Old Mother Hubbards in Oldham

Customer service is very poor. Waiting long time. Fish is not full it's half fish.chips is oile. Food is not good . Never going again.

First time we've been, was recommended to try it. Had the £9.95 x large fish and chips and it is well worth ìt, if you've not been you need to try it.

I have heard so much about this place. I finally went to try the famous fish and chips. The fish was gorgeous! White, thick, meaty, and lightly covered in batter The chips were not nice at all. They were quite hard with a lot of dark patchy discolouration. I assume from the potatoes being old, although I'm not sure if that was the reason. The gravy looked nice, being that it was dark and thick, like grandma's, unfortunately, it was disappointingly tasteless. I would go again and just order the fish, perhaps with peas. We were the only people in there initially, but when people started coming in, we couldn't wait to leave. The reason for this is that the flooring is not compatible with the chairs, and every time somebody pushed their chairs, it made an horrendous sound worse than 2 cats fighting. Overall, nice fish.

Excellent food but customer service is not good orders. Either something from the order is missing or they have give something I didn't want and still charging. No problems during the day but the night service leaves a lot to be desired. Not going again as I've must have lost about or over a £10 😡

I was just passing and called in for a bag of chips, wasn't hungry enough for the works. £2.45 for chips was a bit more than I was expecting and although there were 3 people serving, 1 cook and 1 other it took 5+ minutes to get my food. The box, not bag, of chips was large and the chips were piping hot. They were just fantastic - cooked to perfection, best I have had in many years and well worth the wait. There was so many chips (and few scrag ends) that I couldn't eat them all. Will definitely call next time I'm passing.

The food was Not good and The chips and curry had too kuchen sauce .The chips were undercooked .They charged us for straws and The cardboard plates . I do not recommend nd going there especially with kids.

Got a take away , really fancied chippy , it was awful . I had potato scallop muffin , good job I’ve not got a fish allergy because it tasted of fish .. obviously fried in same oil .. . mouth just tastes of grease and fish .. wouldn’t order from here again ..

They can't even cook chips properly. You get a lovely variety of under cooked chips, over cooked chips, and chips fit for the bin. We will find elsewhere from now on.

Always love getting a homemade cheese and onion pie 🥧 😋 and also the fish and chips portions are always generous too. Staff are welcoming and helpful and its nice having a sit in to eat your food too x

Been in Oldham many years . Taken over by a Asan family who have changed it into the best chip shop in the area. Food always spot on , huge portions but quality . Serving staff very friendly . Delivery spot on too just one criticism should have the bag sealed concerned can be tampered with by driver ! Food as always very good

The worse mother Hubbards I have been to. 16 minute wait in drive thru. Fish was over cooked. The batter was actually dark chocolate brown. Let down.

Ordered takeaway quite regularly from here (didn't realise they're not affiliated with Mother Hubbard's), the chips are always perfect and the spicy fish bites are also perfect, they're the best chippy round Oldham area, excellent portions as well.

I recently had the opportunity to dine at Mother Hubbard's Fish and Chips, located just outside of Oldham town, and wanted to share my experience. One of the highlights of this establishment is the quality of their fish and chips. The fish had a crispy and flavorful battered coating, and the portions were generous. This would make ordering more convenient and provide more choices for customers. To sum it up, my personal experience at Mother Hubbard's Fish and Chips was positive. The fish and chips were of good quality, the sausage option was excellent, and the staff members were friendly. Although there are areas for improvement, such as updating the menu and adding a set meal option, I would recommend giving this place a try if you're in the area and craving some classic fish and chips.

First time at Mother Hubbards even though I've wanted to go for a very long time. Came here with my family, ordered the normal fish and chips. Portion size was really good for what you pay. The fish batter was crispy, just how I like it. I'm not a big fan of curry sauce, but I do like to try different ones. The curry sauce from here tasted too much of cardamom, so I wasn't keen. Place had an adequate amount of seating. A couple of little complaints, the server did mess up our order, but it was easily rectified, and everyone was happy. Also £1.20 for a can is a bit extortionate. But we would definitely go again, especially when we're craving fish and chips.

