Absolutely shocking service from the minute we arrived.. The staff were so rude and not accommodating to the simple request of extending the table with a free table nearby as we were having more guests arriving to eat. We had to go inside to order food and drinks, ask them to serve us, it took forever for the food to come when it was eventually ordered, and finally, one of our party ordered rice and chicken, and the chicken arrived at the end of all of us dining, so she had a bowl of rice for dinner.. To top it off, the rude waitress refused to take off the chicken that arrived as we were getting up to leave.. And ultimately very uninspiring food. Never again.

The portion is very small, the food is served very slowly, and it’s not delicious.

Cheryl made the experience so amazing, gave us great recommendations. Can definitely recommend the Unagi Onigiri. Had lovely noodles and beer. Great place to catch up with a friend!

Me and my family had a lovely time here at Brixton East's OKAN, the food was fresh, delicious & made with care but most memorable was the service & people inspite it being a cute small place and manned by only 3 people (1 of which is the chef constantly cooking) the staff all manage to make it feel personally inviting! Special mention in this regard goes to Emi / Cheryl our server she was so gracious and polite and had a real warmth to her character that made me and my families time so memorable! Arigato Gozaimasu! 🙇🏻‍♂️

A wonderful spot with amazing, attentive friendly service! Ume (Cheryl) was a delightful host and went to great pains to make sure we were well looked after. The food and drink was delicious and it was nice to see them all being freshly prepared. Overall I’d fully recommend for both the produce and the superb service!

The wagyu okonomiyaki is the best meal I can remember in a long time. Takuma was very helpful in going through the menu and giving his recommendations. Also much quieter than the restaurant in Brixton Village.

Went for lunch on a bank holiday weekend. The service was quite slow, but there was only one person taking orders, cooking and I assume washing dishes as well, so the place was understaffed. It took a long time for the food to arrive. I hope more people can be on staff to support the service next time. The food itself came in large portions. I ordered the beef noodle okonomiyaki. I felt the okonomiyaki had too much okonomiyaki sauce and was too salty. Not enough beef and the beef was overcooked and tough.

Absolutely perfect meal. Takuma looked after us so well, lovely guy. Not been before but will be going back very soon! All the food was great but the eel onigiri special was incredible! A must try if they have it!

It's everything a local place should be, accessible, unfussy, friendly, great service, well kept, great decor. I've come at various times, often stop on my own when I'm between things or late home or just passing and don't feel like cooking :) The food is always good, especially okonomyaki, always specials, range of sake is great. Tonight had an unfiltered sake which was delicious, service from Sakura was great, she's been here two years and according to the grapevine is something of a legend! As a great man said... I'll be back.

Plan has been one of our favourite restaurants since moving to London. The spicy udon miso is a balm for the soul and the onigiri is just a delight. Takuma and the reast of the team are lovely hosts. Try the plum wine. Oof yummy!

Authentic Japanese food, the best okonomiyaki in London!

They have a lot of special menu. Different atmosphere compared to other brunches in a very good way. Must try!!

Okan in Brixton offers a mix of good hits and "ok" dishes. The Yaji Onigiri impressed with its fantastic flavour, standing out as a real highlight. On the other hand, the Isobe Yaki could benefit from a bit more seasoning. The "Special" Okonomiyaki, while interesting, suffered from an overload of competing flavours; opting for a simpler version might be better next time. The Curry Udon was another favourite. The cocktails also added to the positive experience. Based on the variety and quality of what we've tried, we're keen to visit Okan again and explore more of their menu.

Having been to Okan in Brixton village already, this did not disappoint. Great menu with lots of veggie options. Tasty food with yummy udon noodles. Quick, friendly, service. Beers expensive but it's London. Portion sizes are not huge massive bowls, which suited me, but others might be expecting more. The music was a bit loud but that wouldn't stop me going back.

My boyfriend and I went here today really craving some authentic Japanese food. From the moment we stepped in we loved the Japanese decor, and the great service all round. The music as well took me back to my childhood. The food was delicious from start to end and it really did bring me back to my mum's cooking. Lovely non alcoholic ginger and yuzu drink. Love that you know the food is made fresh as they cook it right behind the bar! Will be back to try the matcha cheesecake!! Thanks for a lovely meal, both boyfriend and I enjoyed thoroughly✨

Dined here alone and was brought back to my trip to Osaka. Okonomiyako was delicious. The manager, Taiyka, was incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home 😊

The food is always fabulous and complimented by the awakening vibe of Brixton. The staff are great and have good advice if you're not sure what to order.

