Olley's in Southwark

Scandalous prices.. food was mediocre, nothing special. Had it delivered, food was warm, not hot.. I think the driver's take multiple orders out at the same time.

What is wrong with the folk writing reviews here? I ordered via their website which was simple Collection was easy and a treat. The haddock was excellent. Still piping hot when I got it home. The smaller appetite haddock was amazing value as it includes an enormous portion of chips and mushy peas Just wish I could manage the Platty Joobs Special as it sounds amazing

Last night (Friday night) after a long week at work I decided to treat myself to a fish and chips from Olley's as I knew they have a great reputation In South London. Another reason is that I have ordered on one occasion an it was delicious. However last night was a real disappointment. The dish arrived quickly yet it was warm going cold. In its sorry box was a cod, chips and a lonely lemon wedge. No mayo, tartare sauce and it was flavourless. All this for 23£ !!!! For this price one can order a lovely main course in a posh restaurant or even 2 courses with ambience and service. I am not sure whether this is to do to the chef that night but for sure there was no care in making that dish.

We wanted a 'good' fish and chips and did a little research. Some reviews good, others not so but we thought at £27 for x 2 cod and chips it cannot be bad otherwise company would be out of business. Liked the fact on the site it says 'masks must be worn'. They were wearing masks and so a plus. Fish is good but on the small side. Definitely needs to be bigger at this price. Far too many chips. One portion is good enough for 2 people. So all in all good but 20% on the expensive side but there are too many 'bad' shops around so does the job.

Want to feel ripped off? Eat here! We paid a lot of money for a meal for two, but the absolute kicker was this “taster starter”, which cost £8.50 for five of the tiniest pieces of fried fish you’ve ever seen. ONE piece of calamari! Imagine being served this in a restaurant. I raised the query and apparently this is the correct portion size. I think it’s totally unwarranted to charge that much. The fish was fine but nothing spectacular. I guess if you’re gluten free they seem to have a lot of options but be prepared to pay for it. Do yourself a favour and get a takeaway from Ken’s Fish Bar on Half Moon Lane. There’s a reason why it’s rated much more highly.

Fancied some F&C for tea so ordered a delivery from Olleys. The prices are on the steep side so we deliberated and carefully chose our order with the Cilla Black Experience being quite a good option to share. However, the downside was it doesn’t stay piping hot to Dulwich Village. They do have gluten-free options available.

living abroad and stayed at parents in mortlake... had an enormous fish and chips for 9 quid.... here it was smaller and 13 quid..... that is one hell of a lot. or am I missing something

Coeliac friendly, every single day! Great fish and chips, we eat from here often (take away). Would 100% reccomend.

Las patatas fritas son como patatas fritas que nunca antes había probado, las cebollas en escabeche tienen un sabor realmente único y la salsa tártara es mi favorita, ¿cómo se preparan? ? ?La ensalada es un plato sencillo pero en realidad es algo más.Creo que Olleys hace famoso a Dulwich :)

Was really looking forward to this at times like this when we are all isolating, but fish was definitely left over from lunchtime, chewey batter not crisp and chips rather cold! Certainly not what it should be at this price, or what it used to be like ! Come on Olly you can do better then this especially when you’ve got the market to yourself. Otherwise we will all stick to M&S F&C’s !

Chips are ok. Fish is waaaaaay to small for price. And mushy peas stick of eggs... so unable to eat them. Waste of money tbh

Okay, this restaurant is not exactly in the center of the city, but it is definitely worth seeing, believe me! It is located in Herne Hill, which is and 11 minute train ride from Victoria station. This is a highly rated seafood restaurant. The fish and chips are 15 pounds, so it's a little expensive compared to the usual prices, but the portions are generous and the fish is fresh. They have won awards for their service and food for the past 20 years in England.

Fish was lovely and fresh Batter was nice too. Staff were good and welcoming. Chips were disappointing. I've have much better chips in a number of local chippers.

