Oliver's Italian in Basildon

Went here for a birthday, and the whole restaurant was empty. Nice big restaurant but was dead flies on window sills where we sat. Could do with a good clean. Staff looked bored and was behind bar drinking. Food was clearly just microwaved. Calamari was disgusting and raw. Would never visit again.

The waiters were amazing!! They went above and beyond to make my daughters 16th birthday so special. The food was amazing. The girls had moctails. They said they were amazing. The waiters were friendly and very funny. They sang for my daughter and and were dancing. They really made her night. I would definitely come back

We ate in the restaurant, everything was good and had an inviting appearance and excellent quality ingredients, the place was clean and tidy, the staff was kind and professional, the atmosphere was very welcoming

The staff goes above and beyond for their customers. My favourite pizza has to have gorgonzola. After asking if they have it in the kitchen even if I have not seen it on the menu anywhere the waiter said he'll go across the road to buy some. I can honestly say that I was extremely surprised when I saw the gorgonzola on my pizza. All the food that we ordered was really good and fresh. Nice terrace and view and they also have private free parking for customers.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the garden. Lasagne and pizza both very nice. Staff very friendly and service very good. Will be going again soon.

Good food - good service - good entertainment

A lovely welcome from our waiter at the door. Really lovely indoor seating. The outdoor seating area looked lovely, too. The food was excellent. Our water was professional, friendly, and attentive. Was early Saturday so quiet but slowly others arrived. I'd highly recommend it. Oh, the shape of the building is very interesting. A hexagon cut into the slope of the hill makes inside and outside lovely and quirky.

Restaurant has very nice ambience and decor. Husband had Calamaria to start and we both had Spagetti Carbonara for mains. It stayed very hot despite us waiting for the Parmesean cheese and it was delicious. It took a while for our plates to be cleared (and the restaurant wasn't overly busy), hence why I've given 4 stars and not 5. Staff were happy box mine up as I couldn't finish it. Would love to come back to try other dishes.

This is such a lovely find, great food and lovely warm welcome, sat our table of 10 including an infant with no problems, staff are just fabulous and attentive. Even sung Happy Birthday to my daughter which was just the icing on the tiramisu 😀. We need to make sure these lovely authentic restaurants stay open against the high street chains!! Will definitely be booking again

From arrival to the bill we had an amazing evening. The service was fantastic Artan our waiter made sure we had everything we needed and Billy behind the bar made us amazing drinks. Food was fantastic and really good value for money, the fish and steaks were cooked to perfection and the atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and yet really fun . We are looking forward to our next visit and we will be returning vey soon, many thanks for a great time

We were so impressed with this restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. Our waitor, Artan, was so welcoming and friendly. It was great service.

Food was absolutely 1st class, and the waiters were excellent. We had starters and mains, both were perfectly prepared and looked good on the plate. Was very quiet when we went in on a Friday night, which is a shame for them. The outside doesn't look all glitz and glam it in my opinion, looks like a restaurant you'd find set back somewhere in Spain or something, and it'll have a great reputation. Don't judge a book by its cover head inside. Honestly, we'd return if we are over that way again. (NO pics as it was a night out with the wife)

Went for my wife’s birthday, great food and atmosphere

First time visit. Decent resturant appearance as it was a Turkish before this incarnation. Nice choices on main menu but desert menu is quite limited.

Been few times before but food was terrible this time. Had the veal which was chewy and covered in a salty gravy and sat next to it was a hand full of lettuce. Lettuce and gravy??side of veg turned up after we had finished our meal. They forgot an order. Ravioli was awful- tasteless and badly cooked. I gave two stars because the staff handled it well and offered free dessert, albeit made from synthetic cream.

Friday night - restaurant largely empty - food not great and asked to leave at just gone 10.30 (apparently they shut at 10.30 and not 11 at the weekend).

The place has a nice decor ,friendly staff ,good variety of food but we were there in October abd it was freezing.spoilt our meal

i’ve been to this restaurant a few times before and have never had any issues, the food and service has always been exceptional, it always holds a lovely atmosphere with staff, and especially when there are the live singers, even with the odd few up and dancing! i never normally leave reviews, however this restaurant certainly deserves one. we were there tonight, and even on a quieter night. the atmosphere was still lovely, and staff still putting in 110%, couldn’t have asked for a better night…would definitely recommend!

