Don’t go there for Sunday lunch. Three friends went together. Service was slow, lamb and pork were tough, Yorkshire puddings pathetic, roast potatoes not roasted but soggy and very salty. Tiramisu had stale taste. All in all not to be repeated.

Olivers delivered again, we go every few weeks with my 89-year old mum and she loves the place. The staff remember her each time and what she likes which is nice. Wine was really good, I had carpaccio which is new on the menu, very nice, my mum had the French onion soup which she loved, and my wife had the smoked salmon cheesecake which she says was lovely. Mains - roast lamb was great, and chicken with Parmesan was a winner. Not the place to go for cheap and nasty wine, or "two steaks for a tenner" but it is different and has better choice and better food than just going out for pub food. We are lucky to have the place here in Penketh/Great Sankey

Very disappointed with the food. Only rated it 3 because the staff were nice. The place itself is beautiful but the quality of food let it down. As a party of 13 celebrating a special birthday you would have hoped the meal went perfectly but sadly it didn’t. We did complain but it wasn’t taken very seriously. For a Sunday afternoon you would have expected the restaurant full, it wasn’t but maybe it’s for the same reason as my experience. A justified complaint shouldn’t just be brushed off. My advice would be for the management to listen to constructive feedback.

Surprised to see so many negative reviews for this place. I have been here a few times recently for both lunch and evening meal and been impressed. The food and service has been much better than expected for the price, and it is absolutely spotless.

Thought we would have a very nice, quality Sunday Roast. What a terrible mistake - this was a particularly half-hearted attempt. We should have realised from initial perusal of the menu, there was not a carvery and not a 'roast of the day' and rather an offering of 4 meats and a veggie option, but were in hope that they would pull together a solid roast! Assembling on a plate an apparently pre-cooked/bought in but cold single Yorkshire Pudding, some rather dubious looking pre-packed/formed meat, cold cabbage, a thumb of carrot, roasted squares of very oily potato (with rosemary and garlic it seemed) and very sweet gravy (one size fits all possibly to cover the main roast options), does not make a Sunday Roast. It was awful, truly awful. Complained about the cold food, waited 20 - 25 minutes for replacements and still came out again with cold Yorkies! Waiter/manager was rude and was dismissive of our complaints (something to do with heat lamps, other nonsense and excuses (I stopped listening) and has never happened before, says it all - doesn't care one iota), the rest of the staff were inattentive and didn't really care either. It seemed we were being punished for having the disrespect to complain. Slow, poor food, poor quality, poor service and rude. Phew, nearly forgot, it was over-priced as well !

What an utter disappointment this family lunch turned out to be. We should have realised when we arrived what culinary delights awaited us when only two tables were occupied in this large canteen style restaurant. The food that we had could only be likened to poor hospital fair. A total waste of money and I would leave no stars if possible.

Would not recommend this place there was no atmosphere The starter of mushroom bruschetta was no description I ordered the chicken stroganoff which came with one large carrot in the middle of the chicken and rice .took one taste of the rice which you could tell had been well overheated there not edible . I got the replacement of fish and chips which again no flavour to the fish what so ever Very disappointed

This place has a lot of potential but the food just isn’t good enough. We all had a Sunday roast. The meat was really poor quality and seems processed. The whole meal but particularly the roast potatoes was doused in salt. Service wasn’t great. The waiter wasn’t happy when I complained about my food. I felt like he was challenging my opinion instead of accepting it. I’ve eaten at this place dozens of times since it opened but the last few times have been horrendous. If you like service with a smile, fresh, high quality food and a good atmosphere, this isn’t the place for you! I will be avoiding from now on.

The food and drink are very expensive. Especially considering it is so bland. The Italian waiter was very rude and abrupt and snapped at me when I queried the time taken between starters and mains (1 hr 20 mins). To top it all off my wife and I were both sick that night (pasta). We paid over £200 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children). Over priced, bland food, rude and aggressive waiter, very long waits and odd decor. Feels a bit like a canteen with an odd atmosphere. We definitely will not be going back here. It’s just not worth it sadly.

