Lovely lunch, friendly efficient staff

Impromptu Sunday lunch, booked day beforehand. Plenty of options for when we would like to eat. Parking was limited when we arrived with only one disabled space. Welcoming staff upon arrival, with chance to sit before being asked for a drink order... refreshing change. Good selection of food, and 2 of us opted for the Sunday lunch, and one had scampi and chips. Plenty of food was delivered and it was delicious. The only bad point was no glasses of Sharaz available, so we were offered a bottle, which we had. Desserts came with a hoid choice, and the Banoffee pie was to die for. We had to wait a while for the bill and we were not offered any teas or coffee. The shock came when we saw the bill and the wine was £35 a bottle. Granted, we did take the remaining home and we would have anyway at that price. This slightly marred what had been a wonderful lunch. Next time it will be a glass of house red!!!

Fantastic Sunday lunch in a beautiful garden

We love popping in here on our date nights to play some board games, it's such a relaxing atmosphere. The staff are really lovely and always very accommodating. The food is great and there is plenty of room and comfortable seating.

Rooms are immaculate with shower room, Just on the small side . Great food and service , with a fabulous location.

The food here is really good and the beer garden lovely. Some of the younger bar staff are a bit on the slow side and a bit too fond of standing around the bar chatting but genuinely nice people and you can't beat the location.

Great value hotel with super friendly and helpful staff. We sampled breakfast, lunch and dinner, all first class with an emphasis on locally sourced produce.

1 disabled bay BUT no disabled facilies. Although a very old pub, beautiful garden, I cannot comment inside as I never made in that far! Lovely views.

Not much parking for a big event but lovely country surrounding. Food and drink looked good. Was at a wake so didn't have a meal. Coffee was excellent

What a beautiful place to stay at absolutely perfect! We had a very warm welcome and had the pleasure to meet John and his super friendly fantastic team, including Red, a Rhodesian Ridgeback ( very handsome boy 😍) who made friends with the kids straight away and kissed my son all over 😄. The place is lovely and peaceful, the food is excellent, the garden is gorgeous! John, Louise and sweet Linda made sure that we have a relaxing stay. The kids never really wanted to leave 😊. We couldn’t have wished for better place to stay in.

Had a Sunday roast today, excellent service and excellent food.

We chose to stay here for a funeral we had to attend in the local area. The owners and staff could not have been more helpful, friendly or welcoming. We arrived late due to traffic and even though the kitchen had closed earlier in the evening we were offered food. The owner came and introduced himself and sat and chatted with us which was lovely. The room we stayed in was spotless, super comfortable and had lovely views. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and plentiful. We could not have asked for a better stay and we will be booking to stay again shortly.

Hidden amongst a hillside and woodland is this beautiful thatched pub . The service was great with good portions of food and tasty too . I would definitely recommend as a stopover or evening out . They had a massive selection of gins too , bonus😊

Clean, convenient and congenial after a visit to Whipsnade. Hearty portions of food and fruity Inch’s cider.

The friendliest pub in the area. John, the owner, will come to every table and personally greet every guest that comes through. It's so refreshing to have such a personal touch regarding customer service. I would recommend the steak pie (the mash is also incredible). We will be back!

Met friends for lunch .I Had the steak and ale pie and it was excellent. All the meals were good. Good food,great location. My American friend loved the thatched roof ,as well. Didn't stay over as live locally.

A very good place to explore Dunstable Downs and Whipsnade Zoo. The owners John and Louise are friendly and accommodating. Beautiful and restful pace. Would recommend for walks and a short break. Good food and service.

Had lunch with the family and can say that the service, quality of food, portion size and choice was excellent. The lemon sole was some of the best I have ever had. While all the other dishes, calamari, plough mans, whitebait and kids meals we top quality and excellent value. I recommend the Old Hunters Lodge to everyone.

I'm visiting friends who live in Dunstable, I'm from South Shields in the North East. Anyway we popped in for a drink and sat down, only to find a group of families letting their children be very unruly so we chose to move seats. The staff were amazing. They saw how uncomfortable we were and apologised profusely to which I assured them it was not their fault. These families were politely asked 3 times by the lovely staff to ask them to stop their children climbing on the furniture and running around. Each time of asking was ignored, but the staff were very professional and kept apologising to us. There really was no need to apologise to us but equally there was no need for these lovely staff to have to keep asking these families to control their children, moreso for health and safety reasons but also out of respect for other guests in the pub. Bravo you lovely people I'll certainly be coming back again as you looked after is so well.

Went for a pub dinner here and was pleasantly surprised. Simple fare and reasonably priced. Serves pub classics and decent portions sizes. The food was simple but good.

Just visited the restaurant tonight and very impressed, excellent food and service and very good value for money, friendly staff who were very welcoming, completely refurbished from last time I was there, will definitely go again

Afternoon at the zoo, zoo stopped serving food at a strange time so we found this pub and was excellent for what we needed. Good food, good service and about 5 mins from the zoo. I’m amazed they weren’t packed full of after zoo visitors!

This review is about the kindness of staff at this restaurant. My wife and I had a meal here a few days ago during a very busy day. When we eventually returned home my wife discovered she had lost her purse. Alter exhaustive searching we decided it must be lost forever an started cancelling cards. Four days later there was a knock on the front door and a very kind man from the Hunters Arms was returning my wife’s purse. They had found it but they expected us to return, when we did not they took the trouble to find our address and drive approximately 15 miles to return it, refusing any offer of compensation for petrol or time taken. I think this is a fine example of the people running this organisation and there attitude to there customers. Cannot thank them enough !

