a common curse at chippies these days); if only they’d been hotter. Won’t be rushing back I’m afraid.

If you want traditional fish and chips .proper chips here 5 stars as there the best around . You will not be dissapointed travel 12 miles to get my chips from here

We have been going to Mr Smiths for as long as I can remember. Fish is beautiful with thin crispy batter and chips are always fresh. No old oil taste. We have had fish and chips by the seaside but they never taste as good as Mr Smiths. Always recommend to friends.

1st class food and always enjoy the food , the chip portion could be a little more generous for my liking but I geuss its acceptable, after all they have to make a living and with the price of living the way it is I won't hold it against them .

Best fish and chips by far. Gutted they were closed due to unforseen circumstances and had to go elsewhere on Friday but just goes to show no where else comes even close

The stock of freshly cooked food isn't always available, either you must wait for it to be cooked, or it isn't in stock. The gentlemen who does the frying is not very friendly either. Otherwise, the food is good, if you don't mind an occasional wait, or an alternative choice of food if not in stock.

Disgusting attitude from the owner if you don't want to serve people shut your shop simple .People please stay clear foods mediocre and the service is terrible .

Just passing through on the canal. Let down by the nearest pubs. Had large fish and chips and they were honestly the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted. Freshly cooked crispy chips, beautiful cod. Friendly efficient staff. Well done Smiths!

My Dad came visited the other day and dropped some cash as he left without noticing. The owners kept it safe went above and beyond to find out who he was and ensure the money was kept safe. It was humanity at its best. The money was returned and my Dad enjoyed the food too. Excellent service all round. Many thanks for being so kind!

One of the best chippys I'm found in the wombourne area, fish was fresh and tasty , chips were good .. not too greasy but could do with being abit more crispy , still head and shoulders above others locally

Smiths chips are the best in the country, hands down. They’re uniquely creamy and crispy with a lovely lightly battered coating. Best dipped in a large gravy, which in itself is also up there with the greats; peppery and thick and perfect for dipping. Having moved away from Wombourne some years ago it’s always a treat to visit Mr Smiths. Best enjoyed on a bench by the canal- you won’t be disappointed. Tom Kerridge eat your heart out!

Not one for posting negative reviews, but feel that the experience we had in this shop warranted a review. Walked into an empty shop...young lad and (presumably) the owner behind the counter. Completely ignored by both....waited around 10 minutes, still without any form of acknowledgement before giving up and walking out. I note from previous reviews that this has been the experience of others, too. Awful experience and one we won't be repeating.

my first time here and talk about out in the wilds but no matter the Fish and ships were great and also catering for the smaller appetites with the Mini fish and chips which seemed very popular. great food.

Been using this place for years but travelled miles to get 3 mini fish specials but upon looking what we have got its nothing less than a joke. Very very small portions. The only thing this bloke doesn't do is wear a balaclava when he's serving you because he's actually robbing you. I won't be going here again. You can stick your fish and chips smiths chippy. Had a mini fish and chips this evening ....the fish was very tasty, batter crisp and the chips were soft in the middle and crispy on the outside .... beautiful .

Haven't been here for a good 6 months, decided to make the 8 mile round trip to get fish & chips last night, batter was awful, full of grease and not crispy but the actual cod was fine. Don't think we'll bother again.

Don’t know about the food but went in wearing my exempt badge was rudely shouted by a young lad asking me where was my mask , didn’t even have the time to bothered looking then told to stand outside . Very cold atmosphere and then told they don’t even serve kebabs !! ????

I've been going to this chippy for years and they have always been of a consistently high quality. People had recommended a 'better one'local to me so I tried it but gotta say not a patch on Mr Smiths. Its worth the drive if you have to for high quality fish and chips, pies etc

I’ve only just discovered Mr Smith’s. It’s not my nearest chippy but the crispy chips and light crispy batter make the journey worthwhile. Even wrapped and with a 15 minute journey home they’re still delicious.So many chippys, so few good ones. It’s great to have found this one.

Absolutely amazing. Stopped on canal for some much needed energy. Beautiful steamed fish in crunchy batter. Golden fluffy chips. Very very good. Queues show how popular it is.

Best Cod and chips for many miles.