Not very many vegan options and they had a really loud sing on so we couldn’t really talk to each other. I know it was a Saturday night but it was early. We got there at 7:30 and we asked three times for it to be turned down just so that we could hear each other talk. Food was nice. Place was nice but wouldn’t visit again because of this.

We had a wonderful buffet for an 80th Birthday at Fagans wine bar. The ribs and Lancashire hot pot were especially delicious and family and friends had nothing but praise for the food and venue. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We will definitely be back.

We used Fagin's for my wife's 60th birthday celebration with friends and family. I can only thank Luciano and his staff for a wonderful afternoon where the service and food were excellent. The entertainment was of the highest quality and everyone enjoyed themselves in a wonderful venue. I would certainly recommend using the venue as it provided the perfect day for my wife

Such a strange place. Its stuck in the 90s and needs modernising, as does the menu. The food was very average and bland. The service was lacking and the server miserable. Not sure what the fagin and Oliver theme is about, but it's very strange. Would not recommend at all

Nice Surroundings how ever on the few occasions I have visited I have always been disappointed in the food This time was the last I had pate to start and it was the worst I have had what made it bad was the fact it was done through a piping bag never ever have I ate pate so soft and looked like a dog poo on my plate The main I went for lasagna that was no better very small and it was like stop the meat so stoggy I could make better myself the price was high for what it was

Fantastic visit to Olivers for Sunday Dinner on 19/02/23. The Sunday lunch menu is great value for 3 courses and has lots to choose from. The roast dinner was delicious, perfectly cooked and well presented with a good amount of food on the plate. Service was fantastic, food was served in good time for all 8 people on our table, waitresses were polite and attentive to our needs. Would recommend - 5 stars!

I visited her with my husband and parents, being vegan it can sometimes feel really awkward having no choices when you’re out with meat eaters but the food did not disappoint. My husband had the pork ribs and the portion was really big, I got the falafel and my mum got the mushrooms. The portions for those were small but super tasty! My dad got the garlic bread which looked nice too. The mains were generous and my family said the steak was lovely desserts were nice too. It wasn’t overpriced and the singer that came on at the of our meal was good. Lovely atmosphere, really help staff and tasty food!!!

We have been coming to Olivers for a few years now. The waitresses/waiter are always polite and welcoming. We have never had a bad steak it is always perfectly cooked and as we have asked for it, i.e. medium etc. On our latest visit I was surprised to see they have reduced the size of the fruit crumble! Now served in a small ramekin and an even smaller jug of custard. I have always enjoyed this but I think this will be the last time I order that dish. Such a shame, I understand hospitality has taken a hit in recent times but really does it save that much? Regardless we will return and continue to support this restaurant.

NO COVID RESTRICTIONS! Went for Sunday lunch and the place was packed! No 2m distancing, no one way system and staff not wearing face shields or gloves.Food was average! We have never walked out of a restaurant before, but we did here!We just called in for lunch and wished we hadn't bothered. The place was busy, but there were a few in and the atmosphere was ok.Once we were at our table, the waiter (David, who I have to say was great) brought the menu over. My wife is allergic to eggs and I am gluten free, so we check everything as a matter of course and tell the waiter.The starter of Pork Bites were ok, but the problems really started with the main courses. I wanted to the order the burger, which was advertised as gluten free on the menu, my wife ordered the vegan bean burger. The waiter returned, telling me that the kitchen staff couldn't actually agree on whether the beef burger was actually gluten free or not, despite the menu saying it was and they had run out of gf bread buns anyway. So, I opted for the gf fish and chips instead.The food arrived, my wife looked at the bun the vegan burger arrived in....it was a Brioche bun. The waiter came back, was very apologetic, said he had explained our food requirements to the kitchen staff and said he would have the meal prepared correctly. I said he could take my meal back as well, otherwise we wouldn't be eating together. . He told us the chefs were arguing about whether my wife was vegan or allergic to eggs, the waiter told them it didn't matter, the menu said vegan and it wasn't.. The waiter had asked for the manager to speak to us and he did. However, he was not apologetic and tried to excuse what had happenedA while later, he brought back 2 fresh meals, apparently all as originally ordered. However, the vegan burger was cold. The waiter couldn't have been more apologetic, but that was the final straw and we left.Honestly, if this was a script, no-one would believe it. It was so bad it was laughable. We will not be eating there again.I dread to think what could have happened if we suffered from anaphylaxis reactions.