There has been a huge renovation here providing much improved facilities.

Roast dinner was amazing and so was the service.

We had Sunday lunch for mu mother-in-laws 80th birthday and both the food and service were outstanding.

Only been to the restaurant here but the staff are lovely, food is great and the setting is idilic ! Highly recommended

Arrived at 6.30pm as booked table for this time. Was told once we got there that kitchen was closing at 7pm so we had to get our orders in quickly. Felt very rushed all the way through the meal, waitresses kept coming to the table during the meal trying to clear the table when we were not even finished. Also were made to feel like they wanted us out the door asap by 8.30pm we had left and door was locked behind us. This is no way to treat paying customers and especially when you call up to book a table for 6.30pm you should be informed beforehand that the kitchen will be closing at 7pm. One of the party members travelled all the way from Leicester just for this meal that lasted literally an hour and a half.

Went to Hunters Lodge. Booked a table for 6:30pm, but was not informed when the booking was taken, that they stopped serving food at 7pm. Due to this, our evening was rushed. This did spoil our night, even more so, for our friend that travelled from Leicester. The positive about the evening was that the food was lovely and the service, good.

Visit was on the 1st March 2024 after a wet visit to Whipsnade. I called the venue prior to the visit to enquire about booking, child friendly etc. Really comfortable and welcoming establishment. Nice friendly staff and the food was inbetween great pub grub and restaurant standard. The portion sizes were also very generous, the food was fresh and not the usual microwave stuff. Well worth a visit.

Lovely pub and dining area. Advisable to book in advance. We were lucky they managed to make space for us. We stopped in after visiting the zoo. Kids menu had a good selection and the our children enjoyed their food. Sausage and chips with a good side of salad (cucumber peppers etc) Adults had the streak and ale pie - tasted great and amazing value for money. Flaky pastry and a very well filled pie. Defiantly worth a visit. Beer was crisp so tells me popes were clean. Service was amazing. Very attentive and engaged the kids so made them feel part of the experience. Great decor and a lovely fireplace gave it a very cosy vibe. Forgot to take pics but will update when I visit again.

Good food and service and go there again for a meal

Great location for a country pub, just round the corner from the zoo. Friendly service with good coffee. Didn’t stay to eat but was very tempted when I saw other customers food.

Wow. What a find. 10 mins from Whipsnade zoo. Lovely rooms, great food and amazing staff who were exceptional. The landlord, John, was very welcoming. Highly recommended.

A first visit after passing many times; should have stopped before. Good food, and a welcoming atmosphere, in a beautiful location.

Was there with a party of 14 on the 16th December, the Lasagne was lovely, others had Steak, everyone enjoyed their meal, service was spot on, we all were served quickly, reasonably priced, will be going back.

Had a very nice meal here with family and friends. Good selection of food, which was all very tasty and arrived in good time. Good selection of drinks available with very friendly staff. The sticky toffee pudding was slightly burnt underneath and would of been nice to have had a vegan friendly ice cream, but wouldn't put me off coming again

Had an excellent Sunday lunch with friends in October so booked Christmas eve lunch for 5 But All of us were disappointed with the meal 2x vegetarian had No taste and covered in gravy 😢 the turkey x3 was thin with no taste don't know if they had a change of kitchen staff but would have appreciated information before hand

Don't get me wrong the place is very nice..but everything is lacking. There just isn't any consistency. Who puts young children next to a table of Xmas party goers, at 10pm at night. Sorry bad planning.

Beautiful Sunday Roast today worth going to.

We went for my mum's birthday. The menu choices were excellent and really well cooked and presented. Value really good and the staff excellent. Probs about 43 years since I was last there, I might have to up the average if I'm gonna make it back.!

It’s has a lovely fireplace with thatched roof gives you a feel of a very old pace . Lovely garden in place . The food and drinks are great we had gone for lunch . Service is great too

Food was good. A little chilly, but the did have extra heaters. A large party, tables pushed together, but quite squashed... But it did warm us up!

Had the Beef, however not off a joint so not so good, lacking in atmosphere albeit the place is Beaufiful.

The waitresses were not very friendly which dampened the occasion somewhat but I can't fault the food which was cooked perfectly and we were all served at the same time. There was very little food for people with wheat and gluten tolerances which was disappointing. The portions were huge but they supplied hygienic containers, when asked, so that we could take the remainders away

Visited yesterday for a family birthday. I am disappointed to say that the service was absolutely shocking, numerous requests to the waitress for drinks orders to be taken but to be rudely told she was busy so many of us had to go to the bar to order, half the desserts were finished before the rest of us received ours. One of the chocolate brownies was just a runny goo (the others were lovely) and when mentioned to the waitress, she was very argumentative and told us “that’s just what happens when they are microwaved” - interesting that this didn’t happen to the other ones… The same waitress was extremely rude to an elderly member of the family by insisting something was stated on the menu, which in actual fact was not. Food on the whole was tasty, as usual, but the appalling attitude from the waitress and slow service really let the place down.

Held our wedding reception here and had the most amazing day excellent food and service great value for money

I recently stayed at this great establishment with my wife and parents. From start to finish the owners and staff could not be more accommodating. The food was terrific and it was great to see that they were getting into the Halloween spirit! I would highly recommend this place to anyone 👍🏼
