Posticino familiare in piena campagna. Scones consigliati!!!

Found this gem of a place whilst out driving and exploring the area. The cakes were superb. I love scones and my raspberry scone was up there with best I’ve tasted. Other cakes were the millionaire shortbread and slice of lemon cake and these were rated 10/10 also. Lovely latte too. Staff were friendly with great service. Brilliant find. Will definitely visit again when in that area of the country.

Nothing happened. Sitting for quite some time with a clear view of the kitchen,we ended up asking one of the staff members if they had started making our simple order. After they said they hadn’t, we told them we were leaving as we didn’t want to put them to any trouble. There were only 3 tables filled, they weren’t busy and the staff obviously didn’t feel it, as there was a lot of chat between them.

The food was delicious and the service was lovey. We sat next to the coal fire and the atmosphere was evocative. The menu is limited but the cakes were clearly homemade and looked lovely. I had the chocolate cake slice which was great. The bacon sandwich and hot soup was the ideal brunch on a cold day before setting off for a walk down to the Tweed.

This cafe, bookshop and antique shop is off the beaten track. The staff are friendly and helpful. The cafe is quaint and stocks a small selection of cakes. There was good compliance with Covid restrictions. The highlight was the bookshop which stocked a good range of unusual books and CDs, especially classical music. They were reasonably priced.

The walk was good until just after the new pond, then for just under half a mile it was completely overgrown and children would definitely not been able to walk through it. Surely if the walks are signposted they could at least be strimmed back to allow walkers through. It’s a shame as it used to be a lovely walk

We were really looking forward to our visit to the venue and had travelled for an hour and a half specifically to eat there. However whilst the staff were pleasant the service was slow and the food was disappointing. My ham sandwich consisted of two slices of brown bread that were thin and obviously from a mass produced product and one cherry tomato sliced and plonked on top of the one slice of ham. The side salad did not even have a dressing on. At £5.75 for said sandwich I felt very let down. The millionaire shortbread was fine but not particularly exciting. The walks were pleasant but not enough to encourage us the visit again.I did this this place was good value. V

I visited with my partner and parents, I was quite excited to go after seeing reviews and photos of the food. It’s in a beautiful location, there’s no denying that, the views are amazing and the walks were well sign posted. The antique and bookshop were a bit dated, dusty and some items overpriced, but I thought that was pretty standard and there were a few items I would have paid what they were asking for if I had been there to shop and I could forgive the prices. The food and service I can’t forgive. We were there on a Sunday, two young girls serving and i don’t think they were able to cope with the six tables they had to serve and should definitely not be left to run the tea shop by themselves! They were very pleasant just not able to organise themselves, we waited over half an hour for three cheese and one ham sandwich, then after a walk we waited 20 minutes for four teas and we were the only table. The food was VERY basic and very overpriced! For nearly £6 I expected a few crisps on the plate, not just supermarket bread with a slice of ham and lettuce. The soup wasn’t ready which was disappointing since they had been open since 11 and by 12:30 you would expect lunch food to be ready. The caramel slice was lovely, just again a bit overpriced. I would go back for the walks and would get tea and cake only because it’s polite to buy something if you’re using the car park, definitely do not recommend.

Wowzers, what a place, and time to be alive! Okay maybe a little over the top however don't let my eccentric vocabulary down play the tearooms charm and grace. The service by the young waitress was exquisite, with her being polite, helpful and talkative. Not to mention how yummy the food was, the toasties being especially tasty.

Old Melrose is a hidden away little gem. Down a long narrow road but well worth the effort - lovely old stone buildings with a cottagey farm buildings feel. It's not far from the Tweed, with great short walks and views nearby. You can sit indoors or out - both are 'bracing' these days because inside is very well ventilated - and rightly so. Delicious soup, panini, rolls etc, and excellent carrot cake and coffee. Efficient service and sensible prices. Recommended.

Not too easy too find but a lovely location in the grounds of the old estate. We visited at lunchtime and whilst it was cold wet and miserable outside, it was warm cosy and friendly inside. The menu seems rather limited, but the BLT was delicious and the Ploughmans was also great (my wife’s choice). The coffee was very good though only milk and no cream. Reasonably priced. The cakes were OK.The antiques shop and books are well worth a visit.

