The food is excellent and it is the only reason I go because they tend to pay too much attention to their sit down clientele. It is also supposed to be a takeaway and it is, the chairs for the restaurant are far too near the takeaway area and you cannot move. Tables and chairs in the way and no-one sat down will move out the way. It's not their fault tables are too near the takeaway area. Both myself and my friend are big guys and we were laughed at by the staff whilst we were trying to navigate our way to the takeaway area. They will drop your takeaway order and leave it to go cold whilst they concentrate on their sit down restaurant guests. Also maybe it's just me but I have never heard of a Chinese restaurant/takeaway that does not do prawn crackers, they don't do prawn crackers. If you go to an Indian restaurant/takeaway you normally expect podadoms to be on the menu and if you go to a Chinese restaurant/takeaway you expect prawn crackers???? If the food was not good we would not bother at all

Very nice restaurant with very fine cuisine, parking could be a problem but definitely worth the hassle!

The Golden Lake strives the best quality of the Chinese cuisine; most of them are stir fries of home cooking alike. One of the remarkable dishes is the braised fish filet with fried tofu, vegetable and BBQ pork to be recommended. The other is the deep fried squid pepper and salt that you will never forget. In the freezing winter that keeps yourself a warm body, the lamb stew with the bean curd sheet is ai must to try. In the most greediness to have a final bite, the fried stuffed eggplant, green pepper and bean curd is one of temptations which you will never foreget to order. Not enough to make you a full stomach, why not to have the stir friedj beef rice noodle or the stir fried rice noodles Xiamen style to wrap up The Golden Lake is running by a Hong Konger couple; a small restaurant but neat one in the Phoebe Street of Salford area. Sister Lai, the onwer, is a very people person having a strong memory of every gourmet. She can easily making call your name when you dine in. Be sure you have to ring and contact Sister Lai for any reservation on Saturday or Sunday to keep away from waiting queue.

This is an authentic HK cantonese eatery. They have been in the business many years and have now gained a following amongst the new HK expat community for their authentic dishes not normally found in takeaways. This is a home cooking style! We love coming back here, even though we had moved further away.

Been coming to this place even b4 they relocated to current location. 1st point is, this is not a hong kong style cafe. It's more a typical Chinese take away that does some hong kong style dishes and you can eat in. Don't expect the taste of HK in their drinks or food. It initially was targeting students and locals, but over the last few years its clientele has evolved to become hong kong ppl based and I have noticed their menu slowly changing to cater more towards their taste. Now we have toned down our expectations, this is infact a great place cheap, huge portions and it don't taste too bad too, if you order the right things. The typical Chinese take away food is decent standard, the eat in menu for rice/noodles are all £11 each and portions r generous. There are certainly things that maybe you should avoid like any of the szechuan style dishes and a few others I will let u find out. You may like them but it's certainly not for me. They have a specials menu which is pretty good like fresh seafood etc.

Have it for dinner a couple of days back. Foods wise was acceptable, very asian, but the waiting time was horrendous. We have to wait for an hr +, to realise that our order was forgotten. 🙁 I will say it is not a good experience.

It's a really lovely place, the food is amazing, and the service is great! We had the crispy duck, king prawn chow mein, and salt&pepper ribs. Everything was very delicious and served piping hot!

The flavors of the dishes we ordered didn't really stand out compared to other Chinese takeout or restaurant. The staffs seemed indifferent rather than rude. Two Hong Kong street signs decorated on the walls, evoking a sense of memories for the flavors of Hong Kong. However, the milk tea failed to live up to expeactations, lacking the rich and authentic taste I was hoping for. Overall, I left the feeling disappointed with this dining experience.

Well deserved 5/5! We went to Ocean Cook for the 1st time today, in the afternoon for lunch, and surely worth it!! Got to give the credits to them for bringing the brilliant flavours to us. We absolutely love the food there, and the quality surprises us. We got the hot milk tea, salt and pepper squid, stir-fried Ho fan with sliced beef, Seafood Fried Instant Noodles with XO sauce, steamed scallops with garlic and rice vermicelli, homemade Japanese Takoyaki Octopus Balls. Got recommended to try this restaurant by two colleagues, that's why I decided I have to give it a go. Ended up, it's awesome we got here for a meal, we enjoy the taste of every dish we got, and the portion is great and left with contentment and full tummies for sure.

Herman said the milk tea is rubbish.

One of my favorite restaurant in Manchester which serves authentic HK cha chang teng style dishes. Absolutely love it.

The best Chinese in the whole of Manchester, me and my mrs go to place when we’re feeling abit cheeky and want a Chinese. The lady is also so lovely and always takes care of our food to such a high standard. 10/10 highly recommend!

