Old George in Barnsley

Visiting from Norfolk headed out for brunch having searched what's nearby and decided on this due to reviews and amazing looking eggs. The eggs Benedict looked great so ordered OG Benny eggs with bacon and a pot of Yorkshire fog tea. The food was amazing but the tea was out of this world and very hot which in sub zero snowy Barnsley was very welcome. Staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. I will recommend and come back for more thank you. Dog friendly too always a bonus

This was absolutely amazing, I had a halloumi wrap, wrap great, chips great, coleslaw great. Other had bacon and chicken pancakes. Other had smashed avo, nice avocado, bread and halloumi. Also, great coffee

Visited on numerous occasions. A wide range of food and drinks available with the added bonus of food being gluten free (which is a must for me!). Food has always been delicious and always a favourite pit stop when in the centre.

If there was a "good" rating I would have used it but the options were average or very good. I had the nachos side as my main which was nice and a generous portion size. I asked for a warm almond croissant but they refused to warm it! I had lotus cup cake instead. The butter icing was very good but the cake was dry and the lotus biscuit was very stale! My husband had the brownie which was very good. The atmosphere was very nice.

Not the best experience for the price point. £12 for a breakfast but you have to order at the counter. I would expect my order to be taken at the table. Poor cramped seating at the rear. Food was fine but would expect back bacon rather than fatty streaky bacon. However well presented and fresh. Tea and coffee selection what you would expect. Busy place.

Visited on Mother’s Day and had a lovely meal with my two children. Despite of having to wait for the table, we absolutely enjoyed hospitality, kindness of staff and the food.

The Old George is the only place in Barnsley for a great Lunch. Absolutely nothing is too much trouble for the hoppy, friendly staff. The food is ALWAYS fresh and well prepared. I visit regularly with my family and we have never been dissappointed. Always a please to eat great food and enjoy the very best coffee

This place is such a gem for the town, we've been many times here for lunch, breakfast and coffee/cakes. It just never disappoints, amazing tasty well cooked and presented meals. The cakes and bakes are innovative and scrumptious. Vegetarian and vegans well catered for. The staff are so friendly and obliging, such great hospitality. Made to feel valued and welcomed. I found myself in Barnsley so checked Google to find the best breakfast in town , The old George Coffee House seemed to be popular so i gave it a try, £15.40 it cost me with a cappuccino. i didn’t look at the menu and ordered a full breakfast which they call “ The George “ . . MY VERDICT so it was a rather “posh” slightly pretentious looking breakfast, ingredients were all high end and presentation was good the beans were the thing thats stood out for me, almost a BBQ / smokey flavours, the coffee was really good also much better that the chains coffee shops….! . . Being picky it could have been much hotter, the sausage was meaty / a little dry and rather anaemic, the bacon was beyond crispy and no butter came with the warm bread that was ever so slightly toasted. . . I am sure there are better breakfast to be had in Barnsley

They changed the menu today so went in for lunch. The new menu has some great choices on but I went for three side dishes for £12. Absolutely delicious and well balanced flavours. I had kale and onion bhaji bites, falafel and loaded fries. Great portions, and freshy cooked...really good, Staff were brilliant as ever and another great meal.

Forgot to leave a tip due to our feral tired kids. Figured I’d leave a review instead :). We’ve been to the one in the town hall a few times (also good) but only recently heard about this location (when somebody in front of us was wanted pancakes, so got sent over the road!!) Brilliant welcoming space and lovely food/coffee. Even humoured our 5 year olds. Definitely the best cafe in Barnsley. Thanks guys! We’ll be back.

We were passing though Barnsley on a long journey and decided to give The George a try for some breakfast. Couldn’t recommend enough - the breakfast was amazing - best fry up we’ve ever had. Staff were also lovely and friendly. If we are passing through again we will definitely be visiting again.

Old George held a curry night last night and wanted to write a review. We were welcomed with a smile and a lovely bright display of colour. We sat down and poppadoms and pickle tray while we decided on the starter and main. I had the kale and onion bhaji and my partner has tika masala fish...just perfect and tasty. Our mains were beef Madras served with a nann and my partner had a paneer flat bread with fries. Again both mains were amazing and you could not have got better in an Indian restaurant. All in all a fantastic and enjoyable night.

We are so lucky to have such a fantastic/homely and welcoming cafe in Barnsley. Its always first class in every way. Thank you guys for a delicious breakfast.