Fab antique shop, gifts and books. Beautiful little coffee shop with most old features still intact but - freezing cold, ok but cool reception from staff, the worst latte I've ever had ( left it ), coffee and walnut cake um fresh yes, home made yes, walnut yes but coffee NO. Cake could have been any flavour but it wasn't coffee and icing was just sweet so, thank goodness for the walnuts. Myself and one other couple were the only customers yet the lady serving didn't even cone to ask how everything was? wouldn't take much for this to be the most amazing little gem.

There is only the sign almost at the entance road to alert you to the fact that this wee gem exists at all. When you turn off the main road you could be mistaken for thinking you have made a mistake as you find yourself on a single track road apparently heading deep into the countryside. But what a treat awaits! A little centre with a cute cafe selling lovely meals, delicious cakes and "to die for" scones. After you have sated your appetite with whatever you fancied, served by a gloriously pleasant and friendly member of the cafe staff you can either pop upstairs to browse the quaint bookshop like an old fashioned library or go into one of several buildings which store antiques and curios of all descriptions which are all for sale. Now this really IS a blast from the past and I was instantly transported back to the homes of my grandparents and elderly neighbours with memories flooding back of all sorts of things which I had simply forgotten with the passage of time. Old fashioned griddles, jam and jelly pans all reminding me of the smell of food being cooked on blackened ranges. Classic wall lights, ornate ceiling lights that would have adorned homes with beautiful ceiling plasterwork, 1950s ceramics. I spent the lovliest hour here just recalling things and people from my earlier life and left with a contented smile on my face. Dont drive by! Stop off and be enchanted. ( The prices for everything were really good to!)

I cannot recommend this place enough and I never knew it existed till my dad read up about it. The lady who served us in the tearoom was so friendly and helpful and makes the best scones EVER!!! The atmosphere in the tearoom is very cosy and welcoming. I also recommend the hot chocolate (with the works) which had marshmallows melting underneath cream, just perfect. I can't wait till I can try one of their meals next time I visit. Make sure to have a walk around the nearby forest and crop field before taking a visit to the cafe as you have to earn your treats ;) Really stunning views as well of the river Tweed, it looked very silvery on the day we visited. If you go around the quirky bookshop and antique shop don't hesitate to ask the staff in the cafe for assistance. Also as it's just a small tea room they often only have 1 or 2 members of staff in the kitchen so don't be impatient if you don't get your food straightaway. We were actually served very quickly for the amount of people who were in. The lady who served us makes all the cakes too so everything is homemade and freshly baked on the day. I cannot wait till our next visit to the borders so we can drop in for a cup of tea and maybe have one of those plain scones again (not many places do plain scones do they). Thank you for a lovely and pleasant experience.

Some friends who live close to the tea room had raved about this place for months. So we finally visited last weekend and my goodness what a treat it was. The weather was lovely so we got to sit outdoors as we enjoyed the selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones that were served with a good cup of tea. More than enough to eat. Staff were very friendly and cheerful. Also great exploring the craft and sale rooms and book store. Will be back for sure.

An interesting space to spend some time - especially if you like books. There are antiques for sale, craft rooms and it's just full of lovely wee spaces. Café has gluten free brownies - delicious. Decaf coffee is very good too. There are organised walks available too. Very friendly and efficient staff.

Popped in late yesterday in the rain and enjoyed coffee and a superb chocolate orange cup cake (with a Terry's chocolate orange segment on top). Very pleasant girl served us and surroundings were cosy and comfy.

My sister and I chanced on this tea rooms by accident. We were made to feel really welcome. There was a real fire burning giving a cosy feel. We thoroughly enjoyed our welsh rarebit followed by the most tasty banana, walnut and chocolate cake. Will definitely be back.

We detoured on our SCW walk and ended up in this delightful cafe seemingly in the middle of nowhere!! Wonderful coffee and yummy cakes to die for. The adjacent buildings have all sorts of rustic antiques for sale and we would have liked to linger longer but had to press on to get to our accommodation before nightfall

Looks like a lovely little place, books, antiques and a tea room. I received a dirty cup and asked for another which was slammed down on to the table. The scone I had ordered was quite dry so couldn't eat it. May have called on a bad day as most of the reviews are pleasant.

