Took my 91 year old brother for a meal and drinks a couple of times and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

So many things unavailable, like rice!! Told initially no replacements available so just had to pick something else. Apparently the kitchen was feeling very nice, so they did eventually give kids chips instead of sweet corn! Parking very difficult

The food is excellent and offered in generous portions. The service is satisfactory, with some staff members being quite friendly while others may not be as attentive. The ambiance is pleasant, and the pub is well-maintained and clean. I highly recommend it and will certainly return when I'm in Stroud.

Came and had a 25 person family meal for my sons 10th birthday, staff abbie & Mia went above and beyond for us, they decorated the tables and area around & ensured everything ran smoothly! The food was delicious & everyone had an amazing time! Huge thank you to abbie& Mia!! Deserve a medal for dealing with my crazy family!! 💕

Delightful welcoming staff and good value for money.

Went there today, had the mixed grill and upgraded the steak. When it arrived, looked like it had a massive chunk missing, the chicken had water in it, the gamón had white fatty bits, so it was definitely undercooked. We also ordered chicken wings and they tasted stale. The fries tasted stale. Massive disappointment. My drink, a coke had a lemon piece which looked like it had been reused from another drink, it was vile, there was rubbish in the floor. Will not return. It wasn’t busy so it was obviously a kitchen and staff issue. Management needs to step it up, it’s a shame because it was a special occasion for us and left really disappointed and scared thinking the food would make us sick.

It would be great if the waiters would give at least a little information about the fact that the order should be made at the bar, that the tea and coffee should be made independently. we just wasted our time waiting for someone to approach us.

Love the homely atmosphere here for breakfast or dinner, food is good value and staff are welcoming and friendly

I’ve stayed in the Premier Inn a few times and always eat here. Getting the meal deal when you book a room is great value for dinner and breakfast. I would highly recommend if you stopping over in Stroud. The one really nice point is the people who work here are very polite

Don't usually write negative reviews but was less than happy last night and will not visit again. Was very quiet and 3 members of staff were on shift. We were not greeted by the blonde waitress, she was talking so we found a seat and that's where all her hospitality ended. She didn't check in on us, so had to ask for a kids menu. The man at the bar was the most helpful but he was at the end of the shift. When it came to desserts, 30 mins and tbey didn't come, waitress was too busy putting out cutlery in a quiet restaurant, so we went. We were offered a refund for the desserts when I asked if they were coming. But not one smile from either waitress or even a friendly manner. Food was what you'd expect for the price, my daughter didn't like her her pizza, so didn't eat it, was later sick at night. Not sure if this was related or not. Customer service and a Christmas spirit was truly missing here and wouldn't go again.

Great spot lovely staff and very helpful

The fish and chips meal was poor quality. The batter was soft and rubbery. The staff were hoping to get a new delivery of fish batter soon, as they had received other complaints. The floor was not clean but they said it had been busy.

Visited with family for a bit of a pre-Christmas dinner. Was very disappointed with the veggie christmas dinner option which was a shadow of its meaty equivalent - no sprouts or parsnips, just a few bits of broccoli and some peas (and roast potatoes). Can't help feeling the veggie meal is supplementing the cost of the turkey dinner... Beware if you are a vegetarian eating there on Christmas Day as the same menu applies - you will be very disappointed as your meaty counterparts tuck into a much more substantial meal :-(

We just did the Unlimited Breakfast this morning as a treat & it was great. Glad the Old Nelson in Stroud is still going. With the local beefeaters now shut, I thought these too had closed but at the moment they & the Whittle in Brockworth are still operational and still doing Unlimited breakfasts Amazing value! 😁

Food much improved since previous visits, however children's portions seem to have shrunk! Vegan range very small, and most of the veg on the carvery is cooked with butter.

Had a lovely lunch here today. Two delicious meals for just under £12.

Food is very good for the price. Staff friendly and polite. Outside grounds needs a tidy up. Inside restaurant looking a bit tired.

This is not how it used to be, breakfast is really good, but evening meal is not so good, my daughter had steak and this was only browned/sealed on one side, the underneath was still raw. She likes her steak medium/rare but this one could still run in the fields. It was for her birthday so we had a table of 10, it was empty apart from a couple of people and us. They also no longer have a vegan option pudding except non dairy ice cream (I don't like ice cream) used to serve a chocolate torte (vegan).

Food was surprisingly good for a chain pub. An excellent mixed grill and a decent pint. Fair prices too.

We haven't eaten at this Brewers Fayre place for many years and have been twice in recent weeks. The first time was on a Friday lunchtime, and we hadn't booked. There was plenty of room for us, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The food was excellent and good value for money. Our second visit was on a Sunday lunchtime for the carvery meal, and this time, we booked online as it was bound to be busier. It was easy to book and we decided to eat at 12.15pm to avoid the very busiest period at 1pm. It was still busy, but their setup for serving food and drink was very efficient. Another great meal, and we were able to benefit from a 25% off email. Convenient location, great variety of quality food and friendly staff. Excellent 😀

A typical chain restaurant but a nice menu and good eating.

Celebrated my birthday here the staff were friendly and outstanding, so returned the following day for lunch and experienced the same treatment. Brilliant.

Visited for breakfast, all you can eat buffet style. Lots of choice , even for a dairy free child. Children ate free as well when we visited.

The welcome was warm and friendly by all the staff and the food was great as usual and as much as we could eat all at a sensible price. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Food, atmosphere, cleanliness as you would expect from a chain. Interacted with 3 staff members, one was lovely, 2 were surly beyond belief, we felt our custom was an imposition. They got the only special requirement order wrong. Everyone has bad days, we just turned up on theirs.

Good bar food. Service was great. Although busy, we were given a table quickly. Staff were friendly. Value for money. Would recommend

Excellent service and staff with good quality food at affordable prices. Disabled access at the front isn't up to much. Dated decor and layout combined by not being table service are definite negatives. You can be queuing for some time to place your order during busy times. Toilets leave a lot to be desired.

Have been here a number of times. We chose for location, the ease of online booking and because there is plenty of space inside for a large group of us having a family meetup. Food was decidedly average but relatively cheap. Service was good, although a few items forgotten they were quickly rectified. Staff were nice

Our children wanted to have a traditional English breakfast. That turned out well: white beans in tomato sauce, sausage, black pudding, egg (preparation of your choice), etc. It was very tasty. And we were served very kindly by Claire.

Booked a table for lunch today and was welcomed by Clare. She is always so friendly and helpful. Good food,great value and free parking which is a real plus.

Always love a Brewers fayre breakfast as they are such good value. We sat around the corner from the food area, and I found a bit of a letdown. Where we sat was dark, strangely enough, I felt as though I was sitting in a different pub. The biggest letdown for me was the lack of fesh orange. There wasn't any on offer at all. The hot food was lovely in taste, but there wasn't very much of it considering the amount of seating they offered. It was exceptionally busy, but yet they kept running out of food items, and replenishment weren't fast.

Went on a Bank Holiday Monday. We wanted their 2 meals for £11+ But were told as it was a Bank Holiday the special deal was not available. Why is this not mentioned on their website? Why a great big notice at the front entrance advertising the special offer. Plus several items not available on the menu !!

Breakfast at the Old Nelson is always a popular way for my Grandsons to start their weekend. Decent grub, eat all you want at a price I love.

It's a nice place to have some cheap food. My missus and I usually have breakfast 2 or 3 times a month. Unlimited hot food, teas and coffees, continental and kids eat free.

Staff always friendly, for years we were put off by others, missed a gem.

Great breakfasts grandchildren love going here for breakfast and spending time with the Oldies..

A little on the quiet side when we were there.. but the place has potential. Good atmosphere and I imagine when busy could have the makings of a good night Service was good.. No complaints at all !

Came in on Sunday afternoon for a meal, 1st time I’ve been in for years and I have to say it’s gone downhill! Being told false information by staff on carvery time and having gone up for my carvery they had cleared it up BEFORE the stop serving time of 5pm this was at 4:45 pm! Having worked in a similar establishment if we did that we’d get complaints! Other food took ages to come from the kitchen had to ask where the food was! Bearing in mind it wasn’t Sunday peak time as we would have understood! After this experience won’t be returning!

We use this restaurant mainly lunchtimes and must say, the food is great quality and great value for money. What attracts us, though, are the friendly staff, genuinely so, nothing is too much trouble. Thank you.

Came for a boxing day meal and it was a really good experience. For the price paid the food was excellent and have paid a lot more for worse food elsewhere. Service was really very good. Staff were very proactive at spotting people had finished and following up with tables that were waiting on food. In lots of places staff avoid eye contact to avoid problems but definitely not here. They were all working very hard and definitely deserve a Christmas bonus for the work they put in.

Had a 33% off voucher. Family meal for 5 (one kids meal although there was one large carvery as well) all the drinks £52 and tonne fair it wasnt average it was good! Great service, nice food. Fantastic! Thanks the old nelson 😁

We came for a Christmas meal for members of a group, there were a lot of us and the staff were brilliant. Really welcoming and friendly and very accommodating of our needs and particularly those with mobility issues. They were all really helpful and patient and the food came out in good time considering how many people they had to cater for in one go. I would thoroughly recommend the Old Nelson as a brilliant place to have a group meal especially those who might be more vulnerable or have mobility difficulties. Thank you.

My mum and I often come to the Nelson. The staff are amazing, particularly Clare and Abbi and the very friendly waitress whose name I didn’t catch. Food is lovely and good value and they always check in to make sure the meal is ok. Thoroughly recommend!

Food ok,my partner wanted a vegan meal,of which she had,there should me a separate menu for vegans,it would be easier.

The service is great. However, Sunday lunch I had on November 12 was disappointing. The carvery was less than average. I had the gammon which was a small portion although cooked ok. Yorkshire pudding was cold. All the vegetables were cold. Roast potatoes were coated in something I have not tasted before. Cauliflower cheese were tiny florets with tasteless cheese sauce. Gravy a little greasy also cold. I have Sunday carvery at other Brewers Faye restaurants that were better cooked than the Old Nelson. I suggest to take a look at the produce served before ordering. Just to add the food is better described as lukewarm.

The food seem an alright quality. Bit of a mix up with our food and drinks. All got sorted, but everyone ate at a different time. No apologies. Overall an ok experience

Me and mum went to the Nelson this evening, staff member Anna was very accommodating and sat us down in an area we wanted. She also ensured our meals came out to us in a timely manner, very polite, thanks Anna !

Went for lunch today 01/11/2023 with a group of 6 others. First time for a while because the last time I went, well over a year ago, the meals and whole demeanour of the place were really poor. I don't ever expect too much of a place like this serving cheaply-priced "trad" grub, but thought the quality of the food had improved slightly - my order of a main course (all I had) was palatable (chicken & ham pie), hot and filling but probably not very nourishing! We all thought the peas were undercooked. The decor needs updating and many of the tables and chairs replacing - it's shabby without the chic!