Delicious Cantonese foods with nice tea, dishes are big. Parking is not close but reasonable in a parking lot nearby.

Ordered from here several times now, really is a spot on Chinese take away. Very good value and also tastes great. The delivery drivers are always very pleasant and never had anything missing from orders. However it is not the most authentic Chinese you will eat.

I never dine in here, always take away but if you want Chinese foid, you need to try Ocean Cook. The staff are so nice and the fiid is just delicious, I don't eat take out from any other Chinese in Manchester or Salford

Awful food rude staff and late delivery. Food came 2.5 hours late, called twice and got told it was close when it wasn't. It arrived and the duck was nice, but the rest of the food was almost inedible. Spring rolls made me gag, chow mein was horrible and cold (only an 8min drive away so expected it to be warm). Food was tasteless and chewy. Staff were very rude when we called and asked for an update. Don't go here. I'd excuse service and delivery if the food was good but it was awful

Just had 1st take away from this place on uber eats. 100%. Delivered 30 minutes before they said and the food was fantastic. Starter was lovely and Plenty of meat and prawns in the 4 seasons dish and was perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend and i will be using this take away again. Polite and friendly driver to go with it.

Ordered my food this evening from Ocean cook and because I challenged owner last time regarding false advertising. I was actually trying to help them from a trading standards point of view. She cancelled my order and didn't call me after waiting a hour I called and she didn't want to hear me explain that if she cancelled she should of called. It's now almost 10pm and I order around 8pm. I've been a loyal customer for over 2 years when they where MR Cook paying and promoting the business. I'm sitting here so disappointed and with no apology from owners It's left me no choice but to give this negative review. Customer service is everything especially in hospitality. Sorry is just for letters and she couldn't say it instead she put the phone down on me, saying she didn't want to argue. Good food but bad customer service ☹

Been ordering regularly from this place - food is really nice. However the delivery driver is incredibly rude and it's very off putting me from ordering from there again!

It was awful. Not only did it take 2 hours to arrive, but when it did the food was terrible. The only food that was half decent was the duck and the delivery driver was rude.

Ordered through the Uber eats for the fist time and we were really disappointed. Wonton soup is nice. Spring rolls were awful, really chewy, only beans sprouts inside which is really hard to bite. Beef chowmein was disgusting, smells like the food is not fresh, the taste is also not delicious and very salty.

I live close by. I would say the food is ok. Big overpriced. Not authentic Chinese cuisine. If you need a better one, go Chinatown instead.

But my order was nearly 2 hours late and the staff on the phone kept trying to deny me a refund and asked me to keep waiting five minutes despite me waiting 35 minutes in between calls. Probably the best Chinese takeaway I've had in a loooong time. Everything was so yummy and fresh.

Came back here again last Sunday to get the weekly top up of salt and pepper chips and curry sauce. Once again, unreal. Salt and Pepper chips and curry sauce x4 this time. Fluffy potato-y goodness accompanied by liquid gold. The boys got salt and pepper chicken, egg fried rice and tofu in black bean sauce for myself. Unbelievably good, and 4 free 7up's as a gift from Mr Cook. Nice touch. Will be visiting again tonight, for the usual. Already excited for it. 5 stars as usual, hats off to you Mr Cook. Never change.

Where to start? What a place. Went here for lunch with the boys, from the moment laid eyes on the shopfront we were sold, beautiful signage. Stepped through the front door, met with a dim room. Salt & pepper chips x3 with curry sauce, cash only. Boom. You already know you’re in the money. Sat down after ordering and heard snoring, realised it was the man himself, Mr. Cook, having a nap. Respect to him. 5 minutes later we’ve got our food, incredible prices it must be said. Sat outside the shop in the lovely local scenery and devoured the chips. World class scran. Possibly life changing. The best salt & pepper chips in the world, I don’t do ifs buts or maybes, I do absolutes. World class. Overall, 5 stars out of 5, if I could give it 6 stars I would. But that would be silly because it’s out of 5. Mr. Cook’s, an unbelievable establishment.

The seafood tom yum soup is NOT tom yum at all. it was literally a cheap tomato soup with 2 prawns and a mushroom in it. Not worth 5 quid. The egg fried rice was good tho.

Mr Cook Salford does very tasty food! They are a takeaway/delivery business. Ordering through Uber Eats, my food arrived well packaged & nicely hot. The Uber Eats driver delivered my order socially distanced due to Covid-19. There was a delivery fee of just £2:00 which I think is really good! The only downside was my order took around 1.5 hours to arrive. After a few phone calls back & forth between myself & the restaurant, whatever the problem wa, it got sorted very quickly with polite & friendly customer service. There is a wide range of cuisine to choose from with reasonable prices. Definitely worth placing an order with Mr Cook Salford. Opening times are included with the photo I have uploaded.