The tea room serves delicious cakes and the atmosphere of the bookshop is very cozy. There are also two walks around the area. We did the riverside one and it was beautiful. Also saw a deer skip right across our paths.

We found this place by chance, as its not in a completely obvious location -but we were glad we did! After a drive through a country estate you come upon some outbuildings, which house a vintage shop, an antique shop and a little cottage that is the tearoom. Upstairs in the tearoom is a bookshop. There is a wood burning range in one of the rooms which was roaring away when we arrived and was really cosy. The staff are lovely and the food fabulous, they have wonderful homebaking and great soups / toasties etc. A great little find, would recommend popping in if you are heading down to the Borders.

This place is a little off the beaten track but well worth the effort of finding. A bookshop, antique emporium and a cafe all rolled into one so what's not to like? The fact that the cakes and coffee are amazing and the two girls who run it are so friendly was the cherry on top.

This little gem of a place is a quaint nook to sit by the fire and enjoy a great coffee while reading one of the great value second hand books you have purchased up the stair.Home made scones, light lunches (gluten free options available) and home made soup...yum. The teashop resides within an old dairy which lies on the neck of a little promontory in a loop of the River Tweed. This compact area has a tremendous depth of history: St Cuthbert, St Aidan and St Boisil all coming from the Dark Age monastic site. The history (explained in detail in the little summerhouse) gives the the woodland walk a very atmospheric appeal. Once you have taken yourself round the walk and inspected the antique and vintage shop (very reasonable prices) you can finish back up at the tearoom with a freshly brewed coffee.

This my favourite place in the Borders for hiding away with a book, a delicious Cappuccino and a great choice of home made cakes or scones. Never fails to please. They stock a wide range of speciality teas and always offer a great choice of tempting panini or toastie fillings. The antique, craft and book shops are a bonus and always worth a browse. The addition last year of a large collection of hens & ducks means great entertainment for the younger children and fresh eggs available to buy. A lovely spot any time of year - love it when the open fire is lit.

I have been to Old Melrose tea room on many occasions and never fail to enjoy my visit. I have to say the best bit for me is the location and unspoilt character of the old stables and cottages. The interior has not been mucked up and feels very homely almost like a private home from the last century. The cakes on offer are very good and if the weather allows it is very pleasant sitting on the outside terrace. Do try the several walks which start from here (you can pick up an excellent walking map in the café) One of my favourites is the relative short walk to the Old Melrose summer house perched above the magnificent Tweed. It has lots of information inside about the history of the original abbey which was sited here before re-locating to Melrose. A longer walk will take you to S t. Boswells and beyond. The lovely road back to the A68 has one of my all time favourite views--towards the Eildon Hills.

I don't think we should say just how good this hidden gem is as we would like to keep it a secret, it really is so special. The drive in alone is spectacular but on arrival the food ( home baking) is brill. The shop is full of delightful items at a reasonable cost.

Despite some negative reviews, we loved it here. We were warmly welcomed as soon as we walked in and were served quickly and efficiently. The menu isn’t extensive but I don’t find that a problem. What we had was very nice. Very clean and a lovely atmosphere, where locals clearly come on a regular basis. Would recommend.

Had been looking forward to my visit made specifically to try this place out. Noone else in except the numerous staff all talking away happily to each other. After looking at menu which looked fabulous I went up to order as none of staff looked vaguely interested in taking my order. No sit down we will come to you. I sat and waited and the place started to fill. 3 other tables came in and someone came from behind the counter to clear dirty dishes that had been on a table when I went in. Finally someone came to serve me and I commented on my wait to which I was given a story about the coffee machine not working which was why staff were chatting. Hmmmmn really. Then as of course luck would have it they were out of the very thing I was there to have. I will give them another chance another day as the menu was interesting but the service was shockingly bad especially if they then are having to tell people no coffee! Zero recognition of interaction with customers and I speak as someone with a long hospitality career. Great location great menu but lacking in customer connection.

What a great find! Everything homemade and absolutely delicious. Very pleasant welcoming staff and just wish we lived closer as we would make it a regular place to eat.
