Old George @ Heritage ltd. in Kirklees

I’ve been coming here for years on and off, but not visited for a while. Today I Called in for a coffee, but it was burnt and tasted completely different to the previous “Foundation” coffee. £3 for a burnt coffee is a bit disappointing. I’m guessing it’s under new management. The Staff were friendly enough and service was quick.

We’ve been coming to the George for a number of years and it has always been excellent. We visited today for the new menu and the whole visit was disappointing. They’ve taken several items from the menu, including the Nutella pancakes which were always a favourite. The breakfast sandwich was much smaller than usual and my partner left hungry. The food took a while to come out and due to no pancakes, we ordered the children’s portion of them. The pancakes were chewy and it was overall terrible for £5 but we ate them due to still being hungry. The new manager was also quite rude and seemed snappy with his staff and the atmosphere felt tense. If you’re vegan and don’t want a full breakfast or granola then there isn’t much on the menu anymore either. The original staff remain lovely but overall it was poor experience in a usually fabulous place. Edit: the owner has replied to my reviews on here and Trip advisor- obviously unable to handle any feedback at all and accused me on targeting them across multiple social media sites which is untrue. Very unprofessional responses so I wouldn’t bother raising anything whilst there! Also states that we made staff feel uncomfortable when we sat outside and waited, paid online and didn’t directly complain about food.

The Old George holds the title of the best full breakfast I've ever tried. Great coffee too. Very spacious cafe, beautiful decor, great staff and dog friendly.

Lovely chilled atmosphere...food was lovely. My daughter ordered the kids nutella pancakes but we didnt realise they didnt come with strawberries like the adult ones. I asked the man who brought them to us if they were missing and he came back with a little bowl of strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and sliced banana for her free of charge...i thought this was a lovely thing for him to do as it was us that hadnt noticed they didnt come with. Would defo return.

I have visited Old George a few times now and the experience has always been lovely. The coffee is good, the food is nice, and the atmosphere is peaceful and friendly. It's a good place for friends to meet and chat - sometimes coffee shops can be too crowded and loud for this. But Old George has got a wonderful balance here ✨

We arrived today this afternoon, with my daughter. It was very busy , we tried to look for a table or to be greeted as to where to go ? Stood around ? Someone was leaving so went to sit down , asked for the table to be wiped, after a while nothing explained about the menu so waited then waited, I got up and went over to ask do we come to the counter to order? They said we come over , a shame it took so long , but the food was lovley when it came , just lacking in customer service.

Three of us had brunch today Halloum and poached eggs Veggie breakfast Peanut butter on toast 😋 Lovely food ,lovely staff,lovely cafe👌

Lovely, varied menu. Relaxed atmosphere, good service, delicious food. Just enjoyed the halloumi toast and could not fault it. Yummy!

Great place for breakfast or lunch, with super friendly staff throughout!!! Coffees are probably the best I've had in the area! The smashed avo on toast and the flatbreads are incredible!!!

First visit. Absolutely first class food and service. Being dog friendly was an added bonus. I’m not from the area but will visit again and would unreservedly recommend this cafe.

Had a brunch with 5 friends and everything about the experience was first class, the staff were attentive but not intrusive, the food was exceptional and the place is just a wonderful oasis. Would definitely recommend.

The Old George is one of our favourite places to eat and drink coffee. The food is incredible and coffee just as good. The staff are all friendly. Our dog loves the doggy sausages he gets too. Would 100% recommend.

This was my first visit to the Old George. I was pleasantly surprised by the lovely setting, the relaxing decor, the friendly staff and the yummy food. Also, I thought the prices were reasonable. I will most definitely return and would highly recommend it for lunch or an afternoon cuppa with friends.

Old George is a fantastic cafe tucked away in the Heritage Exchange (aka Heritage Mills). After climbing a few stairs you’d be surprised to find that this cafe occupies a large space in the building. Seating is plenty, the coffee here is great and the food options are equally good if not better. If you want to explore something different or just want a good coffee, I highly recommend you visit Old George.

Used to be a regular option for us. It's gone downhill. Prices gone uphill. We aren't going to go again I don't think. Dunno why they changed the menu.

Absolute gem of a place, hidden in a large courtyard in Lindley. Gorgeous food, reasonably priced and excellent service.

Really great cafe. The food is always delicious, one of the best vegan breakfasts I’ve had. Fresh orange juice and delicious coffee. The staff are friendly and service is quick. Nicely decorated, clean and a relaxing atmosphere. Great music choices also. Would highly recommend a visit to the Old George

Fantastic food, lovely staff/ owners? The full English breakfast is perfection. This cafe is probably one of the best little cafes in Huddersfield.

We love love love Old George at Heritage Mills! Ever since they opened we have been coming here on little brunch dates or with our little man and every time is a great experience. When we have friends or family visiting from out of town we bring them here knowing it’s great every time. The team are welcoming and friendly, the menu is spot on every time and the coffee (well this is the biggest reason for the shower of love - they know what they are doing)! We also love the tech approach with ordering food and drinks and rewards program for repeat customers is just a great bonus. Special shout out to the Kidlet Pancakes (with a portion of marshmallows) - love from your number one 6 year old fan!

Sausages and tomatoes undercooked on veggie breakfasts. Mushroom soup was utterly disgusting - like watery cement, but bland and tasteless - we didn’t eat it. Gave feedback at the counter as no one came to do a check back, they just apologised and charged us for it. We won’t be returning. Standards have dropped.

