Friendly and relaxing atmosphere. Eclectic seating in spacious surroundings. Delicious hot coffee and food. The croque norwege packed with smoked salmon is terrific as was the side salad of lettuce, close cut cucumber, tomatoes with dressing. Portions are generous with thick toast bread/sourdough, butter and jam. Gluten free bread/ options available with SIX gf cakes. Impressive and tasty. Thankfully very close to where we stay as we tend to go there often.

I arrived at this cafe it was quiet and no table service. You have to order at the counter which I know is becoming “the standard@ but I don’t like it. Then I observed some messages… about 4/5 A4 posters! No laptops or tablets on a Saturday or Sunday and I did not find that very welcoming and did not even want to use one. It just set the tone or warm welcome and appreciation, or lack there of. The staff seems disengaged and resented being there, no positivity just doing their jobs so to speak! Anyway when I did order at the counter another notice TIPS with a pot! What for I thought, the warm welcome, the positive experience in the fact I’d had to go up to the counter to order. Not for me I’m afraid.

The worst breakfast I've ever been served. My friend and I went in this morning, both of us are pensioners, and lek me, my chum declared this was the worst breakfast he's had. Sad really, because my son and I have had lunch there a few times and liked the food. Needless to say we won't be back.

"We love to get to know you", is one aspect of the owners mission statement. And it's true as on second visit not only welcomed but asked if I wanted a really hot cappuccino again! My wife's preference also remembered so she's equally impressed. All food clearly freshly prepared, tasty and generous. Totally relaxing atmosphere amid pleasant surroundings. Very good value. We will return again obviously

We dropped in for breakfast one Sunday. The choice of foods was fairly good and we all opted for the pastries which looked amazing. They were though awful. They were dry, heavy and tasted stale. None of us enjoyed them. The coffee isn’t particularly nice either. The place seemed to need a good clean too which (because of covid) is concerning. It all felt ‘sticky’. Allows dogs though so that’s good. The decor is weird too. Won’t be back.

Evie myself and the kids visited this cafe whilst exploring the Royal Mile. Very central and a pleasant place we were promptly seated and served All the drinks were promptly served and tasted fine However our visited was slightly tarnished by a elderly Scottish diner seated on adjoining table staring at my wife and tutting loudly As mixed race couple we occasionally are subject to comments , sad but true but after four or five incidents Evie commented to the man only to receive a discursive comment Whilst the cafe was fine this incident tarnished our visit

No regresará

We decided to try this place as it looked great from outside. The man behind the counter wrote our order on a pad (incorrectly as it turned out) laboriously. The cakes on the counter looked delicious but were uncovered and I spotted numerous flies (the door was open) around them. Regardless, we picked two toasties and two drinks as well as a slice of cake to share. The toasties came before the drinks; I'd asked for no tomato or dressing on the salad and it came without the tomato but with the dressing. The toasties tasted fine but nothing special. My sister finally got her drink - the man said he had accidentally made two iced lattes for us (I had ordered an iced mocha). My sister had not ordered her drink iced but was so thirsty by this point that she drunk it to find it had no vanilla in it. She had to take it back to the counter where the man said that would cost extra; she had to point out that she had ordered it! Finally my drink came and was revolting. Iced mocha; tasted like watery powdered chocolate with a dash of very bitter coffee and had a sort of scummy froth on top. We both tried it and were unimpressed. It must have cost pennies to make and it certainly didn't cost that little! When our slice of cake finally made an appearance it was dry and crumbly. It was supposed to be raspberry and coconut; I couldn't taste the coconut.During this a party at the other side of the coffee shop had a dog which barked and sat on a seat; I wouldn't like to think that I was sitting on a seat previously occupied by someone's dog; that and the flies and the uncovered cakes concern me from a hygiene point of view.It looks lovely; someone has obviously spent time designing it and choosing the correct furnishings but I just can't see it lasting unless the quality and hygiene issues are addressed. I certainly won't be back; there are far too many good places to eat in Edinburgh to waste time and money in this one.

It's a nice wee place (my former local corner shop transformed) and my black Americano was absolutely fine, but unfortunately my other half's flat white had a distinctly sour smell and taste. Although, admittedly, an odd problem in a coffee shop, we thought it might be the milk and we asked for another. This was provided straight away without quibble using the same milk ('all we've got left') and so it was exactly the same as the first one. The barista didn't sniff the milk or the coffee so I suppose she didn't think there was a problem. The coffee wasn't drinkable so we left. Hopefully a one off?

If you want somewhere to go for a walk and a coffee that's pretty central but feels like it's not in the city, take a walk down the Union Canal and stop here. On your way back to town Odds and Ends is just off the canal and the coffee and cake is a welcome treat.Independently owned, good music, lovely coffee and some really comfortable seating .. It's a worthwhile stop that's just out of the way of the usual Bruntsfield/Tollcross rush. Given that it's quite a big space and in a slightly quieter location means it's a perfect choice for a group of friends to sit and have a chat and not be rushed out the door. Pop in and see for yourself!

This place is kitted out really nicely. Like, REALLY nicely. Really on-trend decor with shabby chic furniture and come charming features. A small but decent wee menu, great sounds and atmosphere. The only thing that let it down lightly was the coffee. While by no means horribly offensive it was just not quite perfect. My flat white was about 60-65 degrees, which for a flatty is a bit too hot. Also the coffee had that nasty burnt element to it that can come from not cleaning out the basket or not back-flushing the machine after the proir use, leaving the old, extracted coffee grounds compromising the new shot. This is why they lose a star. I think a little coffee training and perhaps a new grinder that delivers proper doses would really tip these guys into the major leagues.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

Booked in the restaurant for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We weren’t staying at the hotel but did add that we were celebrating upon booking. We arrived early expecting to have a drink at the bar but the table was ready for us. We received a complimentary glass of champagne each on arrival. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t have done more. They even sorted us out with a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion. The food was to a high standard and the portion size was perfect. Altogether a fantastic meal and exemplary service.

We approached the café at 9am with laundry and were greeted by four Scottish Terriers who were apparently running the place, until Graham arrived up the stairs to ask what the heck we wanted...and we knew immediately we were in the right place! I've read some of the reviews, and if you don't understand Graham in the first 5 seconds of him opening his mouth, you don't deserve to be there...and I am pretty sure Graham will know/sense it himself. I think he relishes poor reviews. But we felt immediately at home, and once we passed the "test", Graham was the perfect host. I had to put up with insults on my lack of fashion sense and some uncomfortable history lessons regarding the villainy of George Washington, but my wife and I would not trade our experience for anything! Graham practically did our laundry for us, made us coffee, and even gave me a lovely (empty) can of haggis. Thank you for the experience Graham! I hope you enjoy the US Dollar Bill (with Washington on it)...and I won't forget that American history is really Scottish history!
