Visited for breakfast, all you can eat buffet style. Lots of choice , even for a dairy free child. Children ate free as well when we visited.

The welcome was warm and friendly by all the staff and the food was great as usual and as much as we could eat all at a sensible price. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

We didn't eat here but we passed through to get to the premier Inn hotel. It looked very tired

Food, atmosphere, cleanliness as you would expect from a chain. Interacted with 3 staff members, one was lovely, 2 were surly beyond belief, we felt our custom was an imposition. They got the only special requirement order wrong. Everyone has bad days, we just turned up on theirs.

Excellent service and staff with good quality food at affordable prices. Disabled access at the front isn't up to much. Dated decor and layout combined by not being table service are definite negatives. You can be queuing for some time to place your order during busy times. Toilets leave a lot to be desired.

Have been here a number of times. We chose for location, the ease of online booking and because there is plenty of space inside for a large group of us having a family meetup. Food was decidedly average but relatively cheap. Service was good, although a few items forgotten they were quickly rectified. Staff were nice

Our children wanted to have a traditional English breakfast. That turned out well: white beans in tomato sauce, sausage, black pudding, egg (preparation of your choice), etc. It was very tasty. And we were served very kindly by Claire.

We went for an evening meal .The food was excellent with nice staff serving us.Will go again.

Always love a Brewers fayre breakfast as they are such good value. We sat around the corner from the food area, and I found a bit of a letdown. Where we sat was dark, strangely enough, I felt as though I was sitting in a different pub. The biggest letdown for me was the lack of fesh orange. There wasn't any on offer at all. The hot food was lovely in taste, but there wasn't very much of it considering the amount of seating they offered. It was exceptionally busy, but yet they kept running out of food items, and replenishment weren't fast.

Went on a Bank Holiday Monday. We wanted their 2 meals for £11+ But were told as it was a Bank Holiday the special deal was not available. Why is this not mentioned on their website? Why a great big notice at the front entrance advertising the special offer. Plus several items not available on the menu !!

Food much improved since previous visits, however children's portions seem to have shrunk!

Breakfast at the Old Nelson is always a popular way for my Grandsons to start their weekend. Decent grub, eat all you want at a price I love.

It's a nice place to have some cheap food. My missus and I usually have breakfast 2 or 3 times a month. Unlimited hot food, teas and coffees, continental and kids eat free.

Staff always friendly, for years we were put off by others, missed a gem.

Great breakfasts grandchildren love going here for breakfast and spending time with the Oldies..

A little on the quiet side when we were there.. but the place has potential. Good atmosphere and I imagine when busy could have the makings of a good night Service was good.. No complaints at all !

Came in on Sunday afternoon for a meal, 1st time I’ve been in for years and I have to say it’s gone downhill! Being told false information by staff on carvery time and having gone up for my carvery they had cleared it up BEFORE the stop serving time of 5pm this was at 4:45 pm! Having worked in a similar establishment if we did that we’d get complaints! Other food took ages to come from the kitchen had to ask where the food was! Bearing in mind it wasn’t Sunday peak time as we would have understood! After this experience won’t be returning!

We use this restaurant mainly lunchtimes and must say, the food is great quality and great value for money. What attracts us, though, are the friendly staff, genuinely so, nothing is too much trouble. Thank you.

Came for a boxing day meal and it was a really good experience. For the price paid the food was excellent and have paid a lot more for worse food elsewhere. Service was really very good. Staff were very proactive at spotting people had finished and following up with tables that were waiting on food. In lots of places staff avoid eye contact to avoid problems but definitely not here. They were all working very hard and definitely deserve a Christmas bonus for the work they put in.

Had a 33% off voucher. Family meal for 5 (one kids meal although there was one large carvery as well) all the drinks £52 and tonne fair it wasnt average it was good! Great service, nice food. Fantastic! Thanks the old nelson 😁

Stroud & District Veterans Breakfast Club Christmas dinner 2023. All members would like to thank the Old Nelson Brewers Fayre Stroud for an outstanding Christmas dinner. The quality of the food on there menu was second to none. Well worth the money. A big thankyou to the staff for a quick delivery of the courses and professional throughout the day. A big thank you to Claire, Nikki, Louise and Rhianna for their warm welcome, patients and professional service. Merry Christmas to you all and we will see you in the new year for our next meeting.

We came for a Christmas meal for members of a group, there were a lot of us and the staff were brilliant. Really welcoming and friendly and very accommodating of our needs and particularly those with mobility issues. They were all really helpful and patient and the food came out in good time considering how many people they had to cater for in one go. I would thoroughly recommend the Old Nelson as a brilliant place to have a group meal especially those who might be more vulnerable or have mobility difficulties. Thank you.

We've had the pleasure of holding our Christmas dinner here for the last four years & will continue to do so. We always experience exceptional service & delicious food. The waiting staff are extremely friendly & helpful, nothing is too much trouble, they are such a lovely team. Lovely menu, which is reasonably priced and friendly staff. What more could you want.

My mum and I often come to the Nelson. The staff are amazing, particularly Clare and Abbi and the very friendly waitress whose name I didn’t catch. Food is lovely and good value and they always check in to make sure the meal is ok. Thoroughly recommend!

