Old Ball in Leeds

Visted for lunch with wife and my mum. Food was great. Mum ordered another lunch to take home for later it was so nice. Service was spot on. Will return again next time we cross the country to see mum.

This is a hard place to review. The food was lovely but basic and the portions were very small. I had a mixed grill and felt very hungry after, thank goodness we ordered some extras. The staff were friendly and helpful but other pub goers were swearing their heads off, not good when you've sat down with kids for a meal. We wanted to leave as soon as we ate. When we first arrived for our booked table, there was a lot of people sat on their own in booths which didn't help a family of five who needed seating. We didn't feel like a table was reserved for us that we booked as we were told areas in the pub to look for seats, it was explained that football was on so it was busier than usual but if we couldnt find a seat to let staff know. We were eventually seated with help from other families there and the table was promptly wiped. Food came in reasonable time and whilst it did look nice, I noticed portions were very small. The Bridgewater Inn we previously ate at at Kirkstall had similar meals with generous portions and i think maybe a quid cheaper. Also, five of us were eating and three meals were brought out so two of our party were sat nibbling the extras we ordered and food from the meals that had arrived whilst waiting for their food to eventually arrive. A big no no in any eatery is bringing food out in dribs and drabs, it's either all out together or none at all, you don't have anyone waiitng for food whilst others are tucking in. Desserts took far too long to arrive for what we ordered and the fact we only ordered a couple of puddings, with the pub practically empty now the wait time was unacceptable. Bar staff were polite and courteous but you could tell they didn't take too kindly to being ordered for drinks as one pub goer said 'put a guiness in there'. No manners at all. Would we go again, definitely not, food was tasty, service was on point, but it's not a family friendly pub which in this day and age is a bit odd. Pros. Lovely food Polite staff Cons Swearing pub goers. My partner said she didn't feel comfortable going to the bar on her own. Definitely not a family pub. Odd darts placement, you had to pass the in use dart board to get to the bar or toilets. Toilets were not clean at all, we used the disabled ones. Pricey food for small portions.

A solid pub through and through with a great atmosphere all week, well priced drinks, friendly staff and really tasty food. A no brainer when in horsforth

Lovely pub! Best steak and Guinness pie I’ve had since moving from trim, Dublin. However, the face that ‘Izzy’ shared when with my Irish family made me feel a bit uncomfortable? Almost like they weren’t welcome? We paid in cash (with 10% tip) so unsure what the issue is? Would love to go back but don’t want the hassle?

The Old Ball is a good place to meet friends for a drink and play some pool! The pool tables are card operated as well and in somewhat decent condition. There is plenty of parking and the drinks are reasonably priced! The food is decent for what you expect of a pub like this with loads of seating areas and plenty of choice on the menu for everyone!

Lovely breakfast, get a lot for what you pay for! Great service from Sam and Lee! Very attentive and friendly! Would come again and recommend to a friend!

I meet a group of friends here regularly. The food is good, but not excellent. It’s quite quiet when I visit in the daytime so not much atmosphere, can’t say about nighttime. The staff are great, friendly and helpful.

Lovely warm welcome upon upon arrival, pub was clean and cosy, Breakfast was delicious, great value for money, definitely worth the visit for this alone! Will be back in soon

I pop in with like minded football parents while our kids train up the road. It's brilliant on a Friday we get a couple of madri's each at £3 a pint 👌 the other drinks are priced fairly aswell. A mixed age groups and cultures all work well in this friendly pub/ restaurant 👌

Went for a few drinks after a family meal at the Brownlee Arms, was quiet with it been a monday nite but that was fine with us.

Food is decent, service is good. Only negative is at busy times, smokers congregate at front door instead of stepping a few more metres into large beer garden so you have to enter and leave through lots of second hand smoke. Needs addressing, bar staff have clear view.

Lovely atmosphere and great service from all staff members. Shoutout to Cory for his excellent Guinness pouring skills, my Irish grandad was very impressed.

We went for food here, ordered 2 chicken stack burgers, and a mega mixed grill. We were told that there would be half an hour wait because they had to clean down the kitchen due to a customer with an allergy. This is fine, no problem. Obviously, this is an allergy, and we completely understand. No problem at all. 58 mins later, we are still waiting for our food. I went to the bar to ask how long it was going to be, thinking that maybe the order hadn't gone through. A party of around 8 people, had literally walked in 20 mins ago and were getting their food brought out to them. He said he would go check and apologised. We were offered some free drinks which we didn't take because we just wanted to leave at this point. Our chicken burgers were actually quite nice, though the fries with the burger were rock hard (as though they had been sat under a warmer for some time). Ordered Montery Jack cheese on one for £1 extra and macaroni cheese as an extra side on the other one for £2. The macaroni cheese came in the tiniest pot, all congealed, like it had been sat there all day. It could've done with a stir maybe to make it look more appetising. The mixed grill was awful. Everything burnt, except the sausage and the peas. Fries were rock hard too. Steak was asked for medium but it was like rubber and burnt. Really disappointed.