Warm friendly restaurant specialising in fish & chips. Olley is the charming owner and ensures that his staff are as well - our waiters were excellent. Great efforts were made to satisfy the wants of the vegan in our party. Fun experience which will become a regular haunt from now on.

We love Olley's Fish & Chips. We've eaten there a few times in the restaurant and also hired them to do a few private networking and training events, for my serviced offices. Harry, the owner, is a fantastic attentive host, walking around looking after everyone. Harry is passionate about what he does and his business wins awards because of it :-) The fish and chips are superb quality, not at all oily and are lovely and tasty. They have a nice range of mushy peas and sauces. They cater for everyone! You can have your fish grilled without any batter, if you are trying to lose weight. They also have a big range of seafood and pies. Definitely recommend to anyone. We have a 30 min drive to get there, but I would not eat fish and chips anywhere else! I found this fish paradise just for casuality while I was walking with a friend around Herne Hill area. Despite the place was still closed we meet a lovely chef\waitress called Denisa that welcome us and serve in 10 mins one of the best fish and chips and wholetail scampi ate in town.. I really recommend this place. Moreover the courtesy of the staff it has a nice environment and it has full furbished area bar as well.. I defintely give them 5 stars

Went here with high hopes based on ratings. The fish was very disappointing. It was dry and little taste. The service, however, was very good.

A group of 10 of us visited the restaurant at 5pm on Saturday. The food was very good - especially the chips - and the staff were great.

Been coming here for years. Great place to have fish and chips. The calamari and the sharing platters are great too. The gluten free options are great choice. It is more expensive then your standard chippy but this isn't a standard chippy and with the flavours and the quality of seafood this place uses you can tell why it's won awards.keep up the good work

We journeyed by tube train and taxi/bus to get to Ollies from Mayfair. It was worth every minute of travel time and cost. My husband and daughter loved their regular fish and chips. I was blown away by the gluten free fish and chips. It had a light flaky coating, cooked perfectly with the freshest mild white fish in the center. The mushy peas were the best I have ever eaten. With a separate gluten free kitchen and many options, anyone with a gluten free member of their family or group is very safe. They even have gluten free beers. I highly recommend!!!

Visited here apropos of nothing. The restaurant decor is very strange - a sort of crumbling Spanish taverna interior decked out with union jack bunting. The fish is, as many others have noted, wildly overpriced. Fish, chips and mushy peas will cost you about £20, with each item listed on the menu separately. Also on the menu at £7.50 is a small combo of fish chips and mushy peas - which when it arrived was absolutely identical in size to the meal 3x the cost. This theme continues elsewhere on the menu - for pudding "adding" custard will cost you £2, if you fancy some baked beans it will be £3.50 and so on and infinitum.

During our week touring London, we ate fish and chips at many pubs. Olley's was by far the best quality fish & chips. The haddock was excellent. Chips cooked perfectly. Service quick and friendly. Loved this place !

We use Olly’s on a regular basis and have never been let down, the fish is always first class and cooked to perfection, the chips are great but usually too many for me. The atmosphere and service is good. The costs are high, as we also buy from a local take-away for a fraction of the cost.

A friend took us here after raving about it. We nearly had a heart attack when we saw the menu prices. The £7.50 small fish and chips with mushy peas was great. Decent portion size and very tasty. The waitress was lovely and friendly. Would recommend but they need to be realistic with their prices.

I really enjoy good fish and chips when I’m visiting London and I read that this restaurant received the only London restaurant in the top ten best fish and chips in the country. I naturally thought booking would be essential as we were going on a Saturday night and it was easily done on line. There were plenty of empty tables so that doesn’t bode well. I thought that the fish would naturally come with chips but they are an extra cost. I ordered cod and it was beautifully cooked. My companions also found their fish cooked well. The chip portion is enough for two people to share and they were also cooked well but not fantastic. The service was attentive but not brilliant. The overall cost was quite high due to the “extras ordered”. Not sure I will go again when next in town.