Food ok,my partner wanted a vegan meal,of which she had,there should me a separate menu for vegans,it would be easier.

The service is great. However, Sunday lunch I had on November 12 was disappointing. The carvery was less than average. I had the gammon which was a small portion although cooked ok. Yorkshire pudding was cold. All the vegetables were cold. Roast potatoes were coated in something I have not tasted before. Cauliflower cheese were tiny florets with tasteless cheese sauce. Gravy a little greasy also cold. I have Sunday carvery at other Brewers Faye restaurants that were better cooked than the Old Nelson. I suggest to take a look at the produce served before ordering. Just to add the food is better described as lukewarm.

The food seem an alright quality. Bit of a mix up with our food and drinks. All got sorted, but everyone ate at a different time. No apologies. Overall an ok experience

Me and mum went to the Nelson this evening, staff member Anna was very accommodating and sat us down in an area we wanted. She also ensured our meals came out to us in a timely manner, very polite, thanks Anna !

Went for lunch today 01/11/2023 with a group of 6 others. First time for a while because the last time I went, well over a year ago, the meals and whole demeanour of the place were really poor. I don't ever expect too much of a place like this serving cheaply-priced "trad" grub, but thought the quality of the food had improved slightly - my order of a main course (all I had) was palatable (chicken & ham pie), hot and filling but probably not very nourishing! We all thought the peas were undercooked. The decor needs updating and many of the tables and chairs replacing - it's shabby without the chic!

Only stopped for a drink whilst waiting for a friend.......the lad behind the bar was very friendly which made me feel welcome.....the food smelt great and lots of elderly eating here which is always a good sign! 👍

Visited here a few weeks ago in the middle of a work crisis and the lady who runs the place was an absolute angel- she helped me out so much, was so kind and hospitable and really went the extra mile. I was blown away by how lovely she was and how much everyone went out of their way- letting me stay there whilst I worked everything out and being super friendly and welcoming. Had a lovely coffee- would absolutely recommend this place it was a dream to find it ! Thank you guys for saving my day :)

Brilliant place to go for a meal and will always keep going back. The only downside is that if you order prawn cocktail, they do serve it with bread and butter but unfortunately the butter is solid as if its come from the freezer so it's absolutely useless and can't be used

Amazingly priced decent buffet breakfast. Well worth a visit. Staff super friendly, loos nice and clean and very good coffee. Didnt try the Guinness (it was breakfast, come on!!! :)

Tried 3 different Brewers Fayres' in Gloucestershire and this one was the best by far.The whole experience was worth the extra travelling .Especially the food which was spot on. The other two were let down by cold food and a bad experience involving a disgustingly dirty disabled toilet.

Would have preferred a quieter table but were told there weren't any despite being almost empty...Bar service was good, restaurant staff were OK but not particularly attentive. Food was hot and tasted ok. There was not much atmosphere at the time we went...

The food in this place cooked by Richard the Chef has been absolutely brilliant the whole time I've stayed in the hotel adjacent for the previous month. The staff are absolutely brilliant, how they provide such a service when the restaurant is so busy is simply amazing. I'm currently working away and have stayed in hotels that have restaurants with a more premium price, the service received there with a smaller restaurant does not compare at all. From the breakfast to supper, this restaurant is the absolute business. Professional and personal, almost perfect you could say. It may look tired, but you'll feel the energy when you walk in.

Nice outdoor eating tables weather permitting. Inside is open and clean and the food is reasonably priced.

Dined here over the weekend on Friday night, Saturday morning, and Sunday morning. Their menu is adequately varied with a menu similar to weatherspoons basic pub grub, though the quality of the meat mains was superior. Their breakfast, however, was great value for money. for 7.99 you can have an unlimited continental breakfast, including pastries, pancakes, crumpets, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, and I’m sure this is not exhaustive. For just £2 more you can have unlimited hot food too! Beans, sausages, hash browns, bacon, mushroom, black pudding, the works! The only thing I had and didn’t think was good value for money was the max and cheese bites. Unpleasant texture and very bland and expensive.

Food prices good if you use special offers. 2 for 1 mains were good value and tasty. We only go between 12 and 6 to get deals. Drink not as cheap as Spoons but reasonable.

Love going to the old Nelson. Probably the best pub in Stroud for pub food.

Monday the 27th March 2023 with family we meet at the old Nelson Stroud hoping for a nice meal before a very sad day Tuesday 28th we all order some kind of enjoyed there food others not so much me being the first I had gammon yes we all know it can be salty so I say to the waitress I’m very sorry I’m not able to eat mine it’s very salty her reply was ( WELL THATS GAMMON FOR YOU NOT MUCH WE CAN DO ABOUT THAT ) some 10 minutes later I’m unfortunately in the ladies being extremely sick on the bathroom floor many others also had very upset tummies NOT A VERY NICE EXPERIENCE 🤮😞

We visited for my sons birthday this morning! The staff made such an effort singing happy birthday and putting a banner on our table THANKYOU food was excellent very clean and tidy and very good value well done 👏

Went for breakfast. A lovely environment for a nice catch up with friends. Pleasant, helpful staff.

We went in the day... Two meals for £9.50... And the fish and chips was a good portion size.. The club sandwich is huge.. For the price excellent.
