Masters Super Fish in Southwark

Conveniently located next to our Travelodge stay during our week trip. We read the raving reviews so we had to come try the fish and chips. It's not a fancy looking place but honestly, places that have this humble and authentic look will sometimes serve the BEST food. Masters Superfish did not disappoint. Lovely service, quick food, very tasty. I'd definitely return and recommend to whoever is looking for a proper fish and chippy.

I wanted to go where the Locals go for Fish and Chips. My cabdriver suggested Masters Superfish. They did not disappoint. I had the Cod and chips with a side of mushy peas.

Cycled past and fancied it so I tried it out. Not only was it the most expensive fish n chips Ive ever had at £17, but also the worst. Decor is full of typical london postcard stuff like red phone boxes or post boxes. Looks like a tourist might find it authentic but its NOT a good local chippy

I bought a very nice, large portion of chips with fishcakes to go from here today, the service was quick and efficient plus the girl serving ran after me to return my phone which I had left behind by accident! For this I am also very grateful, many thanks!

So disappointed. The waiter failed to place the order and I had to wait for >45 min. After they found out that the order was not through, no apologies or any services and just started cooking. They even made me wait again for paying. Fish was Ok, but definitely not worth the long wait. Very unpleasant dinner.

I discovered this place when I lived in London a few years ago and have been coming back here every time I visit the city ever since: it's rustic, down-to-earth and usually full of locals. If you're not looking for a 'fancy place', but just a really good fish and chips place, then this is the right place for you.

The food at MASTERS SUPERFISH was undeniably delicious, but the experience was somewhat marred by the noisy atmosphere and the rather steep price tag. The compulsory 20£ tip seemed excessive, especially considering the service wasn't exceptional. It was disappointing to find out about the tip only after paying, as it made it difficult to question the charge. While the food was excellent, I'm not sure if I would return due to these factors.

What an amazing experience for fish 'n chips!!! Honestly, I found a YouTube video in which people highly recommended this little restaurant near tube station Lambeth North just opposite the big NHS building on 191 Waterloo Road. And what should I say? These people were right! The fish was DIVINE - super crispy on the outside, but soft and juicy on the inside. Chips and tartare sauce were very good too! Hey everyone, trust me, this is the best place for fish 'n chips in London! We also appreciated the complimentary shrimps, bread and pickles and liked the beer London‘s Pride. The prices were very reasonable - very good value and quantity for the money. Thumbs up 👍

app didn't give me an option of pies, I wanted a chicken and mushroom, and I received a steak and kidney. I did not enjoy the steak and kidney pie. why did the app not give me a choice of pies?

Wanted to get some fish and chips while in London after giggling about it with my friend about what food I would try while here. Next to the hotel was a closed fish and chips resteraunt that opened in the later afternoon into the evening. Based on outside appearance it seemed like the sort of place that would surprise my taste buds so I gave it a shot. The inside was crowded and the menu surprising large for only really being a place that did one thing and made it known. Not sure of the different fishes I just asked for the waitress to pick the best one and dug in. A big fish flaky and crumbly was great. The chips where normal. Came with big servings of tartar and ketchup in there own dishes. Also two pieces of bread and two raw shrimp to begin. I'm not sure what I expected but I don't think I can say it's the best fish and chips around. Great but more so above average. Being a simple meal in nature perhaps that's what it's to be. The inside didn't have tvs or much in terms of decor or things to look at while Waiting Seems catering to tourists even having a big map inviting customers to pin where they are visiting from. I'm not disappointed in the slightest but I wasn't blown away All in all of your visiting and don't want to go out the area for a bite of fish and chips pay it a visit.

This place was recommended for fish and chips in the area we we staying in so we came to check it out! It was on Waterloo Road, walking distance from the train station. It's a small chippy but the portions were huge! First we were served some pickles and cold shrimp and bread which came with the meal. We had the haddock and cod and like I said, the pieces were big. The batter was light and not overly greasy- the fish was tender. The chips were also big and hot. So much food! We could've easily shared one plate. The staff there were very nice and friendly too. We also had cider and an ale (London Pride) to go along with the meal. Prices were very reasonable as well and we left very full and satisfied!