Great pub to while away a few hours in or have a meal with friends. The staff are helpful and friendly and they have pool and darts - what more does a pub need? They also show popular sports matches.

Been here twice for food. Both were busy times of the day, on a weekend. 1st time was good however we (a table for 2) were placed on a large table right in front of the TV when sports were playing. You'd have thought the staff would've reserved a more appropriate place for us to sit. 2nd time the 2 female staff lied and said that we didn't have a booking on their system and practically shrugged us off. They clearly hadn't bothered to reserve a table, and suggested we find our own seats - which was impossible. Luckily one of the male staff found us a table that was likely the one we had reserved anyway. I don't expect to be treated like royalty in a cheap pub, but at least take the time to put a sign to show a table is reserved. A shame as the food is really great and at a good price. But, it's not worth it if most of the staff are blasé about not doing things they should have done. Perhaps consider placing the male staff that helped in a more managerial position. Overall, come for food - but not during busy times of the weekend.

We loved the food, it was all cooked to perfection and nice and hot. Pizza was fab, the young lady server was very polite and helpful. Didn't realise LUFC were playing so a little noisy but overall a good experience.

The Old Ball is a great pub to visit for food and/or drinks depending on what you fancy. The meals are reasonably priced as well as the drinks. Service is good but can be a little slow if busy. Saying that the staff are always on the ball and friendly. Special mention to Millie, Sam and the team for doing an awesome job keeping us punters fed and water throughout the year. Highly recommend a visit if you're ever visiting Horsforth.

I have been going into the old ball for many years. It has always been a friendly atmosphere the food is excellent and the staff are brilliant and from what I can see very hard working. Met an old friend her from my Leeds Trinity days here last week as this is where we used to frequent while at university. The place used to have a stone pizza oven and served good quality food with a good atmosphere. Unfortunately the stone pizza oven has gone and has been replaced with generic pizzas which tasted bland and left us both feeling a bit off it. The service was also poor, the girl who served us was positively miserable and barely said two words, not the welcome we were hoping for or used to. Safe to say we won't be returning,

We didn't eat, just popped in for a drink. First of all we waited a while to be served at the bar. One of our group then spotted a small sign saying they don't serve at the side of the bar we were at. A member of staff had been in this location and just ignored us. I'm sure she could have just given us the heads up on the situation. When we were served our orders were wrong and had to be corrected. As one of our group waited to be served he was ignored and a staff member chose to serve a regular at the side of the bar I just spoke of. Then on our way out we spotted a machine where we were to put in our car registration or we would be fined for parking in there own car park. Staff were all for the regulars and we didn't get so much as a smile.

Always eat here from the main menue but now we have started having the Breakfasts. They are amazing and amazing value for money. Fantastic sausages and bacon especially. Staff are also very helpful and friendly.

Lovely pub, the old ball team welcome you in, wide range of drinks and food, what makes me return to the Old Ball is that it’s dog friendly. Lovely barmaid Laura brought dog treats and a bowl of water for my dog, which made her day.

most of the other bars in the area attract a younger, louder crowd, so thought I would give this pub a try. it has a far better atmosphere, drinks are great, and come at a great price too. the food was excellent. all this was topped of with excellent service, especially from Abbie, who always had a smile on her face.

Great setting. Fairly standard offering for a chain. Staff let it down with terrible attitude that is not befitting of customer service. Beer: the Leeds pale was soured and cloudy.

Got the Irish breakfast, it was a good feed but I feel to call in an Irish breakfast it needs white pudding or potato bread!

I find myself often returning to the awesome establishment, left my personal belongings there upon my last visit and the staff were amazing with storing it in a safe place. Thankyou to the staff! Loved the drinks and food and the amazing service, can't wait to return here.

Amazing service today at the old ball called in on my way home. Was served by a nice geordie lad and a big guy with a beard never been before but thought definitely ately the place to go in horsforth now I've moved there. Would highly recommend if want some nice grub and a gorgeous pint !