First impressions: the restaurant is STUNNING! I've never seen a restaurant like it. Our waiter was friendly, prompt and very smiley! I'm vegan, my husband is not. We had the bruschetta pomodoro and garlic pizza bread to start and the vegan carbonara and penne con vodka (I think it was called) with king prawns and salmon. I'd love to see a vegan dessert other than sorbet as there are loads of good sounding non-vegan desserts. I'd definitely recommend it!

Great food, atmosphere and service. It was the first time my husband and I had been here and we were really impressed. The inside is lovely, really warming with a lively atmosphere. Friendly staff and great service, will definitely be back!

Really disappointed. I asked for my pasta with no shrimp and was given a replacement of salmon instead when I was never asked or told of any replacement. I am a vegetarian and ended up only realising there was salmon after I had taken a bite. I had to swap meals with my bf. When I mentioned this to the waitress at the end I never got an apology and was told that I should have said I was vegetarian. Also when I asked if the Parmesan was vegetarian I was laughed at and told that all Parmesan is vegetarian and I was apparently confused with vegan. That’s not the case, most Parmesan is not veggie. Would not go here again due to this service, shame because the place looked very nice.

I booked this restaurant for today Monday 24 July for our 10th wedding anniversary. I received a confirmation email but when we got there it was closed. Nobody contacted us to say it would not be open. Not impressed.

We had a meal on Wednesday night celebrating my best friend birthday! The food was delicious excellent stakes ,the service very professional&wine list perfect highly recommend.

Came here for a romantic dinner, the food was amazing! couldn't fault the taste or portion size. Proper Italian food. I had the meatballs to start and partner had the bruschetta. Both delicious then I had the King Prawn and Salmon vodka penne pasta, with a garlic pizzette for side. partner had the lasagne. Both portions were huge and so tasty. We only had soft drinks but the drinks menu was huge. The only thing letting this place down is the service, to order took too long and in between dishes was too long. We're quick eaters but was in there over 2.5hrs for two courses, we skipped desert because of this. If you aren't in a rush then I would 100% recommend this place.

Food was hit n miss. 8 guests and only 2 or 3 were happy with their starter and main. some meals swimming in various sauces which overpowered the taste of the meat or fish. Some were simply swimming in oil. Decent enough drinks, waiting staff were good but there were only 3 of them in a busy restaurant, more staff needed for sure. Lively atmosphere and a few drinks down us still made for a decent enough night but it would not be on my list for a revisit.

Fantastic Restaurant…. We have been twice in a month and we love it. Great with kids and a lovely setting for couples. Food is unreal too, great wine and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.

First time visiting here was amazing food friendly staff great atmosphere portions of food was very generous only thing I would suggest is bit of side salad with the lasagne but defiantly will be visiting again xx

Wonderful meal last night. Super Pollo Milanese and lamb followed by amazing cheesecake and crème brûlée. Good and very reasonably priced house wine. Good ambiance and attentive but not intrusive service. Highly recommended

Bad food. The service was terrible, don’t think we could ever Celebrate here again. Ok they had a bad night but that’s no excuse to be rude to the paying customers and to be honest they were horrendous. Most tables complained and they don’t deserve our custom

A table of 10 booked for my daughters 18th Birthday. The restaurant could not be any more helpful if they tried. Food was spot on service was First class. Thank you for a wonderful evening

Saturday 11th 15 of us went in the evening to celebrate a friends retirement. Although our food was pre ordered it turned out to be a total nightmare as we waited two hours. Starters didnt arrive all together and some mains weren't all there. Although my food was nice and the entertainer good it spoilt the evening with soo many people complaining...not just our table.

Worthy of a visit this place but be aware there is always a party going on here so a romantic weekend out you may want to go elsewhere. Staff do there best to cope with the party tables but could do with more staff . They have a bar but was told only to order from the table . Which ment waiting for ages for a drink . Ladies toilet 5 stars . Mens toilet 1 star . Sorry but 1 urinal that doesn't flow away fast enough so floods the floor is not good enough. But all said great night there on a birthday party with great entertaining singer . It's an interesting experience and really I would recommend you visit to make up your own mind .

Booked for a party of 17 guests,to celebrate a friends retirement. Previously had pre-booked menu choices and paid £10 deposit.On arrival,was seated at 2 tables in an extremely packed restaurant.Drinks was taken promptly and we all settled in for a nice evening.The restaurant provided a good entertainer,which was pleasant and gave a good vibe.However,after about 1 and a half hours we was still waiting for our starters, wasn't able to purchase drinks at the bar and no table service for drink orders.Starters started arriving in 1 or 2's,with 3 being forgotten completely.Reminded staff several times even though the staff had a sheet with the pre-ordered food,the remaining starters took at least 10 minutes to arrive.By 9.45 pm we was still waiting for the tables to be cleared, our mains started to arrive at 9.50pm.The pizza and garlic bread,which had been pre-ordered had run out.An alternative was offered as a good will jester for the pizzas,however no alternative was given for the garlic bread.The evening was spoilt by a poorly run team,in disorganised chaos.It's a shame because this could of been really good,but to many flaws to recommend or to return.

They was understaffed, even know they was aware of the amount of people coming, as we had to preorder. The bar staff and waiters was lovely I cannot fault them, they was nothing but apologetic. However the owner the blonde lady and maybe her daughter, was nothing but rude to everyone. Shouting and screaming at people. One table complained and they offered to fight them outside. It seemed to be one of the workers boyfriends, offering to fight a man over the age of 50. And the younger lady and owner was screaming at a lady over the age of 50. It was a disgusting site, I would stay clear and not come to this restaurant.

Super restaurant with clean tasteful Italian style decor. The service was impeccable and the food really nice and plentiful but could do with being a little hotter when it reaches the table. A little overpriced for my liking but I will certainly return and try another of the dishes on their superb menu. Dessert menu is not that good though and was, to say the very least, disappointing.

Went on the weekend with my partner and our daughter. Amazing atmosphere, food is great and the staff are extremely friendly. My partner suffers with a gluten allergy, they were very helpful and accommodating, they also have a lot of selection for anyone who suffers with food allergies. Would highly recommend.

Mostly good food let down by terrible service. We had pre-ordered but had to ask for our food after being sat down for over half an hour. Then wrong food was brought out, member of staff then argued with us. Starters then brought out, mostly luke warm and still some orders missing. Another hour later had to chase our main courses. Main courses were very tasty. Throughout the evening we had to keep chasing for drinks, cleared our own table of glasses, watched a dirty bin bag being carried through the restaurant and were sprayed by something from the bar area. This was my son's birthday meal, thorough disappointed. Did send an email to restaurant but no response!

Had wondered for years what the place was like. Wish I was still wondering. My family decided to go tonight. Here's the rundown Calamari starter undercooked and like rubber My pizza, undercooked and just like an Iceland frozen pizza! Wife and son enjoyed their meals, which was at least something. Then waited 20 minutes for someone to clear the table and offer dessert. Never happened, so just grabbed the bill. My son didn't even get his ice cream as part of the kids menu. All other tables getting attended to and served, just not ours. Given we were a quiet family of 3 there wasn't even a reason! Can honestly say I will never willingly elect to go back!

I organised my wife's 40th birthday meal here with the help of Paolo and his team. We had an absolutely fantastic evening with delicious food and drink. Service was excellent with drinks ordered and served as quick as a flash. Food was hot, fresh and tasted superb, especially for a table of 26! No request was too big or too small. Would 100% recommend Oliver's for a future meal and already can't wait to go back as future regular customers!

Paolo is a legend, the staff is amazing, absolutely brilliant customer service, and amazing beer. Great food too! Definitely come and see Paolo!

Really very good... The manager is truly passionate about food! So it's wonderful. If you expect a Risotto in 5-10 minutes, it's not fresh! Good food takes time... Try the Chianti by the glass as you wait...it's sublime! Recommended and I will return.

We visited Olivers last night for a birthday meal and it was outstanding, the service was wonderful and the food was A-mazing. Honestly loved every minute the kids all enjoyed the food and husband and I were really impressed. Can't wait to come back

Very pleased we found this place. 3 of us had fillet steaks and it was cooked exactly as we ask for it. Miller and Carter take note! Everything we had was fantastic. Definitely coming here again.

Do not let the outside fool you as they are under a refit out side. In side is lovely wooden beams white walls and comfortable furniture. The staff are all Italian and very friendly and no request is a issue. The food was amazing and freshly cooked allowing time in-between courses so you have plenty of time to relax and enjoy yourself. I would recommend this to any friend or food lovers.

In a word excellent. Friendly, efficient and attentive complimenting very good food in a well decorated restaurant. What more could you want really.

Lovely restaurant. Very nice selection of Italian menu, little mean on some, lack of goat cheese in vegan risotto, little liqueur in the coffee. Waiting staff tend to forget some request such as carafe of water although they're very friendly.

This restaurant is a bit of a run down. Outside area is lacking of garden maintence. Good selection of menu, but lack of ingredients, ran out of chicken, parma ham etc, lead to limit choice of menu. Waiting staff is seem to be inexperienced, no table manner, lack of patience and slightly rude. Food served irrationally rather than same time, No cutlery nor serviettes,when the food served. Have to say Oliver is a complete let down to local communities.

So we went there to have a nice dinner and we were disappointed. The staff wasn’t very welcoming and friendly. I ordered mussels and they were cold and as it was said on menu it should come with fresh bread which wasn’t fresh and when i asked for butter they gave me a small packet of butter whichever made me feel like i was in school canteen. My partner ordered pizza with chicken and chicken was raw and disgusting.other thing we had to go to the bar to pay because nobody realised to check up on us. I wouldn’t recommend this place with bottom of my heart. As im experienced waitress i know all this very well There wasn’t many people there but we waited for only drinks around 20min which were pims with lemonade and peroni Other than that the area looks nice really posh but not worth it at all! We never coming back for sure!

A wide menu of very well prepared food & a decent wine list puts Oliver's ahead of the competition. Great dining ambience & some of the most comfortably wide chairs I've had the pleasure to sit in. More than reasonable pricing for the quality of the experience - well worth a visit.

I was on holiday visiting my best friend, and had the chance to dine at this wonderful Italian restaurant. I was not disappointed the food was exceptional, i had the monkfish which was superb, and the service was first class. I will definitely be going back.

We were the only group there, the staff out numbered us. They hoovered around until we ordered. We were reminded that they closed at 10pm, basically eat up....The food was very nice, but I personally wouldn't go back.

Last night I had the worst beef stroganoff ever and I know what I am talking about because it is my favourite dish and I know how to cook it! The rice was undercooked, so I sent it back to the kitchen. After 2-3 minutes the waiter brought it back to me (the SAME RICE). This time it was even worse, half undercooked and half overcooked (the rice was looking disgusting and full of water) ... It is a shame I forgot to take a photo. Stroganoff must be served with rice but I refused to eat that rice, so I had to order fries instead. Also, their price list is much more expensive than the prices on their website (overpriced in my opinion). I do not recommend this place to anyone and I hope it will shut down very soon! I don't even think there is a professional chef in the kitchen.... Come on, even my rice is better than that disgusting thing from last night! Thanks Oliver's from ruining my dinner! Do not offer beef stroganoff if you have no idea how to cook it.

Pushed into a corner upstairs..table for 4 mothers day, horrendous and hazardous..light to low overhangs seat my daughter bashed her head several times..stupid artificial blossom tree overhanging chair, worse experiance ever..food not to good to be honest wont be going back..very overpriced!!!

I would put zero stars if I could. Just came here for a o mother's day meal and we had to leave because they didn't have enough highchairs and they wanted us to wait until one became free!!! When we said we wasn't prepared to wait (because there was no timing offered whatsoever) they said they had to go and check with the manager if we could have our deposit back! Won't be back or recommending!!