Called to ask where food was (after 90 mins) and they hung up on me. Took almost 2 hours to get here & when it did the driver blamed us for giving the wrong postcode (we didn’t as via Uber eats). Food was mediocre. Definitely won’t order again.

Excellent food at reasonable price and good portion size, if your looking for a slice of Hong Kong and don’t want to venture into Manchester Chinatown look no further. I highly recommend the beef flank curry so tender and flavoursome, normally only found in Chinese restaurant, which I was surprised they sold. Give them a try don’t be put off by the decor The food was 10/10

Super disappointed with this. I ordered a take away and when it didn't arrive after 1 hour I rang the restaurant and the delivery driver and it was such poor service. It never arrived in the end. Not happy!

Best Chinese restaurant in Manchester

Ordered takeaway and was really impressed. Large portions, really good quality, the crispy dishes were still crispy and the flavour was great. We placed a huge order and they were still able to deliver it before the eta!

It was the best chineese food to order i ever had! We ordered between us like 5 dishes without knowing how big the portion size was (first time we ordered from them) and it was too much. But the taste, was wow! Every dish was cooked to perfection, even the salt&peper chicken was crunchy but soft on the inside! Which, beeing my fav dish, is hard to get it right, but you guys did it! And my bf agreed aswell that you are the best cookers and we will order again! Keep on the good work! PS. They gave us free ribs aswell, so thanks, we have food for the entire weekend now haha

Probably the best sweet and sour chicken in Manchester, and I've tried loads! Had some king prawns in chilli and onions and choi sum in garlic. Everything tasted great and was piping hot eating in. The only difficulty in going to this place is parking. The rear is now under surveillance, so you have to park nearby in a dodgy looking street. I would definitely go again. Whilst we dined there, they had constant orders coming in for deliveries. So if you ever order one, try be patient! 😉

I ordered the spring rolls, crackers, bbq ribs and beef chow mein with osyter sauce. Not only were they 30 mins late with my order, the food arrived cold and tasted awful. The spring rolls and bbq ribs tasted undercooked and the chow mein was just flavourless and soggy. I chucked 90% of it in the bin and just cooked my own dinner. Never ordering from here again.

Me and my friends ordered chicken fried rice, chicken chow mein and tofu with chilli and garlic sauce. When the food arrived it was barely warm and the chicken fried rice had absolutely no flavour! The texture of the chicken chow mein was horrendous and the tofu with chilli and garlic sauce was much spicier then the description had said, so much that the spice overpowered the flavour. We did eat some of the food, however, it was the worst chinese food experiences we’ve ever had!

So after reading the good reviews, I decided to try out this place. I placed a chow mein order. However, I had to choose a sauce which I did. Then I called the restaurant saying I didn't want the sauce and she said if I don't want the sauce, I'll have the soft noodles instead of the crispy. Tell me why my order turns up and its crispy noodles. With no sauce. The food is salty and cold. Never ordering again🙄🙄

Guilty Pleasure... my favourite chinese simply for their ho fun! Had their ma po and the aubergine/pork - both are delicious. Service has always been good for me too.

Doesn't look great from the outside, but this place makes dang tasty food at very reasonable prices. Can heartily recommend the scallop dishes and their udon noodles, you can't go wrong. The eat in bit only accepts cash at the moment and doesn't have an alcohol license, never ordered take away so couldn't comment, but if the foods up to the same standard you'll be laughing.

Food delivered to the wrong address!! I’ve been waiting for my order more than 1 hour and never got delivered. I called back the restaurant and the lady passed me the driver on the phone saying that he delivered the food to the right address and to a young black man lol My friend John and i we are both white, and there’s no one else in the house. Well done! I’m very impressed of your customer service and professionalism. No refund no food replaced! Shame!!

Great tasting food, friendly staff, and portions are huge! Have been a loyal customer at Mr Cook over the past 4 years and will continue to do so in the future. Most of the people order via Just Eat, but we prefer to eat in sometimes, and we love it - it's cozy, quiet, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Whoever reads these Google reviews, please don't pay attention to people who gave it 1* as I can see they only created their accounts to underrate businesses. Hence why they have just 1 contribution.

Refused to send food and Asked just eat to call to say payment hasn't been received in the past even though it's all paid online by card. Really bad service and the food is cold when it's delivered.