This is a local no frills chippie a short walk from Waterloo station right across from the London National ambulance service NHS. When i walked in a rainy Friday evening, the dining room was brightly lit in fluorescent white light and filled with locals, ambulance crew and black cab drivers. It was canteen like and cheerful. We got a corner table and the menu is handwritten in chalk hanging over the payment counter. ‘No more table menus’ after Covid we are told and for good reason. The fish is freshly brought in from the famous Billingsgate wholesale market and comes either grilled or fried in a light batter. I was recommended the Masters special of the day which was a generous portion of Cod on a bed of golden chips. Like establishments from my student days many decades ago, they serve complimentary appetisers of fresh cut baguette, pickles and onion as well as oh so delicious home made tartar sauce and ketchup. The fish was fresh, moist and just greasy enough to tick all the boxes. The beverage menu was extensive and you can wash this down with a pint of lager or a variety of soft drinks and even hot tea! The service was friendly and brisk. And the food is Halal certified! Thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this local chip shop and prices were very reasonable for central london for its quality. Highly recommended if you are ever in the area and need your fill of local British fare at reasonable prices !

Highly recommend the masters special (basically a large fish!). It’s cooked fresh and was beautiful and crispy. The only thing that could have been better was that they were stingy with the chips as I think they were waiting for another batch to be cooked. Overall, would definitely go back.

Booked by phone in the afternoon for the same evening, very kind and helpful staff. Abundant and very good dishes, good value for money. Characteristic place with menu on the blackboards and takeaway option. Some furnishings and false ceilings could use a refresh. Spouse and I stopped in here for a traditional fish and chips meal. It’s very close to the Hampton Inn Waterloo. We order one fried cod dinner along with a beer for me. Received an appetizer of boiled shrimp, pickles and bread. Fish was served piping hot and filed the plate. We split and were barely able to finish everything. Good service, good food, Expectations met!

We were welcomed in and helped to get my wife's wheelchair settled at a table. They had explained, before we entered, that their toilet was not wheelchair accessible. That isn't ideal but essential to know. We both had fish and chips with a mushy peas to share. I had cod while my wife had haddock. Both were delicious, flavoursome fish and crispy batter. These had been preceded by shrimps, pickled onion, gherkin and bread and butter. The mains came with ketchup and tartar sauce. The service was friendly, quick and efficient. We will return but probably book a table to be sure to get in.

The place was recommended as a local place. We went as a family of 2+2. The appetizer includes bread with butter and shrimps. The Fish&Chips main dish is large and tasty. Atmospheric place. The only drawback is the fact that you have to change your clothes after leaving the place because you are saturated with the smell of frying. Overall, I recommend the place :)

Down to earth fish and chips place. Different fish to choose from. Chips and other items such as mushy peas can be ordered on the side. No draft beers but decent bottle selection. Some bits and bobs hit the table before the mains. A prawn, some pickles and an onion, some bread, and huge containers of ketchup and tartar sauce. The fish and chips portion is big, good value for money. The fish is the winner on the table. Crisp and flaky. Chips are fine. Had the peas which were good. Tartar was mostly mayo. Overall a good meal, good value for money and the fish is the best thing, as it should be. Service was excellent from start to finish!

The portion is large and the employees are nice. But the food is not salted.. The sauce is hardly salted either..! I've never had to add so much salt before. Just a little more salt, the food would have been much tastier. Unfortunately, the fries weren't crispy at all

I think this neighborhood restaurant should be more popular. The prices are very good in relation to the size of the portions. The fish is fresh, and the fries are also very good. I chose special masters and received a huge portion of cod with potatoes. I also ordered a coleslaw salad, but it had a bit too much sauce. I received shrimps, butter, bread and sauces from the house. The staff is also very friendly and kind.

I know this place through google map search, fish and chips undeniable is superb, with that big portion and price, and furthermore is tasty, the crispy batter even after 15 minutes still remain same, but one setbacks is the ventilation, the smell of deep fried oil, anyway i just go for the food, highly recommend if you are into fish and chips in london

My cod this evening smelt of ammonia. I could barely eat it but was embarrassed because I invited my friends there. If you Google this (fish smells of ammonia), it indicates that it's not fresh, and the texture also was not that of fresh cod, it was rather soft. I will never go back to this restaurant - if they only do fish and cannot give me fresh fish, there's no excuse

The quantity is definitely large. Chips eventually gave up... The taste is not that there is no taste, it is that there is no taste... Ultimately, it is a blank slate, so the taste of the fried food and the taste of the sauce seem to be important.

Instead of being in a plastic carrier bag, now in a paper one, so much better the steam can escape and the batter stays nice and crisp whereas in the plastic bag steam could not escape and made batter soggy, well done.