Overall pleasant experience in this local Japanese canteen style restaurant. Highlights: Beef spicy Udon Miso was truly a deligh with a tasty broth, a friendly staff, a themed quirky interior with Japanese signs all over. Lows: Giozas had burnt bits on the fried side! I had to ask the waitress for the open kitchen fan to be turned on as the smell of pan-fried food felt a bit overwhelming. The situation then unproved in minutes. Arigato!

We ordered the okra and crispy pork, the aubergine, miso soup, pork gyoza and pork okanamiyaki. Unfortunately the gyoza was solid in the middle and burnt on the outside, the aubergine was soggy and somewhat tasteless, the okra was very oily and the pork was more like donner meat that anything near crispy. The miso was delicious, and the okanamiyaki was fine, but doused in some sort of bbq sauce which wasn't that pleasant. Not the best experience, but maybe just an off day.

Bad food, freezing and poor table service. This place is not at all what it used to be. The veg gyoza was down right inedible, smelling of old oil, tasting of burnt garlic and the the inner mush indecipherable. Gross. The £11.50 fried soba noodles, was 95% noodles in a jar tasting sauce, contained about 3 bits of tofu and no other veg except a few bean sprouts. Total rip off. Bill came to nearly £50. Don’t be scammed, walk the other direction. So sad this place has gone to the dogs, used to be one of the best spots in Brixton.

excellent, (relatively) affordable food. but the hostess' service was absolutely terrible. really brought down what was a celebratory dinner. i don't believe that wait-staff have to be constantly upbeat & smiley, because it's an awful job. especially on a saturday night. but she was incredibly brusque with us. it was impossible to signal to order, and we were brought our bill without requesting it - in the middle of discussing (amongst ourselves) ordering dessert & a final drink. 0 complaints about the food, nonetheless.

Amazing little place. The okonomiyaki is amazing. Some of the tapas/starters are a challenge to eat with chopsticks! It’s worth the trip out to Brixton for authentic Japanese food.

Nothing like the Okan Ramen from before, its lost its charming interior and makeshift tokyo style, used to be an intimate setting, instead it now feels kinda commercial, along with the food and service. They also changed the original menu and the traditional Japanese Shoyu ramen was nowhere to be seen, in fact there were no ramens whatsoever, the new alternative being a miso noodle pot, which lacked the flavour and style of the discontinued ramen dishes. Just seems counterproductive to change the magic formula of this local gem when the place had been unmatched by all others. With that said, its made me appreciate my past dining experiences at Okan Ramen before the drastic change.

Fine quality Jananese Izakaya style restaurant.

Was there Friday afternoon around 1330, so it was quiet. The food was great, if you like Japanese food and want to try something different this maybe the place to go.

Almost felt like I was in an Izakya in Osaka! Great place to come if you want a meal or some bar snacks with a few drinks. Pork and noodle okonomiyaki had a great contrast of textures and flavours. Was really tempted to get a second one. Service was nice but definitely slowed down when it got busier. The waiting staff seem to share some of the cooking responsibilities, so do expect to wait a bit before trying to grab their attention. Only flaw was that the dessert cheesecakes were laughably small and pretty insignificant - skip the sweets and focus on the savoury goodness here.

Loved the okonomiyaki. This restaurant was a little cramped and was boiling during the recent heatwave, but the good food and service made up for it.

We had some great dumplings to start with, a delicious mains with a refreshing pint of draught beer, £25 a head. Very helpful friendly staff, a must if you enjoy good casual eating in a relaxed atmosphere serving great food. Thank u.

I think others reviews have been largely positive so I have no idea what was going on when I went…maybe the main chef was off duty or something. We found our meal really unpleasant, flavours were off. They said they didn’t have ramen? Despite all these reviews, and instead offered some other version of soup that was not delicious. It had cut up pieces of grey bacon in it, and the biggest thing was all 4 dishes were coated in black burned crumbs from the grill. I had to wash each gyoza off individually so my daughter could eat them.

I went there for Ramen but they do not do it anymore. So I tired the Okanomiyaki. It's pretty good, just a bit long time waiting.

Great okonomiyaki place. Staff are polite and food is delicious. Some really nice cocktails and dessert as well! A little bit cold as the air con was on but dining area is comfortable other than that.