The fish is to die for although the chips can be soggy sometimes. Lots of parking, toilet and also a drive through.

Ordered fish on its own and chips plus breaded burger told them to have fish slightly well done & chips fish came cold chips were burnt like the left overs from each batch plus burger was half cooked, guy who I spoke to was very rude I am regular but I am telling you the standards have fallen so next time won't be ordering

chips soggy undercooked to much oil

Unfortunately tuned up soon after opening so the the did was not great. The chips were under cooked and oily and the fish was oily and batter too soft. I believe that after removing from the fryer had the fish and chips been allowed time under the drip trays or heat lamps areas then it would have benefited. Sometimes trying to serve someone just for the sake of getting them served does not work. Food quality matters. Will update on next visit when I work in Oldham.

A good takeaway, varied menu,eat in available

As a Fish & Chips establishment, the food was very nice. Having said that, it's on the same level as the local chippy I frequent. There are a few unique items on the menu like Spicy Fish Bites and their selection of burgers, but nothing too out of the ordinary. The Spicy Fish Bites consisted of decent sized chunks of Fish with Chaat Masala thrown on top. I personally wouldn't class them as spicy as I'm very fond of truly spicy food. The Cheese Burger didn't taste like a traditional burger due to the odd decision of using Tartar sauce, rather than ketchup/mayonnaise/burger sauce. Tartar sauce has quite a strong flavour and it was overwhelming in the burger, resulting in us not being able to taste the meat at all. If you're planning on going here, stick to the traditional Fish & Chips.

Love a classic fish and chips.. and you cant go wrong with mother Hubbards desi twists..

Food is always nice, the fish batter is crisp and nicely flavoured. Food is always spot on. If you go during their busy time, you will be in for a wait. On my last visit, felt like they gave less chips.

Absolutely terrible service, ordered food for a specific time was half hour late, food arrived very cold! Spoke to manager and he was absolutely rude!! Then advised me to leave a review knowing that I was not satisfied or happy as a customer! Will not be ordering here again! Poor service

Popped into this Mother Hubbards as we had been to Manchester. The lady who served us was really nice, she acknowledged us and her personality was lovely. The food was lovely and warm. Enjoyed the experience and customer service will pop back again if we visit Manchester again..thank you

We ordered on the website for a order to be delivered. The order arrived when we sat down to eat it was freezing cold. Absolutely disappointed I made the effort to ring and complain thinking they would be understanding and apologetic instead I got a very rude man blaming me that I took too long to eat it that it had gone cold. He said when it left his restaurant it was hot I'm not in the habit of lying.

Had to wait a long time on Friday evening for food. The drive-through queue was not moving , the just eat machine was pinging with orders as well as it being busy with customers in the shop. Food was good though

Absolutely fabulous. We traveled from Shropshire this morning to see my elderly mother who suggested a chippy dinner. Seeing the menu I decided on the Jumbo Fish and Chips and wow. The three of us are full up and half is coming back to Shropshire. Thanks.

We walked in to order, and when we got home, some of our items were missing. We telephoned to be told that we were out of delivery range and that we would need to come back to pick it up. I asked for a refund and was told they couldn't do it and had to wait until evening when the manager was in, and they said he would call back. Needless to say, that never happened! What a con!! Happy to take my money but not to refund for food they acknowledged I didn't receive. Food ordered was for 4 people. Customer service is terrible.

The fish and chips from here are really good. We get the sharer. The fish is gigantic and plenty of chips. The two of us can't finish it. Good value.

Updates are provided below. It saddens me to say, that this place is now so hit and miss, more often than not the chips are not of great quality, and again today the fish although freshly cooked was absolutely soaking in oil and really not edible. Clearly the oil that the fish is being cooked in is not a high enough temperature. I will from now on be taking myself elsewhere for my fish and chip fix ! Update 7th of April 2023, much better food today but I wish that they would invest in some new extraction systems for the kitchen. Every Time you sit in to eat you end up going home stinking like you have sat in the fryer yourself !!!! 4th of July 2023 bad food again ! The fish was not pleasant at all, it smelled fishy and believe me fresh fish fillets do not smell fishy at all. Downgraded to 1 star again ! 1st of September 2023 I decided as I was in the area to give this place one last try, and yet again the fish and chips were awful. The fish had a really bad fishy smell which indicates it's not fresh, it was soaking in oil as well. The chips had clearly been refried as they were all over cooked. And the eat in part was absolutely filthy with food up the walls and unclean tables ! This is the last time I will visit for sure. So sad as it used to be really good.

excellent place to eat, food is always good, just a little slow on the order side, always takes longer than time stated but wouldn't stop eating from here.