Much prefer the wine bar to the restaurant. Both are very expensive but the wine bar is pretty nice to sit in to be fair! The restaurant is very over priced for what it is, the food is just average. I recommend if you go, just go and have a few drinks as it’s a pretty move atmosphere and the staff are good. But can’t give it above average because of the restaurant!

On arrival a nice atmosphere in pleasant surroundings with friendly staff, it was early so orders were taken quickly, the starters were served and mostly enjoyed except for the prawns which were said to be bland and tasteless, the mains followed again quite quickly again most meals were enjoyed except for one a curry which was not warm and again tasteless , the restaurant had now filled and the waiter and waitress were run of their feet .we sat looking at empty plates for over thirty minute's, finally having to ask for them to be removed, the deserts were ordered and again a long delay in arrival, on the whole not a bad experience but definitely overpriced in my opinion I don't think we will go back considering what is on offer elsewhere.

Family celebration on a Saturday evening.Plus points - friendly staff, nice atmosphere and surroundings and great drinks. Desserts good! Chips delicious.Now for the bad bit.... I had the prawns to start, the sauce was lovely, just not enough of it making it a bit bland. The chicken balti was cold (Chicken cold and sauce lukewarm).... and the naan was burnt and not edible, you would expect perfection at these prices. I should’ve complained but everyone was enjoying theirs so didn’t want to make a fuss. I personally think I may have been unlucky but it’s incredibly overpriced and there are better places to eat locally, which are better value.Feeling disappointed, hungry and short changed.

It’s a lovely restaurant but if you really know how dishes should be properly cooked, then you’ll realise the food here on several dishes fall short.My third visit and on the basis of give them a boost and benefit of the doubt’ following two previous mediocre meals the dishes failed again.Firstly the menu is weird, it’s short and has some obvious bistro dishes which are missing and it’s disappointing. Prices are high end and poor value.. £21 for a duck course, £22.50 for a steak and £3 for a small sauce... c’mon, your taking the Mickey at those prices.Starter of garlic bread with tomato a thick bruschetta style and I don’t think I tasted garlic! So a bad start, the duck dish was worse... it was cooked so poorly, tough beyond anything that even a steak knife meant considerable pressure and muscles to try to cut it, meat strands all over it.. an utter mess. It went back and was refunded.Thankfully it won’t be a fourth visit except for the lovely bar.It could and should be much better and if I owned this, I’d make changes.

Had another beautiful meal here for Hubby's birthday he said the steak was amazing as one my salmon, it is a lovely place, with great service from start to finish, the gorgeous Lee once again made us feel so welcome and is an expert at his job, would highly recommend, be back again soon, keep up the great work guys

Went here with the girls on Saturday. Three of us couldn't eat our meals. The Lasagna was awful and the monkfish was rock hard. Complained to to waiting on staff. Received no apology. The manager couldn't careless.To sum it all up we would never go again. Its limited, overpriced menu and the food isn't up to scratch whatsoever. Don't waste your money

Valentines night 2020. Arrived to be ignored by the front of house (Manager) who was having a conversation with a man about the delivery of chocolates and standing within a foot us of. When the other guy said to the manager to deal with us the manager's response was "No they are OK!" Actually no, we weren't, it would have been nice had the Manager said "I will be with you in a minute" or similar! First time here, not a good start! One of the waitresses saw us waiting and came over to deal with us and seated us at our table. Fortunately the waiting staff made up for his attitude, all of them were superb and could not be faulted. The food was OK but nothing to write home about, my husband had duck duo and was warm not hot. I had fillet steak which was really tasty. So Mr Manager, if you bother to read this, that's why we ignored you when we left! Attitude breeds attitude!