I've just had the most appalling service ever from Olleys fish experience. I ordered a meal online for a friend and I and when it arrived we received only half of it. When calling the restaurant to arrange delivery of the rest of that food I was told that wasn't an option and I would have to have a refund for the missing items. I was also informed that it's not their problem and to deal with the delivery company at which point the phone was put down. I've ordered frequently from this place and had no problems in the past, but never again now I'm aware of the low regard in which they hold their customers. Appalling

I love this place. Fish is always so delicious. It’s pretty pricy but worth it if you want quality. I actually prefer the gluten free batter it’s lighter and crispy and the best tasting. The chips are also great and the staff really friendly

We became aware of this place from friends and decided to visit for lunch.

Thursday 24 January was so cold decided to go for fish and chips lunch at olleys, Herne Hill with my husband. Sat down and felt very cold. Asked the lady if we could move as it was very cold inside.We moved to another table still felt very cold. Ordered cod and chips and two cans of sprite. Fish was ok but chips were dry, coleslaw was bit runny. We ate our lunch literally shivering. Did not enjoy the experience at all. To make things worse when the bill came we were charged £5 (five pounds ) for two cans of sprite.

This is my local Fish & Chip shop. Recently ordered Small Appetite - Haddock- a small portion of haddock, chips, and mushy peas. a good portion if one doesn't feel for a large portion. Very tasty and highly recommended.

In spite of what I have read from other contributors (they may not be aware of the current market prices of Fish And Chips in London) I still think that it is still quite a good value. The quality of both the fish and the potatoes is excellent...

You can sit in or take away and today it was the latter. It was busy but Tefel was behind the counter the girls were deeper in the kitchen doing their thang and Jacob was dealing with the orders... Harry was chatting outside and popped in and out to help!! Honestly their teamwork is amazing! Jacob was shouting orders and Tefel was like yeah yeah next next and then comes round the front to help to get the orders out faster ... Harry workin on getting the optimal curry sauce in ( mainly for the northerners but obvs is t happy until he gets the best one... so we are still waiting for that.... but hey guys the savoys are the best, the cod is boom and the chips... well I’m home and they’ve already been demolished. You guys ROCK!!!!!!!! Haha!

Pretty much the same story as every other recent review; the fish and chips are nice enough, staff friendly but not exactly silver service, the decor and layout hasn't been touched since sometime in the 1980's - but yet the prices are right at the top end of the scale ...

Sin embargo, si no estás en realidad sin gluten, diría que puedes conseguir delicioso pescado y patatas fritas en otro sitio a un precio más asequible.

Good points - top quality fish and perfect chips; separate gluten free menu; nice friendly staff. Not so good points: the prices; cramped seating in the dining area. I would definitely visit Olley's again if ever I was in the area.

We just keep coming and their fish just keeps delivering on taste and presentation. The layout and atmosphere adds to the experience the staff are delightful. We always order kids chips to keep the amount down so we have room for a sweet, my favourite sticky toffee pudding with custard.Unbeleivably we parked right outside last evening, that was a bonus.

The 4 of us recently had a sit down meal...seeing that the place was completely empty at 8pm on a Thursday night spoke volumes...extremely overpriced for fairly average tasting fish & chips & small portions to boot (£1 for a small pickled onion anyone!?) the cod was ok,I've had worse,batter was crispy but a bit greasy to be honest...nothing spectacular to warrant such a hefty price tag and the chips were small in portion & fairly average.given the fact that the testimonials that are proudly displayed around the take away area are quite dated & harp on about the 'Olleys experience'! It's sadly not an experience I wish to experience again.As other reviewers have correctly pointed out there are far better (and much cheaper) fish & chips to be had less than 10 minutes walk away.

I don't know why it's taken me 8 years to write a review of Olley's, which has been my regular chippy since I moved to South London. Fantastic fish and chips, not the biggest portions, or the cheapest, but really fresh fish and some of the best chips I've ever had (better in my opinion than The Magpie in Whitby, which has won many awards). The 'small appetite' portion is great value for money and fills you up, especially after the prawn cocktail (which comes in a retro 70's martini glass), which I love. I sometimes go for the mussels and chips, again great value (ask for extra chilli, to give it a good kick). Pud is the knickerbocker glory sundae or my partner always has the sticky toffee pudding. Both epic.

Usually we get a take out from this place but today we dined I the restaurant. It’s the second time...

Muy buen pescado y patatas fritas. Dos cosas que me decepcionaron; sigue siendo demasiado caro - supongo que es Londres y decir desmesura imperdonable- que no salsa de curry. Solucionar!

Quality has gone downhill majorly, I think this place has had its day. Save your money and go somewhere else.

Have been here many times and have, quite simply, never had fish and chips like it.

10 days ago we were in London in holiday, in family with our 3 children. We went on Tuesday because we are coeliacs. A very grest experience, very good the gluten free fish and chips, and also 5 kinds of beer to choose! A nice place, friendly and helpful staff and honest prices!

Extensive array of steamed or fried cuisine side orders & gluten free options to choose from. Found the fish very succulent and tasty and full filling and cooked to perfection. . HIGHLY recommendable establishment and worth a visit.

Nothing else to say really - this place is a rip off and I' amazed people still go and pay these prices. There's a very good Fish & Chip shop within half a mile of this place and is worth seeking out - Kens.

Having eaten at Olley's fish restaurant in the past we were excited to return to what was dubbed 'London's best fish restaurant' but we were sadly very disappointed (we ordered from the takeaway section not the restaurant). The service was helpful but the food was over priced and virtually inedible. The chips tasted of nothing much, even after salting them they were hard to get down. The fish was overcooked with no real flavour and it was encased in a soggy/fatty batter. In the car going home, instead of the smell of fresh fish in batter, all we could smell was the cooking oil it had been bathed in. At £15 for every portion of fish and chips (£11 for the cod and £3 for the chips) it is twice the price of most other takeaways, that said we would have been happy to pay the price if the food was worthy, but this was sadly not the case.

Olleys is a gem of a fish restaurant in Herne Hill-friendly and welcoming and serving delicious food. They serve amazing gluten free fish and chips on Mon and Tues in the take away and restaurant (light, crispy batter) -a gift for those who had to previously avoid this "institution" of a dish. And added to that, the friendly owner and manager is often on hand cooking and making sure you have both a good meal and evening- adding to the hospitable atmosphere. Hats off to you Harry!

I went to this restaurant with my family as it looked lovely from the outside, we liked the decor and it seemed good. This is the most expensive Fish and Chips I have ever paid for, even in Leicester Square the fish and chips were half the price and that was from a luxurious hotel. The fish alone (cod) was just under £13, then the chips were at a cost of £3 per portion (good portion) and mushy peas were also at an extra cost of £2.50 I think and they tasted weird and dry. The fish itself was nothing special , bland and dry. The best bit from our meal was the organic lemonade we ordered although it was not fresh but from a bottle. Overall, I was very surprised and disappointed as the food didn't live up to the look and feel of the restaurant. The waitress was nice but she asked three times to repeat my order, like she didn't understand which was a bit annoying. Definitely not coming back here unfortunately.

Been here a few times but this last time will be the last. I couldn't believe the prices - a simply take out cod and chips comes to £14. Quality is good but no better than other decent chippys. Portion size is small - a handful of chips (literally you can count the number of chips) and small piece of fish.My advice is go elsewhere (Herne Hill or Half Moon Lane) - you will save yourself £££ and get decent portions.

I have eaten a lot of Fish Suppers in my time. A lot. Being a Scot born of a broken home, Fish and Chips has been a mainstay in my life for many, many years, in varying frequencies. I’ve eaten Fish Chips in cities, in towns and seaside villages. On piers, on boardwalks in cars and on busses (sorry fellow commuters!), out of newspaper, plastic trays and on fine china. Trust me. I’m more than qualified on this subject. By far and away the very best Fish and Chips I have been lucky enough to consume are the tremendous fare from Herne Hill’s finest:- Olley’s. They simply cannot be beat and I have tried. Oh yes. How I have tried.They use the finest ingredients from a vast array of fish choices, to the freshly fried chips and perfectly pickled pickle onions. All cooked to perfection. Bundled up by brilliant, genuinely caring and always friendly staff. The owner is an absolute player and makes everyone feel welcome. The offer grilled fish and guetin free options too. In real man-size portions.Beware there is always a queue. Be very beware I’m usually in it. So get there quick or you’ll, ahem I’ll, have had your chips.PSCan you manage the Cilla Black Experience? I can. And often do!

This place is just a complete rip off. Do yourself a big favour and find another. There are plenty of far better and cheaper fish and chip shops in the area.

The food is good quality, but since the beginning of the year the price for cod and chips has increased arbitrarily. At the beginning of the year we were budgeting for around £22 for two – already very high for a take-away staple. On Saturday last, the bill came to nearly £28. This now represents among the poorest value in the area. If you have a chip shop nearer, I'd go to that.

We chose a fish supper here as a friend was visiting and we wanted a night off cooking. This fish bar gained an enviable reputation but we'd not been for a while. Not sure if different people run it now but we were somewhat unimpressed. Fish was so-so, chips appeared cooked from frozen rather than hand-done as in the past. Sad. We'll not be coming back.

Just had dinner in Olleys and it was absolutely fantastic! I had the lemon sole, it was lightly battered, fresh and beautifully cooked to perfection, even the broccoli was perfectly steamed and the portion sizes... yowza!!! We left so stuffed we had to take our desserts home in a little baggie!

If you are looking for a place to eat good fish with a reasonable price you should avoid this place and try other fish bars in the area. I ve been to take away section and ordered 5 fish and chips.They told me chips is extra £3 then i asked for salad its extra £3, asked for tartare sauce, its extra. All i got was 5 tiny cods with 1 slice of parsley like a joke and three tiny chips cost me £55. Also the fish wasnt that special at all. In the other fish bars you get this size of fish with the kids meal. There is Kennedys fish bar not very far from olleys you will get proper size and quality fish with a reasonable price. I share this experience with lots of people i know and they all experienced the same thing with olleys and all stop going there. Do not waste your time and money on a unfair service. Never going back there again

I have frequently eaten fish and chips in Yorkshire and Northumberland. And have long been of the opinion that southerners can't do it right, especially in the 'smoke'. They don't even know what beef dripping IS, let alone mushy peas. However, and to my intense pleasure, I have discovered an exception withing 3km of the place I now call 'home'. OK, it's not cheap. But this is London, nothing is. However, the quality is almost up there with the places I love 'oop north'. I can only highly recommend this establishment to those in search of something other than the usual soggy gloop that passes for f&c in Lundun. Try the lemon sole in batter... or the hake... dreamy. And yes, mushy peas are available. Big thumbs up from a fish and chips connoisseur.

I have often passed this placed and I was really disappointed with a few things. A) they had run out of plaice and didn't say B) instead they switched in 'extra scampi' C) there were actually 5 bits of fish missing in total in which they added 1 extra scampi to replace this. To get this sorted I had to painfully talk through the situation with both the waitress and the chef. Yes they apologised and I think I got 2 complimentary prawns but this was done with no real regard, effort to be friendly and in the end I didn't get what I'd ordered and it was colder due to the mishap. A bad experience, poor value and I won't be returning. A family next to us were overhead saying the meal was not like lastnight, their sauce was forgotten and they were questioned by the chef who had attitude! So yeah... shame.

After trying the food we have booked our son's 6th birthday party lunch here. Everybody commented on how good the fish and chips were. Would definitely recommend. Best fish&chips place in South London!

Over £22 for two mingy portions of take away fish (and I understand the two portions of cod alone were 18!), one very small portion of chips, and two pea fritters - what a rip off! Whilst this has always been very expensive, at least the quality has been there previously as witnessed by this winning the best fish & chip restaurant in London and the South East, or something similar in the past. It also appeared on Cilla Black's surprise, surprise at one time. I think they are relying on their laurels which have now gone limp! The food was not at all good, the portion for the cost was miniscule, was not nice and crispy and was a terrible disappointment - we will not be back!