Avoid drive-through, waiting time horrendously slow. Your best off parking and walking in you get served quicker. Very incompetent service. You just feel ignored.

The best fish and chips I have ever tried till this day. The fish was crispy and chips were delicious and i absolutely loved the gravy.

I went there It was absolutely horrible it seems the fish coating was too crispy and the facilities was not good tables had hair on them and were a little too oily

Apart from the 30 min wait, the food was really good. The fish was soft and flaky on the inside and the batter crunchy. Chips were very nice - just right. Chicken and mushroom pie was cold unfortunately so don't have much else to say. Decor needs refreshing for those eating in.

Got a fish and chips around evening just after work. Was not disappointed as chips were fresh,fish was a large portion which I loved. More so their batter was crispy and fish was moist and flaky. Will definitely come back.

I don't know what to say. Honestly these guys are next level. I had a special last night the fish was the size of a whale lol apparently they do 1 bigger than that.Dont know how they manage to get it perfect everyone I go. Service aswell the owner really takes pride in his business looks after his customers i went 10 minutes before closing time still i got my food with a smile and thank you . People like this deserve everything and more. Awesome. Dined in today 08/07/2023 10/10 awsome. Food delicious came quicker than expected. The nodded and put a fish on before young lady took my order. Young lady working 3 sections the drive through, inside seated customers also take away customers. All there staff were just the best.

Review based on visiting the new shop opened in Nelson Lancashire I would give zero if allowed. Ordered fish and chips for a family of 7 so spent well over £70. The overall quality is very poor. Chips very poor, they were cold and tasted of poor quality potatoes. Fish decent portion however the batter too crispy for me and too much batter to fish ratio. Curry sauce was decent. The portion sizes are very generous however we binned a lot of food due to the poor quality and this is annoying considering the price we paid. I would suggest avoid Old Mother Hubbards and instead go to Holts chippy on Scotland Road which is far superior chippy!!!

We thought we'll go and see what the big hoo haa was all about. Fish was excellent but chips were average at best. Portions are big and it's little on the pricey side. We asked for some spare trays to take the rest of our food home but the Asian guy behind counter wanted to charge us £1 a spare tray!!!😡 Probably may come again but not anytime soon. Staff behind counter were generally very helpful.

Ordered large fish and chips, side of curry sauce and childs chicken nuggets and chips. It cost £15. We ended up throwing most of it in the bin. All the chips were bad. The potatoes were obviously out of date. Really disappointed

Went to old mother Hubbards in Barnsley few weeks ago so was excited when I realised there was one in Oldham few miles from me so thought I'd give it a try unfortunately the standard was night and day even tho staff was freindly and service was OK was disappointed in the quality of the food and the menu was very basic compared to the other one. Eat inside felt cold, basic and tired there we're also chips on the floor where we sat wouldn't rush back.

Service was slow.. this was mostly due to them being busy. Food is always fresh... and decent size fish. No time for the pictures to be taken would always recommend. Get the jumbo deal.

Never order delivery or anything from here. Asked us to delay our order which we did. Even then they were still late. Don't waste your time

Drive through is convenient but takes so long. It's quicker to go somewhere else, park up, and go in and order.

Ive ordered delivery a number of times now and they have never let me down. Food has been delicious, there's plenty of it and its always hot when it arrives. Highly recommended if you fancy a really tasty chippy tea

Really nice fish and chips, good sized portions and really nice sausage! This place is really good. Upgraded to 5 stars! Regularly now order via justeat and always massively impressed. Lovely chips (crisp and fluffy)!made from good quality potatoes, always a beautiful fish covered in lovely batter. Gravy and mushy peas also very nice. Highly recommended and I order from all over Oldham!