So just ate at Oliver’s and have to say bit of a strange one. Not really what I expected. Firstly the menu for a Monday night you would expect to have some kind of offer (two course for 15 say) and the menu itself was confusing and wasn’t sure what kind of place we were in? Pasta, steak, french!? Identity crisis. Side dishes on the menu but no real plates that you would ask for sides? Ordered a garlic ‘bread’ and the smallest portion of cheese/ tomatoes on ciabatta turned up!? Not a good start. Then a very bland bolognese and stupid spicy vegetable penne dish with peas turned up. The waiter was pleasant enough but gotta say 51 quid for a couple of drinks, the tiniest garlic bread and forgettable pasta on a Monday night.... I rest my case. Won’t be rushing back to be fair.

So we come here often, it's our local, and it's a great place, we came for lunch as we prefer it here in the afternoons to the evenings, the staff are great Barbara and Julie, know exactly how to make your experience a good one, service and food great, we also liked the fact that they have moved some low tables into the reasaraunt bar area, I'm not a fan of high stools, so we were able to sit in the window and have a drink before our meal, I'd recommend the pate for starters, and the chicken in mushroom sauce for main, my husband had the fish and chips, also great, lunch menu is very reasonable.

I ate here some time ago and was disappointed. Reluctantly I returned with friends for a Christmas lunch.

Sunday menu was a bit of a disappointment; been before and was given a different menu which seemed to have more choice. Raved about it to friends and then got a different menu with almost a ‘pub’ feel to it.

I visited yesterday for lunch. Starter 10/10, Sweet 9/10, Main Course 4/10. The 'roast' potatoes were hard and white, the stuffing ball was a hard ball of stuffing that couldn't be cut, obviously had been kept warm a number of days! The plus was the vegetables. My husband attended yesterday too with his mates for an evening meal. Again, exactly the same problems with undercooked and white roasties and very hard stuffing ball, they also confirmed excellent starters and sweets. Suggest the chef does proper roasties in the oven in goose fat etc etc, what a difference it would make!! Staff friendly and attentive, no complaints there :-)

22 friends attended for Christmas lunch. It was very busy when we arrived but it was super organised. All our meals were hot and freshly made and everybody passed comment on how lovely they were.

This was our third year here , but will be our last, No christmas atmosphere, No christmas crackers on the table, then to top it all they asked us to vacate the table, the last two years we kept our table and had entertainment so we were able to dance and return to our seats , the manager said we could sit in the bar where there were no seats no music at this point so we all left 10.30!!!!!

A big THANKYOU to the manager and his team for making my birthday party a great success. As a party of 14 on a busy xmas night things could have gone a bit wrong. But no, my evening was brilliant from start to finish. Food was lovely. Every thing cooked to order and beautifully presented. I especially want to mention David who looked after our table. He was to say the least amazing. Worked really hard all night , attentive and professional. Mr manager please take note --- he deserves recognition. I did become aware that some other parties were complaining. Really ? Can only say they must be very hard to please and looking for something to moan about. Ignore them ! Once again , a BIG THANKYOU.

This is the third year we have booked our christmas meal here, the manager said that was wrong as it had only been open for 2 years, well we have been for the last 2 years and this was the third. We then had to wait for meal service, the meal itself was ok despite having to wait between courses, the pricing of the meal was odd to say the least, when we went in to book we were told that the main meal was one price then if you wanted starter and dessert it would be separate come to paying the bill it was £35 different to what we had worked out the manager then said that the first and main course had been charged at one price and dessert at a separate price, this is where the difference in price came as they charged more for the starter / main course together than if ordered separate. We were then asked to leave our table at 10.00pm as they had another party in, to say we were not happy is an understatement, the entertainment was non existent. The manager / maitre D was obnoxious and actually pushed me out of the way. We will not be visiting again and check your bills carefully people.

Came here with friends from work for lunch. It was really nice, the food very good (choices from the Christmas Menu ) and the staff were very friendly with good service. Lovely relaxing atmosphere with nice modern decor and furnishings. I would happily come back and have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant !
