visited over a year ago with my elderly mother was very disappointed with food ordered quiche with salad and tea for drinks the quiche was clearly not made on the premises obviously shop bought and very bland at best we Ghent went outside for tea and scones which were ok to be honest apart from the lukewarm tea ghe building itself is nice enough but overall the food and the choice of it on offer is so different from online menu over the hill penshaw farm do cracking menu all the food made from scratch as well as it should

First time visiting today, beautiful location and delicious food. We ordered a beef brisket sandwich and corn beef pie with a side of fries. The brisket beef was lovely, soft and flavoursome. Also had a caramel iced latte and banana milkshake, both great! Will definitely be returning as the menu had plenty of choice, and the cakes also looked yummy. Friendly service 😊

What a beautiful old schoolhouse still with fixtures and fittings. Plus a history to learn about. Great friendly staff, well it the NorthEast. On to the food I had chicken and tarragon sandwich with salad. Top taste. My wife had a BLT, really enjoyed. As for the location really handy for a stop off the A19. Thank you.

A hidden gem! Beautiful location with delicious food. Ordered full english and decaf latte, both were scrumptious. My only criticism is that the scrambled egg lacked flavour, but other than that- no complaints! Cosy feel but still plenty of space, I could wonder round looking at all the memorabilia for hours. Can’t wait for a visit in the summer to sit outside!

Been here twice recently, once for lunch and the other time for breakfast. Both times the food, service and coffee were excellent. My partner’s great great uncle is on a school register from 1937, so the nostalgia in the building and the use of desks and pictures of the old school gives it a beautiful vibe. Highly recommend and can’t wait for good weather to make use of the outdoor seating

I went there for the first time this morning had a full English the cost was £9.20 well worth the price I would score this because of the price the food (which is important) 10/10 my only little and I mean little my cup of tea could have been a little bigger i could have bought another tea pot but that would have been to much to drink. I will be back with my wife to try their Sunday lunch which sounds fantastic and the price £10.50 I think it was sound very , very good(proof is in the pudding) watch this space . Their cream teas also sound very good at£19.00 but with a two day notice m the staff the owner and assistant are both very nice and happy to be there the touch I liked was when my food was ready they rang a school bell ....fantastic touch. Seeing it's the old school from the 1930s it closes at 3 so get there early .....

The menu bears no resemblance whatsoever to the one on the website. Service was very slow and poor despite being quiet. Staff were a nervous wreck (not their fault) Most of the menu items unavailable - unless you wanted a bacon sandwich or quiche. Ignored by staff for probably 20+ minutes despite not being busy. Tiny cheese scones which were blatantly shop bought were brought to our table along with drinks (although we were missing one.) To compound matters, the two outdoor toilets were out of order and my niece was desperate. Shouldn’t be open if there’s no toilet facilities. Sure there’s a health & safety law about that somewhere. Having been once before, I’d hoped they’d get their act together before I brought other family members, but if anything it’s going further downhill. Having seen the toilet facilities before, there is literally one outdoor cubicle for men and one for women. There’s clear daylight entering the cheaply made door through the 5mm spacing between each plank and the holes where the knots of wood have disappeared. Limited privacy is afforded to anyone using the facilities or the queue of people outside for that matter. It has potential, but ended up feeling embarrassed and disappointed that I took family there.

First time visit and not particularly impressed unfortunately. While I realise they've only been open for a few weeks and are still finding their feet, I wasn't expecting to order coffee and cheesecake and have a 25 minute wait for the cheesecake. By the time it turned up (after asking about it when the coffee arrived sans cake, plus another twice afterwards), coffee was long gone. I don't understand how it wasn't brought out on the same tray as the coffees (we were told then that they hadn't forgotten and it was coming right out - it wasn't!!) Cheesecake itself was OK, but the base was way too crumbly. Might try the place again in a few weeks, but for now can't give them a glowing recommendation, sorry! In reply to the owners, I totally appreciate you were really busy - my issue was that the cake came out 25 minutes after the coffee, not that I had to wait! I would rather have waited longer and had both items served together. I'll change my review to 4 stars as I'm not unsympathetic to the challenges of a new business

Visited today for the first time and my wife and I were completely satisfied with the food, service and ambience of the place. There are some negative comments on here and everyone is entitled to their opinion, however, it's a fledgling business which will grow in size and stature so for the time being be patient and enjoy what they are providing in their limited menu. We will certainly be back, it"s a pleasant experience.

First visit today. Lovely decor and nice outside space. When we went in we were not sure wether to sit down or order at till. Greeting wasnt exactly warm. Menu was limited but prices were reasonable. We ordered a sausage bap and quiche. Bap had no butter but was ok. We were given the wrong quiche which we chose to accept but mentioned it at end when paying. Got no apology! Two items on sweet menu not available. Overall service not the best snd wasnt full. Had to ask twice for some hot water for our tea. Hope this is just teething troubles as this has great potential. We will try again.

Visited for the first time today and very disappointed to say the least. I thought we were invisible as many staff passed us by for about 25 minutes before anyone took our order. It was not busy and I only wish we’d left. The toasted teacake was burnt and very poor quality and the cheese scone very bland. Both seemed to have been supermarket bought. The two teas came with tiny jugs half filled and no spoons. I wish we had donated the money to charity. An experience not to be repeated

Extensive menu on the Internet however not on the day we visited. Breakfast baps and a choice of 3 other sandwiches.Aswe told to wait for a table however people were going thru the other door and taking seats I suggest this should be blocked off. Staff didn't have a clue what they were doing they were like rabbits caught in the headlight when you asked a question. Tea delivered without a spoon and I had to ask for a knife to cut my sausage bap. I appreciate you have just opened and thing's will settle down however I really feel you should take time to train your staff wont be back for a while until there is more food choice and your staff know what their doing. Sorry but I wasn't impressed at all .

Lovely decor and grounds, but sad to say that not great service, (coffees arrived 15 mins before the cakes), the cheesecakes were poor quality, with the bases not intact, all crumbs. Lots of dogs whining.... Personally would only have the dogs permitted outside areas, as otherwise it feels like a large kennel!! Disappointed. 4/10 at best.

Second visit today with my folks. Mam and Dad loved the character of the school house which has been tastfully and sympathetically renovated. The fires will be lovely in the Winter. Went there today, really looking forward to it and , sadly, left really let down. The building and decor were lovely but that is where the praise ends I'm afraid. The limited menu ( we had to hunt around for one) was very bacon orientated. Unfortunately they didn't have any bacon! No mention that they sell tea on the menu either. Sat waiting about 20 minutes for someone to take our order, a few staff walking past looking busy and other customers coming in and waiting too. My sausage bap came with no knife or serviette so had to dip into my ketchup portion using the bap. 2 little sausages and no butter in it. Really poor value. My partner's scone was average but came with only 1 butter. The waitress discouraged my partner from getting a blueberry muffin by saying they were tiny! Our tea and latte failed to come at all which is unacceptable. Decided to leave so cancelled the tea and coffee order. Went to pay on my debit card and they couldn't take payment as they couldn't get a signal. Was asked if I had a credit card ( I don't) and in the end he said no charge due to the poor experience. Other people got up and left too. The waitress seemed surprised we hadn't had our tea and latte so obviously very chaotic. Will come back next Summer to see if the teething issues have been addressed. Sorry for posting such a negative review but I can't lie. When running smoothly I'm sure it will be lovely.

Great portions, meat was full of flavour, good sized Yorkshire pud, tasty veg, lots of gravy - what more could you ask for? And the stuffing with the chicken was delicious. atrocious service. we ordered via their website at 1830 for pick up at 1905. arrived at 1900 and they took my cash payment immediately not mentioning any issues saying it wouldn’t be long. at 1915 a guy came and told me would be 20 mins. lady told me at 1940 would be 5 mins. during this time people walking out people complaining about the service and ending up either leaving or asking for food to be boxed up as they had waited so long quoting 1hr 45 mins for food. 1955 he came out again to say will be 5 mins. food came eventually at 2000 and as i left the shop the guy followed me out with a bottle of wine as an apology. when i got home food was lovely and piping hot but they should just be honest about the waiting maybe something was going on and this isn’t normal as i’ve never been here before but if they don’t tell you what’s going on then you don’t know.