The food was tasty and the service very friendly. Having chips and peas pushes the prices up, so chose carefully, the specials were better value.

Nearly £12.00 for a Small bit of fish and chips, Not even on a Plate as it was take away. With all the other eating establishments near this chip shop I would have thought that there would be competition for customers. It is called Fish Experience well it was and one I will never take again.

Excellent fish and chips. However, a tiny bit of fish albeit lovely; chips were also good. But this is the shocker £11.90 to take away. Never again; absolutely shocking!

If one is after fine dining - suggest you look elsewhere. However if you are looking for the best example of an honest and relaxing restaurant that caters for the whole family, then you will never find any better. Our group's age group ranged from my one year old daughter to my 90 year old father ...... and everyone was amazingly well catered for. No request was too much and food was freshly cooked to order. Batter was light and fluffy and the chips sublime. We will always be regulars at this fine fish and chip shop. Long live Olley's!

Ate in in Olley's for the first time in a while to try their completely Gluten Free menu which includes two lagers and 4 Ales. Perfect. Great Batter, fish well cooked as always. Only complaint was the laughably sized piece of cod for £11.45 without chips (extra £3.00). However this was dealt with swiftly by the manager who brought another piece of fish as soon as it could be cooked. Brilliant - exactly what you want when you feel a bit short changed. Love Olleys

Went with my husband to Olleys. Both of us have not big appetites so had the small meal which was sufficient for us. The fish, chips and mushy peas were very good and hot. We ordered and were served quickly by pleasant and efficient staff

I recommend this place to anyone who has to eat gluten free, not having to give up a fundamental experience to do in London! Great for children too!

Driving through Herne Hill with a group of hungry friends, I was drawn to Olley's from the outside. A very rustic and nautical themed restaurant, I liked it and thought we'd go in, especially seeing as we all love fish and chips!What can I say, we were impressed from the start. Greeted and served by super friendly staff. The chips were perfect chip shop chips and the mushy peas were of perfect consistency - no sludge here!The cod was cooked fresh to order and was beautifully light. Portions are good, prices are good, atmosphere is great. Highly recommended!

Had a sit down meal with family. Very, very expensive for what it was, a basic fish and chip dinner. The food was OK but nothing special. I have eaten here before (although it was a number of years ago)without complaint so perhaps olley's has had it's day.

I've been here a few times over the past 10 years. Olley used to be absolutely fantastic, alas I must say that the overall quality has been going downhill.The selection of fish available in the menu is now less than half of what it used to be. Also the new waitresses really need some training. They're nice but don't seem to be making much of an effort to deliver a quality service to the customers.The UK never had a reputation for good customer service, let's be honest. Isn't it about time to change for the better?

Siamo stati con degli amici a olley's fish experience durante il soggiorno a londra perchè stavamo cercando un posto che facesse fish&chips senza glutine. È un po' fuori dal centro ma davanti al nostro ostello c'era l'autobus che ci portava diretti e in 15 min eravamo là. Il pesce e il servizio buono. I prezzi non eccessivi. L'unica nota negativa è che il senza glutine lo fanno solo il lunedí e il martedí e le chips sono extra non vengono insieme al pesce.

This is an excellent fish and chip restaurant/take-away. Have never had a bad meal here and I particularly love the squid they serve here. It's not quite near enough to be considered our 'local' but it's so good I'll happily brave the London traffic for a treat. Excellent staff too.

Stayed in Herne Hill for a weekend. We were looking for somewhere to eat after a full day out. Having read the reviews we decided to go here for fish and chips. Nice setting, decent enough service but thr fish and chips were nothing special. I've certainly been to a lot better both restaurants and take away. Fairly pricey too for what we actually got. There are far better places to go for better value. Nice enough experience but I wouldn't revisit if in the area.

I visited Olleys with a group of 18 friends as part of my sisters hen do, as she loves fish and chips! The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming. The fish and chips tasted amazing. Everyone if the party was extremely happy. The fish tasted fresh, the portion was genorous and the chips were perfect! We had a lovely friendly lady serving us, who just made the whole experience lovely. She obviously works very hard, but couldn't do enough to meet our needs. So all in all please give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

I regularly go to Ollys for lunch as I work around the corner. Every time the food is amazing! The appetizers are unbelievable for the price- such a large portion, the fish cake, calamari, mussels and chips are amazing and I would highly recommend. Literally everything I have tried has been great, I cant rate this place any higher and have recommended to so many friends. I recently tried the fruit mousse desert which was delicious. Staff are so lovely too!Perfect place to get a takeaway and sit in Brockwell park.

The menu is pretty basic but don't let this put you off, the fish fresh is cooked to perfection with huge portions you can taste the quality. The service was quietly quick and efficient,however, it's bland it's missing a trick here add some flavour !!the drinks menu is very basic and juice costs more than pop ! I would perhaps visit again for takeaway No pictures as nothing special

I came here yesterday and had the gluten free fish and chips which they do on Mondays and Tuesdays and thought it was fab. The service was a little unhappy and could have come with a smile but other than that the food was fab and the venue was great. The batter was great and crispy - first time I had ever had GF. Very generous portions and delicious. Would highly recommend.

We arrived early and I was dying for the fish and chips, the very bubbly owner sat us down and kept us entertained until the rest of the staff arrived. I ordered prawn cocktail which was fresh and delish. The calamari for my partner were crispy and melt in the mouth. For mains we had hake. I had a lovely side of creamy mash and beautifully cooked broccoli. I did not enjoy my hake which I had for the first time and now realise I would have probably preferred cod or haddock as I like my fish flakey rather than firm but that's not really the fault of the restaurant. The owner noticed and offered to cook me another one or another fish of my choice. Now, if you think how many restaurants you go to where you leave food untouched and nobody's interested why, it was incredibly refreshing. I declined his kind offer as I was full already.As additional bonus, could see that waiting staff were all local kids which the owner treated with patience and kindness (training them up on the job) and that was brilliant to see.

i been here with my gluten allergic friend few monday ago, we had 3 starter to share and the fish and chips as main course, very good portion, and the food gluten free in cooked in the perfect way, was like to eat the normal one. Very nice as well the Chef that something came outside the kitchen to be sure that all is going in the correct way. come back for sure

Harry is such a lovey man his fish and chips are "not a rip off" like what some one just wrote it is worth the money. Lively fresh fish unlike hernhill fish and chip shop who apparently have a special deal every wed for £5 fish and chips. Fish nasty and rubbery and chips stale now!!! thats a rip off

I have heard such good reports about this place. They do takeaway and eat in. I must say while you are waiting the lady assistant give you a portion of chips to eat while you wait for your meal.The fish is cooked fresh and I must say the potatoes are wonderful and the fish is fresh and so tasty.I will go back again. It is slightly expensive but it is well worth it the portions are large!!!

I've been twice to this take away service seduced by the Gluten Free Monday's and Tuesday's . The food is good but only if you are prepared for the disorganisation and shouting from chef whilst waiting. The first time we rang ahead and ordered and were told order would be 15 mins. We arrived then had to wait over half an hour as "we are short-staffed". Ringing ahead did not mean our order was ready. The man behind the counter was rude and aggressive when I suggested that he might have told us about this delay on the phone. I was prepared to give them the benefit and returned. However the second time whilst waiting ( I didn't bother to phone ) I had to listen to the chef shouting at a new member of staff who was "not doing the chips right". He was then curt to his very charming till lady who asked repeatedly is she could serve. It seems to me that the outside frying-chef was unable to cope with combined restaurant and take away orders. The whole experience was very unpleasant to witness. It's a shame, their food is good.

We arrived a the restaurant around half an hour after the opening time and received a very warm welcome. The staff are always very kind and are quick to take your order. The food is fast to arrive and are worth the price. Lovely place to have supper and we will be heading there again very soon!