Visited Sunday 15/01/23. The interior and decor is beautiful. Stylish, modern and very current - very comfy seating. The staff were lovely and extremely welcoming! The 2 waitresses were very pleasant. The menu is small but has everything on for a typical coffee shop. Breakfast, sandwiches, flatbreads and sweet treats. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty! I ordered a tandoori chicken flatbread, which was served with spiced fries and rainbow slaw, which was priced at £9. Family I was with ordered halloumi flatbread, sausage sandwich and Nutella pancakes. Everybody was very impressed! My niece very much enjoyed her hot chocolate with cream and a flake ❤️ Lovely little place will definitely be visiting again when I’m next in the area. 9/10 all round.

Dog friendly establishment. Puppycino and sausage for the doggy on the menu 🙂 The most elegantly served full English and tasty as well. A pity your equivalent of eggs Benedict doesn't come on anything else than a sourdough but still was good. Thank you.

Great place to meet for brunch and a coffee

Very friendly and helpful staff. The food is always great and to a high standard. Dogs are welcome and even have their own menu which is a bonus. I would highly recommend the Old George whether you're just wanting a coffee and a cake or a full meal, the food/drink is always delicious. The dogs enjoy their sausage and a puppuccino too.

Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Mouth watering selection of cakes. I did have to wait 20 minutes before being served for a drink. The pancakes were delicious, but there was a bit too much syrup for my liking. Overall though a lovely experience and I will return.

Popped up for a breakfast a few times as I live local. The breakfasts are always nice and the place is really relaxed.

Friendly staff, good food and great experience

A short walk from Lindley. We just parked on Plover Road and walked up. Lovely and friendly. Invited us to sit where we liked. We ate a regular breakfast, veggie breakfast and a special Pimms chicken pitta. It was all very tasty. Managed to get a lovely strong coffee, a long black. Finally a proper coffee how I like it shortish and dark. Cake selection was pretty small but the brownie/blondie/cookie stacks selection was great. Check the Facebook page for specials. Only thing is say is it could do with a clean and tidy up outside.

Brilliant. Our first visit and it will definitely not be our last. From the friendly greeting ,through the first coffee, the lunch meal and the bill at the end of the visit it was all first class. The premises are clean, well spaced out and comfortable. I noticed that as soon as a client left their table it was sanitised ready for the next people. The 'restroom' was immaculate a great credit to the business. My thanks to the staff, the five of us varied in age from 'senior's adults to a five year old all enjoyed the visit. Highly recommended.

Fantastic! Visited for Mothers Day and ordered there Sunday lunch. It was brilliant. Really good quality, great service and very reasonable price. Highly recommend this place. 🤓👍

Honestly. Such an amazing and hospitable place. The food is amazing, fresh and always at perfect temperature. But the one thing that makes this business different to the others- the quality and range of brownies they have. Snickers and Caramac being my favourite. Honestly, always a joy to come here. Sunny and the team always make sure you leave with a smile on your face. Thank you for always keeping us happy and ensuring service is always immaculate. Will always be an old George customer.

Good hygiene, friendly environment and people, good place to hangout and lovely food

The food was great. Had a few communication problems with the waitress in regards to vegan and gluten free once it was sorted all was fine. Very busy over lunch.

Poor. Service was really slow. Didn't even seem that busy. Had to go and ask how long food would be after waiting 40 minutes. "5 mins" was the response, like I was waiting for a taxi. All along watching waiting staff propping up their glum faces with their hands because it was that quiet. Food itself was ok but feels more style over substance

Visited with family for brunch. Food was good. Reasonable prices. Good coffee. An issue with a very over cooked poached egg was quickly rectified.

Inaccessible for those with disabilities. No wheelchair access. No standard disability parking. Very short sighted of management especially as the Manor House has all these facilities and only round the corner.

Note: there are quite a few stairs to get into this place due to the actual building (not something they can change). Totally worth the climb if you can do stairs though. Not a complaint. This place was refurbished around a year ago, and has completely improved with the change. The staff are lovely, the food is good and so is the coffee. You can take-away or sit in, and the lunch menu has something for everyone. There can be a bit of a wait sometimes with the food being freshly made, but the staff generally tell you if they're busy, and it is always worth the wait. The smoothies are also worth trying and they do a freshly squeezed orange juice also.

Been excited about this place since it opened and it just keeps getting better & better! Thw interior is beautiful, as is the branding and the attention to detail is second to none. My best friend & I love the mugs and the marble plates! The food is absolutely delicious and the smoothies are a real treat. This is the best place for brunch in Huddersfield - I would definitely recommend!

We stumbled upon this place on a Sunday. It has lovely decor. We were excited to see a local place that looked promising! We were standing around for a couple of minutes thinking we'd get seated. Several staff walked by and ignored us so we just took a seat. Again assuming it was table service we waited at the table for a bit, once again we were ignored. The restaurant was not busy. We went to the counter to order food and were told 'oh you just order here'. Would have been nice if someone in 'service' had the common courtesy to say 'hey guys here's a menu order at the counter when you're ready!' staff we found were exceptionally rude. Food took too long to arrive and was average at best.

Visited with the family for a Saturday morning treat. inviting and warm welcome, the decor is fresh and stylish. It was nicely busy when we arrived but thankfully got a table straight away. We were advised of a 20min wait which was fine as we could see they were busy. Breakfast was worth the wait it was lovely, tasty and we left happily full. The staff and service couldn't be faulted and we got value for money. Already recommended to friend and looking forward to going again

I've been here a few times, mostly for coffee. The food looks nice, the environment is lovely and the staff are friendly but the service is poor - don't go if you're in a hurry. I've never had particularly speedy service here but today, after waiting 20 mins for 3 drinks and complaining I was hurriedly served juice from a carton after paying £3 for a freshly squeezed orange. After complaining again a better quality juice arrived with the server explaining, "We're not allowed to use the juicer when we're busy and even when we are it's one orange juiced and topped up with carton." Poor management! This place has the potential to be a great little café.