There’s fish and chips and there’s Mr Smiths fish & chips. There is a massive difference. If there was a Michelin star for fish & chips, these guys would have it without a doubt. Thank you for a great British dish done well. It was 2006 since I was in here and it’s still the same owner!. Just enjoyed them. Yummy.

I've been using this chip shop on and off for several years, I normally use it at lunch time. The chips are nice and crispy and appear to have a light batter on them. A very consistent chip shop year round.

I moved to Himley a few years ago and on moving into my new home a note was left for me from the previous owner recommending Smith's as the best fish & chips in the area. I can say hand on heart this was the best recommendation we could of had. They have never let us down. Consistent, quality, quantity and the staff are helpful and freindly.....big high five to Katie, she is lovely. Highly recommend.

I popped in a few days ago as I was passing to get some lunch. There was a man working behind the counter (possibly the owner/manager?) preparing food who didn't even look up and acknowledge me as I walked in despite me being the only customer. A short time later a lady came out and served me. Fish and battered chips (they only do battered chips). They were horrible and so greasy that I threw most of them away. The portion was tiny was well. I won't bother again. To the owner/manager.. you need to work on your customer skills. A simple "hello" wouldn't have hurt would it?

We used to live in Kingswinford but then moved to Wales 2 years ago. We don't have any decent fish and chip shops around here. We returned to the area to visit friends and family yesterday and our choice of where to eat? Mr Smiths of course. Sometimes memories are wrong but not in the case of his chips and that whopper of a plaice was fabulous.

Been here a few times over the summer and chips have always been excellent. The staff are very friendly and gave my son some chips on a fork whilst we waited. The lady even teased my son about santa Claus. He has promised to be good now 😁

We live in kingswinford, so have a number of fish and chip shops to choose from, but have used Mr Smiths in Swindon ever since it opened, tried others but in our opinion they’re still the best

Called into Mr Smiths after recommendation from another boater on the Staffs and Worcester called for our evening meal and we were not in anyway disappointed. Excellent quality food great chips. Will use again next time we are in the area.

Great food, best quality battered chips around. Opening hours are a bit short.

Mr smiths have the best fried food in the area. We regularly have our take away tea from there. They have a very good selection of foods, vegetarian choices as well. The staff are very friendly, you get served almost immediately, never have to wait long. Parking is a bit restricted as you have to park on the road, but never for long.

Chips are great melt in you mouth and very morish...fish yummy. lots to choose from on the menu very clean staff polite...good value for money..

Visit the Chippy every other week for afternoon lunch and can't fault the food.. travel approx 10miles for the chips! Well worth the visit. Opens 11:45am till 2pm and then 4:45pm onwards. Will return again

Great chips...fish good value...super clean

This chip shop is "way above average". Their chips are superb. I travel 5 miles to get my fish and chips here, when there are at least five fish and chip shops within 3/4 of a mile from my home.

Consistently great chips and plenty of them. They always taste fresh and hot. Fish is good too. We drive past two similar establishments much closer to home in order to avoid disappointment and get the best and most YUMMY chips in our local area.

This has been our chippy of choice for many years. Good, freshly prepared food, consistently high standard

Never got to visit turned up at half one to be told we don't serve kebab in the afternoons!!!! So I'll have a fish special, to be told we've got two pies or a large sausage. Oh my what a choice, so I went elsewhere.

Usually have chips after a walk over the common, always found them very tasty. Portions are a good size

The fish always seems white and well cooked. A very good place for your takeaway. Usual products on sale and girls are always pleasant.

I popped in for dinner in the week and I just wanted a bag of chips when I got home there were about 15 chips in a little tray - although they were lovely, there simply was nowhere near enough! My other half had chicken and chips and he had a few more chips but not like a normal portion I have had elsewhere. Maybe they were trying to tell me something!!

We very rarely have fish & chips, but who can resist for an occasional treat? Hubbie & I have our favourite near Wolves, but decided to try Mr Smiths instead as it was on our trip home after a long drive. We were very pleasantly surprised. The haddock was huge, freshly cooked and flaked into pieces beautifully. Good batter on the fish (crispy and not too thick), and the chips were delicious. Next time we fancy a treat we may be back at Mr Smiths.
